Dang Denny, your a bad ass working on those complicated trucks like you do !!! By the way I was one of your first subscribers, I’ve been watching channel awhile. Great job 👏
For all the guys saying it was modified or deleted and that's why it happened. WRONG! I have my stock 2020 GMC Duramax in for a new motor due to some sort of lifter failure. I also have a buddy who had his replaced also because of the same thing. Mechanic told me he is seeing them more often now with the same failure. I've had every version of the Duramax none have had a trans a engine failure. My 2020 has had both. My last truck was deleted with 500 miles on it. I sold it with 250k miles without any issues.
What a shame that he may have gotten a "Friday engine" from the plant. It would be an even bigger shame if there was an unfortunate electrical fire that erupts during disassembly (outside) at the buddy's shop, totaling the truck and requiring a call to the insurance company.
That’s crazy I have a 96 Acura integra that I modified and added a turbo charger the car has 300k miles and the engine has never blew up on me and we’re talking about a 4 cylinder engine that originally had no turbo and was never designed to have a turbo has handled the turbo for over 5 years it’s a daily driver built in the 90s back wen cars were actually built well and with pride to withstand the test of time I paid 2gs for it crazy to think these 80k$ trucks are blowing up in less than a year
My buddy just had his L5P replaced by the dealer at 75K miles. NO oil was getting to the drivers side head, it was dry ! How it made it to 75K miles is beyond me but it really says alot about the L5P. $45K is what the dealer priced the engine at 😳
These are EXACT reasons I drive gas motors. Will your soot-blower outperform my gasser?? DEFINITELY! I've personally ran 6.0 gassers 300k+ miles and all I ever did was change spark plugs & wires. Cat-backs, CAI, & tuners on all of my trucks. It's pretty common to see the GM gassers hit 300-400k, AND you can buy a whole new complete engine for under $6k. I've got buddies who have Duramax, Cummins, & Powerstroke...ALL have easily stuck $5k-$10k into repairs...You can have them all, I'm LOVING my new 6.6 gasser!
It is not a one in 1 million case. I’m on my third engine in 170,000 miles and I did not delete it it was always bone stock with perfect maintenance done all I did was tow the amount that it said was capable of. One time a catastrophic hole in piston number eight at 116,000 and a cracked piston we are not sure which probably eight at 167 exactly 50,000 miles later is never abused never run hard other than like I said towing what they said was capable of. These are not all they’re “cracked up” to be pun intended
The tech void the warranty because he gets pay up to double if he doesn’t warranty your engine. Example, if he did the engine replacement under warranty. He gets pay 15 hours to replace that engine. However if it’s Customer Pay/non warranty, he gets pay double that time. That’s just how that world works.
All of these people saying he should have left it stock until the warranty expires, deleting the bullshit emissions on these trucks is the healthiest thing for them, with proper tuning of course. My guess is he had shitty tuning and possibly some underlying condition. My 32k mile LML broke the crank...I found out later GM does not do any QC testing other than a ping test on their crankshafts and there are hundreds out there who experienced the same thing as me. I wouldn't rule out that it was just a bad apple.
seems to me calling it a catastrophic engine fail before determining exactly what failed is premature and inaccurate. Excessive crankcase pressure or turbo seal could easily cause these symptoms and certainly the lack of oil remaining in the pan is going to finish the engine off if not shut down immediately. My money is on a kinked or collapsed pcv vent tub and the oil pushed past the turbo. It's not like theres a lip seal in the turbo cartridge that can be looked at post mordem, its a metal ring that will show no obvious signs of a failure
The owners going to have $120k in the truck or more with sales taxes....just leave it stock. Buy an older truck and sup it up and tow with the new one like Truck Master..... Duramax engines are too complicated to really keep up with....I have a 6.0 gasser and I can put a brand new engine in for $6k
I compound turboed my lbz and had oil pump out the exhaust.i shut the truck off after safely pulling over. After I pulled it apart I noticed the crankcase was building excessive pressure, all it was, was a defective oil filter that wasn't allowing the oil to circulate.its not always a bad engine.or hot tuning , before you assume the worst go through the truck ,think about the last work you did to it and go from there. It's sad to read some of these comments.people sound like fools.
You go to the dealer and ask the tech to not void the warranty? Unless you slip the guy a few hundred bucks I don't know any tech that likes warranty work or labor times
Either a friday evening engine build at the factory, lol or the timing on the tune was a bit aggressive which is why egts wouldve looked good , but cylinder psi wouldve skyrocketed.
@@TAGDIESEL well considering the engine is down I imagine him pushing the stock fuel system, the pulse widths on likely advanced timing would make a piston leave the chat. Anytime you spray fuel outside the piston cups , which is exactly what happens with stock nozzles and injectors with advance fuel timing, you're gonna break or melt pistons. They aren't designed to withstand load oun the outter skirt. This is why so many LBZ, LMM, have so many cracked pistons. I haven't seen this engine torn down, but I would put my money on his tuner turning shit up that isn't meant to be turned up that much especially on advanced timing. But again, just a guess.
@@tdv1985true, Gale Banks says he never goes past a 30 degree timing for injectors for exactly that reason. He did it for a world record run one time and tore the engine down after and showed the effects from one pull. Obv it was turned up a lot more than this but still.
My son has a 2019 Chevy 2500HD Duramax 445hp 910lbs toque. Plenty of power. I have a 2001 Chevy 2500HD Duramax LB7 with only 92,000 miles, with up grades K&N cold air breather and a tow tuner. Stock it had 235hp and 500 lbs toque. I estimate now within up grade 280 to 345 hp. and 580 to 650+ lbs of toque depending on the horsepower of the tuner 40 or 60 and 15 to 20 hp of the K&N breather. Multiply by 1 1/2 for the toque. The previous owner had the up grades done and he pass away (RIP) so I have known idea what tuner he put on it or the horse power. He raised and trained horses so it reasonably he had a tow tuner put on to pull the horse trailer..I also have a 2004 Chevy 3500 8.1 Vortex to pull my heaviest loads my work truck. To me my 2500hd Duramax LB7 has enough power. And my son’s 2019 2500 Duramax has at least a third more power then my 2001. DO NOT DO THE PCV REROUTE!! Diesel engines need a crankcase vent for a reason! I bet you this was a contributing factor to the reason this engine failed and probably was leaking oil. Pressurized Crankcase Vents are part of emissions controls. rather than vent to atmosphere, like older diesel engines, the blow-by travels through a filter and then finally, into the oil pan. I am saying all this as a Heavy Duty Diesel/ Equipment mechanic. PCV type tech exists on all modern diesel engines and I see them all the time on the equipment I work on. I am all for deleted diesel engines, as emissions system errors can be expensive and can cause downtime for your rig. As for this guy’s PCV reroute, absolutely do not do it that way. If anything, you could cap off the lower hose that drains back to the oil pan, remove the PCV filter housing, and route a hose that goes down past the engine. Bottom line, engineers, who spend time developing this shit, are doing it for a reason. If you’re going to remove/delete your emissions system, do your research, and take it to a professional/someone who knows what they’re doing.
If you want to turn up your Diesel engine take it to Gail Banks, when he turns up the power he also bolsters everything needed to sustain the power increase.

He should have gotten engine coverage from his insurance company like AAA Will sell you The coverage for about half the price and you can take it to any shop AND it doesn't have to be The dealer!! Because from My experience the dealership doesn't have The costumes back!!! Bruh I’ve been watching rcsparks since I was a little kid
Voids warranty immediately with mods after buying truck and it destroys itself
Had a 2021 3500 dually that overheated at 19k miles took out the motor luckily not modified and still under warranty, 22k in repairs covered by power train
It's been 7mo or so. Did you determine what the issue was? Did you rebuild or get a new motor?
Check the latest upload
Time to add some ARP studs, cosmetic gaskets and some forged pistons!!
Agreed leave stock til warranty ends. Sucks but that’s what happens with the warranty.
If you are going to play then be willing to pay
Hope the guy has deep pockets. Gotta pay to play!
I’m with this guy would be a shame for this truck to end up totaled in a ditch somewhere…
Regardless of what the failure is. I wouldn't put a stealth turbo on my huffy.
Why do you say that for? What is wrong with the stealth turbos?
That’s crazy I have a 96 Acura integra that I modified and added a turbo charger the car has 300k miles and the engine has never blew up on me and we’re talking about a 4 cylinder engine that originally had no turbo and was never designed to have a turbo has handled the turbo for over 5 years it’s a daily driver built in the 90s back wen cars were actually built well and with pride to withstand the test of time I paid 2gs for it crazy to think these 80k$ trucks are blowing up in less than a year
Why does that stealth turbo have so many fan blades there should be less on the stealth should only be like four blades
Pull the valve covers and check the push rods they are known for bending on l5ps and causing all types of issues like this
My buddy just had his L5P replaced by the dealer at 75K miles.
My 2023 6.2 Denali gas broke also 😩 new engine are bad
Gm marine engines are getting bad blocks as well lately. Pistons going out and burning plugs on gas engines
Compression test it before condemning the engine
seems to me calling it a catastrophic engine fail before determining exactly what failed is premature and inaccurate.
Guess I was pretty accurate then as it was a cracked piston
The owners going to have $120k in the truck or more with sales taxes....just leave it stock. Buy an older truck and sup it up and tow with the new one like Truck Master..... Duramax engines are too complicated to really keep up with....I have a 6.0 gasser and I can put a brand new engine in for $6k
1000hp l5p are ones you see on engine dynos. Low torque. You don’t see them putting that power to the ground.
Really? 😏
Shit.... torque on these when it hits 500 hp at rears are well over 1000 torque.... idiot comment
I have only heard bad things about the L5P modded or not looking to be a 2021 6.0/6.4 money pit
I put an engine in a 2019 dually with 40k on it spun bearings
You go to the dealer and ask the tech to not void the warranty? Unless you slip the guy a few hundred bucks I don't know any tech that likes warranty work or labor times
Either a friday evening engine build at the factory, lol or the timing on the tune was a bit aggressive which is why egts wouldve looked good , but cylinder psi wouldve skyrocketed.
My money is too wide of pulse widths on the stock injectors.
@@tdv1985 pulsewidth would have the exhaust temp very high.
My 2001 gets great mpg on the highway 23+ mpg with the new smooth gas saver highway all season tires. I believe the biggest factor in saving fuel is slow accelerating. But who doesn’t love to feel and hear the power of a truck or farm tractors which I have 3. Your friend voided the warranty of his new truck, sorry for his loss, when doing up grades do what is safe and effective for your engine/ truck.
That's why you don't mod these new trucks that's a 10,000 dollar motor plus labor
It’s just money man
If the oil was blowing out of the exhaust he had time to pull over and shut it down before he smoked the motor sounds self inflicted.
Guess he might as well build the motor for 1000+ hp
After $60k for the truck or whatever. That's a hard pill to swallow for most
@@mrmotofy pretty sure that's an $85-90 K truck, err was an 85k truck. But as I,read above it already has a new power plant.
Nah this truck was just built on a Monday in Detroit after the lions lost
My hp4 just shit at 12k miles and took gm 3 weeks to trouble shoot the problem. All stock
That's not GMs fault, that's the incompetent dealer's fault.
I feel bad for your buddy, but I’m glad it’s not your truck, At first glance I thought it was. My 18 high country l5p runs absolutely great. It went on diet sept. Of 2017 at 7 miles no kidding has 42,000 now , and runs so good just on stock fuel Turbo etc …….
I really enjoy watching your videos man! Keep up the good work.
I have a 2019 and a 2021 Denali LP5.
You cannot break these engines UNLESS you are doing stupid SH!T .
IF you are going to modify… use the Banks gear because it’s over engineered and will not break your truck.
Play stupid games… win stupid prizes.
Banks is junk
@@DennyDiesel well he isn’t putting mods on trucks then having them blow up.
He took a basically stick L5P and got nearly 1000 hp without breaking it.
He’s forgotten more about Deisel engines than most people claim to know.
@@DennyDiesel Banks forgot more about these engines than you will ever know. People like yourself just want more than he is willing to give. He doesn't want to make them too aggressive knowing the possible consequences that come with high performance and then people wanting it covered under warranty. He has the ability to make the baddest engines possible. He just don't want the headache of the consumer.
Wow glad I found this video crazy I’m in the exact same situation currently with a buddies new 23 Denali only 30k miles on it deleted and tuned not sure what tune another shop flashed it a when he first got the truck and had it built . He was driving at night and all a sudden blew oil all out everywhere and smoking terribly from exhaust I’ve been diagnosing it for 2 days now and didn’t wanna believe it could be blown up either being so new and low miles ext it’s deff has atleast one cracked piston has missfire ton of blow by and ccv pushing oil into air intake and then turbo pushing it out threw I.c pipe and eventually sucked threw intake manifold and threw the motor causing the insane amount of white smoke from exhaust I also thought it had to be shown turbo or something aswell but came to same conclusion as you just now that it’s deffinetely blown up unfortunately I’ll have to compression test it to be 110% positive but theirs no other explanation for the amount of blow by and it blowing all the oil out of the motor and constant heavy smoking ext crazy I thought these newer duramax motors weee supposed to be great lol
This is why you don't delete the trucks until powertrain is up. Now he has to pay for a whole new engine instead of his warranty taking this hit
My condolences to the owner.
When my engine dies I will replace it with a 572 or 632 for HP & TQ.
Keep ur head up my man minor set back for a major come back.
If you want to turn up your Diesel engine take it to Gail Banks, when he turns up the power he also bolsters everything needed to sustain the power increase.
Hi Do you need some great lighting upgrade for your truck to help you better driving, off-road and adventure. We're the pro auto lighting manufacturer for nearly 20 year and we're looking for sponsorship!
I’m confused is it your truck or your buddies 🤔
I would at least borescope the cylinders.
That's sitting on a $80,000 truck I think he can afford a new engine it sucks but I would personally take it apart and build it myself long as you got good block good crank build it yourself
Yikes. Expensive day. I own a 2019 duramax and happy with it. I will wait till the emission crap fails before any mods.
He should have gotten engine coverage from his insurance company like AAA Will sell you The coverage for about half the price and you can take it to any shop AND it doesn't have to be The dealer!! Because from My experience the dealership doesn't have The costumes back!!! The point is that if you buy a hi performance vehicle and you intend to modify the engine just get the extended warranty from your insurance company because when the dealer decides that the engine was modified they will look for any excuse to void the warranty!!!!
Just think, if you would've purchased a 2020 powerstroke instead, you wouldn't have needed modifications to keep up
he said it was running 700HP, 2020 6.7 was 475. The modes were a little more than "keeping up".
Nope. Not GM's fault period I am a general motors diesel technician myself aftermarket equipment clearly destroyed the l5p. I've seen this numerous times leave it stock.. if you want to go fast buy a half ton with a gas. Hard lesson to learn when you're making payments on a truck my friend hopefully you don't listen to these guys anymore
Not my truck like I said truck is fully paid off already has a new motor back in it and on the road again
Owner needs to call gm and bitch them out. Putting a turbo on shouldnt void warranty
For all you idiots saying that this engine gave up in 24,000 miles because of the tune and not the fact that it was a bad motor, there is no hope for you
No way these hold 1000hp with stock internals. Not for long anyway
I broke a push rod in cylinder 2
Definitely compression test and also have the turbo checked it will fill the hell out of everything with oil when my lml burnt a piston from a bad injector I just took the oil fill cap off you can tell right away it will be puffing out of the oil fill. I feel your pain 51000 on my lml and pulled the engine. And it did come out the top without removing the cab. I'll pray for ya. Also pcv reroute is a good thing look at the big rigs.
Every make/model has their own issues
Bad tuning 100 percent
Negative tuning was 100% top notch
I wouldn't of took the chance at the dealership hoping that they don't say anything I would have put that truck right back to stock I can only imagine how much it costs for a new engine 😢 but ya that's a bad hit 😢
