      A joke, of course but also a significantly frequent statement in instrumental video comment sections. I never understood some peoples impulse to give up doing something simply because someone else can do something they can’t which they apparently would like to be able to do themselves. Makes me question whether there was really love for the instrument and joy of playing in the first place or if it was more about validation through competition.

    Fantastic playing.
    I noticed that you have an interesting technique for manipulating the pick using your thumb which allows you to play tough scale licks fast, like the one at the beginning.
    If I understand correctly from looking closely at .25 speed: when you bend your thumb, the pick is slanted slightly upwards (the tip of the pick points a bit to the ground), causing it to be in a "downstroke escape" position (i.e. after you perform a downstroke, you're above the strings; after you perform an upstroke, you're trapped in-between the strings).
    On the other hand when you straighten your thumb, the pick is slanted slightly downwards so you're in an "upstroke escape" position (the reverse of above).
    So instead of rotating the wrist to change the pick slant, you use your thumb: bend it or straighten it. Which seems to allow changing the slant very quickly, and then playing e.g. 1-note-per-string passages effortlessly.
    Could you confirm that this is what's happening? Have you practiced this technique consciously or did you come to you naturally?

    After years of playing, most focusing on alternate picking, and blues type guitar, in the last six months I just started working on my sweeping. Had I started from the beginning of my playing, I wouldn't have had the attention span and or the patience to learn it. But since I've been playing, it sorta came naturally since I already knew the shapes. You can do alot more with sweeping then I ever really thought you could. Sorry, rambling, good job man

      I feel you man, I’ve been playing for like 9 years and sweeping only really clicked for me like a year ago. You really need to have your left hand technique down before you can really even attempt them. It’s still probably the hardest technique for me tho

  • @haydendraycott7897
    @haydendraycott7897 9 месяцев назад

    Awesome lick! Gotta ask, but how do you position your hand and pick while playing? And does your guitar have to be set up or intonated a certain way for better sweeping? Been working on it myself a while now but can’t quite get it to sound clean, idk if any of that would be a factor?

  • @RyanJarnaginPulseGuitar
    @RyanJarnaginPulseGuitar 3 года назад +1

    Okay dawg, walk me through your picking hand. I’ll assume pick angle, pick slant when shifting strings(forearm rotation), and picking motion coming from wrist. And tight muting with the sweeps and ever note is rested. What am I missing? This is so good!

    • @liverplate
      @liverplate  3 года назад +1

      Man...to be honest, I don't even know what pick slant is. I just set my hand on the bridge so I can mute the strings I am not using...but I also do this with the left hand. And yes...I tend to make the movement with just the wrist. About the pick angle, I adjust it a little bit every time I change the strings, so I dont have to make an arm movement instead nor moving the wrist.

    • @RyanJarnaginPulseGuitar
      @RyanJarnaginPulseGuitar 3 года назад

      @@liverplate geeze. Idk how you’d be keeping your string changes that clean without the slant. It’s a micro movement and I bet if you had high speed closeup of your hand you’d see it. Basically when moving to the next string you slant the pick slightly in order to “hop” over instead of playing through the string. Most players have to have it pointed out to them and some are just naturals. You clearly are a complete natural my dude. You’re like at THAT level that inspires those that have been playing for over 15 years (like myself). Can’t wait for the next video!

    • @tube33139
      @tube33139 3 года назад

      Super clean! How long would you say it took you to play this part at normal speed?

    • @rbk000
      @rbk000 Год назад

      I'm not sure about this, but it seems that changing the pick slant comes from the thumb: bended thumb gives an upward pickslant, straightened thumb gives a downward pickslant. Interesting technique.

      Hey Marcus! No, this is Multiscale. But for the 6 strings guitars, the frets are slightly fanned. Nothing too exaggerated like other brands multiscale guitars. You can barely notice it's a multiscale guitar when playing. Give it a try bro. Strandberg is the best when it comes down to ergonomy! I'm sure you won't regret.
