thank you for info - Your idea can be applied to other external samplers/synth with sequencers functions with CC Midi mapping and Parameter Locking - Connecting Microfreak to external to these external gear could mean you program the internal filter / effect also dynamic per 'step' for even more new drum sounds - example: On a Elektron Octatrack it means instant 256 drum sounds variations ' ( 64 drum steps X 4 variations ) on just one microfreak preset + adding filter / effects parameter changes for each Drum Step...
@@ApproachingNoise I saved that video. I’m looking forward to trying that along with the Arturia DrumBrute synchronized in slave mode. Thanks for being so clear and generous with your creations. With the beatstep controlling the microfreak you could either use the step sequence method or finger drum your own beats and record in real time ! Plus beatstep has the assignable encoder knobs you could assign to a plethora of midi control functions as micros to make changes inside the freak . You could use beatstep to run another older synth using its cv outs . Or gate out on a drum Sequence . I have beatstep and liked it so much I upgraded to beatstep pro. Now you can use the roller/ looper strip ( like a beat slicer ) and have access to the last step of every separate track in the sequencer, and also the randomness and probability functions . Worthy creative tools for live performance
Bro gave me enough coffein to overnight one more day With my microfreak (first ever synthesizer) god damn this is banger synth. Ty for tutorial, thx for bringing me dopamine haha
Great video! Hello noise oscillator . Love the way the kick in your sequence remains unaffected by the later oscillator type change-outs . I would have liked to hear what the spice or dice automatic sequence editing buttons would have done with creating rests etc
IDK if I am more impressed w/Arturia or your abilities to define arbitrary sounds into discreet keys.. Very Cool.. I need a tutorial on this machine.. any suggestions? I'm subscribing to this channel.. Thanks - Peace
Thank you! I'd suggest the manual, Arturia's own playlist (ruclips.net/p/PLt1d_YWdtAZ7qI6w7LAhm8kbjfmXJctR_), and then just looking around RUclips for tips and tricks from people that are thinking outside the box. Experiment!
I just got a micro freak and I'm just getting into synths. Ive been using this tutorial ruclips.net/video/lmFhBkvSULU/видео.html It has unlocked a lot of the mystery around using an instrument I'm not familiar with. It is long. I've only gotten through half of it but it has helped a lot. It is broken down into chapters which is nice. I spend a little time each night on a specific chapter until I feel I understand it then the next evening I move on to the next chapter.
Nice work! I noticed recently that “HatsMaker” preset (140 on mine) uses the mod matrix for open/closed hats (Key -> Decay), tuned just right for high C open, low C closed hats- not sure if a variation on that would work here, but your neat and more expansive concept here got me wondering what you might do with an extra automation lane.
Thank you! Since I'm already using the Key->Cutoff modulation in the matrix, it might interfere with that, but I'm sure you can make it work by choosing your notes carefully (maybe you'd have to reverse the Key->Decay modulation so that low C is open and high C is closed, so that low notes can still give you boomy kicks). Or just let go of the key tracking altogether. An extra automation lane could be used for the Shape knob to get even more sound possibilities in your sequence, or maybe even the Amp Envelope Attack, to create noise swells/reverse cymbals. I'll have to give it a try!
@@ApproachingNoise I am a sophomore in a world of post graduates here.. I am genuinely humbled but pleasantly motivated - Thank You One and All for a great channel and resource..
Great tutorial. For some reason, all the kicks after my first kick don't sound the same. I've checked all the automation and it looks fine so I dunno what the issue is.
i have a problem, that when playing the sequence the first kickdrum that comes is normal, but the rest of them get really quiet. anyone have a solution?
Would I be correct to think that any and every sound imaginable to the human ear can find an analog in this digital environment? If that is a dumb question forgive me..
Technically, yes. But practically, no, since some sounds can simply be too complex to model and emulate. So even if it's technically possible, it might take too long to make just one particular sound.
With the new 5.0 firmware update it is possible since it allows to import and play back and manipulate samples of any recorded sound on the MicroFreak.
No difference. Both have a vocoder. The vocoder version just comes with a microphone in the box, while the normal one doesn't. You can buy the microphone and use it with the normal MicroFreak.
You can also introduce spice!
Good catch! Dice too. Great for instant variations.

[Cool drum sounds]

thanks man! really a great explanation, and you open a world for me with this!

Really concise and helpful tutorial! I knew this was possible but wasn't quite sure how to go about it. Thanks!

Brilliant work.
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it!

Check out the Arturia MiniFreak!
Very impressive, MicroFreak evolved to next level...
This is a great tutorial. I was gonna get a beat step or something to create drum patterns but this should work nicely. Thank you.

I love my MicroFreak but drums/perc is not its strong suit. I'm hoping the new MiniFreak model finally fills that gap. 😁

How do set up the sequencer pattern to be triggered as an arp (like you showed at the beginning of the video)?
If you enable the sequencer (Shift + Arp), any key should trigger the sequence.
Next step: DFAM 😉
