A lot of people just count this death as "Loki faking his death like always", but the saddest thing is that he didn't know he was going to survive the fall. This was a suicide attempt.
Ikr! No wonder he was so bitter in avangers 1. He already gave up on himself, on life.

To which Odin answer is : No.
Odin never meant to love loki as he love Thor. For him he's a political tool to make peace with jotunheim. Which answer you can both be king Thor king of asgard and loki of jotunheim etc...
The rest of my analysis is in another comment go look for it if you want it 😊

I feel really bad for Thor too though. Like he's literally watched Loki die so many times.
Well he's been dead before.
He'll probably be brought back when things are restored by Nebula. It's likely that he and Thor will run off to run New Asgard, Tony and Steve will die, and then Hulk and Black Widow go on to lead the next generation of heroes. (Spider-Man, Ant-Man, Scarlet Witch, Vision, etc.) It's also likely Bucky or Falcon (Depending on how PC the MCU is going to be) will replace Steve as Captain with Spider-Man being a sort of spiritual successor to Tony.
@ajdin omeragic They won't bring him back, he died a long time ago and he's being used by Fox's X-Men, unless they merge the universes, Quicksilver will stay dead in the MCU.

The expression he makes when he says for all of us makes me so sad. All he wanted was to be loved by his father. In the end everything he did means nothing to him if he didn't have his father's love.

Odin should have shown his love more. Loki wouldn't be so vengeful if he did.
The voice and the expression breaks my heart.

By commuting genocide, and doing what his father stopped doing a long time ago.
Loki was smiling right after he said it, just hoping the fact that he cared more about his family than his own race would be enough for his father to love him, only to hear another “no.” Then you can see all the emotion leave from his face, he doesn’t care about life anymore, he’s totally content with dying now because if that won’t convince Odin, nothing will, and life is empty without a true family

Bro, the first “Thor” was so underrated. The people that hated on this movie so much must have missed the true meaning of the movie. This movie isn’t all about the action, which is what everyone wants to see in sci-fi action films nowadays. What it’s about is Thor learning how not to be obsessive in starting wars with others and not be so arrogant and reckless and instead, gain a sense of humility and selflessness and learn how to be kind, caring, and considerate of other people in order to gain his worthiness back. This movie is a well-developed story of how Thor becomes more heroic. That’s why he decided to sacrifice himself by leaving himself to die at the hands of Loki and The Destroyer on Earth when trying to protect Jane, her friends, and his fellow Asgardians, Lady Sif and the Warriors Three. That’s why he also made another sacrifice by attempting to destroy The Rainbow Bridge that connects the Bifrost to all Nine Realms including Asgard and Earth so that he could prevent Earth from experiencing any more danger than it already has. This movie is also about the true origins of Loki and is about his story arc. In my opinion, Kenneth Branagh did an excellent job telling the story of how Thor became a hero and how Loki became a villain.
Wow! I've always thought the same, and until now, I had never heard someone else say this.
wow you write that passage under every Thor video but sadly an average movie is an average movie, which is what Thor is. Average.
I think the argument is that he learnt to be humble and selfless from a war mongering warrior prince way too soon.

Breaks my heart every time how he sounds almost like a child at the end ofthis scene. All he had ever tried to do his whole life was to prove himself, all he had wanted since he was young was for his father to be proud of him. So when he tries to prove to Odin that he could have saved everyone, it's no longer that grown up villain version of loki, its just the voice of a child, desperate to prove his worth and feel loved.

@@JSSTygerwho knows?, he can do time slipping back to this version of Loki and said that, and decide to let go of his grip.
“I NEVER WANTED THE THRONE! ALL I WANTED WAS TO BE YOUR EQUAL!” Honestly my favorite line from Loki with this one right after. He was much more of a tragic villain in the first Thor than any other movie he appeared in
Star wipe to the Loki season 2 finale his story has come full circle, he's got his throne and glorious purpose.
In retrospect, he lied. He did want the throne. And he got it, but it brought him nowhere. Only in an alternate timeline where the last thing he wants is a throne, does he get it

Odin didn't shed a single tear when loki fell from the broken bridge. This man only said a 'no' when his son attempted suicide in front of him. But when the destroyer hit Thor, he was immediately in tears.
Then he said"I love you my sons" in ragnarok. Seriously Odin was really a very confusing person.
I really think Odin loved loki. He just didn't know how to tell it to him.
Gargi Sil yes, he was an old timer... He had very conflicting ideas in his mind about how to deal with Loki. He didn't really know how to care for him, he just wanted to teach him right from wrong
@@TungstenViper Old timer is being kind. Men in general and especially men back then only cared about there biological offspring. Adopted children are just a afterthought. You see this in the bible, various mythologies, folk tales etc.. Loki was only a political bargaining chip in a war. He might have "tried to do the right thing" but any feelings he had would and were dwarfed by his own biological child. Loki should have been left in Jotunheim either to die or be raised by Laufy or another jotun family. He would have been a better leader that his father and maybe even restored some Jotonheims lost prestige.
i think what happened with odin is that when he had hela, he was hell-bent on being a ruler but then hela went insane to the point that odin finally realized what he had done. he ended up casting her out to a prison where the only thing that kept her in her cage was odin. in thor, he tried to do the right thing and also with loki but he really ended up failing both of them. he gave thor this false sense of confidence and duty only to cast him out because thor gave him a bad reminder of hela and later when thor returned humbled. thor began to question about odin's ideas following frigga's death. in loki, he should've been honest with him from the beginning and did more to not put loki in thor's shadow yet made loki feel inferior, insecure, and narcissistic. thor and loki felt like they weren't good enough for him forcing them to eventually reconcile until loki's death but loki 2.0 still has the chance to be with his brother and both could be equals again since thor decided not to be king. odin at least to his credit admitted that he failed his sons for not being truthful and more compassionate towards them while also telling them that they had to face someone who is a monster. at least he gave them a place where they could create a new home.
Odin's eye is all misty when Loki falls. You see it when he says no.
And his actions in Ragnarok come from knowing he's inches from death and being at piece with himself. It let him forgive Loki for New York and Dark World. It's why he's not so hurt after getting banished. Just like Thor, it helped him learn humility.
Some People Don't Know How to Express Their Feelings
Loki writers actually doing their homework. Rewatched his stuff, remembered key lines and motivations. Wrote a very satisfying character arc turning him into a captial case God worth respecting. Amazing work.
This line was improved by Tom himself in the series finale. He said in an recent interview.

Loki falls, emotional music, and suddenly: His smily face!
It wasn't his smiley face, moron. It was Odin's response to once again deny him any sense of self-destiny and righteousness, no approval, etc. that made him steel his face. He didn't smile. He had a morose, melancholy, bitter, and giving-up -mix of an expression. He just gave up and left without caring what happened next. How this was not obvious to you blows my mind. yea very sad ANYWAYS LETS HOLD A PARTY FOR MY ONE AND ONLY, HEROIC, WORTHY, MJOLNIR-WIELDING SON, THOR!!!!
@@universequeen2119 The feast wasn't for Thor's sake. It was for the Asgardians, It was something very rooted in Asgardian culture, they don't *eat* as often humans do, they can survive an incredible amount of time without eating, but when they need to eat, when their bodies asks them for food they have feasts enormous amounts of food and drinks and they gather together, like a party, even though it isn't such, like what was shown at the end of the movie... In which they can be seen enjoying, but not Thor this time, he had to make an appearance for his people's sake, but he isn't quite there his mind is far away, he left seeking solitude and went to find his father, after Thor grabs his mother's hand he leaves the feast. After he left Thor's mother asked Lady Sif (one Thor's friend) how was Thor? she was concerned for Thor because she knew he wasn't going to dump on his mother how he was feeling, not to worry her, despite the fact that she knows him she knows he wasn't ok, I mean emotionally and mentally, but she wanted to know what Sif knew, Sif told her that he was mourning the loss of his brother, Loki and that yeah that he also misses Jane, the mortal (Sif words).. At the end I didn't see a happy Odin for the loss of Loki either, he was retired from everyone just like Thor, he was deep in thought and sad... Now I'm not saying Odin is a great father because he isn't, he wasn't good at parenting by any stretch of the imagination, but and I may be wrong about this next part but I do believe he loved Loki, and not just Loki but Hela too (despite what he did to her, she was a product of Odin's conquering years, he forge her to be the way she was Odin and his bloodthirsty past with his first family before his wishes to change and before he met Thor's mother, Frigga and obviously prior having Thor and adopting Loki, but Hela's love for conquer and bloodshed were bigger than Odin's, and she didn't want to stopped, but Odin mold her like that, so because she was so powerful he imprisoned her and kept her lock away in hell with his magic otherwise she would have escape, like she did many times when she killed the Valkyries, that's when Odin knew that only his magic would kept her locked away, sad that he was a terrible father if he only he had raised her differently, and yes, he loved Thor too, he teaches Thor a lesson on time, he saw where Thor could be heading to, he didn't wanted Thor to turn like him, he saw that Thor was far from that, though yes he was arrogant, reckless and pampered, but he still had a good heart, he needed to learn humility though, and more things, by the end of the first movie Thor acknowledge this, he understood that he still had a lot to learn, that he wasn't ready to be king, and by the 2nd movie he was being very mature (this is prior the change his character underwent from Ragnarok till date, it's like two different Thors, and I mead Odinson, I have to clarify after the last Thor movie😩) performing his father's commands in other realms, restoring peace in the ones that were at war, but he didn't want to be King, he had grown so much from the Thor of the first movie that he no longer saw the appeal of the crown, he now saw it for what it was, he had previously wanted to be king because he loved the idea of it all, he wanted to be like his father, bc Thor basically worshipped Odin and had a romanticize idea of being King..
Odin definitely was lacking in the parents department, he made grave to many errors while raising Hela, Thor and Loki, yes, he saved Thor from turning like Hela or a younger version of himself (Odin).. lesson Thor learned while he had been banished from Asgard, living on earth like a human, believing he had been permanently banished and condemned to live like a mortal (Odin as stripped him from his Asgardian nature when he exiled him as a punishment too) so Thor was like a strong human but human nonetheless, he was nowhere near as strong as Asgardians and never to be be able to see Asgard his parents, brother, friends and his people again... Odin definitely wasn't a good example, wasn't a good father at all, but I do believe he loved his 3 children...

Thor was quiet and talked about Jane, Odin was even just quiet and Frigga was talking about Thor's loss while others were sharing their humourous experience!!! Doesn't Loki deserve at least that much love and emotions from his so called 'family'??
It wasn't a party, that was just supper of the gods
It was just a normal dinner for them. But i agree questioning why none even mourn, yeah i get it Loki did something bad, his a villain, evil, but isn't he deserving for at least a day to be mourned? His after all a prince.
also, every time Loki died they legit just left him there. no proper memorial, just "oh well guess we gotta go"
@@Silly_Illidan And in honor of Frigga, too, in the Dark World? It's disgusting
Everything Loki does is for his father's approval! This scene is so heartbreaking. Specially the sadness in Loki's eyes when he decides to give up!
1:32 did you hear that? Thor's voice! That grin! He looked so proud after saving his baby brother from falling off that bridge! Only to see him falling in the end!
Thor's love for Loki is just so underrated! Ouch!🥺😢😢😭😭
He’s not grinning lol
@@chin5983 He smiled in relief thinking he saved Loki.
1:33
Loki tries his best. He's just cast aside and misunderstood so much.
I will forever love Loki.
Me too 😭 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
i love it how thor laughed like 'i did it, we'll be all right' and how his mood changed when he realized loki decided to let go
When Loki says "I could have done it father. I could have done it. For you. For all of us." and his voice breaks a little at the end, it breaks my heart
1:56 when you thought you had class with your best friend but turns out his schedule was wrong and you have no classes with him......
I.e. this semester at Uni.
WE WERE SUPPOSED TO STUDY BIOLOGY TOGETHER
Lmaooo
"IF YOU DESTROY THE BRIDGE YOU'LL NEVER SEE HER AGAIN!"
This part truly made me cry because I felt as though I could feel as sad as Thor was to sacrifice his chance to see Jean again, the one woman who he's always loved, just for the safety of his home, the realms, and the love of his life.
"For you, for all of us."
-- Loki, God of Story, God of Multiverse
Unstable child? Check! Hanging off bridge? Check! Rude father? "No Loki" Check! ALL THE THINGS YOU NEED TO MAKE YOUR CHILD FALL INTO A VOID!!!
i love how when everyone was saying no, out of nowhere the background with loki smiling comes lool
Ikr lol
The ultimate glorious purpose of Loki is holding the fabric of reality itself for the sake of his friends and everyone else. What a legend!
Friendly reminder that letting go of the Bifrost and falling into the abyss should've killed Loki. And he did that WILLINGLY. What he did in this scene was the equivalent of a suicide attempt.
"Yes... That's what killing you means."
Mhm
Every time I watch scenes from this movie, it makes me realise it's better than I remember. I wish the Shakespearean elements were kept in The Dark World, and though I love Ragnarok for being an excellent, kind of self aware parody of the MCU, it would've been nice to have a Shakespearean-style Thor trilogy.
Nah thors character was very boring because of it imo
@@Seedonator It honestly wasn't.
But without Loki. The real Loki. The one who understood things in the end of Ragnarok. And then died. But we love the mischievous Loki. So a Loki who will do the right things is just not acceptable.
Loki made me cry in this scene, he also made me cry in finale of season two. Such a great development and showing how good Loki always was. He didn't want to be alone and yet chose to be for the sake of others. For eternity. Tom Hiddleston is such a fucking good actor i love him.
Man, I love this movie. And I miss it's Shakespearean feel.
You have the great Kenneth Branagh to thank for that..
I wish they kept the same Shakespearean feel for Thor movies!
Julian Zabala I love the Shakespearean elements of Thor too. Ragnarok was so jarring, like it was trying to be GOTG
GoddessOfWhim2003 same I actually liked Thor better when it was more serious. Though Ragnarok was certainly very amusing as well but in a completely different way
@Trump The Disappointment yes, thank you
Omg 1:35 Tom's Voice. He was about 28 here and sounded like a 15 year old😂❤️
1:41 Hi's voice implores his father. Oh my God.
well in human years Loki is about 16 years old :D so it matches perfectly
Wtf lol
In Human years he could have 1,150 years old as he is supposed to be younger than Thor and Thor which is 1,500 years old sounded like a fuckin grown man
In Asgardian years however Loki is probably 16 or 15 and Thor probably 18 or 20
@@RizLazey yeah
Thats called good acting
If Loki didn't fall, Thanos would never found him and gave him the scepter to rule Earth. The Avengers we know wouldn't form. If the scepter didn't fall in HYDRA's Hands, Wanda won't have powers to give Tony a nightmare that proceeds to making Ultron. The events of Sokovia won't happen because Ultron won't be born. The Sokovia Accords wouldn't happen and Zemo will not tear the Avengers apart because his family will not die. Events of Civil War won't happen.
If you change the scenario of this scene then the whole MCU would be a little different.
After this, Thanos found him and... well everybody knows what happened.
King Of Sea Food What happened, baby?

Really Odin?!
It was so hard to him to say: "You didn't have too"?

“No..”
In a I don’t care tone
It took so time for me to realize is that he literally attempted to k*ll himself, a simple it’s okay or u love you probably would’ve helped
He knew Loki would let go so his "no" was for that - don't let go. Am I the only one that sees this? Lol
@@umairbutt1355 really?
This aged like a gold. The same quotes after he sacrificed himself for his friends in TVA. "For you. For all of us."
0:43 even in that time he's thoughts are how his brother won't see his love if he destroyed the bridge. Maybe he said that cause he didn't want the bridge destroyed, but I'll still believe he said that because he cared for his brother
If you watch closely, after Loki says "I could have done it, Father! I could have done it! For you! For all of us!" he gives a small smile but the smile leaves as soon as it came
One variant dead. The other ascended.
'for you. For all of us"
The pain in Loki's voice when he says "I could have done it father." Hurts me so much
Loki proved himself better king than both odin and thor in the movie by taking out laufey cleverly and thus ending the upcoming war with jotuns. By killing laufey, he became the king of joteunheim and didnt initiate the war.
But the original sin remains. Loki killed his own father by blood just so he can win the approval of his adopted father. Yes that is drama.
@@visionaerie To be fair, biological father left him to die.
@@scarlettsandiego778 yeah , those frost giants dont seem 2 have cohesive family connections. thats what Loki always wanted all along: to be accepted by his family.
@@visionaerie There is no sin. If a father or mother abdicates there parental duties to another, let alone a sworn enemy, they automatically spit on there ancestors. The child cannot be held to same moral code if they were never raised in it or the culture as they were denied that experience. Loki's father did it to himself. Either put the child you see as deformed down, put them up for adoption, or raise them yourself but don't expect them to not pick up on the disgust and resentment. Lauefy did neither of these things, he let his bio son be used a bargaining chip, and cared more about getting the casket of winters back then his own son. Loki's owes his him nothing as he was seen as nothing and given nothing.
He literally tried to commit genocide of an entire species and planet.
and in 2024 he's become a god. saying the same line " for you for all of us" this time this means a lot.
Loki just wanted Odin's approval of him being an equally worthy son like Thor. Look at 1:46 he was heartbroken to know that his father said NO even in the end 😭😭😭
This scene makes me so sad! Loki just wants Odin to be proud of him and be equal to Thor but it isn't given that at all. And it results in tragedy!!!
Loki has changed. You can not be king as long as Thor lives.
Hi Loki. Sadly yeah you can't be

Thor 3 was most heartbeaking
This hit different after Loki finale. Oh man what an ending.

Thor "So you take the world I love as a recompense for your imagined slights' no the earth is under my protection Loki".
