Pfitzinger Synthesis of Quinoline | Pfitzinger Synthesis Mechanism | Heterocyclic Compounds 17

In this lecture we will discuss the unique method of quinoline synthesis called Pfitzinger synthesis of quinoline. Pfitzinger synthesis is used to synthesize the quinoline by sing isatin compound as a starting material. In pfitzinger reaction, isatin reacts with methylene ketone in the presence of a strong base potassium hydroxide to yield quinoline. Here we discuss the complete reaction with the mechanism in an easy way with tricks and practice questions.
