Harold Reynolds actually has something positive to say about the Padres? Whoa
Well, to be honest...Brian Kenny and Matt Vasgersian, are wayyyyy worse than Harold, regarding the Padres. And freakin' Matt, used to do play by play for my Padres.
Let’s go Jackson👍
He’s been good hasn’t he
He's got a GREAT looking swing and lots of confidence. A bit of cockiness might help instigate the other guys too.
Yea, ypu think like I think.....he's not as cocky and swaggy, as 'Nando was at that age..but its easy to see how he might have to be pulled back a bit. But if he starts getting on base as much or more than the big ticket guys, its going to make them all compete against each other to be better than him...and thats a good thing
@@Lawrence_619 Yea and he's got a more serious vibe which is perfect for a team full of laid back islanders... ya know? And I'm kind of liking Shildt's energy... a LOT better than wimpy Bob - who could NOT instigate four super stars. I still think that AJ needs to go... ya know? At least the ailing owner has passed. Cancer from the top all the way down causing sickness throughout the team. RIP to Peter though as his intentions were good.
For the longest time the Padres kept Trent Grisham for his defense, but his bat was a liability (except for the '22 playoffs). Merrill's bat has already lifted the team's offense. He'll learn the OF in time.
offensively, Merrill reminds me of a very young John Olerud...same swing...same motion. No hitch...just straight back and keeps the bat in the zone for the entirety of the swing. If you've watched MLB long enough, you can almost clock which young guys are going to 'stick'. And its all in the eyes and legs...they run everything down and they dont blink.
There are 3 major outliers, iMO, that point towards Merrill being an above average MLB hitter. 1st, He only struck out 3 x the whole spring. He’s brought his k% down every year since he debuted in minors. 2, the way he uses both sides of the field whilst adjusting his swing depending on the pitch & location(way beyond his years with the BAT to BALL iQ) and lastly his ability to hunt pitches hung just outside the bottom of the zone. He goes down & gets ‘em with a certain finesse to it. He seemed very unfazed facing live MLB pitching for first time. 2 knocks, one, a double off the wall.
Future star
I`m not much of a gambling man but on March 12th the odds of Jackson Merrill being ROY were 45 to 1. So I put $10 on Jackson. When I checked on March 19th, the odds had dropped to 7 to 1. Go Merrill, great chance for Rookie of Year!
itll prob be 1 of 2 Jacksons
Jackson Chourio?

If Merrill can hit .300 and contribute then maybe something good will happen
If opponents don't pitch to Machado. It's a long yr. .500 club.
