  • Adventurers League Super Healer 5e D&D Character Builds
    Nerdarchy got a request to put together a super healer character build for 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons. We decided to make it for our Adventurers League legal character build series. Which means Players Handbook plus one. For our plus one we decided to use Xanathar's Guide to Everything. It's hard to not use that D&D book when you are building a spell caster.

    I made a Lore Bard healer with the healer feat, and told the PCs to each buy a healing kit and place them on the same place each, to help keep track of when I can heal somebody, and to keep from having to carry a ton of healer's kits! Only one player balked, until I stopped healing them, then they grudgingly went ahead and complied. "Help me, to help you" was my mantra.

    Magic initiate (wizard) take two cantrips, doesn't matter but what your looking for is find familiar. With that you can cast touch spells through it, such as cure wounds, spare the dying, and heal. It would let you spread the healing in a wider area without having to use sorcery points.

    MY Ultimate Healer:
    Her name is Ellie. She's a princess. She's a protector Aasimar.
    She's a life cleric at first level, And then she's 19 levels of divine soul sorcerer. I maxed out charisma, I went with wisdom as my second highest, and constitution as my third. I got the tough feat, resilient constitution war caster, and buffed my con and wisdom and charisma as much as possible. She has mythril plate armor and a shield, and her staff. She uses the life cleric ability + beacon of hope + empowered healing to do just about all the healing ever needed. She's also *incredibly chonky* so she can tank as well, avoiding damage to the rest of the group. She can also hold her own with empowered spell, a guiding bolt, and a 20 charisma.

    I've found that my Celestial Pact Tiefling Warlock has been an absurdly powerful healer. He's pact of the chain, so he has an imp who can fly around INVISIBLY and deliver Cure Wounds anywhere on the battlefield and the Gift of the Ever Living Ones invocation ensures that he will always stay up.
    Additionally, the Healing Light that Celestial pacts get is comparable to the druid alternative; being 1+ your Warlock level d6 worth of healing from which you can spend a maximum equal to your Charisma modifier. Plus, in later levels, he won't even need to pick up inspiring leader since Celestial pact Warlock dole out temp hp after any rest the party takes.

    • @nithia
      @nithia 5 лет назад +1

      My current healer is this but multi classed with Circle of Dreams Druid so i get the d6s of healing every level and access to the full list of druid spells up to the level of spells i can use as a druid. We only just started and are level 2, so I am not far enough to get any of the good class features yet but I am looking at a progression of either Druid/Warlock 4/16 (to bump wild shape and not lose the ASI) , 10/10 (to get 5th level spells and 3rd feature for both classes), or 8/12 (for the CR1 WS bump and the ASI). I don't know what level we will make it to though. So for now it is going to be 2/4.

      I've always prefered Pact of the Tome, due to the lack of spell slots, where warlocks really shine is their unlimited use of magic, either through their cantrips or through their use of invocations. Pact of the Tome allows you to choose any three cantrips of your choice, from any class' spell list you like. I choose Spare the Dying, because healer, as well as Shillelagh which you can stack with Hex, and Guidance. Paired with the cantrip Tieflings get from their bloodline, and the two you get from being a Celestial warlock, your rocking 8 cantrips by level 3, picking up another at level four, or more if you use your invocations from level two to pick up extra cantrips.
      The Book of Ancient Secrets Invocation is gonna give you access to two 1 level rituals of your choice, including Find Familiar, but it also allows you to learn any ritual spell you can find. Aspect of the Moon also really helps, especially if you end up taking the Alert feat. Pact of the Tome just brings so much to the table compared to the other pacts. Warlocks don't have a whole lot of access to higher level spells, so it's really important to make the most of their at will magic. Shillelagh and Hex will allow you to keep up in cqc, and of course we all know about eldritch blast, versatility is the warlock's bread and butter, and having a huge list of cantrips is always a good thing.

      I have a dreams druid and a divine sould sorcerer. I gotta say I really so far prefer the idea of secondary healers over full on super-healers. I like mixing the primary strengths of the base class with the ability to dole out healing where it's needed, rather than going around trying to keep everyone at full HP at all times or whatever full healers are supposed to do. And the sorc gets some neat interactions with their meta magic, like twinned or distant healing spells and they combine this with the base strengths of the sorcerer alongside the full cleric spell list and having cure wounds (if you're affiliated with good) without using a known spell. Plus, though I haven't gotten there yet but with empowered healing you can also situationally supplement your full healers and maximise their healing potential.

    Playing an arcana cleric in Mad Mage, I took the healer feat and am carrying like... 5 or 6 healer kits at all times. I'm consistently healing 50 hp every short rest with the feat, saving healing spells by popping people up with healer kit stabilizes for 1 instead of healing words, etc. etc. Its been pretty satisfying and lets me use a lot of non-healing spells.

  • @eliparker4114

    I think the most potent healer is Druid 3, Life Cleric 17. I’m taking Druid for access to good berry and to healing spirit. Healing spirit cast with a ninth level spell slot does 59 healing with this build. But that’s 59 healing per round to any creature that moves through its space, for up to ten rounds. Up to 590 HP per creature is healed with this spell. But there’s no hard limit to how many people can be healed, especially out of combat. Then good berry becomes 4 HP per berry with a first level slot very early on, as per a sage advice. And what’s more is your berries heal you when others it them. It’s OP as heck.

      Or you could go Life Cleric 1 / Lore Bard 19

      Plus you get Song of Rest and because you are Charisma based the Inspiring Leader feat is even better.

    • @joemama114
      @joemama114 5 лет назад +1

      So as much as that's amazing and stuff but if you were going to do that why not just cast Mass Heal? It's better because you can't lose concentration on it. I mean it's a level 9 slot!
      It's not like you're really going to need thousands and thousands of healing points. A very lucky Barbarian with +7 Con and MAX hp still only has 380 hp total.
      I'd personally only cast Healing Spirit at level 7 max. 45 healing per turn to a creature is enough. Got to save at least some higher magic for when shit goes bad and someone dies.
      Also look at what you lose. Level 20, your God can just do stuff for you because of all your hard work. XD
      I heard a funny story of a guy my friend knew. He prayed to his God just after the Barbarian was disintegrated in a big fight.
      GM let him cast as an Action, True Resurrection and remade the Barb at full hp who grabbed a weapon off the ground and went right back to fighting, it cost the cleric big time tho.
      4 Exhaustion levels, also 10d10 radiant damage as being a direct conduit for his God was painful, and the spell alone cost 25,000 gold. Still anything for a win right?

    • @leonardorossi998

      @@joemama114 I would have asked my God power to just beat the shit out of the big bad guy. Maybe merge with the barbarian for a while for added flavor and keeping the other player invested.
      I don't know, having the usually meek priest turn into a screaming juggernaut sounds pretty fun to me :P
      Also because maybe it's just me, but high level Cleric spells feel kind of meh to me. They are still powerful mind you, but they are just not flavourful, so we need to get our high level flavour whenever we can find it :P
      Take Great Heal and Meteor Swarm for example: for a group of 5 people, Great Heal will heal exactly as much damage as Swarm will do on average, without counting stuff like Evasion or resistance that might greatly reduce damage. So in general you might say Great Heal > Meteor Swarm.
      But still, from a narrative point of view the latter looks better than the former. Also because Great Heal is probably the strongest spell any cleric will ever cast in combat, no matter their dominion. You are a Storm Cleric that rules over lightning? An indestructible Forge cleric in perfect attunement with a world of machines or capable of creating divine artifacts? An unpinnable Trickery Cleric? Doesn't matter: in the final fight, you will cast Mass Heal like you were another Life Cleric :P

    • @RavarSeer
      @RavarSeer 5 лет назад +1

      I've done the math. Compairing all the available healing from all classes that uses it with the basic rules of 2 short rest and 1 long rest in a day and 3 druid of the shepherd with unicorn totem/ 17 life cleric using all spell slots for the healing spirit beats everything by a significant margin. I assumed the rolls for non-life clerics to be half+1. I also assumed the party was 6 people. Your calculations may very based on your parameters.

  • @nithia
    @nithia 5 лет назад +2

    Tiefling (for the CHA boost) Circle of Dreams Druid / Celestial Patron Warlock Pact of Tome with Book of Ancient Secrets for ritual spells. Use all of you spell slots for healing and use rituals and invocations for everything else. Fire eldritch blasts between heals. You get a +1d6 healing charge at every level for both classes. Really good healer at low levels but does fall off depending on which class you lean more into.
    I am doing this with a Wood Elf in my current game but we are still level 2 so I am currently pure druid. I am doing it more for the RP of the character being an abandoned wood elf that was raised by wolves and has the Fey of the Summer and Winter Court fighting over her and now she is a witch of the woods healing ritual caster. We re-skinned Celestial so that it is still a Fey patron but mechanically the Celestial because I am the groups healer. So far after session one I kept everyone up and still killed about a third of the monsters. I plan on leaning more into Warlock unless the party really just needs the better healing than I will lean more on druid.
    We have a Paladin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Barbarian, Rogue, and my Druid/Warlock so if by chance she dies or gets NPCed some how I likely will make a An Aasimar Cleric or Divine Soul Sorcerer. I don't know what level we will be getting to as it is a sandbox home brew game so I know this is a dangerous class progression as the healer but this way I at least get some spell slots back each short rest rather than just long rests and I can take some of the arcane spells that may prevent damage to make up for lower healing spells at higher levels. Besides I wanted to play a warlock from the start but no one else was going to be the healer so I made due.

    Just submitted my character concept to my DM. I wanted warlock originally for CC and Disguise self. And the DM suggested I go changeling, which allows me to build what I wanted and add some cool healing to it. We also get to start with a feat.
    Lvl 1 Twilight Cleric w/healer feat
    Lvl 5 Celestial Warlock, playing as I normally would be getting the healing ability and Rez.
    Then I’ll bump up to 5 or 6 Twilight Cleric
    Rest into warlock
    Gives me the warlock play style I wanted with CC, sneaky sprite, disguise capabilities, and eldritch blast bot when things are good.
    When things are bad, I have the cleric armor, spells lots for lots of healing or cc, + bonus action heals.
    It might not be the best in the game, but my little warlock idea transformed into a utility God quickly! I can’t wait to play her!!

    I really like the Grave Domain Cleric, at level 1 you can deal a max power healing word as an Action and a spare the dying as a bonus action to dying players at 30 feet away. By level 6 you can turn crits into just normal hits and give the bad guys vulnerability to the next attack. Pretty huge, if wanting to multiclass the Glamor Bard can hand out temp hp like candy and at the same time allows players to get to a safe place for the cost of an inspiration die and Bonus action.

    "Herbalism kit wasn't an option" -- first option in the list of guilds is Alchemists and *Apothecaries*. Literally the definition of apothecary.
    Nice versatile build, all things said. Other possibilities for healing classes to mess with are of course lore bard, celestial warlock, and paladin of redemption. Celestial Warlock's version of Inspiring Leader is not as impressive as the feat, but doesn't require ten minutes of effort, and your pool of celestial healing is even bigger than the druid's, still with a 60ft range. Still, I think you guys touched on most of the best class features.

    in a level 20 game I was in I rolled up with a Mark of hospitality halfling with the Gruul Anarch background. (already ebberon and ravnica, but DM didn't care) as a Life Cleric 1 Wizard 19.
    The specific gimmick was using goodberry as your spell mastery, then conjure animals (from Gruul Anarch) to force-feed them to allies. Since you can create berries long in advance, your concentration can be maintained to distribute hitpoints over a long range via owls (giant or otherwise). Meanwhile you are free to use your actions during combat to fight.
    with berries at will there should be no shortage of berries going into a fight. Cast conjure animals at 3rd level and you are looking at 32 hitpoints distributed every turn at no action to you or any other PC.
    5th level conjure animals is 16 berries per round, 64 HP.
    7th level conjure animals gets you 24 berries per round, 96 HP every round.

    My healing character I've got going on if I can ever find the time to play is level 1 level cleric 1 monk and one fighter. That way with his ac its high due to being naturally dexy and wise so his faith is protecting him. Then stag one more fighter level for action surge for more heals or punches. 2 or 3 more monk levels. For added rp flavor and styles of play in was thinking of the open hand to aid in controlling the placement of enemies at times. And then the rest cleric. Mixing the three how ever. You need it to help keep people alive and show a faithful warrior of the light isn't always decked in head to toe fullplate. A humble servant is all we need.

    Pact of the chain celestial warlock is the best healer. Healing pet with a healing caster = OP and it has support options. With the human base from the build used here it is a healer without magic with the healer and medicine. A short dip into cleric or bard makes it insane at healing & support. Pet can assist your front line or backline fighters by giving them advantage on rolls.

      @jabdazombie yup you can blast away with it. I usually go with the push & pull mechanic added to my eldritch blast because you can push or pull up to 4 targets. Handy for controlling the battlefield. Push or pull enemies toward the tank or rounding them up for a AoE attack. Also situationally you can push or pull targets out of high spots or off ledges, pirates in crows nests or snipers out out of a vantage point or just snatching someone off a balcony or out of a second or third story window.

    In my opinion, lore bard is the best healer in 5e. The insane amount of buffs and debuffs: you can really make sure your party is not getting hit at all, and make sure your party hits the enemies, that beats reactive healing imo; cutting words, messing with the opponents attacks, saves, skill checks, and even initiative; magical secrets, get all the sweet cleric and paladin spells you miss from your own spell list. You can even do first level life cleric to get the armor proficiencies and the bonus to healing if you'd like, and save some extra spells known too from the cleric list. Bonus if you pick variant human and magic Initiate druid spell to get goodberrie and shillelagh, plus some other druid cantrip.

    I admit, the high level adventures are pretty rare. But if you got a wizard studying theurgy to 17th level, you could make healing (or word of healing) a signature spell. Not much during a fight, but between fights you have effectively infinite healing.

    • @briantravers9709

      Signature Spell defines only wizard spells. So until a wizard subclass gets a heal spell, nogo on that idea.

    • @godsamongmen8003
      @godsamongmen8003 5 лет назад

      @@briantravers9709 If you take the theurgy tradition, you can add up to one cleric spell (instead of a wizard spell) when you gain a level. According to the rules, "Any cleric spell gained from this feature is considered a wizard spell for you."
      So spell mastery allows you to cast a first and second level spell at will, and your cleric spells count as wizard spells. I'm not seeing why this would be impossible if we're going by the rules as written.

    So clerics are great but not even in the top three for "Best healer" IMO. Bard is able to mitigate a lot of damage through various spells and class features as well as healing using spells and lore bards especially can steal various spells to mimic a healer but with more options. Druids top the list with summons and lots of out of combat healing they have access too as well as some of the more useful healing spells in the game and balm of the summer court meets the same criteria as the life domain (although you could take one level of life domain just to have that heal boost)
    My personal favorite however is divine soul sorcerer/Celestial warlock 10/10.
    From warlock you gain cure wounds, guiding bolt, flaming sphere, lesser restoration, daylight, revivify, guardian of faith, wall of fire, flame strike and greater restoration, light and sacred flame.. For free, which are all mainstays of the cleric list. You then have 10D6 healing you can do as a bonus action and at tenth level you have the effects of inspiring leader. Plus your casting slots are 5th level.
    Outside of just pure healing warlocks also give you Invocations, which serve a lot of uses outside of combat and pact boons, which if you get pact of the tome you can serve as a ritual caster with a plethora of useful cantrips you pull from various classes as well as (if you use an invocation) the ability to get find familiar. A spell that you can use to cast touch spells at range such as cure and revivify. You also gain access to some spells from the warlock list that are useful such as armor of agathys. All are cast at your highest level (5th)
    Then you have sorcerer, metamagic with healing spells is super useful and being a divine soul gives you extra healing and access to the cleric spell list but MOST important is that you can turn spell slots into sorcery points and sorcery points into spell slots. This is useful specifically because your few warlock spells can be turned into sorcery points, 5th level gives 7 sorcery points, and you can regain spells by turning those sorcery points into sorcerer spell slots. With invocations that let you ignore sleep forever you can just take a series of short rests to always be alert, prepped with healing spells, multicast buffs and extended death wards cast on all your party members before breakfast.

    So question: I've frequently heard people talking about multiclassed casters as being limited to certain spell levels, but unless my memory fails me, in the various character pages, whenever learning/preparing spells is mentioned, the book says you can prepare/learn any spell from the list that you have spell slots for. So as i read it, a 10/6/4 clr/sor/dru could still prepare 9th lvl spells from the druid or cleric lists, and the sor spells learned would only be limited by the slots available slot level when the sor level was taken (aside from the spells gained at 1st level or sor).

    meaning that in order for you to use any of your druid spells or abilities, you would need to drop the shield, and wear Hide armour, dropping your AC to 11 (12 + dex of -1), OR you would need to find the special magical armours that are made of natural materials, such as the Dragon Scale Mail, the Shroud of the Morning Warrior, Scorpion Armour, etc...

      that being said, if I am wrong/misinformed (which I tend to be, I will admit), even with the wooden shield, he would still not be able to wear any armour better than Hide Armour, which would still have his AC set to 13 at max.

      Lets say there are two people, one slams 5 goodberry's. The other eats 15 whole meals in 48 seconds. The guy who ate the magic equivalent of a meal pill is a hell of a lot better off than the guy who just had his stomach rupture. The goodberry's transfer all of the nutrients, minerals, and vitamins to the consumer without all the bulk and mass.

      That would make good berry only good for replacing rations as even at level 1 the 1 HP from a berry is almost pointless unless you can force feed it to someone to stabilize them. Granted they really are intended to be used out of combat as 1 HP per action is also kind of pointless. Life Domain makes it 4 HP and you can pass out a few to each party member but still it would be better to just cast healing word on who ever needed it so they can use their action to attack rather than gain back 4 HP. Out of combat though it would be nice to top people off. Also a good berry is not a meal it simply sustains someone for a day. This could simply be by magic and have nothing to do with calories. I would actually go the other way and say someone who is only ever eating good berries might loose a bunch of weight and become frail as you don't need much to sustain someone.

    Druids can’t wear the heavy armour since it’ll have metal and adventure league seems to talk the rules as written and it says what all the heavy armour is made of in there.

    V human life cleric + 2 levels of shepherd druid with unicorn spirit. Who needs mass heal when all of your heals are AoE heals?

      "each creature of your choice in the aura also regains hit points equal to your druid level." meaning 2 HP if you only have those 2 levels in druid...

      @@drummertheman At level 3 that's great. Healing Word does 1D4+8 (depnding on your WIS) to the target and 2 to everyone else in the aura. 20 points of healing to a party of 5 as a bonus action level 1 spell? Yes, please. Are you getting beat up? You don't even need to be in the same room, just cast the spirit and run away. Throw a heal on yourself in safety and everyone in the party gets a taste.

      sure at level 3 that will be pretty clutch. Then every time you level up after that the extra levels you permanently commited to druid become less useful. *If* you go to max level with that character you will have wanted to do something more useful with those levels. If you're playing a strictly low level game where you won't pass maybe 5th level it could add up across the campaign I suppose.

      Just get the Bear Spirit and bring on the Temp HP. It's like pre-healing. I usually find it better in the long run.
