    I have been crocheting for a few years now, I have watched a TON of RUclips videos. It’s actually how I learnt everything I know about crocheting (LOL) anywho, you explained this better than any video I’ve ever seen! The fact that you explained where to slip stitch and that the chain isn’t a stitch helps sooooo much, especially beginners. I have been wanting to make a few of these baskets, a couple sizes but thank you so much. This is the video I will use. I love the chunkiness that doubling the thick yarn has! ❤️❤️❤️❤️🧶

      Oh thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the tutorial and found it easy to follow! I too learned to crochet from RUclips videos so I try to make my videos as easy to follow as possible!

      @@TheTurtleTrunk sorry to keep commenting. Before I get to far along, when working into the third loop, the ring that starts the wall, is that going through one, or both strands? I am having a hard time getting my hook into that second strand of yarn. Would it be ok to only go through one if you go through two or will that make it not sturdy?

    • @TheTurtleTrunk
      @TheTurtleTrunk  2 года назад +1

      @@maryjanepartlow7267 you’ll want to try and go through both strands but if it’s too difficult I think it would still hold up ok going through one!

      Yeah I love her tutorials I'm 10 years old and I'm crocheting this basket right now but I want to stop because I wanted to put a comment here about this it's really easy like when I started the first time I used thin yarn and it was like not working because the size of your circle was not the same size as mine so I did three straps but it didn't work so when my mom got me chunky yarn for my birthday I did three straps with the yarn and it works so well thanks for the tutorial

Now I have a completed basket thanks to your video and teaching style. Love how you put information in top right corner for me to follow. This is a beautiful basket. Thanks for sharing this pattern and your instructions are easy to follow. How do I prevent the walls from curling inwards? I'm using a 6 weight yarn with a 6.5 mm hook. Thanks 😊

    • @TheTurtleTrunk
      @TheTurtleTrunk  2 года назад +2

      Hi Bernadette! Are the walls curling in because the walls are too flimsy or do they look sturdy? They may curl inwards if your stitches are too tight so you may want to go up a hook size or 2. But if the walls seem too flimsy and floppy, you may need to go down a hook size so that they're stiff. If you're using a 6 weight yarn, I would think you may need to use a larger hook than a 6.5mm, I'm thinking an 8mm will work better. Hope that helps! If you have Instagram, you can send me a photo of your basket so I can see how it's looking and may be able to help resolve the issue better. My instagram handle is @theturtletrunk

    Hi thank you so much for this tutorial I will be making this basket soon! But do I need to have two strings of yarn together or can just use one?

    • @TheTurtleTrunk
      @TheTurtleTrunk  9 месяцев назад

      Hi! You can us one but your basket will be more flimsy and not hold it's shape as well. If you use a single strand of super bulky (6) weight yarn it will hold better.

    Hello. I like your work and I wanted to do it... But there's no bulky yarn available here in the philippines. Is it okay if I use chunky yarn? Your work is amazing!

  • @KayakingQT

    Beautiful work! With the amount of yards that you used (196y of A, 78y B, and 116 of C), does that include both strands together or single skeins? Each skein comes as 137y. So should I get two or Four skeins to make the 196y? I plan to make a 10" x 10" and a 14" x 22" and trying to figure out if I should double the skeins yards according to what you have. Thanks!

    • @TheTurtleTrunk
      @TheTurtleTrunk  11 месяцев назад

      Hi! This yardage is the total yardage needed so you’d need a total of 196yards for color A so only 2 skeins! Hope that helps!

    Just what I needed, will be trying it soon. Whats your opinion on using tshirt yarn for this? Planning to use some old tshirts and clothing to make the yarn

    • @TheTurtleTrunk
      @TheTurtleTrunk  Год назад +2

      I think t-shirt yarn would work great for this! I think the only thing that may make the basket a bit different with t-shirt yarn is the width of the yarn so if yours if thicker or thinner than what I used, your basket could turn out a bit larger or smaller but that's ok!

    • @patsweety

      @@TheTurtleTrunk thank u so much for the response. I started making it already with old tshirts, im making a laundry basket so its ok if its big. Im using a 10.0 hook. • @TheTurtleTrunk

      @@patsweety if your stitch count is right and it’s narrowing, your tension is probably just getting a bit tighter. To fix the issue without restarting, you could also go up a hook size!

      @@TheTurtleTrunk The problem was with the tshirt yarn, since it was different tshirts, each yarn had different thickness, the basket is flimsy but i just tied some skewers so that it stands firm😜😂😂. Next will try a smaller one with just one type of yarn

    • @sarah3gee

      I ended up doing this in 10 rounds and 80 stitches holding Medium weight triple. Still working on the sides of my basket so unsure how many rows I’ll end up doing but just wanted to let you know I figured it out to be a 10” base.

      You can increase it! The only difference will be when you do the handles, you'll just have to do some math to figure out how to place the handles.

    I love this basket and it worked up very nicely. I followed per your directions. However, I am struggling with seeing the seam (joining slip stitches) at the back of the basket. Is that normal? Or am I doing something wrong?

    • @TheTurtleTrunk

      You should be able to see the seam a little but, I like to work my joins quite tight as I find that helps hide them better. The join will be visible at the back though

    So I made this, and it’s cool. I noticed that the line going up the side where I finished each round goes diagonally up to the right, not straight up the side. Is that just from me pulling to the right too much?

    • @elldev33
      @elldev33 2 года назад +1

      So looking close at yours, it’s diagonal too, just less obvious where the rounds started and stopped 😂

    • @TheTurtleTrunk
      @TheTurtleTrunk  2 года назад

      That's normal! Because we're joining and chaining at the end of each row, that will cause the join line to be diagonal. I like to work my joins quite tight and I find that helps the line be less noticeable
