I am so glad you gave me an opportunity relive, my 11'' wide load trip in '76 over the old Bridge at the bottom. Was rerouted after checking in at a DOT office in Holbrook, with the snow in Flag. Leaving AZ the officer gave me the impression that the clerk shoud not have. changed my route... May have had something to do with being on a temporary permit with AZ as a private carrier. Enjoying all the vids🖒
Same gear pattern in my concrete mixer!!good informative video on mountain driving.i have been driving up to Tahoe making concrete deliveries, all mountain driving, with cars parked on the side of the road, tourist.super nerve racking watching for someone to open a car door.Slow is the word of the day, with a train of angry 4 wheelers behind.Oh well,I can't see them from my cab!!!!i have my class b commercial,I have my permit for tractor trailer, just trying to find the time to test out, maybe winter time, then try to find a job driving tanker or something.I like videos like these because they are educational,I get to see how other guys handle different driving situations, which help me become a better driver, which helps the driving community as a whole. No one likes seeing wrecks, and no one wants to be in one!so thanks hope to see more videos!!
I have been up and down Salt river canyon 40 times or more. That newer bridge was probably put in in the mid ninties. Before that you crossed the old bridge which was to the right. There was a pucker factor when two trucks tried to cross at the same time, in fact one waited for the other to.get across.
Hey Dan that was great. I ran that route quite a bit from Farmington , Holbrook, Showlow, to Tucson. It's nice in the summer. We are all waiting to see the new truck. Safe travels from New Port Richey , Fl.
Just watched the video and was epic ride and video, I know it old video now but loved every second of it. As i'm in Alberta Canada and have never been out of Canada. This drive reminds me of driver thru rock mountains on trans Canada hiway #1, as there some steep climbs and even 7-8+ tunnels you have go thru. Do you still have this old truck Dan? Its old Pete ? you said has Cat c15 engine? would love see a updated video about her and if have done any work or plan do some work on her at some point. I've always loved the older semi like 379. I
Ive driven this road many times, its a great drive. 1st time, I puckered that seat ! After a few times, if you have a heavy load, still pucker the seat 🙂
Fine job Dan. You are very informative. I used to drive an old I-H cinder block truck. It had the old RD450 engine and a 5x4 transmission. Top speed was 48 MPH ! No power steering. It was a beast! Thanx for the ride!
I used to drive through here in my Mack. I foiled up some meat and vegetables put then under the hood to cook and enjoyed the drive. I always found that a well done steak takes about 2 hours or 150 miles, whichever comes first. Peach Cobbler on the other hand takes about 3 hours to cook completely. Just depends on how hot the motor gets to get food done. Outside temp affects cooking time as well.. You have to be careful with some foods though, as they may tend to leak all over your motor and smoke and burn.
I learn to drive at the age of 13 and it was in a old white truck with one axle , after that in a Mack with 4/5 transmission. The way you do that on the hills it’s a great job. We don’t have jake brakes back then around 1983 .
I trained for a mega carrier for 7 years. An I used the exact saying about ur speed going down a mountain. An as long as ur happy with how ur truck is working. Who cares what number gear ur in. Good driving.
My hat's off to you and all the brave truck drivers out there. I lived in the San Berdo mtns and would happily follow a truck up, especially in snow and fog. Thank you for taking us along on that beautiful ride.
I was just through there two weeks ago while they were resurfacing the road. When I go on vacation from Indiana highway construction, I head west down to Socorro and west to Phoenix or Palm Springs. That is a mighty tough stretch of highway but it's very scenic which is why you wait to make the trip through Salt River Canyon during daylight hours only. I've been through there a dozen or so times and I'm never bored.
Dear friend Dan the video this very nice of the trip by the route 60 arizona, a very nice highway in his country USA. I ask if you are loaded or empty by the speed with which it goes down and by the speed with which it climbs is impressive, His friend Pancho from Ecuador. A hug from a distance.
I am planning on driving to Az. Ppl have warned me about avoiding Salt Lake Canyon. I didn't know why, so I went to youtube University! Thanks for this because now I see why I WILL BE AVOIDING THIS ROUTE! 😂 BEAUTIFUL THO.
on I-70 west heading toward Vale, Co. i came down that mountain too fast, didn't crash, but sure smoked the brakes. after that i never smoked another brake, cause the shop wouldn't fix the brakes. i came into town in Montana, no rain, no moisture on the road, but when i stopped at a stop and go, my brakes squealed. so that taught me never to smoke my brakes.
That was a nice video STD. You did a good job explaining what was happening with the truck which really helped to make the video interesting. I never mind that Bella Dog barks. I think she makes a good watch dog for you and a companion to despite any bad habits she may have due to her instincts.
The Big Kitty sound good going up that long 6% grade! Way to go Dan and thanks for letting us ride along. I've never been up through Salt River Canyon before. Beautiful scenery thats for sure. Keep on trucking Dan👍
Very spectacular drive. I'm starting to appreciate the risk and danger of OTR. I appreciated the weight aspect but did not think of the trailer dragging over the line. How do you compensate for that?
Hi Dan great video. The traffic over there is so calm because if we had traffic behind us over here in the uk they would have cut us off and given us abuse for holding them up.
Wow, thank for the nice view and ride along.
Great video. Put that canyon on my bucket list. Very cool.

Great Vid Dan and keep them coming.
Thanks for the video. I showed it to my daughter to discourage her from driving to Show Low with her boyfriend's family. That canyon is scary!

I agree about the beast. The one I drove was a 1987 with big cam Cummins

very safe drive!!!! thank you for your service!! don't worry about other drivers when you are right.
You did the right thing when coming up on the service worker. You had double lines and NEVER cross those unless guided by an official.
