Stephen. Thanks for another fascinating video. I always look forward to seeing your layout, and your ideas for the Underground layout are very interesting. Have a great Christmas and a wonderful New Year. Pete
Thanks very much Pete. I'm looking forward to getting the electrical kit in the New Year so that I can start experimenting on getting it to work before I build the underground track. Should be fun. Have a great time over the festive period. Stephen
Thanks Rob. A new effect in the upgrade to Final Cut Pro which is particularly useful for Railway Modellers. I can see it getting a lot of use in our scale. Steve
Great update Stephen. Quite a lot going on there. Thanks for sharing. Have a great Christmas and New Year. Look forward to seeing your next update. Roy.
As these underground signals are affixed to the tunnel wall and sort of blend into the blackness, why not just put a piece of heatshrink over them and if you put a trackpin between them to use to affix to the wall before you shrink it, it should look OK. Very best Christmas and NeweYear wishes to you Stephen and your good lady. Arthur
Thanks Arthur and, as ever, a great suggestion on the signals. I will experiment with that over the Christmas period. I hope that you and your family have a great time over the Christmas period. Stephen
Hi Stephen! Lovely update at the end of the year! I know what you mean about the electronics - good on you for building up the energy/courage to give that a make over. It's part of my layout I'd happily never revisit, and I didn't ever get round to installing even a single point motor! Happy New Year to you!
Hi Michael and thanks. It has taken me quite a while to bring myself to tackle the control panel, and if it hadn't been for finding just the thing on Heathcote electronics I am not sure I would ever have tackled it. It does badly need doing though, because I don't run trains as much as I might because it's such a test of memory to know where the trains are going to go! Happy New Year. Stephen
Merry Christmas, Stephen! I love your steam locos. I was impressed with how you dealt with the valve gear for your little beauty. Bachmann likely reuses many parts, from model to model.
@@jamescraft672 Thanks very much James. It was great to get the loco running again. On reflection I am not sure why I didn’t contact Bachmann sooner. Their service department is always very helpful. Hope you have a good time over the festive season. Stephen
Great bumper episode there Stephen, lots of brilliant repairs, changes and plans. Strangely I had to repair my A1 Blue Peter as one part of the linkage had detatched, I just glued it back and gratefully it 'seems' ok. (I type very quietly, hoping not to be noticed, lol). One step at a time with the control panel, you'll get there. The things we do for our simple enjoyment ay? Trying to rewire my OO gauge peckett now, total strip down to get to solder points, oh well. Merry Christmas and just enjoy!
Thanks John. Quiet typing is usually safe. it is amazing the skills you need to develop, and mechanical engineering is now added to my skills list. The control panel will be a fair amount of wiring but as you say so long as I approach it one step at a time it will all get done. It will be so much better than I have. Have a good time over Christmas Stephen
Good afternoon Stephen, that was well worth the wait. I must confess that I doubt very much that I could consider effecting repair on a loco in the manner undertaken by yourself... 'fiddly' doesn't cover it. The work around the new war memorial and the addition of the kiosk is really super, and it's now calling out for some intensely detailed cameos. I continue to be intrigued by your 'diversion' to the London Underground and I am following this with keen interest. Thank you so much for sharing, have a blessed Christmas and a healthy, fun-filled, modelling New Year!
Thanks very much Donald. It is very fiddly but then so is a lot of n scale modelling. It does make you think that moving to O gauge would be quite a good idea! I'm looking forward to getting on with detailing. I think it's the same with putting scenic material that it really does need much more than you think to make any impression. Hope you have a great time over the festive period. Stephen

Hi Stephen - a bumper edition indeed ! What a coincidence in that I was talking to Heathcote Electronics earlier today, seeking advice on how to wire two feathers on the same signal. You're right about Absolute Signals and CR Signals only making overground Signals. However CR Signals can supply signal heads only. A 2 aspect head only is £16. The hoods are plastic so you should be able to cut off the overhang. It would take away the issue of how to mount the LED's. Looking forward to the control panel build - you will have a lot of wiring inside the panel if my panels are anything to go by 😅. Great running session. I missed the Paisley show this year due to unavoidable family commitments - it would have been great to have met up for a catch up. Happy Christmas to you and your family - hope we can meet up at some point next year 😊 cheers Euan
Thanks Euan. I hadn't heard of Heathcote until the National Treasure told me about the company. The range of things he makes really does make all sorts tricky things straightforward. thanks for the mention of the CR Signals. I didn't see the load more button. I will get a couple of sets of the signal heads. They will provide a much better base than trying to build my own. I hope to get to more model railway shows in Scotland this year. I will be at MRS on the Friday as usual, which is only 9 weeks now, so we may meet there. Hope you and your wife have a great time over the festive season. Steohen
Hi Stephen. I wish I had realised you were putting in signals and blocks for the underground layout. It would have been a great project to work on with you. May I suggest looking at Kytes Lights for some possibly smaller nano LED's. I have used them in the past to make signals. Another great video. Looking forward to seeing what the New Year brings for you. Happy Christmas. All the best Allan
Hi Allen. The idea to put blocks and signals only really came to me when I saw what Heathcote's kit could do. Thanks for the advice on the nano LEDs. I will get some and take a look. Merry Christmas Stephen
Hi Stephen! That was some great thinking to fix the running gear by using parts from a similar loco! Good to know that although you angered the modelling Gods, you also appeased them! The plans for the underground seem to be coming along nicely, and it's great that you've found an electronic solution for the shuttle service that also includes lighting facilities! The control panel looks like it's going to be a very big job to replace, but I have every confidence that you'll come up with a fantastic solution! It's interesting that you don't want to go down the DCC route of controlling points, as that's what I'm going to do! I agree, while handheld controllers are great for controlling trains, they're awful for switching accessories! I intend to have some sort of graphical interface, such as iTrain or JMRI by the time I need to switch points in anger, and I'll do it via a tablet or a laptop! I actually quite like the idea of writing some code to do it myself, but I'll see how good the proprietary options are first! I very much enjoyed this bumper edition, and look forward to the next! But in the meantime, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year! All the best, Ian.
@@iansngauge Hi Ian and thanks. It was good to discover that some parts are shared, and with hindsight, if I had called Bachmann I might have learnt that sooner. I do hope the modelling Gods are sated for the time being. I’ve had quite enough of their shenanigans especially with all the wiring I’m going to be doing. I am looking forward to getting not done.
