I have a GFB Decepter Pro 2, with a module I can use to open and close the valve from in the cabin. Basically for the sound and the novelty. Thanks for the video, just got a 17 sti, previous owner had a HKS BOV with the stock maf, and ive noticed my AFR dipped to 11 when i shift normal no boost or nothin, or if i put it into neutral it dips to 11 then to 20, also on pulls shifting it not smooth at all. And sometimes the car dies and rpm drop down to 500. So just ordered a Boomba BPV so should fix my problems.
My 2006 Forester XT has the stock BPV but it produces a loud enough 'Psh sh sh sh sh sh' to make people out walking turn around, I think parts of the intake have been removed by a previous owner and it has a cold air filter inside the front of the wheel arch.
Silly Question, but is there a reason why you show you run the COBB BPV, but don't have it under your 'recommended' BPV's here? Personally, I use COBB parts when I can (AoS/EBC/Airbox/etc), so am hoping that there isn't an issue with using that.

@@Smeedia Awesome! One more question? I drive a 2016 WRX. My tuner recommended a ETS FMIC, will that cause any lag/throttle repose issues compare to a TMIC?
@@antoniocarrion340i7 Not as much as you would think, the WRX uses a lot shorter piping compared to the STI. My STI is still on stock turbo with an ETS FMIC and the lag is very minimal. You shouldn't have any issues with lag. The decreased IAT temps you will see will benefit the car enormously.
Hey got a question? You seem to know alot about the WRX sti. I have the 2017 wrx sti with a cobb downpipe an cobb exhuast. I want an intake talked to cobb about it. I was un clear after talking to them if I just need injectors or if I need more than injectors. I know they lean out with a intake an downpipe. What all would you do? To make the car reliable ? Do I need a fuel regulator, fuel pump, the y set up in fuel line or is the injectors all I need. Sorry tried to keep it short any info would be great appreciate it. Great video keep them going
I had this exact issue back in August, to be able to run the intake, doenpipe combo your going to need Injectors, fuel pump and a fuel pressure regulator. I spoke with the tuner at surgline about this and he said that they 15+ have been making more power than previous generations so when doing the intake and downpipe combo we max out the factory injectors. Before I knew this I was running the intake and downpipe on an OTS Map and the car was very lean and would throw codes for lean fuel efficiency. After the fuel components the car becomes very reliable.
@@Smeedia awesome appreciate the info. Think I'll get the AEM fuel pump an cobb regulator. Did you get the dynamics 1050x injectors ? Or do they sell a different brand. An after the install of everything did you get a protune or run a tune from cobb accessport. I know they were saying you could run a stage 2 downpipe tune without intake. But with intake downpipe injectors fuel pump regulator I'd say it's time for a protune at that point right ?
@@Aciecarter238 I got a protune through surgline tuning. I run the cobb 1050CC Injectors but they're the same ad the ID1050s just re branded. I have the cobb FPR and the DW300C fuel Pump. They make a stage "3" OTS map but I would strongly advise getting a protune
Thinking about putting an Atmospheric BOV on a stage 1 protune. Car is completely stock except axlebacks and high flow air filter. Would the car read that there isn't air recirculating and keep the air fuel ratio the same; therefore, not having an issue with it running rich?
Not entirely sure what you mean by internal or external BOV. BOVs will push the air to the atmosphere (external) and bypass valves will vent back into the intake track (Internal). I always suggest a Bypass valve over a Blow off Valve if your a MAF car. But if your speed density I would go with a BOV since the MAF No longer reads the incoming Air.
@@jerow7204 are you referring to an internal.or external Waste gate? That's going to depend on the Tuebo your running, but if you wanted to go external waste gate I would do a trial 38mm with grimmspeed up pipe for a stock turbo car, size will increase on the EWG depending on what turbo you go with
Depends on the set up honestly, on a stock car it wont do much but make the car run funny unless tuned with a block off plate on it, but it would have some of the sounds. Theoretically it would reduce turbo spool time, when the air cuts back through the turbo it slows the turbine wheel down so it would need to get that speed back which would increase your spool time.
@@Kilrathal Good thing turbo flutter does not cause any extra lag because it doesn't slow the turbo down and in fact helps with it as boost pressure is not being released.

Cool I'm thinking of getting one soon
They make a stage "3" OTS map but I would strongly advise getting a protune
do u have to retune when u put a cobb bypass valve?
No you do not 🙏
@@Smeedia thx u 4 responing im new to the world of subaru waiting on my STI 2020... PICKING IT UP 10/23/2020
Eyyyy congrats on the new car!!
what about the hks blow off valve with the recirculation kit?
So…say if I have a 18’ STI with just a cat back and a K&N air filter. Can I just get a tune made for the BOV?
You can but I wouldent say it's worth it
@@Smeedia I did purchase the Boomba BPV. I’ve heard it’s a better option if I don’t want to run the BOV tune cost.
So you dont get that sound at all with a BPV?
Can I loose power or have problems if I disconnect the return hose on the intake from my BOV? I have a KW turbocharger
Can I run a bpv and bov in conjunction or would that cause issues?
Video is solid help us learn something
Appreciate the feedback 🙌😁
What if you run a BOV and have a Cobb AP. Can you account for the loss of recirculating air and have a good fuel to air?
Or have a intake?
How do I know if I'm "on maf still" buying a car with cold air intake, front mount intercooler and hks blow off
Thinking about putting an Atmospheric BOV on a stage 1 protune. Car is completely stock except axlebacks and high flow air filter. Would the car read that there isn't air recirculating and keep the air fuel ratio the same; therefore, not having an issue with it running rich?
A fellow Washingtonian Subaru owner, nice. Not sure why I'm that surprised though. lol.
Haha 👋👋👋
For the gfb did you leave the gasket on? I've seen alot of people stating your supposed to take the gasket off bc it'll cause a leak
my stock 2017 Forester XT has a good wooshy noise. was curious to learn more about how the turbo works. very interesting video.
How do you get the turbo flutter sound on the sti? I have a gfb bov installed but just making a whistle sound not a turbo flutter sound.
Do you recommend a internal or external bov?
Not entirely sure what you mean by internal or external BOV. BOVs will push the air to the atmosphere (external) and bypass valves will vent back into the intake track (Internal).
I always suggest a Bypass valve over a Blow off Valve if your a MAF car. But if your speed density I would go with a BOV since the MAF No longer reads the incoming Air.
@@Smeedia A bov on the exhaust or a bov on the intake
@@jerow7204 are you referring to an internal.or external Waste gate? That's going to depend on the Tuebo your running, but if you wanted to go external waste gate I would do a trial 38mm with grimmspeed up pipe for a stock turbo car, size will increase on the EWG depending on what turbo you go with
Does block off plate affect the power or Reliability or it doesn’t do anything expect the awesome nosies???
Depends on the set up honestly, on a stock car it wont do much but make the car run funny unless tuned with a block off plate on it, but it would have some of the sounds. Theoretically it would reduce turbo spool time, when the air cuts back through the turbo it slows the turbine wheel down so it would need to get that speed back which would increase your spool time.
Smeedia thanks for the info
It will affect gear changes massively. Imagine the turbo lag you get when you floor it from say 2000, but in every single gear change at WOT
@@Kilrathal Good thing turbo flutter does not cause any extra lag because it doesn't slow the turbo down and in fact helps with it as boost pressure is not being released.
I Have a Cobb intake I have that sound when I get on boost sounds good with my oem bpv
I have cobb intake as well stock bpv. It sounds like a bov anyway lol.
Can I switch a blow out valve out with a bpv without getting another tune?
You should be fine 🤙
I have black above my tailpipes. Is that a sign of running rich. On and off i get a quick break up low rpm inbetween shifts,
What does the diverter valve do
Essentially the same as a BPV just divertes the air from the charge pipe into the intake track when the throttle body closes
Hey man is that a voltex spoiler what did ya pay for it im gonna get one here soon
Can I instal them together?!
2019 wrx going from the stock bpv to a cobb LF bpv full recirculation does that require a tune?
No sir, full recirc your good 😁
Does the bypass valve need a tune?
A replacement bypass valve does not
Which one is the best sir bov or bvp?
Unless your shooting for a lot of power a BPV
Thank you sir🙂
