I’ve been using it since the beta version and it’s great!! We have a family member living abroad and it’s awesome to bring the whole family together on the big screen :)

The Apple TV needs to come with a version that has a camera built in. This is way too many steps. Imagine a regular phone call back in the day had 7 steps to make a call. No one would be using phones.@@JTech22

I’ve been wanting this for years and it’s finally here! It would be so cool to have a dedicated webcam on the TV though.
Yeah I'll wait for the Apple TV to come with a camera before I'll use this. This is way too complicated. It would be easier just to do the call on the phone, if you have to go on there to go through the setup process each time. On the phone it's 1 step to make a FaceTime call, on the TV it's like 7, and then you still have to use your phone.
The answer will be the VR headset. I think that will make FT magically fun.
Wish it was also available for Apple TV 4K first generation but you know, whatever.
Very nice for family reunions more on holidays but definitely the setup is not Senior friendly. Will be 1000% more easy if the new Apple TV come with camera integrated 🎥
A cool thing that I discovered is you can change the microphone audio modes when using FaceTime on the Apple TV. Just go click the continuity setting icon in the control center on the Apple TV.
To all the people who have issues connecting to FaceTime. You’re not alone this is a widespread issue and a lot of people have been contacting Apple support about this with no resolution because it’s a software issue. Hopefully it will be addressed in the next TVOS and iOS/iPadOS update.
Tried it a number of times. It’s really buggy and didn’t work after connected. This was the same for both iPad and iPhone.

Please fix Apple TV FaceTime ‘no user’ issue where ot doesn’t show any user’ . Seems to be impacting users who changed their Apple ID…?
I've been pulling my hair out trying to get this to work with family overseas. We just can't seem to get it up and running on both TV's. It needs to just work automatically. With all the steps, it's too hard for older people to figure out.
I wonder how many people would use this feature. Seems good for large scale calls but still a good feature nonetheless

In your demo you show widescreen video, but whenever I do a call I'm not seeing the person I am calling in widescreen even when they change the orientation of their iphone and are in landscape. I'm shown in the preview as widescreen.
mine is working perfectly fine, not sure why it's showing like that for you. Give Apple Support a call
I can't figure out why resolution on tv when connected to 1 other is like 4x3 on the TV. We are all on IOS 17.
We need that AI feature “eye contact” because the iPhone stay below the camera anda we can’t look straight to camera. Tks

This is so great, now I might actually buy a tv, I already Apple tv+ on all my Apple Devices, I think I’ll just get one of these TVs now, I feel like 📺 actually used to be super cool, and now that we have way cooler screens all around us all I ever do is go on my phone and other cool devices, but having my friends life size on any big screen that I want in the house for everyone to be there, and now we have Centre Stage on devices as well(the thing that centres yourself into the frame wherever you are so that it really feels like they’re life size in the room), super cool anyway.
I’ll probably get one of these (an Apple TV I mean, because another benefit is that my iPhones Front Camera the one that I can shoot photos with, that has literally such good image quality, and I have the iPhone 12 ✨👌🤩

Can we please have the option to answer a call on Apple TV? The way it is now, there is no way for two people to be using FaceTime both on Apple TVs.
I still don’t understand why Apple hasn’t created a standalone camera that works with Apple TV similar to Facebook Portal to enable this in a much easier manner
Please add a Apple TV remote button action to quickly mute and unmute during FaceTime that doesn’t require you to select mute first with the touchpad/buttons

Almost all tvs have cameras built in now, but you can’t access the feed.

how do you disable "center stage" I had a zoom dance lesson today and I need the camera to get my whole body not just my face! 😭I didn't know how to do it so I just ended up using the zoom app on my phone and mirroring it to my AppleTV! 😭

Have iPhone 14 Pro Max running iOS 17 and latest 4K Apple TV and call fails every time. Looking forward to an update to fix this

But then when I'm speaking, I'd be looking at the TV, not my phone. There's this sort of disconnect. The person on the other end would think we're not paying attention to them. Would be nice to have a cam on the TV.

My Apple tv is 4K and I updated it to latest update tvOS 17 and my iPhone to iOS 17 and yet FaceTime is not showing although it is available on my iPhone? Am I missing something?

Hey Apple, this is a nice feature. Though it has way to many steps to have a FaceTime call. It should just be: Incoming call on IPhone/ Ipad/ Mac, it appears on the TV via Apple TV too. You can answer and decline on to and on your phone
I totally agree! It seems there is no way to receive a facetime call directly on the apple tv. You have to receive it on your iPhone or iPad first and then transfer it/hand off to Apple tv. Totally lame.
However, you can call out directly from the apple tv (with your phone camera already set up, etc. ahead of time).
I can connect but there is absolutely no sound as I am using Sonos surround system. Will this be fixed ?

As it turns out, the 1st generation Apple TV 4K is not able to use the FaceTime app. This can happen with older devices not able to work with certain apps or features.

You can use Continuity Camera on the Apple TV too so you can FaceTime with someone and it works when you have everything like iPad and iPhone or iPadOS 17 or iOS 17 when the Apple TV is Apple TVos17

I get video but absolutely no audio playback. The other person can hear me just fine but I cannot hear them. Outside of FaceTime audio works as it should on the ATV so I’m not sure what’s going on here.

Rediculous that this feature was left out on the 4K version 1. Shame on you Apple!
It might be Bluetooth limitations since 4K v1 only has Bluetooth 4.0 while the v2 has 5.0.

When i call my partner, it’s always 3x active users when there’s only two of us. Always 3x active windows so I never get a fullscreen call.
Ok now tell me how to disconnect my phone from the Apple TV FaceTime App… my dad used my phone as an example of “how cool it was” but when it didn’t work I wanted to disconnect my iPhone
However apparently there’s no option to do so and now every time I am remotely close to my house my Screen automatically goes to FaceTime asking “Do you want to disconnect or use the app” I press disconnect and it reappears when I enter my home 1-2 minutes later… now I can’t move around my house without getting a headache from the Ping sound 😭

Everyone? They are not expensive at all and completely worth it. The best streaming device out there and has been for years.
It’s time to release an Apple TV Pro 8K. We need 4K @ 120 Hz and 8K@60 and 10 Gbe ethernet.
There’s no point to have an 8k machine if there’s no content or tv that supports it. I do agree about 4k 120hz, or vrr for arcade games.

Bogus. Updated both 2nd & 3rd Gen 4k apple tvs neither have the facetime app and still show apple movies app. Lame. No I'm not going to factory reset and update losing all of my tvs settings. Typical junk apple software.
