- The legal case Prince Harry pursued against the Home Office made him look like a ‘spoiled child’. That’s the view of the Daily Mail’s Diary Editor Richard Eden, who says that the Duke of Sussex won’t find sympathy with the British public after he lost his bid to get the UK police to provide his security when he is here. ‘He really does just come across as a spoiled child. When he quit those royal duties with Meghan, he gave up the privileges that came with it and one of those was protection,’ he tells Palace Confidential. ‘It’s something that he should have considered long and hard before he quit royal duties, there’s no reason why very hard-pressed British taxpayers should be paying the security of this very wealthy person, who's earning money by telling stories about life with the royal family. So I don’t think there’s much public sympathy in Britain for his position at all.’

I am getting so sick & tired of the jealousy within the Royal Family. It's like a family of children, all vying for attention. Way too much drama, it's so undignified. Charles needs to be quiet and be thankful that he's lucky to even have Catherine in that family. She's truly far more dignified and likeable than any of the blood royals imo.

The King is thrilled with William and Catherine, their hard work and the positive attention they bring to the royal family. Charles is no fool. He's the King and he's 74 and is in his role. The King and Queen don't have to get over anything, this is a media construct.

I would hope so. He was very jealous of Diana rather than proud of her. I often wonder if he hadn’t been so self absorbed and been more supportive ( and less obsessed with Camilla) if things wouldn’t have turned out differently. As it is I feel badly for Catherine - who takes a lot of crap from the media - and a brother in law who she trusted. She really is a lovely representative for the monarchy. I would hope the King and Queen appreciate her.

Charles is not a narcissist that he needs all the attention. He was only angry with Diana when she tried to undermine him publicly, pulling faces behind him when he was giving a speech etc.

Harry doesn't deserve police protection provided to him by either the UK or the US. He chose to leave his role as a working royal and therefore lost his status and security provided for that role. He is merely a celebrity now (not considered a dignatary in either country) and MUST learn how to navigate his life accordingly.

On the Catherine/Disney issue. Of course it was deliberate slap at the Princess of Wales. But think of all the children named Catherine who will see this film and be hurt by the reference. It's essentially bullying from a company that used to be known for teaching children to be kind and caring.
it would be nice to see the popularity ranking of the name catherine and compare it to the original, with a note to Disney that perhaps marketing should have used some metrics to avoid alienating a much larger group of potential customers. Our family is firmly middle income; we earned degrees, support the local church, volunteer to assist unhoused folks. And we spent two weeks without electric, three without water, and a month without heat in the northeast, during these last six months. I’m all for welcoming folks without a wall - but a million dollar baby does not get a pass -when we can’t get a nurse!

If I choose to quit my job and move away I don't get to keep the company car and I certainly don't get to take it with me. We all have restraints on our lives. Harry's restraint was that by stepping down as a working royal he lost privileges, including his security detail, and he has to pay for it himself.
It was all made very plain to him and he made his choice, or rather she did!
His grandmother the late Queen explained this to him very clearly. That's why she gave him a whole year to think about it. I guess he thought she was bluffing and he could get his way in this just like he had in everything else.

I am the grandma of 11 (and counting) and I am done with Disney. I used to spend thousands on costumes, regular clothes, toys and trips to the Magic Kingdom. No more. Our family of 21 is going on a cruise next month and we purposefully did not choose Disney.

To be fair to Richard, he said that the supposed complaints came from some courtiers, not that they were felt by the Royals themselves. And he said something about it being believed by the public because of the ideas put out with Charles and Diana and then in Harry’s book. It didn’t sound like he personally believed it, although i did not read his printed article.
I don’t believe in such a thing, if it ever existed, because the King must know how much they all need the positive publicity from the Wales to help the popularity of the Monarchy- especially with so few of them being working royals now.

At the time I was definitely Team Diana. But over the years I became, initially grudgingly, but then genuinely to respect and admire Queen Camilla. She works hard and has dealt, with grace, with being painted as the most horrid woman. The truth really is that Charles and Camilla have the kind of deep love and respect for each other that we would all love to have. Diana, bless her, had many positive aspects and as a human being she also had flaws, but she’s been gone 25 years. Please let her rest in peace. Harry absolutely needs to stop dragging his mother’s memory out to prop up his wife’s failing popularity. In no way, shape or form is she Diana!!

It is the media feeding the idea of competition and jealousy between the royals. The King and Queen and the Wales's are a tight unit. Any positive response to members of the RF is great for the institution, whichever member of the RF receives it. Jealousy and competitiveness is a characteristic of the Montecito pair, not the RF.
When police are used at large concerts or soccer matches etc they are policing the public of the UK which is exactly what they are meant to do . They are not ever rented out to private rich people in a private capacity.

He doesn't just want police bodyguards, he can and does pay for his security in America. What he and her want is IPP, the security that goes with that is not that important to them, if they could have got if free they would have that's why he sued for it, but if he gets that IPP status, he gets it all wherever he goes in the world and they won't pay a penny for it WE WILL.
We need quash any private citizen having the ability to hire armed security anywhere in the United Kingdom. This is the only thing Prince Harry cannot pay for privately.
Whatever happened between Diana and Charles 40+ years ago bears no relation to the dynamics between the King and Queen and the Wales. I hope the press and disgruntled palace courtiers don't try to make the Wales spotlight stealing villains or the King & Queen envious, petty egoists. Each of them have different roles to play based on age, experience and title. Acknowledge what they do best and leave them to get on with it. The public doesn't need ginned up drama.

As a US taxpayer, I’m more concerned about the upcoming court case regarding Prince Harry’s IPP status. If he wins, both the UK and US taxpayers would then be tapped to pay for their security and that would not go over well here in the States.

However, it might have been considered worthy of note that Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh became the first royal to visit Iraq since British troops left Basra. Baghdad is still considered a dangerous place, after all.

Apparently the RED BOX OF LETTERS (documents or whatever the Papers are called) from Parliament, that need to be individually read and signed arrive in the Palace office by 5:15am, guarded and opened at 5:30am. Queen Elizabeth II used to be up and dressed ready to read the red box at 5:30am, then would eat a healthy cooked breakfast at 8/8:30am. The King has stuck to the schedule

I think the point of Princess Catherine attending was to highlight the children being invited so that they may learn about the importance of 🐝 etc. on an environmental level. I can't think of anything closer to King Charles' heart and with Princess Catherine's natural affection with all children a better person to convey his message.

I read Angela Kelly's second book, The other side of the coln, and I really enjoyed it. It is a tribute to the friendship and she did dress the Queen beautifully and I think that her Majesty appreciated the image she was able to portray in her latter years thanks to Angela and Stuart Parvin.

Diana's father was determined that one of his daughters was going to marry into the Royal family, unfortunately Diana drew the short straw so to speak. Diana was always to upstaging Prince Charles as he was then. Unfortunately that marriage should never have been, it was a fairytale to the world unfortunately not for Prince Charles as he was then and Diana.
On the contrary. Diana's father wished she married a regular chap and came to live with him. He is quoted as having said so. Diana was the one who actively gunned after Charles. She was known to have said that she wanted to be the Princess of Wales and she read too many fairytale novels. And nobody in Charles's social circle wanted to give up their privacy and independence to marry Charles and Diana was basically the only option and she seemed perfect on paper and in all the times the two met up before they got married. Charles couldn't have been happier, he thought Diana was a godsend and he didn't even bother to get to know or fall in love with her properly, he thought she was perfect and wanted to get married as quickly as possible. He was never jealous of her attention, he's not stupid but he did get angry when Diana vindictively tried to undermine him in public.
