This Is Why You Shouldn't Use a BOV On A Stock WRX/STI

- I see this come up a lot and because I had the parts in the garage I wanted to actually show everyone what happens when you use a BOV on a Car that is utilizing a MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor). The issue is that when you change from a bypass valve to blow off valve you are loosing all of the metered air that the MAF has already accounted for. As a result the car will run more rich when it is under load when the BOV Opens. The car sends too much fuel and not enough air into the engine. This can result in Fouled Plugs, Stumbling, Unburnt fuel can start to destroy your catalytic converter among other issues. Hopefully this helps to show the potential issues with installing a BOV. Now I can't stop you from doing so and if you have to have the sound that I would suggest you get a hybrid BOV that still recirculates some of the air back into the system.

I just installed the AEM chargepipe today and realized at the end that those suckers didn't include the recirculation hoses as the AEM relocates the BPV on top of the engine...same situation...car runs way rich with CEL P0170, car stalls when coming to a stop...smell of rotten eggs...waiting on delivery of the hose...thank for the video this clears things up...i swear you da best! And the only youtuber I came across that responds the same day lol....Bless you bro
Hopefully you get it taken care of my man! Small problems will always be the issue 😖
This is a common myth. The system is dependent on 1) the TPS signal, and 2) the BOV itself.
Modern fuel injection system do a fuel-cut on decel to 1) save gas, and 2) alow the revs to drop faster; the fuel-cut decel should override any fuel delivery (issues).
If the TPS is slightly off, it'll keep shooting fuel on decel - this is how you get the popping on decel or in between shift.
If the BOV doesn't seal fully (which it sounds like this is the case in this video), you get an intake vacuum leak - what were the vacuum #'s before and after the BOV install? Was it the same?
I've seen plenty of BOV's that leak on WRX's / STI's...
Making a BOV that 100% seals at idle makes it more expensive to produce.
If the BOV is sealed 100%, the system is closed, and your idle should be identical to before - the fact that you're running rich means something else has changed.
This is why some people have no issues, and why some people do have issues.
Jesus christ ur good
You are 100% right a bov shouldnt affect idle unless its leaking
I was gonna say I bought my 19 wrx used that came with an HKS BOV and it’s closed system, i didn’t think it had a MAP for it installed already but I don’t have any idle issues what so ever since purchase. Seems to be working A OK. Still need to get an AP for her but other than that no issues still 🤞🏻🤞🏻
I'm not that sure.
I have a Suzuki Swift Sport ZC33S (from 2018), and I installed recently (a month) the HKS SQV IV valve and I'm experiencing some of the symptoms that he says.
Today I'll mount the recirculating tube, to see if that mitigates the lagginess and stuttering in very low revs, like when I'm in the middle of heavy traffic.
Saddily I'll lose the high pitch sound, but in the long run I prefer to not to damage the engine.
Or they don't block the recirc hose that goes to the intake after MAF
Hey man, there is no way that it would make a difference running that low RPM, The BOV only opens up to let the air out when the boost pressure is above 0 (Hence the BOV sound). Anything below 0, you should not even notice the difference because it's a closed system... So with all do respect, what you are saying does not make sense. If its open below 0, that would indicate a boost leak.
especially when running something like the GFB TMS Hybrid. Zero chance you’re gonna mess up the closed loop system if you’re setting the spring tension correctly. That’s literally it.
Good reply, the poster never replied to this because you mention facts.
Let me know when you start making videos so I can follow you instead. Your comment is common sense, literally entering the chat.

I blew up my 2011 wrx because i added a bov on my cobb OTS map. ran lean and threw a rod
Jokes on you I don’t have cats
Read this as I was thinking it🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

What do you mean are the bov better for catless

Hey Tanna, it's UK Subie guy. Waw, it's been a long time from this video, & You buying my dream car for the next chapter of the channel. I really like seeing the influence you give out in every video, no matter how hard the next part instal/removal. There are so many Great car covered ytube channels adopting your style & weeding out the fake weekend mechanic. Gracias mi amigo 🇬🇧🤘🤘🤘🤘
Always appreciate the support my friend ❤️
Now that you mentioned it, you gotta make a video explaining speed density
Thats difficult, ill see what I can do to make it easily understandable 🔥
MAF measures the mass of air that enters the engine. Speed density calculates the amount of air that goes in the engine by measuring pressure, manifold air temp and rpm. You must use a float valve style BOV that does not stay open under vacuum. If so you simply need to change one number in the tune. His engine is actualy over correcting for running lean because its sucking in air at the BOV.
I did a ton of reading about speed density vs maf tuning for my lt1 corvette motor. Same concept different platform. I’ll see if I can find the link, it’s a ton of relevant information to the topic
See, its a missconception. You can use a twin piston/diaphragm type atmospheric bov on maf setups and they work as perfect as they do with the recirc valve.
If you were car guys youd know this...
Ive run a loud bov on every turbo car ive had and all being maf setup.
Do some research and stop talking shit.
@@Smeedia What about a HKS Super SQV4 Blow Off Valve would still need a full speed density tune?
Hello again! Thanks for the information in this video. I finally got my COBB titanium exhaust with j pipe, intake, and access port for my 2019 STi. Super excited to install this weekend. Thanks for all your videos. Next will be AOS... crazy install for that.
Promise the AOS is not as bad as people make it out to be
I was told that having the j pipe I might need to add a boost control. Said sometimes with the j pipe the boost in 3 and 4th pulls can be too much. So might have to get that installed as well.
Another great video you could do is a very detailed video on how to properly jack up your 2015-2020 Subaru STi. Show all jacking points and where to place jack stands. No one really has a good video for this and some are too short. Just an idea.
Yes I can add that into or make a video on it 😁
What are your thoughts on the HKS blow off valve with the recirculating kit to make it a bypass valve?
Yo! Thank you bro! I am new to owning a wrx sti (2021) and I have relied on you to learn more! This is fantastic for people like me learning!
Glad I can help! Congrats on the car as well!
@@Smeedia Thanks man appreciate it!!
Great Video! A few years ago I purchased a RFL blow off valve, had it installed with the idea it was a plug and play, I was so wrong. No matter how many washers, ( how it said to adjust ) caused the car to stall at every stop, and turn the tail of my car black from running too rich. To make a long story short, it’s back in the box and sitting in my trunk. I wish I saw your video 3 years ago!
Glad that you got it sorted out, and some cars react different than others from what I've seen most think that BKVs are plug and play but so much more to them than one thinks. Appreciate the added sorry and kind words!
hey men i just got a question, im planning on buying DOWNPIPE with catalytic, air intake and a blowoff valve for my sti 2019, and does all of this can just be re map with Cobb accessport v3? or does this build need to be dyno tune?
So, my 2020 WRX is still stock. I intend to get an accessport or protune after getting the Cobb Big SF intake, EGR/TGV delete as well as an AOS. I know the car comes stock with a BPV and I would love to get a BOV. I’ve heard mixed things between this or an aftermarket BPV as turbo flutter and compression surge are not good for the car. Which do you recommend that would least likely compromise the lifespan of the car? Also, do I need an aftermarket FMIC or do I have to changing any piping before switching to an aftermarket BOV or BPV?
I have a 2004 wrx and put the hks bov on and now the engine is throwing engine rich code and cylinder 1,2, and 4 misfire i put the bypass valve back on. how do i know if the damage was made or will the codes go away after awhile?
your short trim/ long trim numbers will go crazy. When I had mine vent to atmosphere. When I let off the gas, it does -25 percent for like 1-2 seconds. Btw keep up the good content.
Appreciate the added input! Appreciate the support and much more to come 🔥
This actually helped me a TON. Since buying my car it has not had the recirc hose and it has never idled right. Heading out to a place tomorrow to pick one up and see how it runs! Appreciate you!
Should help with the idea issue a lot 😁 glad the video helped!
Idk man, I know science is science but I’ve owned 3 Subaru’s, rocked a BOV and OTS tune on all 3, put easily 75k+ miles on all 3, and had 0 issues related to the BOV. All cars were tested and healthy at time of sale. Maybe I’m just the lucky statistic 3 times over. Nice video and very informative though, keep up the good work
Justin Geier same loool
I've seen some cars respond different using OTS Tunes, if you have a higher quality valve it would mitigate out some of the leaking issues that other valves have had.
Right. I just installed a fully atmospheric bov on my 2018 sti and I didnt have an of these issues that smeedia has. Maybe theres some underlying issue causing the knock in this video? I installed mine after watching and did little revs like this and not a single issue. Maybe its cause his bov spring was too loose and was by passing even the slightest bit of pressure? Maybe it's not having that long pipe on the ic piping for the stock bpv location? But I dont think that knock issue is directly because of installing a vented vs recirc valve.
@@enemen8 The car is not designed for it, doesn't mean you can't get away with it. Typically the Supreme crowd or "younger" crowd throw them on without knowing anything, go get a tune and ask for the "Can i get a dope crackle n pop tune with a touch of flames out the exhaust, bruh?"

Great video! These videos are keeping me from ripping my hair out during this quarantine
Glad that they're helping my friend!
Just curious you said "backfire" sorry I am newer to the Tuner world i'm use to carb's and "backfire" is ignition in the intake so is that what happens ? or is it "afterflare" ?
Hi so question I am getting a p0103 code I have already replaced my maf sensor when I punch it I get to about 5k rpm and it feels like my car losses power so would my next step be to replace the wiring or connectors
Is there a Cobb tune that lets you run a BOV? I’m looking to get one but there’s no videos really explaining how to tune for it just a bunch of people saying don’t do it with a stock tune but obviously there is a way to tune it
I’m running a Cobb lf recirculating bpv car feels and runs like it did while the stock one was on it do I need a tune
I just bought a side project car and its a used 2013 WRX STI Sedan Sporttech usualy they go for around 17K + I got it for 10K 1.has very small body work to do (only minor rust spots) 2. needs a new paint job 3. The car runs but dosn't run well. Coming from the dealer that I bought it from every time I hit the stop sign or light that choking issue 9:01 happened. I stalled at 3 stop signs.... Got home opened up the hood and the air circlation hose is cut and plugged... stock BOV... So I got on to watch videos on Bypass valves and blow out valves and I want to say thank you! Easy fix just need to get another hose!
Thanks for the info @Smeedia
See great information about everything. I'm new to the channel and I'm really impressed with the knowledge but I'm impressed about everyone in the Subaru community doing these videos on our beautiful platform. Keep up the good work brother. Stay safe and have a good week.
Hey, I am currently running intake, catted dp,ebcs, and plan on getting some headers along with hks bov, would I be able to run this bov safely with a speed density tune
waiting for that fp blue install video !!! i have mines in the box waiting to be installed :) awesome channel keep up the great content tanner!
Jealous I'm impatient and want to have mine 😅 should have it in a few days. Appreciate the support and feedback!
Just replaced my FP blue with a dom 2.5 xtr, similar but seems to spool louder and "hit" a little bit harder. Only replaced because mine had a hairline crack that made the car smell like burnt oil. The FP blue looked and felt like a stock turbo which is why I liked it.
Excited to get mine, it will be. A kce bump over the VF48, I was eye balling the 2.5 XTR for a while
I'm running a cobb stage 1+ tune on my 21wrx ,could I possibly put a hks bov on if it's recirculating?
I like how he "smelt fuel" when afrs were stoich
"I'm scared because the rpms are dropping low" probably because the ecu is trying to re learn everything. What exhaust is that? Kinda sounds like dookie
Would adding the recirculation adapter hks offers with the super sqv eliminate issues of having a BOV making it essentially a BPV? or would there still be problems compared to having the stock bpv?
It would help to eliminate the issues, it's sending the air back I to the system so its still accounted for
So I'm curious, would the HKS sqv4 with the recirculation kit be comparable to a BPV in function?
Yes, it turns the bov into a bpv.
How urgent is it that I get it professionally tuned right now I’m running a stage 2 + BIg SF 93 ots I have cold air intake, MA performance J pipe, nameless catback exhaust system
I have a 2004 sti with forged internals and a flex fuel systems( along with all the other supporting mods) the car is basically fbo besides turbo and headers. And I was wanting a turbo that could get me to around 400whp on 93 and 430whp+ on ethanol. I was wondering if the fp blue could support that on a front mount or even a top mount
Advertised the FP Blue said it was capable of around 475WHP should he capable of hitting your goals!
I just got a 2011 wrx and now I’m torn on what to do to the bpv that won’t make it less reliable:/
What about blocking the BPV so the turbo flutters on a stock or tuned car?
I got a 16 sti with the same hks bov and when I rev it the car wants to stall out and I failed nj inspection cuz the evap and oxygen sensor wasn’t ready
Quick question and note, if I get a GFB Hybrid BOV would I need to get a pro tune to run it with the BOV? The GFB is a hybrid between BPV and BOV and you can change it from BPV to BOV by twisting the head of the unit, you can also run it 50/50. Any ideas on this?
Won't need a tune with 100% recirculation. You'll get little noise, but not worth causing issues to the engine for big 'Psh' noises. I'm getting the GFB Hybrid Bov for my 04 Wrx Wagon, it's Stock except Turboback exhaust (which was tuned for) and STI Downpipe. Once I get it I'll share my experience.
Watched your vids... Amazing... Got a 2019 wrx stock, i did put the gfb bov and have it at full recurc. I feel the car jerky at times. Should i go back to stock bpv or upgrade to aftermarket bpv and take the loss. 😬
just installed my hks on my stock wrx today. Keep the videos coming bro
Just make sure to monitor fuel trims and set slring pressure on the BOV to help prevent it from leaking!
What about a HKS Super SQV4 Blow Off Valve would still need a full speed density tune?
What's the best spark plugs to run for a stage 2 pro tune
Thanks for clarification! This is my first Subie, and I have often wondered what would happen if you put a blow off valve on a stock car. As soon as you turned the ignition on I could tell she wasn’t happy at all lol. Thanks for everything you do for the channel!
So when can you get a BOV? What supporting parts do you get?
If you put an aftermarket bypass valve on a stock STI would you hear any noises?
I have an fully recirculating hks bov paired with a cobb big sf intake. E-tuned by William Knose at Delicious Tuning by the way. In my opinion, this is the way to go if you want those spooly boy noises. The stock airbox muffles alot, so you can certainly hear the bov noises through an upgraded intake. Side note, my hks bov is a 13 year old original version from 2007, that was still brand new in the box that I never used for a prelude build I never finished before joining the Marines.
Thats a good find to be able to reuse! And the intake really helps to bring out a lot of those noises as you said 🔥
@@Smeedia Is the BOV different when the car has MAP rather then a MAF? 2018 Hyundai Elantra Sport to be exact. thanks
@@perziano6134MAP and MAF are not interchangeable unfortunately
Hey bro i just got a ‘19 wrx and in a nutshell ..... don’t run a blow off valve stock ? And you said if you do , to get a tune? But I thought the Cobb AP was for that ? And if I don’t get a blow off valve what can I run that’s healthier for the motor? Is the hybrid valve better ? Sorry for buggin, I came from a static 96’ LS400 so I’m in a whole new world now with a Subaru lol
So if you get it tuned for the bov it is alright?
so tldr if u want bfbfbfb stututu comfortably you just have to tune for it?
What do i need to do in order to install a bov if i was to really want one
@Smeedia thanks this was really helpful!
Also you said that the extra fuel would get into your oil as it ran down the cylinder wall. You would have to be running insanely rich to have left over liquid fuel in your combustion’s chamber(like 5:1 gasoline). Also your wideband afr gauge on the right side of your steering wheel was reading anywhere from 14.5-15.1. Not rich at all as the stoichiometric air fuel ratio of gasoline is 14.7:1
Do I need a tune if I went with a Perrin Recirculation valve? Engine, intake and turbo are all stock
No you don't 🙏
is it fine to use bov with maf if its tuned on it
Question? I have a 16 wrx and just had invidia R400 installed. Is it OK to install bov ? If so, would it be safe to go with turbosmart hybrid bov? I don't have an accessport.
No, a BOV should only be used with a speed density tune. Highly auggest using a bypass valve
Gave the video a thumbs up before it started because I KNEW it was gonna be good!
Eyyyy, appreciate the support 🔥🙌😁
Nice video bro
What if I'm running both SD and MAF running BOV should be good with pro tune? 400whp
I have the perrin recirculator bov is this bad to run this on a stage1+ Cobb tune? The previous owner had it on there just wondering if I should take it out and swap it with the oem one?
You should be fine, theyre both recir valves so won't make a difference 🔥😁
Made it to the tuner today! Hopefully I'll get it back this week 😬😬😬
Its been down for 2 months, it was so nice driving it again... even though I had to take it super easy Iol
Mine will be down for a month before getting to drive it again 😫 hopefully all goes well with the tuner!
Great work and super informative video. Do you think is possible to run a Go Fast Bits GFB for on my 2019 STI. TMS Respons Blow Off Valve BOV Kit
I've used the GFB before and it worked but it leaked also if your wanting to run one with a noise, I would get a 50/50 at minimum to send some air back into the intake track
How would it work with a turbo smart adjustable with about 50/50 bpv bov. Otherwise stock no tune?
It may stumble at times id still suggest a full BOV but you should be okay
i am a brand new owner to a 2015 wrx and i got a hks ssq blow off valve and i’m wondering if i need to get a tune for it or i can just install it right away and the car is stock
I'd tune for it, wouldent run one without a tune
idk, i got one for my bugeye and my afrs didnt change at all, im on a jdm motor and ecu and everything was the same as before
So can you put a bov on an stock 03-05 wrx?
I got a question so my car (wrx 2011) was tuned with gfb bov , and now I wanna switch it back to the bpv , is it ok to just change it or need to tune lol?
What was the GFB set to when you were tuned? I know their adjustable. If it was set full open I would get a revision on the tune if it was 50/50 you should be fine
I bought my 12’ STi with a BOV already installed (and intake and exhaust) and a protune. Seems to run great, anything else I should look out for or be worried about? Knock monitoring is all within normal limits. I’m straight ricer and dig the noises. If it’s okay, I think I’ll keep it. Will have tuner check out car just to be safe. What do you think? It’s just tough cuz there’s so much polarity in this topic… hard to get a straight answer
If it’s running great than fuck this guy 😂 listen to your car don’t listen to this twit spreading misinformation lmao
What if you just put a block-off plate at the BPV? Except stalling the turbo compressor (and getting a nice stu tu tu sound), will there be any rich/lean conditions?
This will decrease the life of your turbo and will increase lag. I would get a blowoff valve that has both recirculating and atmospheric release. You will still get the Pshhh and it won’t mess anything up as long as it is set to 50/50.
I got my 15 STi with a turbo smart adjustable bov set to 50/50 recirc & atmospheric
It came with 150,000kms, do you think it would of had to be tuned for the bov to get that kind of mileage?
I can’t get in contact with the previous owner and the place I got it from said it was tuned but I honestly just think they were saying what they think I wanted to hear because I haven’t got any receipts for it.
I get a few pops but only when I really floor it then change gear, other than that I can make the exhaust pop on command every-time I rev match when down shifting but I assumed that’s because I got an axle back muffler delete
I would probably get it in for a tune, just running that BPV/BOV alone won't cause any major harm. But to run optimally I would suggest tuning if you done have any evidence showing thr car had one prior
@@Smeedia okay I’ll be doing that soon then, thank you!, last question I have is would you say 120,000 miles is too high to get tuned?
I’m at 119,000 now
Nope, getting mine tuned here soon with 132K on it 🙌
Sounds like the good ole Marysville train. I don't miss that.
Thanks for this vid, was looking at a super nice 04 wrx wagon with 0 rust but it's running a BOV and OTS tune so I guess I'm skipping that buy.
Hey wanted to howd you get two separate pipings for the intercooler ??
ETS sells them for your BPV/BOV set up 😁
So I'm new to cars period. I just ordered a 2021 WRX Limited and I want to learn all the things. I took a quick course they offered on post to learn basic engines, watch some videos to learn about the turbo, boxer, direct injection, etc. My understanding of all this is very very basic. If I'm watching this saying, math based car? Speed density? Blow off valve? Charge piping? Where can I start to learn about all these things? I got a little overwhelmed when I tried starting with nasoic. Long road ahead but I want to know. BTW I'm a nurse so I'm literally starting from the ground up. Thanks!!
So how can u get a bov then u need a intake sry Ik new to cars getting a 2022 wrx in July this year
Thanks for the video because I was about to buy it… Whig kind of dumbvalve I should buy for a stock WRX 2006? Thank you man 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
i do wonder is 50/50 bov will keep the richness in check?
Hi. Im about to get an AP. Only got cat back exhaust and a aftermarket airfilter for stock airbox. Only goin on stage 1 cobb ots map. Planning to get a boomba bpv. Would that be bad for stock?
Nopw, that should work just fine 😁😁😁
So you recommend a tune with the bov? I just got a wrx but I want my car to live long and not run any problems. I want a healthy tune and build.
I'd suggest at minimum an Etune so the ecu had somewhat of an idea for what is going on
Can you put Both a BPV and a BOV then get it tuned . Would it run good with both of them on there .
I mean you could, but no reason why you should 😅
Can you run a boomba bypass valve on a stock 2021 wrx without a tune?
Yes you can
You say wrx/sti, but i have a 05 legacy gt and the car already stutters when I shift from 1 to 2 or 2 to 3 and sometimes when I downshift. So what do you recommend I do because i’d like the bov noises and I thought about getting an adjustable one. I would like some input to see what you or anyone has to say.
If you really want the noises I would say get a 50/50 at least some of the air gets pushed back into the system and will help the stuttering like my engine did. If you want a full BOV I would consult your tuner to see how they would approach going that route.
Would the Speed Density Tune fix that idle problem? And with that tune would you be able to run the atmospheric SSIV BOV safely? Thanks in advance!
Yes, because it is using Absolutr manifold pressure to read the air rather than a sensor in thr intake post Throttle body
Smeedia nice thanks! Waiting for my extended warranty to end so I can slap it on 😴
Hey! I've been getting lots of FKL/FBK under steady throttle at low rpms (2500-3500) after my usual 5W-30 oil change. I went from Castrol Edge to Motul 8100 Clean+ then BACK to Castrol Edge after seeing the results but still, it's always like 1.4 - 2.8 on 2nd - 4th gear. If I drive it harder it seems to go away. It's only if I “lug” the engine from those lower rpms it kicks in... Is this behavior normal for fresher oil?
PLEASE HELP it's a brand new HMS motor with 5K miles
I'm assuming that your protuned?
FBK and FKL are normal things to happen, however if you are protuned I would get some data logs to shoot back over to your tuner to get a more clear picture of what all is going on
@@Smeedia yea it's ProTuned. I bought my accessport along with my dyno so it's the first time monitoring the car in this regard. I feel like it's only there to add more stress to my EJ daily life 😤
They do call them anxiety poets for a reason 😅
Interesting Vid... i was running the same BOV on my 06 STI, didn't tune it... ran it for a month then took it off... on that day that i replaced the recirculating stock unit i blew a piston. Do you think it could have had something to do with the BOV? Also, i see that you have the same STI oil cap on both STI's... does it do anything special? What are plans for the stock turbo that you're taking off? Another weird thing is happening with my rebuilt STI, i was braking in the new pistons so i wasn't taking the revs more than 3k, now that i go over 3k it seems like the car is starving of fuel where it almost feels like its going to shut off, then it comes back at around the 4k mark, but it keeps feeling like its going to shut off intermittently gradually as i accelerate...issue starts around 3rd gear... on the other hand, fuel to mileage ratio has never been better?!? i'm thinking it may either be the fuel pump or injectors i also have a grimspeed fuel management solenoid, when i bought it, it came with an exhaust which i changed back to stock once i rebuild it, never have i run it with the aftermarket exhaust before the rebuild, nor have i run it with the stock exhaust before the rebuild - could i be that the previous owner tuned it to the other exhaust?? Hoping to hear your thoughts.
Sorry for all the questions... haha. have a good day, mate.
No worries and it's possible, the ECU may have relearned after the install of thr BOV creating either too lean or too rich of conditions that could have been afreibuted to the issue.
The oil cap is honestly just for decor lol 🙏
If there is no adjustment made to the tune the fuleing issue could be related, hard to tell without actually seeing the car 😖
Would you recommend running a hks bov if you are going to get a pro tune?
If you want one, I would always suggest a BPV. But if your getting a protune and want one now is tbr time to do so
Good video, thx for the experiment. Curious if you can expand upon the comment that the FP Blue safer for engine? Just in terms of not as much boost or something else? Look forward to the videos and stay safe!!
Will be putting less stress on the turbo, the VF48 would be getting a lot of stress due to the higher HP I will.be shooting for, safer meaning the FP blue will not have to work as hard as the VF48 just reliving some stress off of the car 😁
Can you disconnect BOV and not use it?
Well, I have seeing some stock STI graph and everything time you switch gears and go WOT the car is really lean abs then starts running rich as you get in the rpm. Maybe a VOB might not be that bad on a stock tune as you dump some of that air that would have made the initial WOT lean. I don’t know just my two cents
I got a 2021 STI . It’s possible to use a Boomba BPV on my stock engine?
Yes you can use a BPV, won't cause any issues 🙏
I have a GFB bov but I believe it set up to recycle back like a bypass valve and it has the tube. It was on the sti before I bought it
So I actually did exactly this. I installed the HKS BOV for a day and then I just put back the Cobb BPV. However, the rough idle happens now and again... does it take the ECU a bit to read normal idle again?
The ECU will have to re learn once you swap the valves, you can either reset ECU learning or you can drive the car around as normal for a bit to get the ECU to relearn
Hey man, am I ok to run a tial q on hybrid speed density / maf with a protune?
Yes you are good 🙏
Hi brother, im fan of this page. I have some questions regarding BOV n BPV. I don't have any tuners in my country who can tune my engine for BOV. can you suggest me something that doesnt need a tune and will make BOV noises. I have tried HKS SSQV4 but my engine starts showing mood swings :p
Suggest me something please which won't require any tune. My setup is from 2005 ej20y JDM legacy gt.
Thanks
Love and respect from Bangladesh
Why would smell change with a bov install while idling. 🤔
what kind of bolt did you use to block off the iat sensor on the intercooler piping?
It came with one 🙏
@@Smeedia mine didnt come with one 😩 i wonder what size is the plug ?
I think it's 3/8 NPT 🙏
Is that brass fitting a drain line for your AOS?? Remember we talked about that recently.. I got a few cheap amazon catch cans I’m going to test out. Trying to keep the comp AOS on, and not allow the schmoo from going back into my crankcase . Thanks Tanner!
The brass line is the oil pressure sensor relocation kit 😅 need to clean it up when we get going in the engine bay lol let me know how the set up works!
Tanner, I bought the hoses to reconnect my filler tank from Subaru, and I’m removing my AOS. My oil is just not lasting long enough running flex fuel. I ordered the radium dual catch can kit, and am going to utilize the intake to pull a vacuum. The oil return line on my AOS, sure didn’t look like fresh oil.. total schmoo yellow goo. Some people said to me it’s normal, and will be burned off.. but I’m gonna try the closed ccv setup with the radium cans.
Let me know how you like it compared to the AOS
Question , for example you get a BOV that is recirculating like the (HKS Recirculating BOV) would you still have the same problem ?
No you would not 🤙
@@Smeedia SICK!! I was thinking of getting it but was worried that it will hurt my engine
Is a go fast bit response blow off valve bad? I have it about 25% open
But I wanna hear what u gotta day
Supposedly it’s a recirculating bov
Should I have it closed all the way?
Ideally yes it should be closed. I used one a few years ago and had it about 30% open and never had an issue. You should be okay
Been running my bov for 18 months on 380 HP wrx. No issues at all.. I stay up on maintenance, and plugs look normal. I recommend getting one if you want.
Did you get produced with it on the car? The major issue of it is using a BOV on a Stock car or one with an OTS Map which already have their own issues with them.
@@Smeedia it was the first mod I put on my car and I ran it for over a year before getting a protune.
So in my understanding here, it is much better to use BVP booba?
Yessir the boomba one is a great one to use as well
hey man so I've seen some people with older model Subarus make block off plates for the BPV/BOV to create compressor surge, just wondering if you have any insight into this and weather you would say its okay or if you would say don't do it, pros and cons?
It will put more wear on the tubo and mess with your AFRs, the older subarus are pretty forgiving if its something you want to do then you can but aside from the sound there are really no pros to it
@@Smeedia I have a 2017 wrx, would you say its just more beneficial in the long run to just keep everything "stock" and what I mean is just run a bpv and intake? I have the boomba bpv and had the Cobb intake at one time but took it off and sold it regrettably because I thought It was causing my CEL. turned out to be my studs from the j pipe to the turbo outlet had snapped and caused a leak causing the cel. but thanks for the insight and I will definitely make sure not to hurt the car. was just curious and seen it done but hadn't seen anything about the FA20 motors.
Question here….will i pass smog emissions test in California if i put catted downpipe on my Sti? Thanks
If it is a CARB legal downpipe yes you will
@@Smeedia any suggestion on brand or model downpipe for my 2021 STi? the carb legal one.....thanks by the way for answering your viewers questions, you always take the time. wishing you more success on youtube, watching your channel made me decide and buy STi! youre gonna do great things!
Hi man. Ive got a block off plate for my stock bypass valve on my 08 hatchback. So it makes turbo flutter, compressor surge whatever you want to call it. My car seems to idle and drive completely fine although I dont have an Accessport so i cant monitor knock etc. I know its running slightly more rich due to the few extra pops on downshifts but apart from that it seems to drive fine. Any reccomendations? I know I should probably take it off but that stustustu is addicting.
From a performance standpoint I would remove it, but if you want it and you haven't had issues, its you can so if you like it keep it going.
@@Smeedia Good video idea maybe? Hahahaha. Just a metal plate you put behind the recirc valve between the valve and the intercooler. I'll keep it out for now and see if I notice any differences, thanks man.
Good god that train. 😂 You have been educating me sooo much about Subarus. Gonna lease one soon. At least i know what to do and not do. I feel like more people who are into BOV need to know this or those who are going from a BPV to BOV. To each its own right? Great content.
Exactly, people are totally free to so as the please with their mods, but agreed I at least want people to be aware of the potential issues of using one. And glad the videos are helping my friend!
