Thank you for this video! When cranking my camper wasn't clicking and was afraid to raise it all the way up as there seemed to be lots of tension. After watching this video I decided to continue raising it until the roof was fully up....and was able to turn the crank about 3 or 4 more times which tightened everything up. Now it clicks and locks. Thanks again!!
Excellent video. It helped me out of "no click" on raising roof on my '06 Sea Pine. I thought I broke something in the crank assembly when I accidently had the drill I use to raise the roof in reverse when trying to raise. No clicking and slow fall down after that mistake. I was getting ready to take the crank assy apart (ugh) when I found this video. I took your advice and raised it all the way up. Then I kept turning the crank and sure enough I got two or more turns and it worked fine after that. Reset! Great stuff. I subscribed.
Great video! My wife ripped the wall previously so I didn't want to over extend it, so I put a nail through the chain and held the other side with vice grips and tightened everything up. It worked perfectly except after I popped it up the inside was full of mice.

@@popupcamperpro thanks! I wasn't even expecting a solution, but that sounds perfect for us. We just bought a new trailer today and I'm for sure getting some.
My no click was caused by the back stop for the far end of the wiffle tree rod being bent away from the handle area. This allowed the whole assembly to shift away from the click pawl, and it would slip the gear away from the area that the click pawl could reach. A strategically placed washer near the large bearing in the wiffle tree assembly prevents the whole assembly from being allowed to shift forward towards the front of the trailer.
My Cheyenne model is experiencing the same thing. No clicking and no compression, currently stuck in the closed position. The 5/8" nut is rounded off, I'll have to go to your Plan B and take off the Drive Shaft.
Hi there. Thanks for the great informative videos. I have another problem now. The roof lifts...but it doesn't go down with the crank. I'm able to lower it by removing the pin and using a 5/8 socket on a ratchet. I removed the drive extension to inspect it. It's very greasy inside. Should it be? Also, it only has 2 (bent) washers. No spring or nylon spacer. Why wouldn't it have these parts inside the drive extension to begin with? It seemed to have worked all these years without them.
No sooner after leaving the comment....I did find the nylon spacer and the spring in the tube. The nylon spacer was stuck inside and had to hammer it out with the help of a flathead screwdriver. The spring is all deteriorated and fell apart into pieces!
Hello Eric! I recommend to check the threads inside the tube, and on the drive shaft. The inside parts such as the spacer and spring work as thread limiters. The drive hubs can sometimes work without them, but it can chew the threads up.
Thanks so much! Got it off with a impact driver. Do you know why my crank system when cranking down sometimes “slips” and the roof falls a couple inches? While trying to crank the roof down it goes between the crank handle having control of cranking it down and then slipping and the crank handle does nothing and the roof drops a little. If I apply pressure to the crank handle however, then the issue doesn’t happen and I have control cranking it down. Hope that makes sense.
Great video. Learning so much from all your videos as I try to learn about pop up campers. Have a question that I believe is related to this video; however, I have not found my exact symptoms mentioned anywhere. The camper is a 2006 Fleetwood Evolution that cranks up, stays in place anywhere between fully up or down and also cranks down, but there is no "clicking" while cranking. Seems to work completely fine and doesn't drop down under it's own weight but the clicking is completely absent. I have not had a chance as of yet to begin disassembly and diving deeper in. Any preliminary ideas on what the cause may be? Is it safe to use as is for the time being? Thanks so much.
Thank you for this as i just relived this problem today. Question...I've got a 2006 Fleetwood Niagara and when i try loosing the nut it just spins and doesn't want to come off...any suggestions? Thanks again.
Elizabeth Cooke that is correct. After the panel is off, remove the chain at the master link first. Then using a hammer and punch, remove the pin in the chain drive gear. This will allow the assembly to come apart.
I've watched this video a couple different times. I think my 95 Coleman is missing half this parts but still able to crank up and down. Can I still get all new parts for that year
Erin, I do not recommend at this point using a different length tube. Recent discoveries about these systems will lead me to recommend that you stick with the same length.

I have lots of tools. so any help will be great. i could get it down like everyone else has problems doing but mine is gettin it to go up.
Sounds like the drive hub may be bad. Remove it, and manually manipulate the drive shaft if you have the proper tools with you. You will likely need some people helping to lift the roof at each corner through this processes. Have some type of supports ready to brace the roof. 2X4 lumber is recommended cut to size to fit between the roof and the deck.
This is called binding. It can be caused by a few situations. A common one is debris in the whiffle tree pan cover. Try here first. If this is not it, please take a look at the lift system repair manual available on our website for more issues that cause binding, or give me a call at the shop.

If I let go of the crank handle anywhere in between gravity takes over & the roof winds back down on its own. any suggestions? I'll try the reset procedure first.
This is typically a compression issue or worn threads in the drive tube, drive shaft or both. If the problem is recent, the reset procedure typically works.

Typically one of two issues. Debris at the rear of the drawbar on the whiffle tree, or the drive hub extension tube is not disengaging completely and compression is still on the crank.
