I just got my SI in sonic gray Pearl and I can tell you that the suspension is very stiff, but the car handle like a champion, I just hit the 50 Miles journey greetings from the sunny south Florida 🌞
Awesome choice of colour I was stuck between sonic gray and blazing orange, the dealer just happened to get this one first so I took it. You're right these cars handle great, I appreciate you checking out the channel
Great context and details information about your new 22' Si. Hopefully, aftermarket parts will be available for this car someday. I love the car being stiff a like my 94 Honda Accord with the aftermarket parts that my car run smooth, controllably, more firm, etc at high speed. Love it! Good luck and look forward to you next video.
You mention wanting a ~350 HP daily. I ask, why not go for a Type R instead of an Si? I know some people like to mod/tinker, and maybe cost is an issue to (big up front cost vs mods over time). Curious to hear your rational. Enjoying the content as a fellow Canadian and prospective Si buyer.
I personally like the styling of the sedan over the hatch so far (waiting to see the 11th R) and I had to jump on the trade offer the dealership gave me since the used market is through the roof and I didn’t know how long that was going to last. I also enjoy modding the car, it’s always been a hobby of mine!
Because a CTR looks weird, and it costs like $20-$35k+ more for a used one lol. You can make the new ‘22 Si way faster than a CTR for the price of a stock CTR. They’re both FWD, so you’re not really getting much more performance with the CTR anyways.
Cold weather question for 'ya! it gets just as cold in Minnesota as you say it does for you where you are, and I'm curious how effective the car is at heating the cabin with the 1.5L engine. For whatever reason, every Honda I've been in that has a 1.9L engine or smaller seems to struggle with generating enough heat to warm up the cabin quickly and effectively, whether it's an R18, L15B7, etc... Maybe they've improved on that this generation? Great to some authentic review and opinions of long term ownership. I'll have to keep in mind the stiff suspension too when it comes to our cold months. Thanks again!
Looking back I don’t remember if the cabin heating was much of an issue, that being said during the winter I used the truck 90% of the time. I’d do a test drive and see for yourself during a cold start to be sure
W/M does make a big difference. Had it on my Mk5 GTI with 93 octane. Didn’t have enough injector to run E85 with the GT3071 lol. Are you going to upgrade to poly engine mounts too? That was one of my favorite modifications with everything else. Also not sure if the throttle body pipe has a “pancake” bottleneck like my GTI did. I gained a lot of midrange with the TB pipe.
Regarding the clutch not slipping this time, if anything, I’ll bet it didn’t this time because you did a couple of pulls and warmed it up (not extreme heat). I say this because my GTI had the stock clutch slip at 20k with APR Stg 2 (230ish whp on a Mustang dyno, 255ish wtq) at lower rpms 2500-3000 like you said. But that only happened when it was super cold out or when I was only driving the car for 10 minutes in the cold. Stock map, no slip. But then after a few rips? No slip. My theory? The clutch disc expanded ever so slightly to grip the pressure plate more with being warmed up and was contracted when cold. Regardless, I changed my driving habits and never did low rpm pulls (started to go WOT at 3000 or higher) except for dyno and logging. That stock clutch lasted me until 120k when I went K04. On highways and to overtake cars, I’d downshift a couple gears just as an automatic does.
If tuned for it, I definitely see big potential gains! I'll probably grab a 62A Hasport rear mount to start and later on finish it off with the rest of their mounts
@ the comments about hard ride when its cold, I've accepted this as normal. I haven't owned a car that doesn't get harsher ride in the cold temps ( Minnesota )
Mark ups for the new SI in Ohio are at least $3k to $5k over msrp. Would you wait a while to see if the mark ups come down, or go ahead and pay above sticker price?
I’d personally wait, I’d never pay over msrp since it’s the dealership just trying to take advantage of customers. I’m just lucky enough that they’re not allowed to sell over msrp here in Canada
Look further and further away till you find a decent price. Everywhere around me was charging at least $5k above msrp. I found one in the color I wanted for $1500 above msrp, but included tinted windows and the all weather package. Had to drive 2 hours but left with the Si! If you're waiting for prices to come down in your city don't hold your breathm
losing my mind with Android Auto on my 22 SI - Google Pixel 5a - gonna try some new cables and to reconnect. Bluetooth audio works, but my GPS constantly drops out on wireless, and wired is intermittent...hopefully can solve this issue its driving me nuts. Good car though!
Waiting for my 11 gen I already have some goodies, I have plans to install the H&R ir swift springs my experience with the eibach in the 10 gen was terrible, to much sag in the back and weird sounds in the rear control arms, I believe was for the lack of insulation, reach out the guys from unity performance they are located in Ontario Canada pretty nice guys willing to do good business.
I had an 8th gen Si sedan, great car but the usual poor Honda sound insulation and marginally compliant ride so I switched to a Mk6 GTI, better daily. I fail to see how lowering springs will help the stiff ride, the reduced travel/compliance will likely make it worse?
It's definitely going to make it worse, but it seems to a lot better in warmer conditions.. its pretty noticeable so hopefully it won't be too bad on springs
Great review man and seems like a great car. Quick question, how does it compare to other small but Rwd manual sedans like the G37 or 3 series? I was afraid that the experience would'nt be as fun without rwd.
I wouldn't consider it a fair comparison, they're pretty heavy cars so it depends what 3 series you'd be interested in but this car is tons of fun around town, backroads, any type of spirited driving it's great to throw around and keep momentum throughout the turns but if you want strict straight line performance it won't be as fun as a G37 or 340I
@@MitchMc91 good to know.. I think you made a wise decision buying this. It's a lot of car for the money. Even with the similarly designed Integra manual coming out, it's fairly close in features for a much better value (at least in Canada). I definitely think it will depreciate very well.
I don't know but i feel you regret getting it ? you said the suspension is stiff on cold whether, how cold that could be please? thanks for sharing your experience
Below 32f, it wasn’t too bad of an issue and I definitely didn’t regret it. It’s the best daily for the money in my opinion it does everything so well. I ended up selling it and getting the 11thgen CTR, I love this platform
I remember there was an account with a red Si with the PRL turbo kit. Also from Canada with the accent, lol. Was that you? I can't find those videos no more lol.
That was my buddy’s channel budget racing it got hacked unfortunately and they had to restart but yeah that was my car ahaha… good catch! I’m impressed
coming from a 8th gen( which i regret selling) im looking to get a 11th gen. but my issue is compared to a GTI it is under powered. im also loving the GTI, but reliability does not compare hence why im looking at a honda again. does anyone think these can make 300whp safely on stock turbo?
I think it’ll be close if you plan on running E30, I’ve seen 10ths hit as high as 280-290whp on the stock turbo and I think this turbo has a little more headroom in it so I can see it breaking the 300whp barrier
Would you say the TSP Ktuner tune is worth getting ? Or are the tunes straight from ktuner just about as good ? I'm trying to decide if I should purchase a ktuner directly from TSP or buy a used one for much cheaper and just use the ktuner tunes. What is your opinion on tune comparison?
The Ktuner maps are really good, but the TSP map has a slight edge in my opinion. Both make enough torque to slip the clutch so it depends... if you think you'll get into upgrading the clutch I'd get the TSP
@@MitchMc91 Yeah I ended up ordering it from TSP. Been running the 22 PSI tune with early spool enabled and Holy F!! Such a big difference over stock! So happy with KTuner! Can't wait for TSP to send the Stage 1 tune whenever its ready. I see some clutches are out now but I'm waiting on the retro kit to come out. Def my next purchase, picked up the intake and downpipe already and both are well worth the money!
I just got it and have 600km but I'm getting like 10L/100km and that's a lot worse than stated. I don't redline as it's still in break-in period and drive quite civilized, any idea why? Just break in period?
Re: the springs, I chatted with Eibach and they said the same thing with their testing of the 10th gen springs on the 11th gen, so they will be releasing 11th gen specific springs in the next few months
I had a PRL turbo kit on my 10thgen SI and that thing was lifting the head, I had no clue until afterward the fact wondering why I had to do the head gasket twice
I was trying to wait for my exterior parts to come in first before ordering but my wheels are taking way too long so I may have to start ordering boltons now
