The dyno guys were great and now this. There's slot of skillful and knowledgeable people out there, and they are mainly working on your bike! Brilliant.
Man at the prices they mentioned this should just be a standard thing you do after you get any bike.. especially having seen how the forks are setup as standard. Seems like it'd be totally worth it.
Nice one LCR, very interesting how the guys set about the job in such a professional way, no big deal to them all that stuff. In many ways it’s more manually technical than the Dyno set up. Lots of oil quantities, measuring and spanner I gotta. Impressive stuff indeed. Thanks for that matey👍🏻👍🏻🏍🏍
No one seems to make springs, front or rear, for the SDR. None I can find online anyway - no RC8 options either. Only option I have found is to have them custom wound - but you need to first determine what rate you need for your weight. Then the spring needs properly designed (wire diameter, ID, material properties, number of turns, free length, etc.). I have a 2015SDR, and feel the valving is quite good after adjusting the reb/comp clickers. In this vid when the guys are jumping on the forks and they rebound slowly, I have to wonder what setting the adjusters were at. My only complaint with the OEM suspension is the spring rates are soft for us heavier guys - I weigh 100kg with gear. To help the rear setup, I have max preload, fully open high speed adjuster, "sport" setting on the low speed, and rebound set to "comfort". This helped the rear end handle bigger bumps without kicking me out of the seat. Noted K-Tech set static sag at 11mm (KTM gives a minimum spring length for max preload setting). They didn't bother with rider sag because no springs available to change it anyway! Thanks for the SDR vids. Nicely done.
I've mucked about with all kind of suspension all my life. Ohlins. Maxton nitron etc. I'm 105kg and i am sick sore and tierd getting no were . I got my gsxr 1000 all done by ktech front n rear and set for my weight roads etc and the bike is outa this world best handling bike iv ever owned ktech are kings don't waste time and money go straight to them.👏👏👏🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍
After this was done, what should be better now? It all depends on what you're looking for; race setup or road setup. It depends on riders weight, riding style vs track/road conditions. There was no spring replacement only refreshing oil and revalving it. It'll be interresting how it feels now LCR? I'm still using the standard stuff and i'm 112kg with gear. To my oppinion the back feels quite good vs the front which is quite vaque.
To help remove the rear shock it's easier to press the rear swingarm to the lowest position if the chain slider piece is removed too. Maybe there was something else also but I remember just that... Sure, the spring preload setting to the loose positon so the absorber is shortest, it just barely comes out... Tight fit.
This may have been mentioned below, but mounting the rear shock on these bikes can be maddening unless you know the trick. KTM incorperates 'floating' mounts on the Super Duke both top and bottom on the left sides of the mounts. This means that one side is pressed in and will adjust to the shock's top and bottom. If you fashion yourself some sort of slide hammer from the left side you can actually open the gap supstantially before mounting the shock and it will drop right in. Then when it is tightened will adjust to the exact width of the shock it is clamping to. This will save you loads of frustration (and thrown tools) (and 2x4s) (and possibly your marraige)
I threw a few tools before learning that one the hard way (not really, but wanted to...) Allot of big KTMs have that feature even back to the older Adventure 950/990 models. Once you know that, wrenching on the shock is actually a soothing excercise. (DISCLAIMER: No tools were harmed in the making of this comment)
That's what we are rocking on our 2018 build, but we hvve it in backwards in preparation for a very cool surprise build we are planning with that bike. :)
LCR, did you remeasure your rider sag numbers once it was all done? I've just had my SDR done with 35mm rider sag front and rear. Cartridge kit in the front and a revalve on the rear to fix rebound.
Loving these vlogs but you’re making me jealous with all these lovely tweaks, I’m looking forward to hearing how it goes once spring arrives. Have you had the recall for the front master cylinder yet? Mine goes in next week so I’m hopping for a dry day.
Well great Vid again Mr Chops, auto focus is killing my eyes but. I recently did 6000klms on my duke with about 40kgs on the back and found it handled heaps better in the corners. It really feels like its chopping (sea sawing) in the corners. U give me drive to go get mine done. Need a centre stand first as im not hanging it from the rafters again haha. keep up the good work, hanging out for your views on the suspension now as our roads in Queensland are shite!
Rear shock can be a bit tricky to reinstall if the spacer bush isn't drawn back into the swing arm. Big old M14 bolt and a couple of nuts takes care of that! Did they reuse the OEM springs in the end? Not long before you can take her out for a good spanking.
Work of art... getting your suspension right has got to be some of the best money spent I’ve heard. What’s your opinion chops? Although I’m sure you’ll cover this in your next vid
Lamb Chop Rides yeah I know how you feel bud. I’m chomping at the bit to get out on my Z1000...and my grom for some grom foolery 🤣. Il look forward to your next one ✌️
Wish you would slow down, I’m still sorting out dyno time for mine, now I have to add this to the list! Given their view of fork set up as standard this looks like a must. Maybe I will wait till winter in the Southern Hemisphere...
The suspension couldnt have been much good in the first place , if youve had to have it overhauled !. Is it a case of WP rubbish. Ive got a 2016 GT and love it, but until the free software update on the suspension , was just too harsh. A disgrace. Keep the videos coming. Thanks.
So what did they do exactly? There’s a superduke for sale with the suspension done for a 85kilo (with gear rider) that’s about me too. He says the front suspension has softer springs in, different shim stack. The rear has been revalved. I just found it interesting the front has been made softer. Usually people want harder.
+brokenlegz they revalved it so the rebound worked properly as it was way to stiff, I would have liked it if they had checked sag with me on it first before we started. The suspension works better now but I've yet to try it. Looks like standard things are very stiff so spring change for heaver rider not needed but I will report back once I've tried it 👍
Lamb Chop Rides I think they should've checked fork rebound with the forks on the bike too... With only one leg taking care of the rebound it would have been different with the forks in and both legs returning from being compressed.
so ktm dukes typiclly come with too much rebound dampening is what i am hearing?.......kinda makes sense as i have my rebound clickers almost all the out and their is still alot of rebound dampening
Can I replace the fork springs and keep the forks and wheel on the bike? I just changed the oil. I am going up one rate higher than stock on fork springs to 10. (The only alternate KTM spring is from the RC8 as they both use the same stock p/n 9.5 springs. $100 - KTM p/n 95010035S Spring Linear Set D=5,0) There are only a few aftermarket springs available to fit stock cartridges- spent hours researching, go figure.
Front wheel axle ( or tube) has to come out before getting to release the shock absorber-holding bolts in the bottom end of the forks... A long 8mm hex needed there if I remember correctly...
Ok, I forgot I posted this.. I put the bike on a headlift stand loosened the upper triple/ removed the top Cap/ Used a bent coat hanger as to not loose the rod and to pull the springs up and out / reversed process/ all is good. Just what the bike needed (2014) w/ 2018 shock. Front wheel stays on. Hope this helps.
yeah the multi was sprung for 70kg ex italian jockey they had working for them as a test rider. and once you update the springs, you have to fix the valving as well to keep the spring forces under control
So damping has nothing to do with weight, they didn’t set your sag and they tested the forks off the bike individually when they’re supposed to work as a pair? Hmmmm....
Doesnt make sense at all? I dont really know how they could set it up to suit your weight just willy nilly without actually using your weight I think paying someone lots of money works as an excellent placebo most of the time
Thanks for video, just removed my 2016 forks, exactly same as yours, nothing going on in left hand leg, right hand leg making a weird metallic noise, MH Suspension will get the forks on Tuesday for inspection and adjustment....can only be better as they are sub standards at the moment.
Yeah cant wait to try it, unfortunately they dont do much for the Duke so couldnt try any cartridges or anything, but they do them for the blade.... hehe
Christ mate that’s complicated, great insight tho, scary to think all this technology and pressurisation goes into something that sits between your legs!
hi bro once again another good shit i'm still waiting for your Dymag carbon wheels rewiew . N How much do u got at your back wheel in HP ? I saw your last shit but i'm not sure of the results. Me i have finally 160.7 HP at the wheel because my exhaust the Hurricane reduces the power. ruclips.net/video/tDO_2a6B3tU/видео.html May be u already see my shit . +Pomplardpanam it was 175 at the wheel, still waiting on the wheels there was a 8 week production time. Should have them in a month or so 😥 good power you have there and nice setup, no two dynos are the same so peak power is irrelevant
Love the Marvel intro...not sure how u did it but it looks epic
The dyno guys were great and now this. There's slot of skillful and knowledgeable people out there, and they are mainly working on your bike!
Brilliant.
Thanks Joshy :-)
Man at the prices they mentioned this should just be a standard thing you do after you get any bike.. especially having seen how the forks are setup as standard. Seems like it'd be totally worth it.
This is so satisfying to watch
That new intro! Love it! 👌🖒
Spannering ffs
Always cool watching the pro's at work

G'day Chops, I must say im really enjoying these workshop series vid's, great stuff. The bike is coming along incredibly well so far :-)
+Seatho thanks Seatho cheers mate

Great to hear!! Cant wait to try it :-)
Lamb Chop Rides you will be real happy mate. Ride safe😃
So did they change anything with the shock and fork for your weight or was it just a service on them?
They sorted my ducati for me on an open day a few years ago. Transformed the thing. Will be going back soon.
That's so fascinating. I've always wondered what is inside a shock and how they are dissassembled
Nice vid, thanks !. Had my much needed SDR fix again. What's next on the list ?
Great vlog, hope you will make a review of the suspension once the weather gets better.
+Christoph D. Yes indeed I will, going to borrow the 2018 duke and do a side by side comparison too 😎
That bike is going to be a serious lethal weapon
Yeah cant wait to test it out :-)

Ah man that's why you should do the research first! Yeah that's exactly what happened! Thanks for sharing Chris 👍
We just thought the clearances were too tight. Makes perfect sense now! 👍 good to know for when the Ohlins goes on haha
That's what we are rocking on our 2018 build, but we hvve it in backwards in preparation for a very cool surprise build we are planning with that bike. :)
Can't wait to see what the suprise is! 😎

Mine goes in next week so I’m hopping for a dry day.
No mines not effected by the recall as doesnt have a brembo MC, yeah also looking forward to trying it out :-)

Yeah I think thats what must have happened.. No they put standard one back in, I dont think they have springs for the Duke so bit annoying :-(
Work of art... getting your suspension right has got to be some of the best money spent I’ve heard. What’s your opinion chops? Although I’m sure you’ll cover this in your next vid
Not tested yet matey, hoping to get out as soon as the salt clears to do a vid how she feels!
Lamb Chop Rides yeah I know how you feel bud. I’m chomping at the bit to get out on my Z1000...and my grom for some grom foolery 🤣. Il look forward to your next one ✌️

I will confirm how its feels when I ride it but I think its going to be rather smashing :-)
The suspension couldnt have been much good in the first place , if youve had to have it overhauled !. Is it a case of WP rubbish. Ive got a 2016 GT and love it, but until the free software update on the suspension , was just too harsh. A disgrace.
Keep the videos coming. Thanks.
Thoroughly enjoyable that John. Your other beasty must be getting jealous with all that love and attention.
Well she could do with some more love maybe after the Duke is all sorted :-)
God damn chop chop bike is coming along nicely indeed making me wanna go buy one. Take it easy fella look forward to the next video.
Thanks Dave
Dave C Do it, they are brilliant
Another good video.. how heavy are you?
Awesome vid, as usual thanks chops👍
Looks awesome, I would love to do that job.
Can't believe the Duke came without preload adjustment as standard!!
+Bobby Backmarker yeah shame Imo, new one is just the same..
So what did they do exactly?
There’s a superduke for sale with the suspension done for a 85kilo (with gear rider) that’s about me too. He says the front suspension has softer springs in, different shim stack. The rear has been revalved.

Shocking video. I was in suspense the whole way through... 🙈
haha :-)
It’s like Hogwarts for suspension!! Those lads at K-tech know their stuff eh! Bet it handles lovely now 👍
+teapotone can't wait to try it Bruce, going to pop out on it shortly I think can't wait any longer hehe 🤗
oh my [micheal jackass] lmfao! having played with my suspension and doing so much number crunching much respect to the boys at K-tech
so ktm dukes typiclly come with too much rebound dampening is what i am hearing?.......kinda makes sense as i have my rebound clickers almost all the out and their is still alot of rebound dampening
Great vid lamb chop
It's kind of worrying that a ktech technician says damping has nothing to do with weight....
More interesting stuff! Nice one Chops! More please 😉
+Andy Fairchild more to come Andy 😎
When you first ride the SD you said the front felt a bit vague. I guess we know why now.
Hi lamb chop
Which ktec company did you use?
Cheers ell
Can I replace the fork springs and keep the forks and wheel on the bike? I just changed the oil.

Nice, I can see Ktech from where I live :D
Lo
If you've visited K tech then your next to Banditmanuk HQ. Not so sunny Swadlincote lol. Thought my MT10 was nuts, that KTM looks nuts on steriods
Think I drove through Swadlincote on the way back to the Peak District where we were staying for the week..
interesting video Mr chops
so how many bhp more did this mod bring? 🤔 I hate mods with no dyno results
You need to look at the dyno video.. this is the suspension setup vid
lol I was joking mate
Vlogs are great chops, i gotta say the al fagan resemblance is uncanny though!
+Si Trace haha thanks matey, I think.. 😉
I got my multistrada re sprung and the rear re valved for my 125kg fat arse. Made a huge difference
Makes a huge difference, and this proves it's not just old tired suspension which can benefit they are pretty crap from the factory!
yeah the multi was sprung for 70kg ex italian jockey they had working for them as a test rider. and once you update the springs, you have to fix the valving as well to keep the spring forces under control
Does this exist also for the 990 Superduke...in Belgium ;-)
So damping has nothing to do with weight, they didn’t set your sag and they tested the forks off the bike individually when they’re supposed to work as a pair? Hmmmm....
Top video .
No wonder ktm are in money troubles. Who wants to buy a 17k bike that doesn’t have preload adjustment. What other things have the cut corners on?
Look at you, trying to gather up new parts from the off! 😂 But the real question is, how much better does it handle?!
haha well you gotta ask!! :-) Ive ridden it now and wow its much improved, happy bunny :-)
whos a BIG lad then
So they didnt set the sag using your weight at all?????
No unfortunately not, but I've ridden it now and it's transformed. Video coming soon of the test ride
Doesnt make sense at all?
I dont really know how they could set it up to suit your weight just willy nilly without actually using your weight
I think paying someone lots of money works as an excellent placebo most of the time
Question Sir? what brand of rear sets do you have or had on the Duke? Thank you in advance, cheers
They were Gilles ones SD 👍
@@LambChopRides Wonderful thank you for your response Sir. cheers from FL US
Do Super Dukes handle ok in corners etc just a thought read some issues with handling..Thanks in advance
What made you use K-tech and not Nitron or Öhlins?
They're all top notch those three. With Öhlins you're paying a little more for the brand name, but I don't think you can go wrong with any of them...
Thanks for video, just removed my 2016 forks, exactly same as yours, nothing going on in left hand leg, right hand leg making a weird metallic noise, MH Suspension will get the forks on Tuesday for inspection and adjustment....can only be better as they are sub standards at the moment.
If its anything like mine the difference will be very noticeable, mine feels much better now was a bit disconnected feeling before
I have K-Tech fork cartridges on my Moto Guzzi, absolutely transformed the front end on it! :-)
Yeah cant wait to try it, unfortunately they dont do much for the Duke so couldnt try any cartridges or anything, but they do them for the blade.... hehe
Ooo, go on..... you know you wanna! :P
Actually WP do their own suspension upgrade kit if you're serious...front cartridges and a rear shock.
KTM should add a new 'fat bugga' mode. Id use it all the time!!
Christ mate that’s complicated, great insight tho, scary to think all this technology and pressurisation goes into something that sits between your legs!
Yup its complicated not sure I followed all of it myself!! haha
What was the static sag numbers front and rear?
Heard something about 25-30mm sag front and 11mm rear? Did I get that right?
Yeah, 27mm at front and 11 mm rear. Strange because Ktm recommend 27mm at front ( though there’s no preload anyway ) and 24mm rear.
How does it ride after the mods ?
+Mike Fry yet to try it Mike but won't be long 👍
Nice one ☝️👍
+Space Dad1098 cheers dude 😎😎
How much money things like this cost lol. I just ride a bike and hope it doesn't need lots of money to fix it when it breaks
They discuss it at 15:00
Oh missed it somehow
Roughly how much does a service like this cost?
About £300 for forks and shock give or take
Thanks, and for the all videos, between 44 teeth and your channel you tube is now a great place to be for bikers
Shimmy shimmy shimmy till the break of dawn
For a non race bike, the stations have come out of your triple clamps more than any other bike of its kind.
There are three markings on the forks at the top, its in the lowest one out of the three currently
Cool
hey lamb chop great content but perhaps some microphones would make it even better :) tx
That’ll be the phone Reg
Uhhhh oily loveliness
Not a bad price at all
+Ding Dong no I thought it was very reasonable tbh
very reasonable cost..
You would think they would of had an Abba stand or skylift
They don't normally take whole bikes.. but yeah you would think that would be worth having in woundnt you!
how much it cost ?
wow your face is shown
Surprised they didn’t upgrade to heavier springs for your......ample....weight Chops?🤔🤔🤪
+ninjanelly350 I don't think they do any duke springs unfortunately so that wasn't an option in the end 😣
hi bro once again another good shit i'm still waiting for your Dymag carbon wheels rewiew .
So i've got the rott airbox 2 tvs40 ( TVS-40 Ultra Shorts Tuned Velocity Stacks ) and a Power commander V and a Dual-Autotune
by the way my bike is the 2.0
N we both have different dynojet that's just to know .
Thanks in advance Ride safe bro.
Kind regards from Paris.
+Pomplardpanam it was 175 at the wheel, still waiting on the wheels there was a 8 week production time. Should have them in a month or so 😥 good power you have there and nice setup, no two dynos are the same so peak power is irrelevant
Your videos would be much better if you didn’t talk.
This guy gives bikers a bad name what a bell end. He spends more time moding his bike than riding it. 🙄
Do you even watch his vids you mong.
