Zach: Great job on this great looking engine! One Question: You ordered a 109 degree overlap that you reset to 105 degrees. Is there a reason why you didn't order it that way, or were you advancing it to help on top end? Just learning.....Super numbers on the dyno--more than double of the displacement. WOW!
It’s a 109 lobe separation and he installed at 105 intake lobe centerline. Lobe separation refers to the degrees between maximum lift points on the intake and exhaust ports. This is a fixed number on single cam engines and cannot change. The 105 intake centerline is angle of crankshaft rotation from TDC to the maximum intake opening point or intake lobe centerline. Also, camshaft manufacturers have transitioned to referring to the distance between lobes as a Lobe Seperation Angle or LSA and advertise overlap separately as two camshafts can have the same LSA with different lobe durations resulted in different amounts of actual valve event overlap.
Wow, what a technological gem...very cool and thanks so much for posting. Had I not went Aerospace Engineering, I would have loved to be an IC race engine builder/designer. As to the 950 HP, that is damn impressive for a 400 CI N/A endurance engine, especially with a mech fueling system. My engine of choice has a bit more HP...I believe the generally accepted LBF conversion is approximately 150,000 HP per F119-PW-100 turbo fan w/afterburner, and the F22 has two of them :) Have a nice day.

Great engine build,...with the specs ! As a 10 year old my uncle and his friend took my brother and I to a race at Midwest Speedway (Yes,...I'm OLD) lol ...when I heard a beautiful noise that rocked my heart and I said, "Uncle Don, what's that" ? !!! I was a lover in a instant ! I helped a great friend race sprint cars for years in the 360 class. I have a question. At idle, sprint cars rock & roll like rock band Van Halen, but when their just cruising on the track, they idle pretty mellow. At my friends shop we always start her up on Wednesday night after maintenance. My friend leaned out the fuel and she almost purred like a kitty cat. What's the differences ???
Gas port pistons are very hard on top rings and pistons and bores I though that was drag race stuff. When you buy an engine like this you are paying into your engine "program" it's a relationship between the owner and the builder. You are paying for more than just an engine. That being said 50k+ you only pay that upfront and after that you pay for refreshes and even if you wear one out completely. It's out of rebuilds, you have the injection, the dry sump, maybe a crankshaft if it checks out ok. Your next engine you won't need to pay that big bill again. These motors run hard for 25 laps a night. If you get a chance to watch the world of outlaws when they come through your town. Go watch them because it is worth it.
What is the differences in these 410 engines between the different makes( Ford,Chevy,or Mopar) .Are the blocks and heads different? Or Just the heads are different?
The 410 engine brands are all very different. The bore and stroke combination, and the fact that they are aluminum block and heads is really about all that is the same. That's why you see teams like Donny Schatz Racing having to do so much R&D to get the Ford program working for them.
The big block mods have a big block Chevy based engine with a CID of 500 to 540 depending on the rules you are racing. The motors in the big block mods make more power and torque but are also heavier. Also most of the mod rules require a cast iron block the 410 sprint car engine is an all aluminum engine.
What if you lowered the compression & put twin turbos on it, would it still be snappy & high revving? Just like that one is set up what would be the miles per gallon if put in a weekend warrior sleeper car.
