I never knew Joe Palma filled in for Shemp. I was the only one in my neighborhood who like Shemp as their favorite 3 stooge. Your videos are very informative.
I read somewhere that Joe Palma was used...but had never saw the shorts!! Thank you for pointing them out in greater detail 🙂 Everyone is always asked who their favorite Stooge was...I liked them all in their own way...but Curly just had that something special!!!

The eye catching fonts, the amazing old time film strip frame and tint, all combined with the always great photos and highly researched and detailed subject information! Had know idea Joe stood in for Shemp after he passed with the way the scenes were filmed you don't notice and just perceive it as Shemp, no reason to be in doubt.
They dubbed in Shemp's voice when Joe Palma was being chased around in the Santa suit just before they lept out the window. Kinda of odd hearing "Moe, Larry help!", then Joe yelling "Oh!!! Yipe!" trying to sound like Shemp.
It was a stroke that resulted in Curly’s departure from the Stooges. He could not physically perform any longer and in fact was housed in a care facility for a time before he passed.
Great video Rick! “ The Boys “ were short in stature, averaging between 5’4” and 5’5” and complemented each other quite well. Joe Palma, who had worked with them for years as a “heavy”… Stood at 5’10”,and when he shared a scene with the Stooges,he had to crouch down…. Imagine what it was like to do a scene with an actor ,and pretend he was a partner, or in Moe’s case,a brother. That must have killed them both… Many people are critical that when they view a Stooge movie, ,that they had “ just scene this part “ in a previous short. Remember when they were first released, they were spaced years apart,as shown with a Columbia full length feature, so the chances are you wouldn’t notice. When released to television,it was easier to spot the repeats…as always Rick, keep up the great work and keeping the memories of the Stooges alive.
You’re right! And these are essentially short movies people went to see in the theater so these jokes and scenes still do not go stale. They are Still hilarious. There were no reruns and it was unlikely most saw every single short in the theater. So reusing jokes it OK with me 😀
Many years ago I saw an interview with Moe, Larry, Joe Palma and Joe Besser. I cannot remember whether it was Johnny Carsons the tonight show or not but I remember the deep sadness in Moe's eyes when talking about Shemp and Curly. That's when I found out they were brothers.
I just love this stuff. Growing up watching these guys with my dad was some of the best times i ever had. Joe was a good sport to put up with all the never seeing his face.
Joe Palma aka Fake Shemp did the best he could since they were literally shorthanded due to Shemp's earthly departure. Curly may have been everyone's favorite Stooge, but with me, it's Shemp because he was his own man! I thought it was nice to have a scene with both the Howard brothers and Larry with Curly on the train.
I must say you're one of the few RUclips posters who truly give us information we never would get. Your research and upload truly is insightful info that many or most of us don't have the time to study. Thanks for posting this! I would never have known how they covered the death of Moe's brother Shemp without your channel. I am NOW a proud SUBSCRIBER!
I've been a Stooge fan since I was a child. Joe did a good job as the "Fake Shemp". . .I think Shemp was underrated .. he was a real comedic Gem!..Steve
Rick, You never cease to amaze me! I had NO idea there even was a Fake Shemp! As it turns out, toward the end of his career, JOE Palma played uncredited roles in 2 of my favorite '60's comedies: "The Great Race" and "The Odd Couple." Cheers!
No way! It does surprise me that you and other hard-core fans have never heard of it. I have known for some time but have reluctantly chosen to cover it because I thought it would be too obvious for some people. No shame in not knowing but it’s great to know that I can teach people who are great found something new.
The "three Joes", then! Never knew about this fill in! Then Besser, then Darita! I also heard that Moe Howard wanted to go on in the 70s but at that point he was much older and not in such great health anymore and neither was Larry. They died pretty close together in time I believe!
I wondered why those shows had Shemp obscured at time! Now I see it was because he passed and Actor Joe Palma was standing in. Thanks for the information! 😊👍🏻
I sure hope Larry & Joe were able to support Moe during these tough times. I can't imagine what that must've been like having to pretend Shemp were still around, It must've been rough. I'm glad he managed.
Another excellent job Rick and I agree with Randy's comment, you did a wonderful job with your research. Fascinating how the producers could put together 4 shorts of the Stooges when one of the three had passed.
Robert Holmberg-Nope. The contract the boys signed for the 1956 season stipulated that they make eight shorts, but only four were finished at the time Shemp died, so Columbia hired Joe Palma to double for Shemp, thus completing the boys' contract. Moe initially had wanted Joe DeRita as third Stooge, but he was unavailable, so Columbia hired Joe Besser to finish their tenure for the studio, before being fired. Curly Joe was hired to take Joe's place after his wife became ill, and he left the act to care for her.
@@kevinmiller6380 This is a much more accurate account of the changeover from Shemp. I think Rick needs to do a little more research before posting these vids.
At 8:38 that was not Christine McIntire with Kenneth MacDonald, but a body double, as she had retired from acting in 1955. Plus, the clip from Scheming Schemers had Moe and Larry watching K-Mac's character shoving the painting inside the pipe; in the original, it was Shemp who saw this.
My favorite "3rd" Stooge is Curly, but the rest of them that filled out the trio certainly did an excellent job. Moe was the survivor of them all. Though it was certainly sad for him that he endured the illnesses and death of his brothers, and the other fellows like Joe that filled out the troop, it was really nice that he went on the TV variety shows to talk about the old times, and sometimes even do a pie throwing skit.
Not sure what you mean by Moe was the survivor of them all? Every picture that had Moe also had Larry. In terms of who lived longer, that would be Joe Besser and Joe Derita respectively.
Yes I meant the last of the brothers. I am perhaps more forgiving of the differences in the others that filled out the 3rd position. No one is a clone of the others, and each brought their own personality, even Joe Besser.. They all got on with the show and made people laugh.
I only heard about the fake Shemp after I got access to the internet. Otherwise I would have never known that a fake Shemp played the role of the real actor. Thanks for for sharing the information.
I was one of those kids that watched the three stooges every day. When I got home from school in the 1950's. I would watch the Officer Joe Bolton show on WPIX. He wore a police officer's uniform and I actually believed that he was a New York City Police Officer. And then later on (in the evening), I would see him(Joe Bolton) doing the channel 11 weather(sponsored by Tasty cakes) I grew up in Bridgeport, Connecticut . And I am proud to say that I am a retired high school social studies teacher in Connecticut. But meanwhile, back to Shemp. The humor with Curly was classic and funny. But with Shemp, it was very funny, very rough and sometimes sadistic. Now(when I watch him) it seems like, he would do anything to make a scene work. I have seen these episodes (above) recently on TV land. They(the cutting room people) did a great job, fooling the public( especially us kids in the 50's, lol).( Fake Shemp)(Joe who?)I guess he goes in the closet,(with Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny )Thank you Mr. Nineg, for your insights and discussions about 1950' s and 1960's television and films. Do I want to win the DVD giveaway? In the words of Isaac Hayes, who sang, composed and wrote the music, for the movie ,"Shaft". "DAMN RIGHT".
Yep! As a kid, I also loved and watched the 3 Stooges And Officer Joe Bolton on WPIX NY. And those Tasty Cakes sponsors…3 cupcakes in a package, I think, or was it 4? I can see those chocolate cupcakes thru the clear celephane now. It was one wide continuous frosting, rather than each cupcake being frosted individually. Hmm, I guess I was a “foodie” as a kid, too!! Haha. I loved that extra bit of chocolate frosting! LOL. I digress, yep I was and am a Stooges fan.
@@markdeimel4869 No, I don’t recall, altho, I remember Sandy Becker. But, I DID WATCH WONDERAMA!! The host was Sonny Fox. It was on Sunday mornings. My friend’s Mom got tix, and we went to the show!! There was a segment where a few kids were picked to sit on the couch, maybe 4 or 5 kids, and talk with Sonny Fox. I was picked, so I got to be there. I had been in a couple of fashion shows at Gertz Dept Stores (Jamaica and Hicksville, NY) and so Sonny Fox asked me to demonstrate walking as a model when I was in the show. I was about 6 years old. I think my parents must have told all my relatives to watch the show on the air date!! LOL. I do recall two of the cool gifts every kid got when we all left the TV studio: a box of Bazooka Bubble gum-I was thrilled !! LOL And, a very cool notebook that was a bit like a clip-board, sort of, because you held it vertically and opened the hard cover vertically AND, it had a very cool, never-seen-before, hidden pencil case at the inside top, which could hold about two pencils, and it had a magnetic closure. It was really very cool. And, if by some miracle, my childhood friend is reading this, hello Deb S. Her Mom J.S. Got the tickets. I do recall the dress I wore to the show-it had a watermelon pocket!! Loved that dress!
Gonna be honest, I didn’t expect a video on Fake Shemp, but I’m glad to see it and to find out who Fake Shemp was. Thank you for the video Rick, keep up the great work!
Curly actually joined while they were still with Healy, a year before they went out on their own. They were under contract at MGM during that time. It's interesting to note how much of that material they would use at Columbia! They had been remaking or reworking earlier Shemp shorts for a couple of years prior to his death. I always wondered if the public was aware at the time. Great work as always, Rick!
@@ScottGrammer they also made 4 other shorts that year (in addition to movie appearances). The best was 'Beer and Pretzels". On my DVR I have one of the other three that aired on TCM recently, "Plane Nuts".
Great video as usual, Rick! I watched all the Three Stooges shorts when I was growing up, and I didn't know Joe DePalma was used in Shemp's place. One thing I did notice as a kid was a lot of re-use of old scenes and remakes.
I feel that The Three Stooges were underappreciated... they went through so much stuff, for the studios... it's hard for Moe and Larry to continue, without Curly , without Shemp
It must have been REALLY painful for Moe and Larry to pretend that Shemp was still there and continue on like business as usual like nothing happened...😔
@@ricknineg yes.. but back then, it was common for people to be dying and suffereing because of wars, diseases, etc. Diseases and conditions which are now treatable used to be crippling and fatal. I grew up watching the Stooges on my local Pittsburgh television station, WTAE Channel 4. It's host appeared in the Stooges western film in the early 1960's, (as did most of the hosts from around the country that had essentially brought the Stooges back to popularity). The "gimmick" for the film was that all of these TV hosts would have a small scene in the film and would then be able to engage the kids in the audience to come to the movie theater and see, not only the Stooges, but the host as well.
Picked up on the "fake Shemp" years ago always wondered why this "Shemp" had his face covered and didn't sound just right the few bits he was supposed to talk. Another telltale clue is that both Moe and Larry are noticeably older in the new scenes when spliced in with the old footage.
Having watched all of these shorts as a kid, I never noticed (nor would have thought) that someone named Joe was standing in for Shemp after he had died. Watching them now, it's almost obvious, especially with the re-used footage. But, then again, who would have thought that 80 years later we would be re-watching and dissecting these either!
"Fake Shemp" is a common term for a stand-in for an actor that starts filming but leaves or passes away during the production. Bruce Lee in Game of Death, Heather O'Roarke in Poltergeist 3, and Paul Walker are great examples. The most infamous was Bela Lugosi in Plan 9. He died during the movie and was replaced by the director's dentist.
Back yonder, the idea of a rerun, copies landing in private collections (you,.me, anyone) or even enhancing the visuals was not even thought of so at the time, reusing old footage from previous shorts was easily fooled. Only the most of die hard Stooges fans, who was alive from short one onward and has great memories would know that repeats of old shorts was being used in the later years. Of course, film quality in the 50s would be way better technology than film the world had in the 30s so a good eye could catch the difference in scene quality.
Unless they used old film tech from the 1930's or 1940's that was cheap to get in 1950 and used the same film as 1950's as in same size and worked in the cameras or they used a special lens that made something look old and worn from 20 years earlier but made recently in the 1950's.
Well never knew this I loved three stooges well never knew there was a fake shemp well learn something new everyday he was exposed interesting facts thanks for sharing Rick great video 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
The thing which surprised me the most was how little of Fake Shemp there actually was in these shorts. It seems like they consisted of mostly old footage plus scenes with Moe and Larry only.
Great video. I am a Stooges fan from way back and have that DVD set and love it. During the pandemic I watched them in order from the very first one up to the solo shorts of Shemp, Joe Besser and DeRita. I recommend watching those as well. I know most people are fans of the trio when Curly was the 3rd stooge. Comparing each incarnation is like trying to compare different types of apples. Each brought their own style to being a 3rd Stooge and the dynamics of the trio changes each time. Even in my younger days I knew there was a stand in for Shemp in those remakes. It had to be hard on both Moe and Larry trying to get through the filming of them, much like Half-Wits Holiday, where Curly had a stroke on set and they had to finish it without him.
My Father and I watched most of the Three Stooges shorts, and i was so confused on which the original Joe Was...Thanks For doing this video. It makes perfect sense Now Rick.
I had never heard the term Fake Shemp. Another really interesting video! Malice in the Palace is one of my very favorites. Still cracks me up when I see it!😂And I adored Shemp, he was my favorite Stooge.❤️ 👍👍👍👍
When I was a kid, my parents had an old vhs tape that had both “Dunked in the Deep” and “Commotion on the Ocean”. I always wondered why the 2 were basically the same thing. Now I know! I had no idea that there was a fake Shemp. Joe was fairly convincing as a stand-in. Awesome video.
I was a kid when the Stooges were at their peak. I had no clue that anything was wrong. I had no idea that Joe Palma was not the real Shemp. I however have known the full stoy of the Three Stoges for decades but still found the video refreshed in my mind that knowledge. Thank you.
In the Evil Dead movies they sometimes subbed a different actor in for later reshoots. In his book Bruce Campbell refers to the practice as "Shemping."
Thank you so much for this video. I've seen "Fake Shemp" discussed before, but never in this much detail. Now I know his name was Joe Palma. So interesting to learn exactly how they finished the last four remaining shorts that The Three Stooges were contracted for at the time. I'm a big Shemp fan. In all honesty I enjoyed *all* of the Stooges including Joe Besser and Joe DeRita. But Shemp brought something version special to the act. Thanks again for this video and for the giveaway. An average Joe like me really appreciates it. (There! Have I mentioned the name "Joe" enough times?) Blessings to you!
They were professionals through and through and the quality of their performances were exceptional as always. But it must have hurt, for sure….even saying his name
I can remember watching these at my grandmother's house on 8mm. We would watch a different 3 stooges era every weekend. I never realized that Joe wasn't Shemp in those shorts
Thanks Rick for showing me that Samuel " Shemp Howard " Horowitz had a double " named JOE PLAMA. " " JOE. " I always knew that there was a double of Shemp but now you have put a name to him. Thanks for making these videos. I really do appreciate all the facts you uncover about alot of my favorite shows that I used to watch growing up the late 60's.
I remember reading about the "dead Shemp" episodes years ago and always looked out for the ones where Joe was onscreen. I did notice he was usually facing away from the camera and would rush off screen after a few seconds leaving Larry and Moe to finish the episode. He was also much taller so he's usually stooped over. Great video!
To see another great shot of Joe Palma, check out the 3 Stooges short called "If a Body Meets a Body". This short has Curly in it. Joe Palma's the maid the Stooges run into near the end of the short. Notice how he towers over them when he stands up.
I grew up with these as a kid and they are absolutely wonderful. People completely underestimate how business smart The Stooges were. They weren't just your average 'Joe'.
Joe Palma also played the convict that Curly was gonna punch in the nose but accidentally knocked out the warden in one of Curly's latest shorts "Beer Barrel Polecats"
Growing up I used to watch the Stooges daily on television. I noticed that some were re-edited older shorts and thought the television station had done it.
It always depressed me to think that during the filming of these Fake Shemp shorts, in order to splice in archival footage of the real Shemp, Moe was forced to say lines like, "Hey Larry, where's Shemp?" knowing full well that his brother was sealed up in a crypt at the Home of Peace Cemetery.
As a Stooges fan, I did know about Joe Palma being used as a stand-in for Shemp for four shorts. But aside from Hot Stuff, he was always seen from the back, or he covered his face in some manner. And his lines were simply dubbed over from previous shorts. Again, Hot Stuff was the exception to all of these.
My younger brother and myself were big stooges fans ( he passed this year). He had an enormous set of shorts and movies of the stooges and we would watch them and talk about the stooges when ever we got together (I lived 500 miles away). But we never talked about Joe Palma and knew nothing about "fake Shemp". This has been very enlightening. Too bad Wally is no longer here to enjoy this with me.
Correction: Curly was already a part of the act before they made the Columbia shorts. He was one of Ted Healy and His Stooges and had already done films with them.
A fascinating look at Joe, the "fake Shemp" story about The 3 Stooges. At least the deception was better than the one Ed Wood tried to pull off after the death of Bela Lugosi while filming Plan 9 From Outer Space.
It must have been pretty heartbreaking for Moe when they had to make those four shorts, I’m sure it hurts for Moe ( who lost two of his brothers in three years) and Larry. I can’t imagine how sorry Joe Palma felt when he had to be dressed up like Shemp
I've been a fan of the Stooges since my very first introduction to them back in 1963. My parents weren't exactly thrilled with my "addiction". Moe, Larry, and Curly were my favorites. When they brought on Curly-Joe, my interest started to wane, as I thought he was severely mis-cast. It took some time for me to accept Shemp as an actual Stooge, but he eventually grew on me. I had NO IDEA there was a "fake Shemp" until seeing the video! Joe Palma did a pretty good job of filling in the blank spots where "real Shemp" should have been! THANK YOU rick nineg for the educational and entertaining videos. Keep them coming!
The fellow who doubled for Bela Lugosi in _Plan 9 From Outer Space_ is of course history's other "Fake Shemp", though the footage of Bela in that film was previously unseen.
I grew up totally oblivious to this conspiracy but now I know. Thank you. Now I have to spread the word to my friends. I'm sure that whoever your favorite Stooge is, it has an impact on who you are today. "Quick- give him some cheese. His uncle was a rat!" nyuk nyuk nyuk

Another fact gem about Joe Palma; didn't realize how much sadness Moe had to endure with the loss of two brothers to still keep the laughter going;
Same thing i always say

I just love this stuff. Growing up watching these guys with my dad was some of the best times i ever had. Joe was a good sport to put up with all the never seeing his face.
Joe Palma aka Fake Shemp did the best he could since they were literally shorthanded due to Shemp's earthly departure. Curly may have been everyone's favorite Stooge, but with me, it's Shemp because he was his own man! I thought it was nice to have a scene with both the Howard brothers and Larry with Curly on the train.
I’m a Shemp guy as well. Those glasses he wore 👓 haha
Thanks so nice of you to say, Kwami ! I always strive to bring you all what I enjoy and the best quality I can provide. Much appreciated!
I've been a Stooge fan since I was a child. Joe did a good job as the "Fake Shemp". . .I think Shemp was underrated .. he was a real comedic Gem!..Steve
Rick,
You never cease to amaze me!
I had NO idea there even was a Fake Shemp!
As it turns out, toward the end of his career, JOE Palma played uncredited roles in 2 of my favorite '60's comedies: "The Great Race" and "The Odd Couple."
Cheers!
I love that short with the spiced together one . I laugh hard each time I see it as the guy takes a bite of his food the cat meows and purrs .
I wondered why those shows had Shemp obscured at time!
Now I see it was because he passed and Actor Joe Palma was standing in.
Thanks for the information! 😊👍🏻
You got it! Thanks for the support
Just when I thought I knew a lot about the changes in the Stooges and Shemp. I have not heard of Joe Palma and him being a "Fake Shemp"
I didn't know about about JOE PALMA The fake Shemp! I love Shemp, That noise he made with his lips still always makes me laugh. :)
Thank you kIndly!
I never knew that Joe Palma stood in for Shemp after Shemp tragically passed away. I just thought that Moe went right to Joe Besser
@@mikegee8875 I believe he meant Moe was the last surviving brother
Joe Besser didn’t do an excellent job
Yes I meant the last of the brothers. I am perhaps more forgiving of the differences in the others that filled out the 3rd position. No one is a clone of the others, and each brought their own personality, even Joe Besser.. They all got on with the show and made people laugh.
@@jenniferwhitewolf3784 Yes. Funny thing is in the song Curly Shuffle by Jump in the Saddle they refer to Joe DeRita as fat clone Joe.
I had no idea that this was done. I love The Stooges comedy shorts and Joe helped them when they needed a replacement.
Pretty incredible!
I only heard about the fake Shemp after I got access to the internet. Otherwise I would have never known that a fake Shemp played the role of the real actor. Thanks for for sharing the information.
I actually felt bad for Moe and Larry because they pretended that Shemp was still with them. Screw Columbia and Screw Harry Cohn.
Jessica Mendoza-Atta girl. 👍😄😄😄😄😄😄
Kevin Miller Thanks
Wow. I never knew about Joe and “Fake Shemp”
Did you ever watch Sandy Becker as well?
I’m glad I was able to surprise you with this video! Hopefully more people will know about Joe Palma
Curly was with Moe, Larry, and Healy when they made Nertsery Rhymes in 1933.
@@ScottGrammer they also made 4 other shorts that year (in addition to movie appearances). The best was 'Beer and Pretzels". On my DVR I have one of the other three that aired on TCM recently, "Plane Nuts".
@@aqureshi73 That's one I don't have. I have seen it though.
Before Shemp left the act one movie was filmed with Moe, Larry and Shemp along with Ted Healey. Soup to Nuts - 1930.
@Strider Telcontar that's right! Because of that fear he was often the target of Teds practical jokes, which weren't too funny to Shemp!
Shemp is my favorite Stooge, and thank you Joe for filling in, however briefly.
It must have been REALLY painful for Moe and Larry to pretend that Shemp was still there and continue on like business as usual like nothing happened...😔
You’re so right. It’s a bit painful to watch, I have to say. My heart def hurts for them
@@ricknineg yes.. but back then, it was common for people to be dying and suffereing because of wars, diseases, etc. Diseases and conditions which are now treatable used to be crippling and fatal. In biblical times life expectancy was in the 30's. Up until a few decades ago, a typical lifespan was in the 60's. Before Covid, the lifespan reached 79. Now we have a senile 79 year old, with dementia, who has already suffered significant brain damage with two brain aneurysms, and stutters.. as President of the United States!
@@NicoTineman ...reading "presidential" speeches in a mock-up of the Oval Office to make it easier to read from a teleprompter, while his veep hires child actors to make her look relatable. Talk about "fake Shemps"!
@@AmericanActionReport Well Covid still takes over 80 more than any other age group, beyond that 79 years avg. life expectancy. I wasn't expecting to see these accurate comments down here on a 3 stooges video. It's refreshing to see more and more people, informed, getting it. FJB, LGB!!! You 2, Nico, Jerry, don't forget to have some fun, it's okay to forget about the big guy and his 10%. Hard not to draw parallels though. :-D
@@pgtmr2713 As you say, don't forget to have some fun. A life of fear and confusion is a life easily led by people who thrive on the fears and confusion of others. Speaking of having fun, for more than a year, I've been making a full-length, totally farcical comedy that has nothing to do with the problems of today. I'm doing it only for fun.
Thanks for this. Joe was a trooper for doing this and helping keep the laughter during that era.
OMG, Thank You for

There were a lot of great

Many Thanks Rick, for

JOE was able to keep that secret for this long, he deserves more credit than he's getting!
I've been a Stooge Fan for my whole life and I never heard about Joe as Fake Shemp. You learn something new everyday. 🤘😝🤘
Rick - where are you finding all these stories? This was so interesting. Thank you for sharing. Blessings - Judith 🎵🎭🍁🎃
This is the work that I do 😃
@@ricknineg Well, you are very good at it, my friend. Blessings - Judith 🎵🎭🍁
I always watched their shows and never noticed JOE as a fill in. Great editing.
Great vid. I was 6 months old when poor ol' Shemp Howard died. Thanks for the insight.
Well never knew this I loved three stooges well never knew there was a fake shemp well learn something new everyday he was exposed interesting facts thanks for sharing Rick great video 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
It's William Campbell Shears all over again, lol
Palma was NOT your average "Joe" He AWS your fake Shemp. Also the "fall guy" LOL!
I’m so glad that you enjoyed it and that it all made sense.
Any Stooge watcher would never have known that Joe replaced Shemp in these shorts.
For the time, it was very well executed
Read a stooge book as a kid and knew about joe palma
Never knew there was a fake Shemp . I learned a lot about the 4 shorts and Joe Palma . I always enjoyed the 3 Stooges .
Thank You so much! I’m glad that you enjoyed this look at the stooges during one of their most trying times.
I was a kid when the Stooges were at their peak. I had no clue that anything was wrong. I had no idea that Joe Palma was not the real Shemp. I however have known the full stoy of the Three Stoges for decades but still found the video refreshed in my mind that knowledge. Thank you.
Everybody loves Curly but Shemp is my favorite Stooge. My mother hated the Stooges and I used to drive her crazy doing that "be-be-be-be-be" thing.
So, it turns out that, along with Joe Besser and Curly Joe DeRita, we also had Joe Palma all along!
Correct, I would say he was an official stooge. Usually they played themselves but he played another stooge haha
When I Was A Kid Me And My Late Dad Would Watch This Together Brings Back Great Time's
(There! Have I mentioned the name "Joe" enough times?) Blessings to you!
it must have hurt moe to have joe stand in like that.
They were professionals through and through and the quality of their performances were exceptional as always. But it must have hurt, for sure….even saying his name
Wow! Never knew there was a fake Shemp.
They still make me smile 🤣
Hey Rick, I was not familiar with the term Fake Shemp, it was nice of Joe to fill in!!! Thanks for the history lesson!! 👍👍🙂
Gotta "love" Columbia. "Oh, your brother died? We're sorry. Now get out there and make another Three Stooges short now!"
Oh I didn’t know shemp died before the series was over. I didn’t even know there was a Joe in any of the episodes.
Joe palma was a good replacement kinda sad to us fans who knew this...
Amazing...to learn about Joe Palma standing in for my fave stooge..Shemp. Thank you.
Curly and Shemp were great so they were hard to replace so bringing in Joe gave them time for there future act.
I love the three stooges the trio is funny then and now joe palma did a job playing the fake shemp took his place and a good actor substitute for him.
Must have been real tough for Moe to work with another actor posing as his brother shamp, after his death. 😢
He was such a trooper
I knew about the "fake Shemp". I didn't know Joe Palma stood in for him. A little trivia for those that don't know. Their real names: Moe... Moses, Shemp...Samuel, Curly...Jerome. Their last name was originally, Horwitz.
I remember these... I felt that something was not right... but until I watched this I did not understand "why" ... Thank you for posting this.
Thank you so much! By the way, I just posted a new video about you. Ardath Bey
Ha... you spotted my net-name... The Mummy... always loved the way Boris said that name (ha)
Good stuff. Was never aware that there were multiple Shemps. Knew about the 3 different curlys, but not shemp. Thank you
