First, your hair looks great! Good job! Second, your reasoning is exactly why I too…cut my own hair. I cannot be bothered with the phone calls and getting dressed and showing up somewhere at a certain time and blah blah. Also, did you you that you have to sit in the chair and TALK to the hair dresser while they cut too much of your hair and then style it in a way that you have to drive straight home before anyone can see you looking like that and re-wash it and style it the way you like it? Too much work and money and I’d rather be playing with a sewing machine. I know there are fabulous hair dressers out there but I can’t seem to find one. It would be perfect if they would come to my house, I would pay for that! Looking forward to your next video, they always are relatable and make me laugh. Thanks! -Jen
OMG! Jen! Yes! I had to do the "walk of shame" from the hairdressers three times in my life. And I only cut my hair every two years 😂😂Your comment couldn't be more relatable! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
As a hairstylist of more than 40 yrs. I'm absolutely fascinated. I have never seen a device like this & I'm truly curious as to whether or not it really works. I think it really helps to be as beautiful as you are. You're one of those rare people that can basically get away with any hairstyle.....or even bald. Fortunately, your hair came out gorgeous! Love your channel 💖💖💖
Awwww!🙈 Thank you so much for the nicest comment ever! ❤️❤️❤️ I have a super flat head at the back, so going bald would be a pain. on many levels 🙈 my head has one of those shapes that make you wonder if I was made to sleep on a brick as a baby😂😭

Oh too funny. I should warn you that her process that I followed was one of her older videos, not the one where she shaved her head. Please don't ever shave your head.
OK, so I’m not the only one who brings in vintage photos and says, “This please!” They never quite get it right. *sigh* Also, I totally hid the hairbrush from my mother. I used to throw an absolute fit every time she tried to comb out my snarls so at age five she handed the task over to me and for the most part it’s been fine other than my middle school years where new kids on the block and the late 80’s collided in a half up-half down, side ponytail mall bang monstrosity on my head. There was actually a year in which no one, not even my mother, saw my school pictures. I just picked them up at school and hid them away.
Darling! You are gorgeous! I've been cutting my own hair for a decade, primarily because I am only willing to pay for a truly great hairdresser, and they're not so easy to find. My technique begins with regular home treatments. I regrew my thinning hairline using rosemary essential oil; incredible results! In scientific studies it's been shown to be as effective as minoxidil. Also, once a week I do a raw egg 'shampoo' OR a castor oil scalp massage before washing my hair. I also treat my ends every day (whilst brushing my teeth) with the Elvive hair oil in a golden glass bottle or any other good hair oil. This step is crucial! My hair is long and I have not trimmed it in six months. Split ends are created through the rough brushing in my experience, so I use a wide toothed afro comb. If I do need a trim I use straight edged embroidery scissors and I trim only the worst bits in 2cm sections over the course of a week, just before the full Moon. 😅 Love you darling! Your stepson is a sweetie!
I love your comment!😀❤️ Thank you so much for sharing your experiences! I saw so much hype on the nets about rosemary oil but I never actually talked to someone who found real results with it. I am TAKING NOTES! 🤓 Thank you so much for your kind comment😊❤️❤️❤️❤️

If you have wavy or curly hair, definitely cut it dry! I have done so many hair experiments on my long hair before cutting it short and then again with short hair. It works so much better that way. You did great layers on your hair. The face framing is a modern thing, but better than bangs in my opinion. If you want more tutorials on hair cutting, I recommend Brad Mondo. I almost cut my own hair 2 weeks ago, but I have short hair and i sensed it would be... not good. It took me 4 days to get my life together to call the (local) hairdresser - who I dread seeing because she always comments on my one grey strand of hair like I'm turning into a hag - and when I called they kept offering me time on like tuesday at 11. (nope nope nope) .... Eventually i gave up and made an appointment at a $$$ hairdresser in Leipzig where I can book online. I'm really glad this worked for you, when I saw the title, I was legit nervous the reason you uploaded on Tuesday was panic and stress and not wanting to show your hair. 🤣
@@AnniCarlsson right??? And like. Every time? The only reason I kept seeing her was 1) they were around the corner from my old apartment so those weird tuesday morning appointments were never an issue (but we moved a few miles out of town) and 2) both cut and color were *very* cost effective, and even if the color wasn't exactly what I wanted It was close enough and there is a language barrier so I just went with it.

Turned out nice! I’ve been cutting my own hair for years lol I just don’t care if it’s perfect, it’ll grow back, and I have wavy hair so it disguises little imperfections fine.
A problem with the "bubble leveler" in the clip would be that you need to be standing and have your head perfectly straight, compared to the ground, for the level to accurately say what "level" is. If you are standing (or leaning over) even slightly to one side, standing on uneven flooring, or have your head even slightly tilted, then what registers as level in with the bubble will be at a tilt compared to your own body. Sorry if that isn't very clear. But, basically, you might have been right when you were saying it wasn't straight. Also, I have never used one of those clips before, so it might not be an option, but if you flip it upside down (so the outside of the curve is facing towards the ground), it would be easier to run the scissors along the edge of it. It's hard to get scissors cleanly cutting while next to something on the inside of a curve. If you need the curve facing up, then I would pull it down even more and run the scissors on the top of it. I've been cutting my own hair for 15+ years now, after multiple times when they cut WAY too much off. Mine is long enough that I brush it all back, throw a hair tie on it at the nape of my neck, and slowly push it down my hair (tightening it as needed, and switching to reaching behind my back and pulling it down at a certain spot) until it's near the ends of my hair. Then I grab the whole thing and bring it over my shoulder, without pulling it out of place, and cut from there. If your hair is long enough to bring all to one side, you might try that method next time it needs trimming. I've just found your channel BTW, and I'm binge watching. You seem like a lovely person, and I very much enjoy your style, your creations, and your videos.
Well done you. Looks fab. You'll almost never see the inside of a salon again. Liberation... I have naturally curly hair (tighter more irregular curl than yours) so I know the grief of trying to deal with hairdressers... I've been cutting my husbands hair for the past 15 years or so. Used to cut my own but I've had my hair in locks for the past 9 years - although I'm going to be cutting them off soon so I'll have to get back into the clipper routine. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
The transition from locks to something new must be exciting! 😀 I hope you'll like it! Also, you're husband is super lucky!! Thank you so much for your comment, Cathy!😊❤️❤️❤️❤️
Amusingly it's fairly easy to see in the video that the level was stuck onto the hair clip crooked, so you probably would have done better to ignore it and just trust your instinct on what's level and straight. But the good news is that it doesn't really matter, a curled style is incredibly forgiving to uneven trimming. In fact, you usually want some controlled unevenness, which is often accomplished by using thinning shears, or a technique where you grab a lock of hair and make steep diagonal cuts so that all of the hair comes out slightly different lengths and you don't get an abrupt end that makes it look like your mother trimmed your hair with a soup bowl.
I have never seen the big curve clip before, I cut mine by hanging it upside down and gathering it in a bunch at the bottom and sawing it off, it’s curly so it doesn’t show how much of a hack job it is - yours is gorgeous xx
I have cut and colored my own hair since shortly after the pandemic. I got tired of paying almost $200 just to get highlights as well as spending nearly five hours in the salon to get it done since my hair is fairly thick. Now I spend less than $15 and actually like the results even more. In fact, my boss thought my red color was actually my natural color. I consider that a huge win. Also, I think that wavy/curly hair is definitely more forgiving if you don't cut your hair perfectly straight. I also point cut the bottom edge a bit, which also helps blend the hair. And I have NO hair talent, so if I can do it, ANYONE can. 😂
You did a great job with the cut and really it's not worth spending money at the hairdresser's only for a trim. If it's an elaborate haircut then yes, you need a professional, but for what you needed you managed it perfectly on your own! And the curls look lovely too! 😍😍
Hello Arietta! 😀❤️❤️ You're so right! If I ever plan a major change, I will definitely go to a professional. Thank you so much for your comment!😊❤️❤️❤️❤️
I will say the shape looks really good! The clumping problem might actually come from not brushing your hair out enough. It takes me a lot of time to brush through and get the vintage consistent bumps and waves. I also find that following the brush with my hand helps smooth everything together without doing a ton of brushing. Your pin curls look amazing though!
Thank you so much for your comment! ❤️ May I ask what kind of brush do you use? 😀I have 3 different ones. Some do nothing at all to the hair and one completely destroys the curls!
@@Marlenasewing I have a wet brush! I started remembering a whole bunch of other tips so take what you like and leave what you don't 😅 I do a hybrid wet/setting spray set where I dry my hair mostly, put some setting spray on it, roll it up and then leave it for a full 24hr day under a hair wrap to dry and set which is excessive. Another tip for the brush out to get the curls to work together is to brush the ends around your finger (I saw it in one of Rachel maksy's hair videos) and I found it helped with my hair texture. Everybody's hair is different though, so I think the more you do it the more you'll find things that work for you and get your hair to behave how you like it!
😍Your hair is so beautiful and what ever that clip did, it did so well for you. Good job. So nice to seek at your boys👦🧒. Great English 👍🥀too. At my age, I have half the hair I had. And much less in other places.😅🤣 I still have photos of me with a ton of hair. Never as pretty as yours. I should have tried red hair.
🐶 sweet lady, I try to comment on every video because I know it really helps. But honestly I don't have much to say today. I'm in a weird spot and I'm very uncomfortable and unsure but I was very happy to see you posted when I got off work this morning and watching you fuss with your hair the same way I have so many times before definitely brought a little brightness to my morning (although it's kind of my night because I work the graveyard shift lol). Also, this is now 2 videos that you've made that aren't capsule wardrobe and you specifically asked us to keep you on task. SO WORK ON THAT TOO!
I am so sad to hear that you are uncomfortable and unsure. 🥺 I know we are just two strangers on the internet (sorry for sounding like a creep), but I hope you're alright. I work night shifts sometimes (from 22 to 8) and I am ALWAYS depressed the day after. It's like the night shift takes away a whole next day from me too. I hope that it's nothing worse than that happening 🥺❤️❤️❤️I hope you will feel better soon❤️ I am going fabric shopping tomorrow and buying fabric for a reversible skirt! 😀 so I promise to be back to a capsule wardrobe soon! Thank you so much for your comment! I always look forward to a comment from you😊❤️❤️❤️
@Marlenasewing I work nights exclusively and honestly I love it, just felt real "off" that day. You should consider showing us a couple shots of your fabric stash sometime! I'm sure you have a lot of luxurious fabric for all those dramatic dresses you like to make! And no worries, if you're a creep, I'm a creep. Very glam. ❤ I’m cheap. I go to a barber twice a year for shearing and get a buzz cut. I could do it myself with clippers but I’m too lazy to clean up after myself.
Your hair came out beautifully! Awesome work! I'm not all that good at coming up with social media names either, haha! Maybe something like Marlena Sews?
You look absolutely gorgeous, totally worth the risk and the little dying at the end ☺. I don't trust hairdressers, so, I've been cutting my hair for a long time now, and sometimes I mess up, but, is my mess 😎 and didn't pay anybody to make it 🤣 Can't wait to watch next weeks video, for a moment I thought you were going to make a noir film with Pinky as a co-star 🤭.
"is my mess 😎 and didn't pay anybody to make it" my thoughts exactly!!! 😂 it's so funny, I just had an idea to make a tiny movie with Pinky. I guess it was you who sent me the idea! 😀Thank you so much!❤️❤️❤️
I cut my own hair... its a bit trickier because it stick strait... I get my guy to trim the bottom layer if it's off... I do ok... your hair is beautiful n it has lovey layers... I will be looking for 1 of those clips to give this a try... thank you for sharing !!!
I do go to a hairdresser, but she is my mums best friend and I know her well, so I trust her with my hair. I would NEVER go to a hairdresser I've never been to before, who knows what you're going to end up with!
so true! Trusting a new hairdresser is extremely hard for me too! you're so lucky you have someone trustworthy! 😊 thank you so much for watching btw❤️😊
Heeeeeeey! That was my experience for many years at the salon growing up. I asked for a trim, NOT a cut! LOL I do my own hair care, but have one or two trusted people I can call on for specific things, but it's rare. Also...Ellen. 🤣🤣🤣 I had to go back, like, I know that I didn't just see that! LOL Awwwww, hello to the bonus son! Too sweet! Your hair came out beautifully well, freeennn! You did a good job! 🥰

Ohmai. You've inspired me to try this. I am the worst at keeping up on hair appointments...once a year. And, if i screw it up, french braids until it grows out😅😅
Cutting my own hair is always a disaster for me. When I had long hair my hair dresser friend would come over and do a dusting, which is just above the split ends. Last year my hair went down to my butt and I cut it off into a bob. Thinking next month I will get it cut into a very short bob. My hair is fried from dying and I can't fix the damage.
OMGGG! You had hair down to your butt!!!!😀😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩 Thant must have been beautiful! I relate to the damage part. If I were honest with myself, I would have cut my hair even shorter. I'm just not quite ready for that 😅 Short bobs can be so chic, though! I hope you'll enjoy it😍Thank you so much for your comment! ❤️❤️❤️
@@Marlenasewing when I was stuck in the hospital 15 months ago, my hair wasn't manageable and so tangled. It took almost two hours for the ICU nurse and the doctor who did my surgery detangling my hair and combing it out. It was seriously damaged and I was in denial. I will let my hair grow out when all the damage is gone. My hair grows 2.5 to 3.5 cm a month, so it won't take long. It will be kinda fun to do a retro 20s for a bit.

when I had short bangs i cut that myself for most times the last 20 years and gre it out 2 years ago. cut the other stuff myself to becouse just trim it. when it´s long even if straigther then a ruler it also never is hanging straigth down it get stuck on cloths and shoulders and stuff so not really shows if not perfect even and most times not really come home with even hair from hair dressers either.and bangs most sucks on. becouse they refuse to accept it can´t go shorter due to swirls.and people ask who do my hair so can´t be to bad.

Your hair looks great. Good job on cutting it.
Thank you so much! ❤️🙈
I have never seen the big curve clip before, I cut mine by hanging it upside down and gathering it in a bunch at the bottom and sawing it off, it’s curly so it doesn’t show how much of a hack job it is - yours is gorgeous xx
I think the clip is called Creaclip 😀 we're so lucky to have curls! 😅Thank you so much for your comment!😊❤️
Your hair came out beautiful! I can’t imagine it could look any better if you had paid the hairdresser 😍
omg. I feel you! I'm proud like a kid whenever someone compliments my hair color! 🙈😂 thank you so much for your comment 😊❤️❤️❤️
Super
dziekuje ❤️❤️❤️❤️
You did a great job with the cut and really it's not worth spending money at the hairdresser's only for a trim. If it's an elaborate haircut then yes, you need a professional, but for what you needed you managed it perfectly on your own! And the curls look lovely too! 😍😍
Hello Arietta! 😀❤️❤️ You're so right! If I ever plan a major change, I will definitely go to a professional.
Thank you so much for your comment!😊❤️❤️❤️❤️
Your hair has barley ome to terms with the trauma of your creative curling method and now this too. I admire your courage.
As they say... there is a thin line between bravery and stupidity. I walk that line too often in my videos🙈☠️
@@emmadroste8493 thank you so much! ❤❤❤❤❤❤I will keep going and trying!
I hope that it's nothing worse than that happening 🥺❤️❤️❤️I hope you will feel better soon❤️
I am going fabric shopping tomorrow and buying fabric for a reversible skirt!
Such is the nature of parasocial relationships on social media 😂
Very glam. ❤
I’m cheap. I go to a barber twice a year for shearing and get a buzz cut. I could do it myself with clippers but I’m too lazy to clean up after myself.
haha! such an honest statement! thank you so much for watching, Richard😊❤️❤️❤️
Your hair came out beautifully! Awesome work! I'm not all that good at coming up with social media names either, haha! Maybe something like Marlena Sews?
You look absolutely gorgeous, totally worth the risk and the little dying at the end ☺.
I don't trust hairdressers, so, I've been cutting my hair for a long time now, and sometimes I mess up, but, is my mess 😎 and didn't pay anybody to make it 🤣
Can't wait to watch next weeks video, for a moment I thought you were going to make a noir film with Pinky as a co-star 🤭.
Thank you so much for your comment!😊❤️ I think they are called Creaclips and the pack came with both of them😊
I think you did a great job! And one of the upsides to curly hair is it's so much harder to tell if it's a little uneven. 😅
haha! So true!😂 thank you so much for watching! ❤️
Your hair turned out lovely ❤🐶
Aww! Thank you so much 😀 and thank you for watching till the end! ❤️
@@Marlenasewing I just had to watch the reveal after your hard work :)
I cut mine a couple of weeks ago. It's ok.
Haha, "it's ok" is such a loaded statement. But still better than "really bad"😂❤️
HElllOOO! 🤩❤️❤️❤️ So nice to see a comment from you! As always, my freenn😊❤️❤️ hahahah "I asked for a trim, NOT a cut!" should be on T Shirts or something! 😂😂😂 Thank you so much for your comment😊❤️❤️
@@Marlenasewing It should be on a shirt! Time for merch! LOL More hugs and smooches!
I started cutting my own hair during covid and have just kept it up. My challenge is if i want to do a true vintage, i would want the horseshoe cut.
I hope we will both manage it someday!😃❤️❤️❤️
🐶
Thank you so much for watching the whole video!🙏😊❤️❤️❤️
I'm the same way about calling people! 😂
Ohmai. You've inspired me to try this. I am the worst at keeping up on hair appointments...once a year. And, if i screw it up, french braids until it grows out😅😅
I'll keep fingers crossed for you! 😄❤️
Next time you could try using a razor instead of sisers. I can imagine it would run smoothly along the plastic 😊
uuu! That's an interesting idea! You mean a razor like a changeable razor for shaving sticks?
It will be kinda fun to do a retro 20s for a bit.
oh my goodness💔I can feel the pain in that hospital story. But you're so lucky your hair grows so fast! Mine doesn't do more than 10mm per month 😭 retro 20s raven hair will be fabulous! ❤️
I cut my own hair during Covid, and it was okay.
when I had short bangs i cut that myself for most times the last 20 years and gre it out 2 years ago. cut the other stuff myself to becouse just trim it. when it´s long even if straigther then a ruler it also never is hanging straigth down it get stuck on cloths and shoulders and stuff so not really shows if not perfect even and most times not really come home with even hair from hair dressers either.and bangs most sucks on. becouse they refuse to accept it can´t go shorter due to swirls.and people ask who do my hair so can´t be to bad.
Nice! If people ask you who do your hair then you are definitely doing a great job!! ❤️❤️ Thank you so much for your comment!😊❤️
@@Marlenasewing apperently my greys also amazing becouse so many ask who those as well. 🤣 But do miss my red colored hair I used to have. but with much grey so hard to keep up and get to stay
I have been cutting my own hair for over 40 years. When its long, its hard to see any imperfections in your hair cut.
I might be at the beginning of my 40 year journey with cutting hair! 😀thank you for your comment!❤️
The way I just chopped mine with regular scissors lol
If it works.. Well, it works. 😂❤️
@Marlenasewing true lol you look really good though!
Girl you're so beautiful you can even chop like 666 centimetres but nothing changes
Awwww🙈🙈🙈🙈please don't be so nice, I can feel my ego bursting through my skin 😂😂❤️❤️
Didn’t you have that clip turned the wrong way? I think it was upside down. It came out great though ❤️👍
I thought so too when watching the tutorial.. but since mi whole head of hair was upside-down, it worked. 😅
@@MarlenasewingI don't think the bubble leveler was on the clip straight.
I hope so, or else something is seriously wrong with my eyes 😂😂 I guess I will have to buy a proper level to check the level on this level🙈
@@Marlenasewing it’s not about the level. It’s about creating a U-shape or a 🧲
