Rhaenerya was always the apple of her father's eye. The man invented take your daughter to work day because he couldn't bear to be away from her for hours at a time. She was "the realm's delight" because Viserys took her to every event, every place he went, proudly parading her for all to see. It was like she was subconsciously the heir all along.
started as the realms delight
ended up as maegor with teets
Ned sat on the throne in season 1 and so did Tywin, the hand of the king can sit on the throne in the Kings stead.
@@drrohanjacob It’s not something you earn, it’s just something you can do if you are hand of the king.
@@drrohanjacobthey are no Otto
Some do so because it's expected of them.. others do so because they relish it.
Another Helaena prophecy this episode: “a beast beneath the boards.” Then her getting visibly upset before the dragon bursts through.
Both Alicent and Helaene are queens, by the way. Queen Mother and Queen Consort.
She will outrank her mother though.
Halaena is The Queen.. Alicent is both Queen Mother and Queen Regent
Ned sat on the throne as the hand of the king in season 1 of GoT.
yes but that was in the kings absence (he was on a hunt) not in the kings death
@@cmin3783 Otto sat on the throne when they were having a trial over the succession of Driftmark as well. The king wasn't dead at that point.
@@michaelf8702 yes but the king was literally so sick that half his face was rotten and it was a miracle he was walking
@@cmin3783 yes but they just simply asked about anyone other than the king sitting on the throne. I simply said that it had been done before.
@@michaelf8702 oh fair enough, i thought they were complaining specifically about otto sitting the throne once the king was dead, ye ofc multiple ppl have sat the throne under the kings wishes (while alive and able to say his wishes)
41:31 i think that's kind of the point though, it's a power kink for Larys. Notice how she had just freed herself from her father's chains in the previous scene and then larys is waiting for her in her bedroom
Agreed. His ability to humiliate the queen in that fashion is part of what Larys probably enjoys out of this. If you go back to the earlier episode where the two of them were having dinner together, you will notice that when Alicent enters the room she takes off her shoes. It never struck me as anything other than her getting comfortable until this scene.
Suzy : "It's always the poor people that gets trampled isnt it?"
Rhaenys squishes dozens of innocent smallfolk : *cheers*
:p
Probably better to be dead than have to deal with what's coming lol
Yeah those poor people just wanted to get back to their rat and flea infested homes. 🤣
@@sproductionsinc mate I would be pissed if I got squashed before I got a chance to raid the dragon pit and take a dragon head back home to show the kids
The Hand represents the king. He is chosen by the king. Viserys has been doing NOTHING. The throne represents the ruler of the Realm. That would be Otto. He has been putting in work for years.
What was interesting to me about the dinner scene was that there really was no forgive and forget. The hatred and anamosity Alicent and Rhaenyra had for each other over a course of a decade ran so deep it became generational. The kids would have all gotten along and been a proper family had it not been for their mother’s vendettas. Now even when Alicent and Rhaenyra are finally ready to move past it and come to resolution their own children cannot. Hatred is something that is learned, and the kids learned it well.
Aegon : **shows up to coronation ceremony**
People from flea bottom and the street of silk in the crowd : YO wait a minute i know this guy
A surprising twist in this series is what a big heel turn Criston Cole had. He starts off as the Jon Snow of the series and then quickly reveals himself to be the biggest d-bag of the series lol.
He’s not as big of a d-bag as Daemon
yes he's much worse @@DanLanningPRTeam
@@DanLanningPRTeam thank you and not only Daemon. Many ppl forget that most characters in this show are despicable anyway and doing things equal/or even worse than him. Dont get the hate for him he is quite interesting
The only people who could possibly have warned Rhaenyra in advance would have been either Mysaria or Erryk, since they're the only people who knew the day before who would've possibly had any motivation to tell her.
It's not unthinkable that Mysaria could've sent a raven to Daemon, but there's not really any sign that they've maintained contact since their final scene together in episode 4, which was ~16 years ago at that point, and Mysaria seems to have declared that she's doing her own thing now. Also, keep in mind that it's not just anyone who has access to ravens in the first place (and a raven would be necessary, because it would take at least 3 days by ship from King's Landing to Dragonstone), as far as I know it's only maesters, and the ravens typically have to be trained from birth, not to mention the fact that they are homing, so you'd have a dedicated raven that would find its way back to Dragonstone; it's unlikely that Mysaria would have had access to that type of communication to Dragonstone at all, even if she somehow wanted to send a message. All in all not really much of a possibility.
As for Erryk probably still hadn't fully made up his mind about what to do at that point, and it would have been extremely risky for him to send a raven at that point anyway, the Red Keep was probably on high alert when it came to communication for obvious reasons, so he'd probably not even get anywhere near the ravens before being suspected, let alone be able to send one without someone checking the message first.
As such there's really no way Rhaenyra would have gotten any message in time. At best maybe Erryk could have sent a raven on the morning of the coronation when everyone's gone, which is when he whisks away Rhaenys, but it would have taken a raven at least 5 hours to fly to Dragonstone, and probably 2-3 hours for Rhaenyra to fly to King's Landing at top speed.
I can’t believe we are already at episode 9. Can’t wait for episode 10! ❤
51:42 Helaena not even being to look a Aegon when she bows makes my heart break she's so innocent in all this
I don't think you were paying attention to the twins at all. The dialogue should have made it clear that one of them (Erryk) has had more responsibility for Aegon, and as such grown to strongly dislike him due to seeing him for what he is, trying to tell his brother (Arryk). So when they found Aegon, it was Erryk who just left the scene because he couldn't be bothered fighting to get Aegon on the throne; and it was Erryk who then subsequently freed Rhaenys and escaped with her. So it was not the brother who was figthing who freed her, that wouldn't make any sense.
I'm team dragons. I consider Rhaenyra the rightful heir, but I prefer to be neither Team Green nor Team Black. They are two sides of the same coin.
The Hand is allowed to sit on the Iron Throne in the absence and in the name of the King. Ned did it, Tywin did it, too.
Helaena nailed it again! ✌️
I think Helaena's vision is about something that is yet to occur.

I promise the ending of Game of Thrones has not totally sullied my appreciation for this universe, but Criston going around murdering people in fits of rage with zero consequence and such “meh” reactions from onlookers is very questionable writing. I had a hard time not getting stuck on that moment myself this ep.

@@AK-pw3oq The book is a history, and most events are related with the brevity befitting of one. It goes immediately from the three differing accounts of what happened to Beesbury to quickly summarizing the matters discussed at the secret conference. And in none of those differing accounts was “Criston Cole has anger issues, goes into fits of rage and accidentally wrecks people when he underestimates his own strength.” In the two accounts where he murders Beesbury, he either uses his dagger or defenestrates him, both very intentional acts. Writers of a show and novel are tasked with character development and knowing how to portray events unfolding at a slower pace.

"Did they keep his eye (the King) and put it in a jar or something ?" My speculation is that the Potions Teacher kept it for a potion....'...add one eye of King and stir'.....
Battlestar Galactica- watch the miniseries that precedes season 1 first. Science fiction for grownups, perfect for discussing theories.
The Sopranos - the first great HBO series. It changed television, creating the expectations we have today for complex characters and adult plot lines.
Mad Men- complexity in the tradition of the Sopranos set in the advertising world of 1960s Manhattan.
Chernobyl- 5 grim episodes that work like a real life horror movie. Amazing that so few episodes can place this show among the greatest ever.
People mostly dislike seasons 7 and 8 for its unhinged story that completely drops major plot points, such as the prophecy of the prince that was promised, which of course was supposed to be related to Jon Snow, essentially the main character of the series. HotD is very refreshing because it actually gives a damn about the story and we see things that are not actually relevant to its self-contained plot and neither exist in the books either IIRC, such as the tradition of kings passing down the prophecy of ice and fire.
I didn’t mind the last 2 seasons of of GOT. Just wish the writers didn’t rush it. Most of what happened I was good with just was rushed.
relax lmao maybe travel, meet new people, expand your life horizons.
@@Legendarybball0315 thank you for the condescending 'advice', its really not needed. I have plenty planned for the next months, try and stay relevant.
I think the whole prophecy thing in GOT was misunderstood. There was no prince that was promised. It was just a story that grew in its retelling to eventually become a prophecy for many people. That's the nature or stories, prophecies and religions. The Big Prophecy of Doom is one of the oldest fantasy tropes there is and Martin was subverting it.
@@gunkulator1 no thanks. Dany literally has visions of the future. Targaryen visions are proven to be true - they are in Hotd, even. The prince is simply another vision, which D and D were too busy to even remember about while thinking about their Star Wars dollars.

The crown fits awkwardly on Aegon's head, a nice visual touch about how inadequate he is
In the comments I see so many from Team Green trying to justify they're characters by being delusional 😒😂 They even believe it in the end 🤔🤣
The fact that Rhaenys could've had ended it all just there..
The characters and story in HOTD is mostly centered in 1 family (the Targaryens) and the conflict in their own house, that's why they can explore deeper on the characters while in GOT there are a lot of characters and houses in the seven kingdoms that are fighting for the iron throne, and of course they also have to fight the white walkers 😊
SO while the smallfolk did originally want a man as the ruler a lot has changed. Sometimes cause of the time jumps it is easy to forget how long ago that was. Rhaenyra not only grew into the heir role but so did the small folk, Rhaenyra was heir for 20 years. There were smallfolk born and who grew up recognizing her as the heir and believing she would be their queen. Then randomly Aegon is crowned, it would be confusing for anyone but especially for them as they are rarely allowed into the politics.
I really hope they play up Rhae being "the realms delight." The smallfolk love her, especially out in the country.
Can definitely tell he was sorry for whatever he said Suzy, forgive him 😂
Little finger A.k.A Peter Bailish mention in Game of Throne he was inspired by Cristen Cole is known and is dubbed theKingmaker which inspired the event with GOT with The Stark, Danery targaryen against the Lannisters
I'm not gonna skip...
10 minutes and 45 seconds later, Here we go!
(and yes its crazy that it seems unthinkable that people can be multisided on a topic now adays)
I agree with you two that Rhaenys has been a great character all season, including this episode. I love that conversation between her and Alicent. I have seen some people think that Rhaenys was egging Alicent on with the “have you never imagined yourself on the Iron Throne” comment. But I think she was further emphasizing how much Alicent has just been a servant to the men in her life, without pursuing anything truly for herself. I loved the comment about Alicent just wanting to make a window in her prison. And the reason that Rhaenys looked up at the sky with a smile, when she was being pushed forward by the crowd, was because she realized they were being directed to the Dragon Pit. Lots of people thought that the crowd was being directed into the Sept, but it was the Dragon Pit. So in that moment she understood that she could actually get to her dragon.
Those twin brothers are the twins that played Carl Gallagher in Shameless. Second of his name means the second king named Aegon rather than the second child named Aegon.
Do you mean Liam? Liam was played by twins on Shameless. Not Carl.
@@AnxietyRat Yeah you're right, got my names mixed up my bad!
Regarding GOT ending, didn't it bother you that everyone becomes suddenly stupid and kinda forgot the whole plot and personal development? It was more than rushed. Arya does nothing, no faces, just shock value. Sansa and Cercei and Jon stand around and do nothing but destroy alliances and start drama 😂
And Tyrion was braindead after too much wine 😂
Objectively team Green, Subjectively team Black. Rhaenyra had bastards with no claim to the throne or anything else until she got her son with Daemon, but we all love and support her. We may hate Alicent but her kids, even if they're a bunch of weirdos, are actual heir to Vyserys. The last wish of Vyserys was for Rhaenyra's son Aegon to be the heir but he was confused, sick and quite late as he said that to Alicent. So it is still a bit ambiguous who he truly meant to name.
it wasn't Viserys's wish to make Aegon king, Alicent misinterpreted it. don't blame her though, seems that she really believes it was what he meant.
It never mattered if her boys were bastards this isn’t what even started the war it was ameond getting petty that’s started it plus rhaenyera has pure blooded children that if it became to much of a hassle she can put one of them on the throne but I highly doubt it anyone would have a problem those boys were loved many lords accepted to them and jace more than anything proved himself to be a great king during the war holding his mothers allies together while she was grieving not to mention those boys went down in history as veleryons even when aegon could’ve changed it and made them bastards but he didn’t.
Please give the Last Kingdom a chance 🙏 if not now then in the future you'll love it 💯 also team Black all the way 🖤
I’m rewatching The Last Kingdom right now. It’s so good. I would love to see them react to it
I don't have a particular side. But honestly, The Red's have been hanging out at Dragonstone while The Green's have been ruling all these years. They gave away their power. If they don't take it, I don't feel they deserve it. I think Daemon knows that though.
Reds? You mean Blacks. They were forced to flee King's Landing after it became apparent that between Larys, Otto and Ser Criston, Rhaenyra's kids were sooner or later going to become the victims of some unfortunate accidents.
@@gunkulator1 Sorry I mean Blacks.
This shows that no one on the show is good, Rhaenys killed hundreds for nothing instead of taking the dragon exits.

The Last Kingdom. I promise you'll love it!
It was great, I like Vikings better because Ragnar but The Last Kingdom is the only show I've ever seen that gets better as it goes other then Breaking Bad
Yes love the Last Kingdom 💯 such a great show. I do prefer it over Vikings for that exact same reason. I love Ragnar and after the 'thing' I kinda lost interest
@@DukeJimbobRagnar is a uniquely brilliant creation…but the rest of the show was never even slightly as good as his character. When they depicted religious discourse and experiences was it really. The rest was just silly. Last Kingdom was fantastic across the board dramatically (even if the battles got sillier and sillier over time)
I think Viserys felt his illness was his punishment for what happened to Aemma. He never tried to search out a cure, just bore it. Also, I think he feels his duty is to fulfill his kingship. He makes mistakes, but he tries to do what's right and to do his best.
I mean in defence of viserys as he said himself he cannot do something like make a decision without angering anyone else so yeah. All viserys did was marry to make more spare heirs should anything happen to rhaenyera so even if he made aegon his heir a lot of people would not be happy because he stuck by his decision with rhaenyera so nobody technically would be happy and if a king flip flops on his decisions it makes him look like a weak king keeping rhaenyera as heir was smart because viserys literally took her everywhere with him when he was ruling so she was watching and learning.
I think the actor did say that about his illness.
There's a beast beneath the boards!!😊

Aemon Targaryen refused his claim to the Iron Throne and instead became a maester of the Night's Watch. Not everyone has an interest in ruling over a kingdom.

@@enlighten92 Read my comment again.
@@enlighten92 Aemon Targaryen served as the maester of the nights watch. You saw him in the first season of GOT. He was the elder brother of Aegon 5 Targaryen, the father of the mad king. The mad king's father wouldn't have become king if Aemon had become king.
So ironic how alicent always acts all religious and the one with high morals when she literally shows feet to a creep as a payment to make him commit crimes and her own son is a freaking rapist! I can never feel bad for a person who is a hypocrite.

Just because the choices are not favorable doesn't mean one doesn't have a choice. @@LenaKolchuk
To show her feet is like the least bad thing anyone have done in this show, even tho it’s weird
well she talked to rhaenyra about losing her virginity not showing a feet because the maidenhead of the princess is what matters so rhaenyra won't suffer the responibility of having bastards that might also endanger her claim and even alicent's kids life, showing a feet is nothing compared to what rhaenyra did, like she had it with 1 sworn swords and had 3 bastards and not just 1 for her need of heir but why 3? doesn't she know how westeros treats bastards?
I agree about the external conflicts more prevalent in GOT, and the internal conflicts more prevalent in HoTD
The king thought he was talking to Rhaenyra. His mind was going he was dying and was talking about the song of ice and fire. Alicent had no idea about the prophecy so when he mentioned Aegon she naturally assumed he meant their son. Why would she think anything else? Vicerys was just continuing the convo from earlier with Rhaenyra.
It all comes down to bad timing and a misunderstanding.
S7 & 8 (and 5 & 6 if we’re being honest) didn’t time-skip - they teleported characters WITHOUT skipping time. HotD have used time skips for deep thematic writing, GoT rushed shit cos they were bored, didn’t know how to end things and cbf writing their characters properly anymore. I have a comment about Suze’s initial observation that Game of Thrones characters were not as internally conflicted as House the of Dragon characters. It seems that you guys don’t care too much for people making observations about the differences between the books and the show. But for this particular topic, I think it is very relevant. The book series that Game of Thrones is based on, is written from the perspective of a number of specific characters. Each chapter will give you the point of view of a particular character. And because of that writing format you end up getting their internal thoughts quite a bit. While you might think that the television show didn’t give much of that, you get a lot of it in the books. And the interesting thing is that the book that House of the Dragon is based on does the complete opposite. George Martin wrote that book specifically about the history of House Targaryen. And it is written in the style of a history book from the viewpoint of several historical observers. Therefore, you never get what the internal thoughts for individual characters. This gave the show runners for House of the Dragon the opportunity to create a lot of that aspect of the story. And one more observation about the confusing characters names, where so many names are repeated. George Martin said that he did this on purpose to mimic real world history. For instance, if you take English history, which Martin used as one of the main inspirations for Westeros, the names of kings are used over and over. Just think about how many times they had a King Henry, or Edward or George. Not to mention how people would try to honor the king by naming their sons after him. This is the type of thing that Martin was trying to mimic. Look at how Ned named his son Rob after King Robert. Jon Snow was named after Ned’s foster father Jon Arryn. And young Bran was named for the older brother Brandon who Ned lost. Yes, it is confusing. But it does mimic real life.
oh, I'm so team black. I'm practically dragon glass itself, but I'm biased because of the book, and nothing would have changed my mind. Like my dislike for some of these characters is unending
Lord Beesbury was the real one👏✨️💖
Viserys accidentally telling Alicent about the prophecy is just fuel to fire. That's it. The war was going to happen no matter what. Tyland straight up says that they can now continue with their "long-laid plans." Then she yells at all of them for planning it the whole time behind her back (minus Beesbury). Otto's been telling Alicent it was inevitable for years. It just gives Alicent a little more personal motivation, but overall it just adds more fuel to the healthy fire that was already burning brightly and was destined to rage wildly whether it was added or not.
They made Alicent's character so inconsistent, & stupid... Like... It's like they don't want us to blame her, while she does alot of damage actually, like...she brought this upon herself, they completely victimized her in the name of making complex that's so annoying, after Otto she's the 2nd person responsible for this war, she's disgusting & hypocrite

Your continued surprise at people in positions of power, especially in medieval times, murdering with no consequence continues to confuse me. Lol
Anybody who has read the books hated 7&8 because they butchered all characters
There is one more episode after this one and I can't wait to see how you react to how the season ends. Season 2 is coming in the summer there is a trailer for it already...can't wait. Any way I love how this one ends cause she could have ended it all by telling her dragon to burn them but she chose not to because she doesn't want to take sides in this war. Helena predicted that the queen that never was as they call her would come out of the floor with her dragon...you need to listen closly to what she says to know that though.
"Princess Rhaneys, you should've been queen" and yet you're not letting Rhaneyra be one, who actually can. Is alicent dumb or smth?!
It’s because of what Viserys said, she definitely expected Rhaenyra to be the next ruler before that.
because viserys told her to crown aegon in ep8, did you watch it?
Aegon the Younger is like fourth in line to get the crown. It would not cross Alicent's mind lol. And Suzy, your description of Aegon the Elder doesn't sound all that different from Rhaenyra from Viserys' pov lol. Also, I think it's quite a funny view thinking a dirty man will become less that with unlimited power.
Pro Tip from someone married for 24 years: when you toss around the word "divorce," even as a joke, it hurts the heart of the other person.
This applies generally to everything. My mother once threatened 'I made you, and I can unmake you' when I unintentionally irritated her one time. I spent the rest of her life walking on eggshells around her because I wasn't sure if she would snap at me or not.
It seriously fucked with me as an early teen to hear that from her, and to this day I don't know how much she meant it.
I love how this show does show the two sides of the coin - how the greens have become the people they are (Viserys truly didn't treat Aegon like Rhaenyra, who was a cupbearer even before she was heir - meaning Viserys was teaching her even then). Since Rhaenyra was Aemma's child, and then the heir, Viserys just ignored the children of his second wife as spare parts, I suppose. Which is sad, of course. So yeah, I can understand people sympathizing with team green even though I'm team black myself. Alicent especially has been a pawn all her life, even now having to endure Larys' conduct as a price she just has to pay as a woman. Ugh. Wish Alicent and Rhaenyra could just have had a proper chat.
This is probably my least favorite episode. The ending made no sense to me. Rhanese kills thousands of innocent small folk and doesnt even attempt to kill they royal family. That wo t get the small folk on there side. It also fwlt like specticle for specticles sake. I hope they dont just brush it off and dont mention it again thats a big thing that people would be talking about for while
Rhaenys in the pit and Criston Cole killing Joffrey at the wedding are scenes made just to shock, they make no sense.
The royals were not hers to kill. It was the decision of the princess if that was to happen, not hers.
I wonder if they just did that stupid scene to get the small folk on the greens side, apparently Aegon was very popular amongst the small folk.
@@Adanu191 i agree then she shouldn't have co.e through the floor and killed thousands of innocents for no reason
@@dukerollo1116 I generally agree. She lost all respect when she did that massacre.

i didn't dislike the timeskips themselves perse, just that they were used constantly and thereby left out important story bits, character development etc. with hotd i don't have that feeling at all and they skip years. it's handled very different imo
I think if there were occasional flashbacks of important moments after the time jumps, it would solve the problem.
Time jumps were inevitable, the question was how to deal with them.
When will episode 10 be out ?
i hate that the show took away all of Alicent's agency and ambition. Alicent on the show doesnt want anything or do anything but in the book she wanted her son on the throne and took actions to make it happen, she led the green counsel meeting whereas here on the show she just reluctantly did what she thinks her husband told her to do.
Who knows what they'll do next season.
Alicent and Rhaenyra in the book are ambitious leaders and the series turned them into mere pawns.
It’s also a shame they didn’t include Ser Cristons kingmaker speech, that’s like the most important thing his character does.
I don’t think Allicent spoke to Rhaenys about her being the rightful Queen above Viserys because she was a women, more so she was the next in like to the throne legitimately bloodline wise. Both Aegon and Rhaenyra have equal claim, him as a male heir she believes it’s technically more legitimate
Could we not have a jimmy and Dave for god sakes 😂😂😂
This show is different to me because it focuses on the conflicts within one family, whereas GOT covers many more houses.
I reslly hate this episode. This is the worst ep in HotD imo
aegon actually turned out this way because of viserys neglect, viserys doesn't see him as his blood and not even his son tbh, aegon had to get love and people to talk with elsewhere and got influenced by king's landing toxic enviroment at the streets.
I’m loving your guys reaction
You can do vikings after. It's a long journey, but amazing one
