    Thanks for this. I am a 57 year old man learning to crochet and I wanted a project that i can do over and over to get the hang of things. I finished my first one! It came out horrible. I miscounted stitches, rows, misplaced stitches, etc. But I couldn't be prouder. Now on to the next one and make it better!

    • @BonnieBayCrochet

      So glad this worked for you! Mistakes are the best way to learn. You are right about the next one being better. It takes time to establish the muscle memory. Pretty soon you won't even have to think about it!

    Hi, I just wanted to thank you for this tutorial. Over a year ago I was trying to learn to crochet and I was getting frustrated to tears and THIS was the tutorial that finally helped me learn. I crochet daily now and I have you to thank. So thank you, Bonnie. You're an amazing teacher.

    • @BonnieBayCrochet

      I am so very happy that this worked out for you! Yes, this skill can be pretty frustrating when just starting out. There is a lot of muscle memory that needs to be developed in the hands before it becomes a "relaxing" hobby.

    Oh my goodness! I'm an old lady and YOU are the best teacher. I've been crafting, beading, and sewing for most of my life, but my mother was not a knitter or crocheter (she was a sewer) so I never had that instruction in my life. I've always wanted to learn crochet and tried to learn several times, but thanks to you I have my first completed project that actually looks like what it's supposed to be!

The world was getting to my brain. I thought a project that had to do with counting would take my mind of what we all were walking thru. So, thanks for teaching method of holding the yarn and where to put the fingers and what each do. I finally got it.

    I want to thank you so much for making this video! I already commented on this video, but my name was Johnpolcintertiarypaul...because I was using my dad's account. Back then I was 13. I'm now 15 and I love crocheting! I crochet so much that I have bad carpel tunnel in both wrists 😅. I searched and tried using several videos and none of them worked for me. I'm so glad I found this one cuz I was actually able to understand it. And now I'm teaching my 7 and 4 year old sisters ro crochet with the help of this video!! I'm currently typing out this comment with a blanket I'm working on sitting on my lap 😅, and my sister watching the same video on our computer

    Thank you very much. This is my first time trying to crochet. I love your explanations and going slowly. As you said, I think I need to sit with someone because I am having a very hard time figuring out how to hold my work. It took me 15 minutes to do 24 stitches. 😖😕

    • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  Год назад

      That's actually very remarkable so soon Kate! Do take all the time you need to get comfortable with holding the yarn correctly. This is the most important skill right now. The stitches will come much more easily once you get the muscle memory fixed.
      The first few hours are always the hardest!

    I really enjoyed this video and appreciate the time spent creating a tutorial. A couple of things worth mentioning: 1) it’s important to turn your work the same way at the end of every row or the edges will look different and it’s difficult to find the last stitch to crochet into; 2) it is important to mention the extra chain stitch at the end of every row creates a ladder stepping you up to the next row and it counts as the first stitch; 3) when chaining your foundation row it is advisable to add two extra chains to create that first ladder into the first row. If you don’t you can’t find the first chain to crochet into when you get to the end of the row...if that makes sense; 4) it took me only half an hour to make the dish cloth and if somebody was to ask how much cotton it took, it took exactly 12 g.

I have trying on an off for several years to teach myself and some looks ok an some are just horrible lol my biggest problem is usually my ends are always off. I have wanted to do a chevron/ raverly blanket but it’s just a mess. Going to start over doing dishcloths and working on all my stitches I’ve learned and how to NOT make it to tight, to where it curls to get this down. I’m late at starting (63) but I am determined to get this down and to learn to be able to go by a pattern (soon I hope). Your a really good tutor for this!!! ☺️☺️☺️

    I agree with Hillary Beck, your teaching style and even video style compared to other beginner videos was done in away way that is THE most clear and understandable without all the distractions.
    Only one thing gave me a bit of anxiety, it was when you were speeding up in the beginning of the lesson. BUT you caught yourself and self corrected. I used to teach Art K-8 and that is just what a teacher does, you self correct your method around your class full of various learning speeds that are happening as much as possible, and then in person attend to those still not getting it and praise your class for their efforts, and encourage the perfectionists. Just grateful YT has “save” and that I can play parts of this and other teaching videos over.
    Knitting and crochet are a skill that has been hard for me, and I have done pottery, mosaics and even tiled my own shower. I think this possibly due tracking and memory issues and my attention issues because of them.
    However, like you mentioned , I know about muscle memory and also that I can achieve hyper focus once I master certain skills. Looking forward to trying this project. It all still makes me a little anxious, but that could be lack of sleep and the coffee not hitting me right as I mentally plan the gathering of the materials you mentioned. lol Thank you so much!

    I am so glad I chose your class, I learn so much in just a few minutes. You made it simple and easy to follow. I thank you for making this video and will subscribe to continue learning. The hint of making 2 chains at corner makes it easy instead of trying to get into them...

    I just completed this project with white yarn and I used a medium brown yarn for the border. However, I did not do the edging.

    I love this video. I made 25 chains but when I am done with the second row I have half as many chains. what am I doing wrong?!

    • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  2 года назад +1

      You may be skipping every other stitch. Perhaps rip back that row and try again? You can always send a photo of your work to me at bonniebay@me.com and I can give a quick response as to the issue I can spot.

    Thank you. I am almost 67 years old and never learned this skill. I have the yarn and a hook. I just need to get a needle like this. I am looking forward to doing this when my husband and I are sitting in front of the tube in the evening! 🙂

      I hope you enjoy this one! This cotton yarn can be a bit stiff to work with. Just know that other fibers (for non-kitchen items) will be even more enjoy work with!❤️
