I think the Tanna in this met Prince Phillip (as Karl asked how that happened) when they did a Channel 4 programme called Meet the Natives - I remember Albi being in that. It was really good, they came to England and stayed with a working class family, a middle class family and an upper class family and gave their insights into how each behaved. It was pretty good actually, I’ve always remembered it at least, might go back and see if I can find it
Mandy, you are in your element doing the idiot abroad reactions. I love how you bring your own life experiences and thoughts about Karl's warped outlook on life. Definitely one of my favourite "reactors", keep up the good work. And so cute!
It's actually really cute how they came to be into Phillip. When he and the Queen turned up, he was in full white naval uniform and they were awestruck. And the feeling went both ways. Channel 4 did a show where these folk were brought to the UK to experience it here. They went to a farm and were amazed at how big the pigs were compared to theirs. They also witnessed the artificial insemination of a sow but were upset she wasn't getting sexual pleasure from it like their pigs do. It was a wonderfully innocent mindset.
When Ricky tells Karl the he - Karl - will be in his 'pants' on the desert island, he means underwear every time. Though 'pants' and underwear' are used interchangeably by Karl. When a Brit says pants they mean only underwear. That's why Karl worrying about being seen by cruiseships is 'the stuff of nightmares' for him.B y the way, this reaction was tremendous. One of the best so far. I laughed a lot during my lunch break from work!
Fun fact: Desert Island Discs is a long-standing (80 years) British Radio Program featuring famous celebrities' anecdotes and their 8 favorite music discs. Ricky Gervais appeared as a guest once. It's not for a reaction video, but more for chilling out on a lazy Sunday afternoon. 🏜🏝
This is probably my favourite episode. I love happy Karl and I could watch him with the Tanna people for hours. It’s so wholesome and sweet. I think the best parts of the show are where he’s not being tormented and he gets to open his kind and experience new things. It’s part of why the moaning of life is better in my opinion. It’s Karl doing what he wants and learning and growing. Great reaction. I’m gonna be sad when you run out of these to watch.
20:20 ROFL 😂😂 and I loved that the guy actually understood it aswell! Most of the people he’s with wouldn’t understand and easily miss stuff like that, language barriers etc
Robinson Crusoe is a very famous book from the 1700s and later film about a shipwrecked man who spends his life on an island. He went near 30 years before meeting a man who he dubs "Friday". Which is where the expression "Man Friday" comes from, a term used to call a random man you don't know. Theres "Swiss Family Robinson" which is a reimagining of the story in more modern times but with a family instead of one man
Mandy, I’ve watched this so many times, but watching it with your reactions, especially to Karl’s “land dive” had me in absolute tears! My belly hurts from laughing so much! I’m so happy you’re doing this season!
8:54 I love how perfectly timed the 5 second rewinds were, makes it sound like Karl actually said "Oh yeah! Bungee jump! Bungee jump! It's not gonna happen!"
It's not every day that you can see Karl smile, much less have a full on belly laugh. Also, props to him for taking a seemingly safe four foot drop and turning it into a face-planting, dirt smashing body flop that looks more dangerous than the originally proposed 30 foot jump.
@@MandyCaneLane Haha.. that's ok, I don't make much sense to myself most of the time. The wooden tower they were jumping off (land diving) reminded me of the Wicker man in the film of the same name. ruclips.net/video/_wI9nvc_iy8/видео.html At 21:12 when he jumps and bounces off the ground, made me think of the phrase "dead cat bounce." Probably the best episode so far. So many classic Karl moments, made all the better with your wonderful commentary and laughter. Thank you, once again.
I did my bungee jump in Taupo, New Zealand, in 2007. I have a fear of heights, to the extent that as a teenager, I would never even get on a ladder to help my dad fix the tiling on the roof. All he would ask is that I could pass him tools and tiles, but I would be overcome with fear halfway up the ladder. The bungee is totally the scariest thing I've ever done, but once you are in the air and diving down, it's by far the most adrenaline pumping feeling I've ever had. The jump I did was also over water, but I asked not to be "dipped" (that was an option apparently). I highly recommend it, but I still have vertigo and sometimes wonder how I plucked up the courage to jump off the edge. I totally sympathise with Karl, as while I was on the edge I accidentally looked down and I had to ask the guy to give me a few mins to psych myself back into it again. The guys in Taupo were great, they didnt push me or make me feel bad about taking my time to jump. Although I was the first jumper at 8:30am that day and I chose that time so that there wouldn't be a crowd watching me from the gallery area either :)
there's another south pacific island tribe in Vanuatu that worship planes. During WW1, some of the islands were used as staging grounds and planes would fly over and drop supplies for troops, some of which made their way to the tribe either as misdrops that landed on their island or given to them by the servicemen. After the war, they got no more air drop supplies so began making replica planes from wood and even runways to entice the gods back lol the religion is known as "jon frum" from how servicemen would introduce themselves to the tribe. "I'm John, from The United States" also, that phot of them with Prince Phillip is from a documentary from here in the UK called "Meet the Natives" where a group of them were brought over to the UK. They stayed in London, on a farm, in a suburbs and at the end met Prince Phillip. It was really interesting to see how shocked they were at the idea of us pruning trees and flowers. To them it was horrific! the idea of harming a plant and making it look unnatural. And the idea of breeding specific animals and not letting them just reproduce as they wish
With your added commentary it's as good as watching for the first time again Mandy, excellent reaction ... although, I never, ever, expected to hear the term " Karl with his junk out ! " in a sentence and I don't want that image ever to return ! 😂😂
Karl trying the arseboarding then showing them how to roll down the volcano "c'mon, let's have a roll" is one of my favourite moments ever - that and the "that's a leaf.." bit 😆 he said it like "Holy crap, do you not even have leaves in the UK? We really are starting from square one here". Cannot wait for the next one - this series is gold from start to finish. Thanks Mandy 😊
OH MY GOD How do you jump from a foot off the ground, intending to do a faceplant and somehow against all odds, fail upward like a glorious shinning white comet. Rock on Karl, I genuinly love this guy because from his point of view every single thing he does is totally reasonable and he is right. His beauty is that he never, ever once in his life, gave into peer pressure or the norms of society. He is 100 per cent himself against all odds and it is glorius to behold!
48:45 ''How does he find a way to complain about everything?'' Exactly Mandy! That's why he is hated so much here in the UK. (Ha ha, Mandy-style laughter, he's not hated at all, he's universally loved.)
18:26 Mandy: "Why? _Whyyyy???_ Why? What's wrong with the person that films this? He's always zooming in on the knob areas!" But, Mandy, the camera man is just following the specific directions he got from Mr. Ricky Gervais.
3:28 - this is like when you ask for the specifics from a genie... Karl - 'one night on a desert island...but the night can't be on Jupiter or somewhere where a night lasts months, alright?' Genie Ricky - 'of course, of course - one night on a desert island, just one night, twelve hours or so. Simple.' Karl - 'an' no cannibals either' Genie Ricky - 'shit, I almost had him'
Obviously the producers are the ones who arranged the pig. He says he’s been told to give them the pig, he doesn’t say he found it or brought it himself
15:20 I love how cunning and deceptive Karl gets with Ricky and Steve and this reoccurring bungee jump theme going about this series. Especially later on when he “did the jump” so that guy could get his shack built, but Ricky, Steve and the rest of the world were going to find out the truth when they watched it on national TV! 😂😂 Yeah I’m the same as you about the bungee jumping. Like I say, I prefer not to be on the wrong side of gravity because gravity always wins! I have done some pretty scary things before, but mostly clipped in a harness and safer. I’d want it to be over very very deep water so I could dive/cut through it if anything went wrong, preferably with lifeguards nearby.
Funny how Ricky looks completely different in this series compared to series 1. This is hislook now. He much suits a beard plus he slimmed down a lot. He always said his weakness is wine and cheese, he loves it especially cheese. He can't drive, so when he was younger he used to run everywhere. He still goes running now every morning round where he lives
He loves beer. He often does live streams on Twitter and he always starts with music and a beer. He tells us what track it is and what beer he has this time.
That was a lot of fun! Not so much for Karl but watching along with Mandy definitely was. When Karl asks "What's the point?" Ricky replied "I thought it might be funny." Well that would be the whole of Ricky's philosophy right there. Karl's first go at dancing in this episode reminded me of Jacques Tati in 'Monsieur Hulot's Holiday.' When either of them move, you're going to laugh. The editing, brilliant.
7:00 this is answered in an interview video with ricky and karl where they ask karl why does he do it again and again and ricky says at some point: "...and it made him a million dollars" (and karl smiles 😄)
Small planes Mandy....should try the one hopping over to Inishmore from Galway......they leave the safety show and the doors in your hands....it's brilliant....
One of your best reactions for sure! Your laugh at the 'it's a leaf' bit was great :) Yeah that tribe do worship Prince Philip as a god. Although now he's passed away, maybe that honour goes to Karl !? :) Don't forget that when Karl refers to 'pants' it's underpants, not shorts or trousers. It's a UK thing :) And 'niggle' in UK means (according to a dictionary) "to criticise someone about small details or give too much attention to details" e.g. 'She niggles endlessly over the exact pronunciation.' or 'The accounts department is niggling me for ten pence they say I owe them.' The episodes get even better and I know why people are asking you to skip the beginning titles and yes I'd agree with that. Can't wait for more and then Season 3 and then The Moaning of Life.. All great stuff!
30:50 not anymore they can't 😅💀 Karl does come out with some good philosophy on happiness here, I'd alter it a bit to something like "You need time without cake to appreciate the times you have it..." - more of a positive spin about appreciation than getting sick of things - but same sentiment. "What's that?" "......... it's a leaf." 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Now come on Mandy, there is no reason to be shy. We are all friends here. So you can admit that on the occasions where you have been to a beach or a desert you have got sand in your flaps.
Okay, you sold me on this program. I watched S1 E1 last week and wasn't impressed. I rolled the dice once again due to your recommendation. This Karl guy is an absolute gem. I hooked.
You need time for him to grow on you! I started out watching isolated Karl clips to start to understand him, went on to the Ricky Gervais Show and then started An Idiot Abroad later. He is amazing when you understand how he works!!
Great start to season 2 Mandy, loved seeing you crying with laughter! 😂 And a lot of the questions you asked about why Karl is doing season 2 after he said he wasn’t going to do it, Karl will let you know in episode 8 when he comes home 😂
In case no one answered, Niggle means being winded up by someone and getting really annoyed by it, very wise to take string and duck tape, the chiefs son was happy with that, just as you told him off for not offering, the universe told you off for that, you enjoyed it far more than some of the season 1 episodes.
YES. good advice. skip the opening because at the end of this season Karl does something that is just incomprehensible. and no this is not over-hyping it because you cant even imagine it. but it is shown in the intro so skip skip skip!
12:50 was it a scary part of the particular show that was on? For a second I was thinking the back stage staff who wait on the wings in the dark to change bits of the scenes around got scared and walked off, that would halt the entire show! 😂😂you’d think they’d be used to working in the dark by now lol
I love Karl. His idea of happyness is the opposite of everyone elses. At least he jumped four and a half feet on a Bungy. You laughed a lot with this Episode. 😊😄
Great reaction as always! When I was watching, the sun showed up here for the first time in a couple of months, so I did what all swedes do, I rushed out to get some minutes of sunshine 🥰 I think this was a cute episode. Karl smiled a lot and some cute moments. The skirt was cute too 😅✌️💖
That is exactly what he was baffled by. I mean nobody gets to meet royalty over here so it is kinda mad that a random tribe in the middle of nowhere have met prince/king phllip lol
Well every time you upload a video you always laugh, displaying you’re happy at the time. It would be a different and interesting experience seeing you display other emotions triggered by what you watch.
It has happened! Haha, a few things I really didn't like got blocked though. Also I watched a bunch of Christmas ads that weren't funny. Confusion is my go to though if something isn't funny... LOL
I'm glad they at least gave Karl the option of where to go, this time. On the bungie jump part, I would have wanted to hit everyone there, cause there's no way I'm doing that, and the guy was ready to push him off the edge. One thing about this show is, people like me see things from around the world that we would have otherwise never seen or heard of. So in all of Ricky's laughing at Karl, Ricky got the viewers to see the world through Karl. And good for Karl that he can say that he's well traveled because of the show.
To me the idiots are ones behind the desk! I am happy to se Karl stands his ground. And it’s a little bit a cheap concept having two vise guys hanging and other person out to dry!
24:52 OMG Karl is shaking! He has really been conditioned by Ricky and Stephen to expect bad things will happen. That's why things can't get too nice. He knows if he ends up at a janitors' office with an en suite shed he'll be alright but if he ever gets to be on his Bounty Island from the commercial that looks so enticing something's up. Stephen and Mr. RIcky really did a number on Karl.
I always think Ricky and Steve missed a chance to mess with Karl even more than they do as when Karl arrives somewhere and there is someone waiting for him with a sign with his name on it I would have had all the signs say Karl Piklington and see how long it takes Karl to notice 😄.
am i the only one who gets a warm fuzzy feeling seeing karl laughing? its a very rare treat
I love it too
karl in Icelandic means a Man a male (hard to see it here)

"How was your driving test?" "I didn't go in the end, I bottled it."

not just appreciate, how would you even recognize happiness or light if you don't know what tragedy or darkness is.
And yet she made it sound like Karl was pulling nonsense out of his arse when he said that
That wasn't fanta, that was sunscreen, hence why he showed it and shook his head, since it was raining.

Yeah that tribe do worship Prince Philip as a god. Although now he's passed away, maybe that honour goes to Karl !? :)
Don't forget that when Karl refers to 'pants' it's underpants, not shorts or trousers. It's a UK thing :)
And 'niggle' in UK means (according to a dictionary) "to criticise someone about small details or give too much attention to details"
e.g. 'She niggles endlessly over the exact pronunciation.' or 'The accounts department is niggling me for ten pence they say I owe them.'
The episodes get even better and I know why people are asking you to skip the beginning titles and yes I'd agree with that.
Can't wait for more and then Season 3 and then The Moaning of Life.. All great stuff!
So glad you enjoyed Rusty!!! This episode was so much fun! So many great moments in it too. And thank you for the explanations! 🤗🌈🌷
A niggle can also be a small injury or a nagging pain or reoccurring thought
Karl jumping from 5ft..5.6ft.... 🤣
Lmao!
Don't even watch the intro on the last one, or it will ruin the end of the last one... That was good advice you've been given.
Glad I was given good advice then!
Oooooooooh here we go! Series 2 baby you gotta love it! Thank you Mandy 🎉
Woot woot! 🥳
30:50 not anymore they can't 😅💀
Karl does come out with some good philosophy on happiness here, I'd alter it a bit to something like "You need time without cake to appreciate the times you have it..." - more of a positive spin about appreciation than getting sick of things - but same sentiment.
"What's that?" "......... it's a leaf." 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, he worded the happiness thing quite wrong.. LOL
I’m with you on that, I would only bungee jump if there was a jumping castle on a lake beneath
Yeah! That is a great idea!
10:20 "Bottled it" = Chickened out.
Thank you
Niggle is something that’s nagging at your mind. Not to be confused with Snigle which means a small back ally
Cool, thank you!
🤪
38:23 he said “his nob in some Wicker” great reaction btw
Thank you Aaron! 🤗
@@MandyCaneLane no worries! I just realised both my comments related to nobs, that’s embarrassing😂😂
Poor Karl. It’s ok you didn’t jump. I wouldn’t jump either.
Now come on Mandy, there is no reason to be shy. We are all friends here. So you can admit that on the occasions where you have been to a beach or a desert you have got sand in your flaps.
That “land dive” was just sad. 😂 but i hate heights so I get it.
It is still one of the best things I have ever seen on TV! 🤣🤣🤣
If something is niggling you then its preoccupying your mind ( niggle ) .
Great reaction !
Ahhh, ok. Thank you!! 🤗🌈🌷
"it's a leaf"
The opening 5 words of your video sounded like the opening lyrics to 2 Unlimited - Get ready for this 😆
I just checked. You are correct. A talented person could and should do a mash up.
That was the idea, I knew I was watching this episode yesterday and had that song in my head because of it! 🤪🤣
@@MandyCaneLane I'm probably the only person who spotted it. I remember it being in the chart, showing my age a bit now 😂
@@davebirch1976 Haha worry not! You are not the only when that mentioned it! 🤗🤪
He said I've bottled it on the bungee jumping meaning I've lost my nerve
Ahh, thank you!
52:00 Karl went with “not giving a bit is not giving a shit” xD
Nvm, he shared :D
Great start to season 2 Mandy, loved seeing you crying with laughter! 😂
And a lot of the questions you asked about why Karl is doing season 2 after he said he wasn’t going to do it, Karl will let you know in episode 8 when he comes home 😂
Karl Pilkington needs to write a book called the most unconventional and pointless quotes ever. Lol 😆
I am sure he has, he just called it "Karl's Diary"
Bottled it = chickened out
Thank you Tony
And here we go
Woot woot 🥳
@@MandyCaneLane just finished watching it, amazing
Would love to have seen Rickys reaction to Karl dancing in the leaf skirt haha
I think Karl got more hurt jumping from that short distance than if he would have jump for a higher one
Right? 🤣🤣🤣
In case no one answered, Niggle means being winded up by someone and getting really annoyed by it, very wise to take string and duck tape, the chiefs son was happy with that, just as you told him off for not offering, the universe told you off for that, you enjoyed it far more than some of the season 1 episodes.
Haha, the universe was playing so much with this episode! And this was epic! So many amazing moments in one!! 🤣😅
YES. good advice. skip the opening because at the end of this season Karl does something that is just incomprehensible. and no this is not over-hyping it because you cant even imagine it. but it is shown in the intro so skip skip skip!
Cool! Glad I was told before hand. Never understood the point of spoiling a video/season with the intro 🤷🏻♀️
To be honest, the flying parts of all of the episodes is what I would like most lol...
I like when Karl dances.. 🤣
@@MandyCaneLane It's defnitely...different, and unique 🤣 Karl's Dance Guide would be a good publish story 🤔😅
45:54 he’s saying that the blokes nob looks like sushi😂
😵😅
12:50 was it a scary part of the particular show that was on? For a second I was thinking the back stage staff who wait on the wings in the dark to change bits of the scenes around got scared and walked off, that would halt the entire show! 😂😂you’d think they’d be used to working in the dark by now lol
I love Karl. His idea of happyness is the opposite of everyone elses. At least he jumped four and a half feet on a Bungy. You laughed a lot with this Episode. 😊😄
This was easily my favorite one so far! So many amazing moments!
@@MandyCaneLane
Great reaction as always! When I was watching, the sun showed up here for the first time in a couple of months, so I did what all swedes do, I rushed out to get some minutes of sunshine 🥰
I think this was a cute episode. Karl smiled a lot and some cute moments. The skirt was cute too 😅✌️💖
Thank you Cookie!! Seeing Karl laugh and smile is always great. And I am glad you got some sun! 🤗🌻🙌🏻
water is incompressable so you're probably better off bungie jumping over the rocks
I agree with Karl on Happiness and cake. People get addicted and think they need it when they don't.
And Mandy would YOU wear a nambas that everyone would see on RUclips? 🤨
I styled correctly 🤪
Karl in his Sky-diving wellies is the best! Haha Just think, if you were born on Vanuatu, your name would be Nandy! 🤣😂😂
Lol
Can’t wait for the season with Warwick Davis he was in Harry Potter and he is hilarious
Mandy the happiest youtuber
🤪😃
That is exactly what he was baffled by. I mean nobody gets to meet royalty over here so it is kinda mad that a random tribe in the middle of nowhere have met prince/king phllip lol
😅😅
If I was camping with Karl the papers would refer to him as the victim
10:04 if something did go wrong pushing him into it would look really bad😄
Well every time you upload a video you always laugh, displaying you’re happy at the time. It would be a different and interesting experience seeing you display other emotions triggered by what you watch.
It has happened! Haha, a few things I really didn't like got blocked though. Also I watched a bunch of Christmas ads that weren't funny. Confusion is my go to though if something isn't funny... LOL
00:14 Not gonna lie, Mandy Cane, for a moment there I really believed you were a neutral BBC Announcer announcing today's programme.
🤪
I'm glad they at least gave Karl the option of where to go, this time.
On the bungie jump part, I would have wanted to hit everyone there, cause there's no way I'm doing that, and the guy was ready to push him off the edge.
One thing about this show is, people like me see things from around the world that we would have otherwise never seen or heard of. So in all of Ricky's laughing at Karl, Ricky got the viewers to see the world through Karl. And good for Karl that he can say that he's well traveled because of the show.
Loving the channel Mandy. Keep it going 👍❤
Thank you so much Carl!
'Niggle' is a minor but persistent irritation. It could be anything from a mild injury to something that causes a bit of anxiety.
Thank you
😂😂 great reaction to a great episode 😂😂👏👏👏
I always think Ricky and Steve missed a chance to mess with Karl even more than they do as when Karl arrives somewhere and there is someone waiting for him with a sign with his name on it I would have had all the signs say Karl Piklington and see how long it takes Karl to notice 😄.
Lol!! 🤣🤣
Karl did not stick that landing
His face did! 😅
I assume they bought a pig knowing it would be a high value gift for the tribe or something
They ate the piggy, didn't they? 😢
