@Iskelderon is that a pro or a contra argument to Station wagons? 😄 Trailer hitches are a common feature in Europe and people who occasionally carry wood and stuff have little trailers that do the same job as truck beds

I’ll be watching for updates on this one. I was lucky enough to score a free e46 wagon a few years back and through leftovers from other builds installed ZHP suspension front and rear and swapped from auto AWD to manual RWD. Eventually would like to swap in an S54. One of these days.

@Charlie-jp6mx same stylish looks as the sedan with all the practicality of a hatch, I'm not a huge BMW guy, but I do love most wagons in general so this is 1000% bias
As a California E30 325i Touring owner, who went through the BAR certification process, I suggest you do your engine swap prior to certification if that's the plan. You don't want to spend a small fortune on all the testing, locked in as an M52B20, and then have to go through the process all over again after swapping something else in.
Nice buy! Reason there is no oil in the engine, it's a prerequisite that all vehicles and engines are drained of their oil for exporting. I'm looking at a V8 engine from Italy and my freight forwarding company said all the oil needs to be drained out. Cheers 🇦🇺🇮🇹
I have always been a petrol head and all my previous BMW’s were petrol engines until last couple of years when I deliberately bought older pre-lci e91 330d M57 170kw. And you know what!? That diesel engine is amazing, super reliable, pulls like a train and great on fuel economy. The M57 is the best 6cyl diesel engine no doubt and I love it as much as I love touring BMW’s. I also love Khalils e36 touring I wish him all the best with this amazing BMW and yes, I am also a e36 fanatic, love these cars!🫶
Mine just arrived at the Port and should be ready to be picked up next week. I imported a 96’ 323i that I drove for about six months here in Germany and decided to send it back home.
E36 and E39 tourings are still beautiful designs. Also, as said before in the comments they are way more practical than an SUV or Pickup to the majority of people. Would love to own one but they have become really expensive. Enjoy this daily !
As a European, I love wagons, and I do love to see all these cars that take me back to the 80´s and 90´s restored/driven ... Enjoy your purchase Khalil !
My God! I'm not a wagon guy but that E36 Wagon is amazing. The profile looks so cool. I can imagine with M3 touches would make that wagon look stellar.
Great Catch German TUV cars are kept almost perfect. No Pass on Small rust. Annual Test. Inspector will rip the Rust and decide what fix needed! No-Fault.
As a german I disagree … you usually get away with rust that isnt structual. For a more clean car you have to go to switzerland. Their TUV is much more strict regarding rust.
I had a test drive in a 320 many years ago, and while not a super powerhouse engine, it was decently zippy and sounded great. The 2.8 is an obvious candidate for a swap though, and will sound glorious.
I'm an Alfa guy, but somehow ended up with an '04 manual transmission 4wd Sport Wagon. It's a solid car and surprisingly rewarding to drive. And yeah, it's hard to beat the wagon format for a good driving yet practical fun combination.

Audi and Mercedes/AMG had their owns at that moment 🤩
Glad you had a good experience. Took 14 months to get mine because of a bad seller/importer. Should have used Open Air as I’ve heard good things about them.
This is awesome! You should do something with a Mitsubishi 3000gt VR4 in the future. I promise you it is one of the best drives out there! Better than a Supra, faster than a NSX, and (in my opinion) cooler than a RX7. I picked a 1992 up for 5k, needs a little work, has 20 less horsepower then the 1994 models, but it still is soooo fun to drive!
Pretty good choice, you can still see decently maintained ones driving around in Germany since they're probably the last generation when BMW still hired designers, instead of fishing rejected shit out of competitors' dumpsters.
Love the e36. It would be cool to see an n52 swap into it over the traditional m50/s50 m52/s52 swap. They are super cheap and weigh less than an m20(n52-326lbs) and have been making around 260whp and wtq while still getting good fuel economy. They can also rev to 7500. Just a thought to do something different.
N52 would be sweet, and they are starting to be recognized more in the aftermarket. Would be nasty with a supercharged N52, although n/a would still be sweet.

E46 center consoles fit surprising well in the E36 and it gets you two cup holders that function very well. also adds that little storage compartment in the arm rest. the arm rest from the E46 directly bolts in the same exact spot in the E36. N54 swap that thing! then do I dare say mate it to a 8HP ZF!
Europeans totally get wagons, from T5 Volvo’s and Audi RS2’s to RS6’s and Mercedes AMG’s, they have been the got too practical sports rides until the SUV market took off but they are still popular… its the US that has never seen the love for the Avant/Wagon/Estate.
