  • With the U.S. presidential election looming this November, NATO is trying to "Trump-proof" its aid to Ukraine, recently floating the idea of a €100 billion multi-year aid package to be agreed at the upcoming summit in Washington DC. Joining us to discuss this is Gary Tabach, former Chief of Staff at the NATO Military Liaison Mission in Moscow.

Good insight presented by the guest about possible solutions and outcomes concerning UA. True intentions of UA allies is the key point.

What's the meaning of "Trump proof"?

It's right to say that NATO structure limits European power to assist Ukraine and that it needs to be transformed from its current role as a tool for unreliable US foreign policy.

Gary Tabach, of course Trump isn't president of US yet, but it was one of hot issues in first debate stage a few days ago. So why you were a little laughing such as mock Trump. Trump's better than you, Gary Tabach. Trump was president of US, meanwhile you're only guest host of TVP World with no glossary at all

I'm with Trump. Why should we the United States foot almost all the military aid. Europe should be footing the brunt of financial support. If your not paying your share then you shouldn't be supported by NATO

I partially agree with you. Obviously, Europe must do their part in financing NATO, as well as strengthening their individual defense capabilities. Trump did spur some NATO member countries to start increasing their percentage of GDP spending.
However, if the US were to pull out of the alliance, it would not only weaken NATO countries' overall defense capabilities, but weaken ours in the US as well.
Putin knows that he cannot defeat NATO's combined strength, but that is necessarily combined with the US. The most effective deterrent to Soviet/Russian aggression for the last 75 years has been NATO, with the US as a strong, reliable partner.
Putin is always looking for a weakness to exploit, which he has attempted to do in Ukraine. Seeing weak responses to his invasion of Georgia, and his initial invasion of Ukraine in 2014, he thought the "west" would do nothing substantial when he fully invaded in Feb. 2022. The bully in the neighborhood needs to clearly understand that we will vigorously defend our interests and our way of life. And be sure, China and other dictatorships around the world are watching intently. They should have no doubt that we really do mean what we say.
