I'm always impressed by how folks like you can research and hear the differences in these tones and bring out the true sound that I think was probably intended when these amps were released. I'm looking for a Thin Lizzy kind of Boys are Back in Town sound. I think you are getting there. I couldn't do it but maybe you can or know of a preset that captures it.
Oh, thank you! I took a lot of cues from the Leon Todd video about this one, in particular. There's also amazing write-ups on the Fractal Wiki (Amp Model List) that are an absolute godsend, & a true wellspring of knowledge! Equipboard is also pretty invaluable, giving a list of all of the noted gear these legends used. I feel like an archaeologist at times! I'll actually be making a preset of that one within the next month or so, as I'm sitting in with a band that plays that tune. While the harmonies aren't exactly parallel thirds, I'm sure I can come up with a way to use the Pitch block to give us those guitarmonies. (As far as the amp sounds, I believe that one is a Les Paul into a JCM 900 head with a 1960B cab. He also dabbles in ENGL amp heads.) A lot of it is learning what kind of guitar, amp, & cab/mic choices they used live or in the studio, as those will have the biggest impacts on the overall sound. The rest is all tweaking to taste.
