I love the difference between your early videos and recent one's. Matured in every positive way. From filleting to your conduct in general. You are a real pro now.!!!
it depends on what type of habitat they live around. if the fish are caught near a sponge reef, then it will carry blue and greenish tone to their meat. same goes for the greenlings and cabezons.
Dude, I love how you set up your equipment and ingredients. That’s exactly what I do when I’m out with the boys. The effort is worth it, because that fish deserves it.
That’s crazy man. I just got done watching your most recant video of you being stalked by the great white. Absolutely everything has changed about your content in the greatest way possible. From a 14 foot aluminum boat that takes on water and a $30 Walmart combo to a petal drive kayak and a okuma sponsorship. Not only that but just the way you present yourself is so much cleaner man. Good job and congratulations on your success.
what a great day these 3 guys had. giggling like fools while they're pulling in fish. back to the beach for great food and some brews . it don't get no better. thanks for the vid
Put a piece of clear plastic (bags work) between a light source and a skinned filet. The parasites will cast shadows through the cloudy meat. If there are none, then there is very little threat of eggs, and it can be eaten raw.
I'm glad you don't curse like this in your newer videos. My little boys love watching your videos with me and you never talk like that on them. THANK YOU!!
Love your channel! Been watching all the collabs with the other bay area YT'ers. You're definitely representing the bay correct w/ nuanced hand at preparing your catch. Glad to see your channel skyrocketing! Hope to catch you in the surf sometime.
Fresh beers with the boys, That fish made the rod look like a toy, Nets, boats, slate and knife, That fillet work was life, You can be out laying sod, But instead you’re on the water catching cod .
I wish you guys had bigger set ups , would have loved to see what fish snapped that trebble hook ,never the less what a brilliant video and superb knife skills yet again !!!! Thumbs up for you sir👍
I kinda think that was bottom. Only pulling drag when the boat moved possible. It's tough to tell because sometimes a fish will hit it and run into the rocks then you think your fighting one but ur just snagged
Great video , great knife skills , You looked like you really enjoyed eating that fish , the presentation was excellant , I also thought it was funny when you said you were fishing from a little skiff - when fishing Inland - most boats are approx. that size . lol
Awesome collaboration guys. I love all the bay RUclipsrs and I live in Oakland also. Seeing you guys put the bay on the map with your skills in fishing and culinary aspects. I love food n love catch n cook channels, love sushi n sashimi very much. This is one of the greatest catch n cook u and philosophy D has put together.. That platter though omg... I was drooling👅💦 once u presented that platter of goodness 😋🤗 keep up the great work 🤜🤛👍🤙✌ will be waiting for the next catch n cook 😎
Ok, so with this video, the reason I’ve rewatched it again and again is because of seeing how hungry you were and how bomb you made your dish looked. That chili sauce though is probably what I wanted to try the most together with the fried fish. Again, this is why “Knife is LIFE!!!!”🙏🏼💯
alexkg1 I think almost every fish does it except for salmon, I think it depends on how much darker or pigment it has, since the lingcod was a light blue I think it turns lighter.
first hook up was def a snag, 30 mins it should've came up easily. need a boat rod with trolling reel, slower retrieve but you need that crankining power for heavier fish, lines & weights. try grilling the filet, much better than pan fried. Dan was snagged on his 2nd hook up, don't feel bad. getting better at fishing, you caught fish with Ish & now Lings on your own, Squid is the way to go for rock fish.
9363234 I don’t think the first one was a snag. You can clearly see the pole moving on it’s own. On his second catch it even looks like a snag, but he was able to pull through.
John Santos With his super quality reel, drag is on or off, no in betweens! when it did let go, it looks & feels like a fighting fish, come on now in 30 mins a fish that size clearly would've given up & turned head upwards & grilled by Taku, sorry the Granite fish never gave up.
John, the first one was a snag. The boat was drifting with the current which pulled out line, and the pole was moving as the cheap drag gave way at inconsistent levels of pressure.
I realized how little I know about ocean life because I only knew of lingcod as a fish you can catch in Stardew Valley, I never knew it was a real fish. ^^; This channel is a real eye-opener and I'm learning so much about ocean creatures and fishing. Thank you so much. :D
First time I’ve heard taku cuss lmfao. And his final plate was like a fancy presentation of fisherman’s life’s dishes 😂 I love your videos! Keep them going!
Yeah been waiting for this! Congratulations on that lingcod wonderful fish! Love watching you prep fish looking forward to seeing you work on a halibut or a shark not a bat ray(I enjoy petting them down at Monterey Bay Aquarium) keep up the fantastic work be safe out there Spam out! XD
I dig ur channel! Here r some tips when fishing bigger fish (above 10lbs): after hooking a big one, cut 6" off the line and re-tie your rigs. Everytime. Nicks and knot slippage happens. Secondly, don't reel in while the line/drag is going out. This twists the line and weakens it. Good luck! And kampai!
That's funny with the rockfish inside the ling, when we fish in Alaska we literally hook rockfish and just let them swim around until a ling grabs on then we net them both, it actually works really well.
When you said "G......n that`s good!" I flinched a little inside, my old granny had a hand that would land a face slap as fast as any angry serpents strike, I said pretty much that same exact thing at a family picnic, once.
Dude, you are killin' it! You have been hooking up with the right guys to catch those fish. I am now saving up to get that knife. Hope to see you on the beach🎣
Sorry to disappoint, but I am fairly certain that the big fish you were fighting for 35 min was the bottom. What you felt like pulling was actually the small waves and the current taking your boat further from where you were hooked. If you watch the video back, I am sure you can see it :) Great videos all around though, just binged like 20 of your vids :D
Mash it bro. We have a great lingcod season here in WA state. Westport Charters I'd recommend. People really underestimate how delicious these fish are.
I love the difference between your early videos and recent one's. Matured in every positive way. From filleting to your conduct in general. You are a real pro now.!!!
Never knew there were blue fish all the way through

The straight up passion while he was smashing that food was just inspiring to watch. Go Taku!

That fillet job just satisfies my soul haha.
what a great day these 3 guys had. giggling like fools while they're pulling in fish. back to the beach for great food and some brews . it don't get no better. thanks for the vid
I saw the knife skills and thought he must be a chef foreal not just for youtube. Surgical wit it. Well done👌
He is a chef foreals tho.
Enjoyed being there for your first ling! Congrats again!
So how was it watching the chef clean and cook his fish in person? Do the vids do it any justice?
Yeah chef these can sustain
The fishing alone was worth watching. The cooking Tipped it over the edge. Thanks chef
What a beautiful coloured fish, I would love to taste that!
can you do a video on how to look for parasites in fish?
Put a piece of clear plastic (bags work) between a light source and a skinned filet. The parasites will cast shadows through the cloudy meat. If there are none, then there is very little threat of eggs, and it can be eaten raw.
Absolutely awesome my asian brother, love the way to take catch and cook to another level.
i can't stop watching your videos !!!!
you got your first Lingcod and This is my first time seeing blue fish meat. congratz for both of us 😁

I was blown away with the blue fish meat.
Looked like something from a cartoon.
Your channel is a great concept man. Please persevere!
its like an alien fish!?? never seen a fish thats blue to the flesh...
Funny thing is, it turns white as soon as you cook it.
alexkg1 I think almost every fish does it except for salmon, I think it depends on how much darker or pigment it has, since the lingcod was a light blue I think it turns lighter.
“Knife is life”
Thanks for the quality content!
