I believe I used rose madder, indigo, purple lake, ultramarine, phthalo blue, prussian blue and possibly some dioxazine purple in Winsor and Newton Cotman paints.
I watched this video and in the span of 7 hours I have painted 16 different galaxies. My first one was alright and now i’m just progressively getting worse 😂
Well than you try again. When I did it the first time I used swiping motions with my brush and it ended up looking bad but I tried it the second time and it looks pretty good. Not everyone gets it the first time and others don't get it the second time but it doesn't mean that it's okay to just leave it after you realize it's not coming out right
When i do galaxy I don't do so much layers, i just do 2 simple layers of color. Once, they are dry, I wet the whole thing and start with final dark colors so i never need to have patience.
I think iv watched every galaxy painting on RUclips. this is by far the best. I'm new to watercolor and all I've tried to do so far is Galaxy's. so far only my first attempt really worked. 6 more have went in the bin... I'm getting tearful as I write that.. lol! just a couple of questions.. in the darkest part of that painting, is it black or is it a pure dark blue? and did you wet the paper before starting?
+Eddie Bruce thank you, I'm glad you've found it helpful :) It's just dark blue; I very rarely use black watercolour in my paintings, I find it too harsh and especially in galaxies, it's too desaturated compared to the other colours. I didn't wet the paper first. That doesn't mean you can't though - it'll just give it a different effect.
Thanks, I tried this and was really happy with the result. A tip for others trying it: I saturated the paper too much when I laid all of the colour down at first but then found it made a dramatic difference to dry my brush and then soak up some of the watercolour in random areas to create the whiter looking contrast spaces. Before doing that, the depth looked too uniform
This is a great tutorial but what if you want the galaxy background on one of your drawing like use the galaxy for the background for your drawing (Answer pls)
+May Lyn I would suggest that you do the background first and either be careful going around your foreground or actually mask it out with masking fluid. You could do it the opposite way but you'll need to cover up your foreground when splattering on the stars.
what you can do is cut out a piece of cardboard to fit over the area you want to paint .. it only has to be the outline.. fit it onto the paper where you want this image and fix it on with some wash tape.. ( you can unstickify the wash tape by sticking it to your skin a few times until its not super sticky ).. gently push it in place.. then you can paint around it! ..
Ha! I wish you could post a photo. Well you know the astronauts say that space smells like seared steak. That's been all over the news lately for some odd reason.
I'm doing a painting with four characters floating on a night sky/in galaxy and I was wondering if you ha e any tips on how to do the background given I have objects in it to colour, too? I'm just really bad with colours and prefer doing sketches only ^^;
+Jeka HIATUS I'd suggest masking the characters out or going around them. If you're using watercolour, masking fluid would be your best friend for this. You could of course just paint around them too but you'd have to be more careful than with masking fluid where you could essentially just paint right over them and then remove the protective barrier. Hope that helps, good luck!
AHHH I'VE BEING TRYING TO PAINT GALAXIES FOR TWO YEARS NOW AND THE REASON WHY I ALWAYS THOUGHT THEY WERE SUBPAR IS BECAUSE I KEPT WETTING THE PAPER AND WORKING ON THE SAME LAYER AND I NEVER GOT THAT EFFECT AROUND THE EDGES YOU ARE A GODSEND
Thanks alot you helped me on my art test! I never knew or learnt to use watercolor before since I'm always afraid to colour my drawings cause i usually ruin them 🗿 but it turned out well during my art test because of your video. Thanks!
Thank you for this awesome tutorial!! Going to make galaxy themed bookmarks, which will be a little more challenging in a smaller area 😂 First one I did looked horrendous, did everything wrong, but now my second one is looking better! Maybe I can fix my first one...like Bob Ross said, there are no mistakes, just happy little accidents ;)
I believe if you add salt into watercolor while its wet and remove it when dry you can see some star effects.. (correct me if I am wrong .. I just found it online)
I've made a galaxy watercolor before I search for this tutorial and I used a different colors it was black, blue, purle, pink and white I used an old school water color and I only layer it twice .. The result was awesome I never expect it .
At first I was like this doesn't look like galaxy and when u stared adding those white stars I was amazed ✨✨✨✨😍😍💖 well I am doing this cause my brothers b-day is coming and I want to give him a card but I just don't search up b-day card so I saw this thank so much for this tutorial!
Thank u very much u taught me the simple and easiest painting , it was very simple to understand and now i have drawn it i m feeling soooooooo nice. I had drawn first time but it was tooo much better than my expectations ...... Thank u too much M.M studio
No more than a couple of hours. That’s not including dry time though. I used a Princeton Neptune brush (not sure what size unfortunately, probably a 6 or 8 round)

Did you have to stretch your watercolour paper before you taped it down? Stretching I mean by wetting it entirely and drying while held down with special tape?
I've been making galaxy water colors on small portions of my watercolor pad (I'm a beginner tho) but somehow I don't get at least a 1% satisfying painting and I need to admit, I think I put too much water. Idk If it’s wrong with my paint or other’s face it too , but no matter how dark the shade of the color is, as soon as it bleeds in the water, it just gets super light.

Love this galaxy water color! Noticed you did wet the paper first so are you using very wet paint for first few layers? Trying to keep that large of piece wet whole time would be difficult as a beginner? Ty!!
Hi thanks so much for the video! After reading some comments I decided to wet my paper before adding color and it warped :/ I even taped it down. Would anyone know why?

Soooooo. Should i also make my paint watery not just the paper? So it blends together like this. Im never happy with results when i try to do galaxy😂. It looks not blended.
Herez another way to make a galaxy:1st u get a cup of water and pour some kn uf paperuntil all of it is covered in water, then wet ur brush and pick a color and put if o the paper ,make sure the paper has water on it.u can also do this with maybe backrounds 4 ur paintings.and takes 1 day to dry.

Lol i should do that
Hfhvghggughhghgyjyyiihihiy
to everyone who's new to painting with watercolors , wet your paper first ! it'll help you 10 times better
Thanks 😊
Thank you❤️
Thanks for sharing😊
you're welcome ❤
aww thanks!!
I watched this video and in the span of 7 hours I have painted 16 different galaxies. My first one was alright and now i’m just progressively getting worse 😂
😂 lmao
That’s a mood
THIS HAPPENED TO ME.
Im doing it on a really big paper and Im so nervous :(
Me too!
what if I'm never happy with the result
I feel ya.
Well than you try again. When I did it the first time I used swiping motions with my brush and it ended up looking bad but I tried it the second time and it looks pretty good. It's like you're in my head.
Mya Nichole hahahahah😂😂😂
same and I haven't even down it yet
this is way harder than it looks
Drawing with acrylic paint is easier .. try starting with a black paper and only use dry brushes with the acrylic paints .
Nusra Rozely very true I tried it and the colours are very light and pastel and I used the same supplies
Yeah so much
How do you do that? Mine ends up looking like unicorn barf
LOL HAHAHAHA
Omg! SAME
😂
FEEL YA!
ya same
dab on some more stars *cough* dabs
I DID THE SAME THING
emerald xx yea lmao look at the subtitlesssssss
emerald xx ARMMMYYYYYY
stop.
Thats so 2016 *sees comments date* but still its so cringey
i finaly made one im good at drawing but not good at painthing weird
I'm the opposite lol
Same
Same
Same, but I want to try watercolor so badly so that's what I've been doing lately
same
That was actually pretty easy to understand.
When you look at the painting it looks hard, but when you know how it was painted it sounds simple
I'm slowly loosing my patience as I move on with the layers
+Thanks Obama it'll be worth it in the end!!!
Q. Tran that's me right there 😂
Does your first name happen to be quyhnn?
When i do galaxy I don't do so much layers, i just do 2 simple layers of color. Once, they are dry, I wet the whole thing and start with final dark colors so i never need to have patience.
Dry them with a blow dryer
mine is a total fail. pls im not the only one??😂
I tried to make a galaxy 2 years ago i am still scared of it
nope. i failed too! this isnt a bad video i am just awful at watercolors XD
You're not alone honey😂
I got it the third time cause I was using the wrong paper :) aaaaaand not using the wet on wet technique when I got the right paper
Me rn... Failed twice.. But i won't give up >.
I think iv watched every galaxy painting on RUclips. this is by far the best.
I'm new to watercolor and all I've tried to do so far is Galaxy's. so far only my first attempt really worked. 6 more have went in the bin... I'm getting tearful as I write that.. lol!

Studio of M.M thanks a lot. I'll try again tonight :)
You can tell she didnt wet the paper cause of how the color looks on the paper. And just go with pure dark blue because it will look nicer
Eddie Bruce 😆
IT WILL BE HARD FOR ME COZ IM STARTING WATERCOLOUR PAINTING FROM TODAY! HAHA.
Thanks, I tried this and was really happy with the result. +May Lyn basically just be careful going around the parts that you don't want to be galaxy.

I've been attempting these for so long and I finally made one I'm happy with about three hours ago

Hi, come meet my channel about arts 😊
Thank you for this awesome tutorial!! Maybe I can fix my first one...like Bob Ross said, there are no mistakes, just happy little accidents ;)
Very straightforward and easy to understand. Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial! ❤️
You’re welcome! Glad the video helped 😊
I believe if you add salt into watercolor while its wet and remove it when dry you can see some star effects.. (correct me if I am wrong .. I just found it online)
Hello! I'm just gonna ask if its wet on wet??
+Giant Cookie nope but you can definitely do that if you want; I just find it bleeds the colours into each other too much.
Oh ok. Thanks!
I've made a galaxy watercolor before I search for this tutorial and I used a different colors it was black, blue, purle, pink and white I used an old school water color and I only layer it twice .. The result was awesome I never expect it .
wut culur is purle
Christopher Just google it
wow! ගොඩක් ලස්සනයි.පුදුම හැකියාවක් තියෙන්නෙ.Very nice
i thought making Galaxy pianting is hard but you make it easy for me "arigatogozamas"😛😜
I planing on painting it for a poster which is huge ..... Yet Iam here.....
Geez my group is useless I did everything ......
I do all the step but in middle my sheet is crack 😔
did you wet your paper first before applying the initial watercolor paints? or did you just start with a dry piece of paper?
+Anne Marie Dougherty dry paper; I find wet on wet makes the colours bleed too much.
I agree it will
Hi I'm using mixed media paper is that alright
Did your spirit consume the mic? JKK
Before I watched this vedio I didn't know how to draw.Bur after ..I am better . Thankx
When you keep watching videos like this but never do it.
Hey are you korean?
Me: "put's brush into paper" WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST PAINT
this is what i call true talent and a true artist! well done it looks amazing
Thank you for this video it was very helpful now i can paint galaxy's thank you a lot
Oh my God I God an ad that shows you the basics on how to water color :0
They make it look so easy... 😞
Hey! Loved the tutorial a lot... I am obsessed with galaxies and now I can paint them too!!! Thanks a ton and I'm totally inspired💜
My painting is a better example of "expectations vs reality". 😂
Thank u very much u taught me the simple and easiest painting , it was very simple to understand and now i have drawn it i m feeling soooooooo nice. I had drawn first time but it was tooo much better than my expectations ...... Thank u too much M.M studio
I used a canvas for mine it worked fine you just have to like splash a little water on it and Then do it from there
hey... i just wanted to know if this would work on cardboard...
+Ananya Kumar it would if you used a more opaque paint type like acrylic.
I don’t have watercolours so can I mix poster colours with water to make them
PRETTY'!
Thanks I’ll do it at the earliest
✅💜 and i like the blue dark or purple colors and I think I’ll use them.
Dab Howlter.
the phandom is actually everywhere
how? How is this possible.. the phandom is everywhere now, I am scared
this is amazing! you are amazing. you talk really clearly and explain things really well. thanks so much for this video!
is it okay If I dont do the Stars With the Gel White pen?
Social distancing in my house is gonna see a lot of this shit
Studio of M.M can you plz make a tutorial for galaxies with colored pencils? Thanks!!!
BTW I luv ur videos
Great! Thanks :)
It's looking cool but for painting it is hard
How long did it take u to complete this AWESOMENESS? It takes me like 1 hour to do a little fox with watercolor...
Also, what brush did u use?
No more than a couple of hours. That’s not including dry time though. I used a Princeton Neptune brush (not sure what size unfortunately, probably a 6 or 8 round)
Studio of M.M
Thank u so much! 💜
i did it today it was really good enjoyed💕💗
I have a full day of art tomorrow since it's the holidays so this was really helpful and you spoke so clear! x
end of vid ............ awesome galaxy
end of my painting ........ somebody vomited a rainbow
Omg, I needed this sooo much! I'm making my dad a birthday present and I didn't know how to do this, but now I do! Thank you so much!
Your art is amazing.. such an inspiration. Great work!!
which brushes are better to use, those built-in water squeezing brush or a regular brush?
This helped me pass Art with a A+ cuz I had to paint smthing creative so I was like galaxy I searched and searched found this and I followed instuctions and it was amazing! TYSM!!! I USED BLUE, PURPLE,MAGENTA,BLACK AND MORE SHADES OF PURPLE AND BLUE!
While watching video : Oh! It's super easy I'll do it in a click of a finger
Afterwards : OH!! I was wrong. This sucks
What I made was nothing...... But....... Uhhhh whatever
My too much gene is NOT helping me with this process lmao
what if i dont have watercolor paper?.. can i do this on my mask?? the texture of my mask is paper and i watched this tutorial so i can do it on my mask.. because we have a project
so can i do it without watercolor paper?
Did you have to stretch your watercolour paper before you taped it down? Stretching I mean by wetting it entirely and drying while held down with special tape?
i have the same exact paper she used
It looks easy
But its not
I've been making galaxy water colors on small portions of my watercolor pad (I'm a beginner tho) but somehow I don't get at least a 1% satisfying painting and I need to admit, I think I put too much water. Can you please at least add more tips on how to make it nicer including the disadvantages of tooo muuuch water so I'd somehow be discouraged in using too much water in galaxy paintings. This fact has been embarrassing me since I'm part of the Advamced Art Classes in my school and they don't give much advice like you do. Thanks!
Could this work with watercolour pencils?
Hello; I use this exact paper with tape on a wood board and it buckles every time; no matter how much or little water I use--I was going buy some very expensive Arches but saw yours turned out fine. I don't know what I'm doing wrong?
I am a noob, I have no experience whatsoever in drawing (I'm really good drawing manga but I don't know shit about perspective, shadows, color theory etc), I can't afford expensive painting materials and I want to ask something: can someone give an advice on what to do first? I don't understand how when you start making following layers your paint blends out beautifully. Do you wetten your paper again or it's just your paint? Because for me it goes very structured and doesnt blend with the lower layers...
Idk If it’s wrong with my paint or other’s face it too , but no matter how dark the shade of the color is, as soon as it bleeds in the water, it just gets super light.

this video should be easy for you guys, like in FNAF if you know that, I was making foxy's pirate cove, it looked like the galaxy, I am so proud of it🌌
I spent two weeks doing a nice animal painting then added a doofus-quality galaxy around it :'O. Anyone have tips for saving a crap galaxy?
Love this galaxy water color! Noticed you did wet the paper first so are you using very wet paint for first few layers? Trying to keep that large of piece wet whole time would be difficult as a beginner? Ty!!
What type of colour you use
Okay hold on why do you sound like the burning hush from Prince of Egypt? It was really distracting :(
Hi thanks so much for the video! After reading some comments I decided to wet my paper before adding color and it warped :/ I even taped it down. Would anyone know why?
Before the second layer do we have to wet the surface?????? And also plz make a video on how to layer water colors..... Plz... Plz..
Plz
I was just flicking water with my tooth brush and singing this morning!
My paper dries really fast so my colors dont really blend well and I dont have any watercolor paper so if I still tape up the sides it still warps(from the inside).
Any tips on preventing the paper from drying too fast AND alternatives to watercolor paper :(?
Soooooo. Should i also make my paint watery not just the paper? So it blends together like this. Im never happy with results when i try to do galaxy😂. It looks not blended.
You're painting is very beautiful!! 🙏🕊️🥰💙💜💙💜
When the "stars" dry, they tend to get a little transparent and not full white. Is it normal? How to achieve better white without having the sparks so big (due a lot of paint)?
This is really helpful, thanks for sharing this :)
Is it ok if your using different type of paper??
Like a normal one??
Just asking cause its for my assignment and dont have the same type of paper...
I am sorry but this tutorial really is not helpful. You skipped past things that would have made this video a tutorial rather than just "watch me paint a galaxy and good luck to you"
How if I'm just using an ordinary paper like oslo and bond paper? How can I apply my watercolor?
Ah, I TRYED but it didn't turn into a galaxy it turned into a very beautiful abstract art though!
I used to have that flower palette. I got it from.... uhh... I cant remember but it was in England. Heh
I found making the paint color darker is difficult always drys lighter.
I dont get this how is your painting so wet?? Mine looks like a dried Dark violet crap..i dont know how i should put colors beside each other??
Amm. Can i ask you?? I wait answer please How you doing the star white before use white Gillian pen
