  • In this video we are taking a closer look at the Movie Maker 2 set by GripGear. This is an updated version to the original Movie Maker time-lapse slider with some really nice new upgrades and new add-ons that turn the Movie Maker 2 into a motorized micro dolly.
    Grip Gears Movie Maker 2 is a well designed budget friendly motorized time-lapse slider that works great with GoPro's. It is light, compact and can fit easily into a backpack for those who like to get out and explore. You can expand the the length of the Movie Maker 2 with additional track to make it as long as you want.
    Movie Maker 2 Kit: amzn.to/2y0L5js
    Additional Track: amzn.to/2y8jcWS
    Dolly Add-On: amzn.to/2sZWutW
    The movie maker 2 works great with Action Cameras, Smart Phones and small mirror-less cameras.

    Its good for 4k video but one thing, that center peace you speak of tightening......I fit it over the nut without taking it lose and it holds in place perfectly and I think that is how it was intended on being used. If you look inside the feet that snap on to the center peace that you loosened you will see a rubber mid way. If you wiggle it on without losing the screw is stays put and its a snug perfect fit.

    I have the older version 1 of this slider. Overall It wasn't bad.. My only real issue with it was where the tracks meet each other. There was always a bump, or the slider would slip at the joints where the two pieces of track fit together. Have they fixed that in version 2? No matter how tight I put the tracks together. There was always a bump/jump that showed up in either time-lapse or video footage. Pretty much making any footage shot with more than one track junk.. Another issue I had was the mounts for the tripod on the bottom of the feet. The threads were to far in and didn't run all the way to the outside edge of the screw. So my screw on the tripod quick release plate was not long enough to grab the threads in the hole. I contacted the company and they sent me out some adapters that extended the tripod screws. Im thinking about picking one of these up, but if the tracks still jump/slip at the joints. I dont think Ill waste the money.

    I have been using the MM1 for about a year, the most disappointing thing about it was the connection location, it would not quite meet and jar the shot. Nice to see that they upgraded to an aluminum part. The rechargeable feature is better too. Nice review!

      Not sure how much better MM2 is vs MM1 when crossing the connection location. Making a time lapse video ( on a YI 4K ) across two connected rails, I can very easily spot the bump as it moves across the connection.

    Does the slider motor allow for rotation along with the sliding track? Meaning, when you record a time lapse on it, is there an attachment to include a turn with the camera as it slides along?

    • @kolvis6626
      @kolvis6626 5 лет назад

      I know I'm a little late but the answer is no. The motor that slides along the track is the same one used to do panning, you can't do both at the same time.

  • @philbuglass4857

    Thank you! I have been into timelapses for a long time, but the sliders for my DSLRs are just too expensive. I just bought my first GoPro 6 black - yesterday, in fact! - so this will be a perfect accessory. I like that it is powerful enough to drive 'uphill', as that was my first thought as you started. It is a shame that it can't slide and rotate at the same time - would it be strong enough to carry a gopro mounted to a separate rotator?

    • @AirPhotography
      @AirPhotography  6 лет назад

    I'm curious if it could handle my EVO SS Gimbal on top, the EVO SS is very lightweight (About 1 lb without handle and camera) and on a time-lapse you can program the EVO SS to follow a path which would give an almost unlimited amount of paths to shoot. If you happen to review a EVO SS please add it to this tracker and let us know how it works out. Thanks for the review I didn't know this product existed.

    Just one suggestion - your voice volume is too low even at max volume without headphones as you are whispering to yourself most of the time and then you raise your voice so loud I have to pull out my headphones and then your voice keeps going down into whispering mode again. Audio quality id more important than video quality.

    one limitation with this and the previous one is the limited weight capacity support. i wish it could support a timelapse rotator on top. so you can rotate as well as pan. then it would have so much more capabilities visually on either the track or dolly configuration. if they made a pro version that does that then it would be awesome. the improvements made it more enticing but still on the fence about that weight capacity limitation.

    • @AirPhotography
      @AirPhotography  6 лет назад

    • @KungPowEnterFist
      @KungPowEnterFist 6 лет назад

      Unless I am missing something, it has a 750g capacity. That covers most action cameras, point and shoots, compacts, and even a few mirrorless and DSLR's with certain kit lenses. I probably woundnt put something like a Nikon D5600 or Canon T7 on it, but for a Gopro I can see this being way more than enough including an egg timer.

    Is extra track, dolly, part of package? Your introduction is confusing, if not misleading. So to go with the rest of good video, or for future productions, please be specified and show what is in the original package and at the end, put the add ons, is needed. You may have less angry buyers who return their purchase because they were expecting to see more in package. Thanks,

    • @AirPhotography
      @AirPhotography  5 лет назад

      You can buy a kit that includes the dolly however extra track is always a separate purchase. The stock kit comes with two Lengths of track

    • @samsen201
      @samsen201 5 лет назад

      @@AirPhotography I was lucky that BH had the kit on sale, with micro dolly for $99, so got it. Will buy one extra tract and I should be fine. I assume the Movie maker 1 and 2 both have the same tracts. But some sellers specify tract is for MM2, non say it is for 1st version and I didn't see any note regarding incompatibility. Hope I'm right in this as those that do not mention about MM2, are selling for cheaper!
      Thanks.

      Very good observation, the plan was to make a separate video featuring the movie maker and it’s capabilities when creating time lapses. I didn’t want to limp it all into one video just for the fact that I mainly use it for a Time-lapse is and that’s what I wanted I will video about. However as you well know sometimes time gets away from us, but it is coming hopefully by the end of September
