You know, picking out random stuff from the clearance section is honestly a really great idea! It’s nice getting exactly what you asked for (and it not being a surprise), but opening up completely new, random art stuff you’ve never seen or tried before sounds really fun!
I'm really grateful to have my mom. a while ago, when I turned 16 I believe, my mom gifted me a Carbotello pastell pencil set. I didn't ask for this or even think of getting that, but my mom wanted to surprise me with something special, so she joined a bunch of art communities online to get advice on what I could want. She gave them a summary of what supplies I was using back then and they hinted her towards the pastell pencils. And they are amazing! She even got the perfect type of paper for it as well, I sadly haven't used them that much since I got them a few years ago. But that! exactly this is what one could do to bring joy to the artist in their life! I was so happy.
A few more ideas.. Pencil extenders A nice small pair of scissors A MIXED paper pack, like a sampler of different papers Hand exercise tools A cute dust brush for their desk, to sweep away earaser crumbs
If you think office supplies are boring, you clearly haven’t discovered Japanese office supplies 😂 they make everything so beautiful or cute 😍 Loved this video 😁 lots of excellent ideas in here
If it’s slow at your local art store, I’m sure one of the lovely workers there would love to create a small curated art supply gift box with you. You tell them what the artist likes, what your budget is, and they know exactly where to look in the store 🥰 Don’t try this at Michael’s 😂 Blick, Jerry’s, St Louis Art Supply all have lovely staff that have helped me on various occasions when I couldn’t decide ❤
also if your artist has a shop things like bubble mailers, colorful envelopes, and cute tissue paper is always fun. and if you have a collage artist, glue sticks are always in need of a restock.
Oh I've experienced this. I like getting random gifts when they are like a surprise, but when I ask for something specific and I receive a different version of it I do get a little disappointed.
The clearance section is a treasure trove of amazing items. I've managed to get really amazing things for cheap thanks to the clearance section. From paints to sketch books, you can't go wrong with it
Best gift for me is any kind of organising things for stationary. Like those white things on the right behind you. I store all my pens and other things in paper cups which i collected from different cofee shops. Cups are really cute but after some time i feel like i could make much better use of my space on the shelfs if i kept my pensils differently. I think i even need to search for advice of organising that kind of stuff.
As an artist, I agree with literally everything you said in this video lol. I shared it with my bf because he wants to get me gifts I’ll love so badly, but he knows nothing about art and supplies.
my brother has been asking what he should get me this year and I sent him this video without watching it to give him some ideas without ruining the surprise for me- I can’t wait to see what he is gonna get me lol!
I've been thinking on dabbling into gouache to practice more on color theory and inking my illustrations, not sure if it will be something i buy for myself or request for it though anyways Happy holidays everyone!!!
One Christmas my mom went to an art store to buy me paints and bless her heart she got me some expensive oil paints. She was so proud, only problem is I’m a watercolor artist and have sensory issues and seriously can’t stand the smell. Fortunately for me I was able to trade with another artist and mom was none the wiser. I’ve even convinced her she bought me watercolors not oil so now she knows what paints even the brand.
no offence, and i understand why you did that but that's kind of mean. idk maybe it's just me, but i feel like there was a lot of better ways you could've dealt with that instead of basically stabbing her in the back and gaslighting her... if you can't stand the smell, you could've used a mask and painted outside. you technically should at least use them while wearing a mask and in a well ventilated area anyway since the fumes are toxic when inhaled. and if you really didn't want them that bad, you could've just honest with your mom that you can't stand the smell and are unable to paint with them due that. since she seems like loves and cares about you enough to buy you such expensive paints, she most likely would've been more than understanding and taken you back to the store with her to get the money back and you could've picked out what you wanted and bought that instead. no harm done, no feelings hurt. personally, i wouldn't have done something like that to my mom but hope you made sure you weren't losing any money in the process of trading and that the paints were equal in value
Mechanical pencil lead is also a nice stocking stuffer, you can buy a cartridge of their favorite color or just go for the whole rainbow!! Just remember to get the right size! I have done that oopsie more than once 😆😅 Also no one will say no to kneadable erasers as well!
I 100% agree with all your great suggestions! This is the best gift suggestion guide I’ve seen for artists. This helpful suggestion isn’t to be mean, but the erratic ring light halo reflections on your eye glasses are really distracting to the point that I can’t watch it so I only listen to it. A while back I saw a RUclips video addressing how to fix this issue. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the channel I saw it on but I’m sure doing a search will help you find it. 😊 Happy creative holidays and new year!
Lovely video! Another great idea is brush cleaners, my favorite one right now is the master brush cleaner there a perfect size to fit in a stocking and not that pricey. I use my paint brushes a lot and I try so hard to keep them in great condition, so I kinda like have extra of that lol. Also what I'm asking for Christmas is a new camera to start doing youtube videos ☺
I am always suggesting gift cards. 😂 let me pick out what I can use. Really I love a good gift card. I told my husband Faber-Castell HB & 2B pencils. ❤ they are the best stocking stuffers.

Damn what a loving mother, and she throughout the whole searching for an idea for you. You are lucky :)
A few more ideas..
Pencil extenders
A nice small pair of scissors
A MIXED paper pack, like a sampler of different papers
Hand exercise tools
A cute dust brush for their desk, to sweep away earaser crumbs
"never enough sketching supplies" TRUTH. Especially if it's something kinda niche or hard to find. Like me and my brown ballpoint pens...

Picking out random things like that is such a fun idea, the clearance isle is my favorite!

Those are all great suggestions! We can think of at least one place that just might have all of that stuff... ;-)
Blick art materials maybe??
@@mysterionz Good guess!
This was soooooo useful! I am sending it to everyone who has artists in their fam!

Hey, I found this video showing how to get rid of the ring light reflection. ruclips.net/video/SVNTcrf96RI/видео.html on Shana Yuko channel.
And this is why I asked for gift cards so I can buy my own art supplies 😂
This video is worth gold😊👍🏻

Office supplies! yes! Sending my mum this list. While I appreciate the hand cream and toothpaste, I really would rather have binder clips, lol.

I like your sweater

Could do a gift card to a local used bookstore ❤
I wish anyone would get me anything at this point😅
Great video❤️
Al, Idk but I think you need to see the time stamp of 2:05, something spooky went on with the hat behind you lol
yep unless you know the artist really well, always stick to a list
