"Working Man" is the ultimate Rush tribute album, bringing together a world class array of superstars on their respective instruments (and voices) to record Rush covers in the studio. Many Rush fans don't know this project exists, and the CD's are hard to find (some say sold out). When I first bought the album, I almost considered it 'blasphemy' because I thought the self-indulgence went way too far in adding to the original Rush compositions. But it didn't take long to realize that these guys weren't showing off, they were modernizing and paying respect to "beefing up" the ol' classics - and having a great time doing so. Did they ever BEEF THEM UP !! You haven't heard Rush like this before. Big rectifier guitar tones, sweep picking guitar solos, insane bass, insane keyboards, rockstar vocals, and the drums...well they say Neil is a god...how about hearing god thru the ears of some other superstar drummers. It is a freakin' TREAT to hear. It's Rush on steroids, in a good way. Extremely tasty, and chops galore. Combine Moving Pictures with the Rockstar movie... you've got Working Man.
I almost PREFER this version of Analog Kid to the original Rush recording (gasp!). It's been turned into a progressive smorgasbord, especially the ending. Mike Portnoy took real liberties in changing the drums to his style, yet keeping the respect and taste to the original Rush moods in this song. Mike Pinnella's keyboards are lush and beautiful in the choruses. The double-bass chunking to "metal up" sections are great - the wizards Michael Romeo and Brendt Allman giving it that harder edge. But GAWD ALMIGHTY - the guitar solo is a fireworks blitz of pure Romeo stardom. You never thought that sweeping and shredding could be so tastefully performed - and FIT into a Rush song. These boys worked hard on this and it shows. Love the embellishments with the guitar solo exit - Romeo, Sheehan, and Portnoy all doing triple-interplay, makes you wonder "THIS is Analog Kid??" haha What a treat. Jack Russell really puts the Analog Kid feeling into this cover, making it soooo anthemic. Great job. Lastly, the ending of the song is a guitar & keyboard virtuoso battle between Romeo and Pinnella - twinning the lines and everything... holy crap. Like I said... Rush on steroids.
See my other posts from this album on my Channel.
This version is pretty damn good. They took a great song and made it into their own version. Like it. Portnoy is killing it on the drums.
RIP JACK RUSSELL
🤘🤘
RIP Jack Russel
Agreed! What a terrible loss to an unbelievable talent.
I love Rush, nothing replaces their original sound/performances... but I think new "interpretations" are great things, and shows the love that other musicians have for those guys...
thanks for posting this, I'm going to pick up this album.
One of the best if not the best cover I have ever heard!!
This record is a must have, just wonderful
I'm a huge Rush fan but this is also Most Excellent!
AWESOME TRIBUTE TO RUSH. GREAT BUNCH OF ROCK STARS AT THEIR
BEST. ONE OF THE BEST COVERS I HAVE EVER HEARD. THESE CD IS A
MUST HAVE FOR ALL RUSH FANS.
This is very (VERY) excellent ! - Thank you.
3:19 The most incredible chops begin...
Love the part with Sheehan and Romeo harmonizing the solo
You don't know if its sheehan ?!?? check the part at 4:00 - NO DOUBT !!
HOLY SHIT !!!! I'll be grinnin for the rest of the month !!! Thanks for the post !!
one of my favorite songs & 3 of my favorite musicians !!
Open sea and city lights
Busy streets and dizzy heights
qual nome do album?
Fernando ZC Falae Brow, hehehe. Então, o nome do disco é "Working Man", é um tributo ao Rush onde vários músicos de várias bandas regravaram músicas do Rush. Bem legal...
Forever dwells in that moment_the writer stares with glassy eyes defies the empty page. his beard is white his face is lined and streaked with tears of rage. fourty years ago how the words would flow with passion and precision, but now his mind darkened by sickness and indecision.... as he stare out the kitchen door, where the sun will rise no more...._jack. relax. get busy with the facts.. like in the movie cast away... im so sad hes gone . nut i'm so glad he was with me on that island.... you will always be here.. with us..on this journey thru life ,,an internal part of us drives on with the spirit he shared with us all..thru books music and imagination, our clockwork lives must move on,... get busy living or get busy dying............. Because were here......-moon rise thoughtful eyes staring back at me from the window beside.
no fright or hindsight leaving behind that empty feeling inside.
my ship isn't coming and i just cant pretend....long live NEP & Rush 1-22-2020
WOW. That was awesome!
I remember this album when it first came out; lot's of great interpretations of Rush classics. I like this version of The Analog Kid almost as much as the original.
Incredible tribute! My favorite musician is Sheehan. I'm glad to hear an excellent version of Rush music. It is Rush, but it is not Rush! Great!
I feel sad about great bands like Yes, King Crimson... I miss them!
3:18 the start of a crazy epic solo by Mr. Romeo
I have this Cd, it is great! Awesome interpretations of rush tunes, by excellent musicians!
Romeo is a total badass!
It's always been my favorite cover of...well...the record
Cool tribute jam....a great song that I never get tired of.
I hate cover bands that play it EXACTLY the same. If you want it EXACTLY the same listen to the CD. If you want to hear someone put their own spin on it with their own style then look for that. This is NOT exactly the same and nor should it be. It is a little heavier and I like it. If you don't; well then go put on the Rush CD.
+Jeff Isles My point exactly. Look at the players on this cover... Sheehan, Portnoy, Romeo... Come on! It's gonna be a little bit over-the-top and there's nothing wrong with that! This version of this song lifted me out of the pile of shit that was grunge in the 90s.
I can appreciate both. The innovation and interpretation of one's own version can be just as impressive as the mastering of tone and technicality to mimic the original.
Very Cool. Really brings this track up to date. Very cool. Said that already. Cool though.
Esta versión es increíble, para mi la mejor del disco!!
Creo que Rush merece otro tributo, a la memoria de Neil Peart!!!!RIP 😢
Love this one and the original. A true RUSH fan can appreciate anything related to RUSH.
Escala Coco appreciate yes, but like ???
Good cover, with more firepower in the solo!
I've always liked Jack Russel's voice. Great singer.
Nifty version of a great track.
Feeling feeling singing
You keep showing Michael Romeo's pictures during rhythm guitar parts, it should be Brendt Allman from Shadow Gallery (badass). Romeo only contributed to the guitar solos
Beautiful
This is an epic cover. I love Rush, but these guys nailed it. They paid homage to a defining band and did justice to the band in their own way. To anyone bashing Romeo...lol. That is all I can say. He dominates this solo...technique on another level while also demonstrating unparalleled nuance/control. Anyone who says otherwise is jealous or deaf.
@GorgonTheHybrid The point in covering Rush, is not to make it sound just like Rush, It's to pay homage to one of the most influential bands of all time and put your own individual spin on the song as an artist. If it sounded just like Rush then it wouldn't be interesting. If you want something that sounds exactly like the record then listen to the record. And non-existent keyboards? Did you not listen to the chorus?!
It was a great album. Just relax and enjoy.
I almost like this better than the original.
PORTNOY !!!
Gooooood
awesome
I remember thinking that the lack of the real bass line was an homage to Geddy.. "i can't do it any justice, so I won't try". Now I think its weak.
kevbelz what... what the hell?
There’s mr Billy Sheehan playing the bass here... 0.o
Gr8 Gr8 cover of that track! I love that song!
viva!! RUSH
You guys rock, F@#$ all those haters, like they could even try to do this.
That "working man" album is a must have one, good tribute, it's one of my favorites, I had another Rush, but it's not as good as this magna carta one, by the way, MC has more good tributes to other bands, like Yes, Supertramp and Genesis I think
Cuantos músicos para igualar esta obra de arte
This is pretty damn rockin I must say
I love it! Great vocal performance - only thing that bugged me is I wish Mike sat back in the pocket a little more in the chorus.
Damn strait.
this rules, but now i want more synchonized Michael Romeo/Billy Sheehan solos and idk where to find them fuqq
@TheOriginalAnalogKid totes magotes dude thats one of my favorite bass parts of all time
@negtype13 You are dead on correct. If not for Rush, how many bands would really exist? Even Metallica has listed Rush as one of their influences. Rush was the first true band from Canada that wasn't a folk rock band or interested in top 40 music. Look at all of the movements that have come about since they came into existance-disco, new wave, punk, glam rock, grunge, new rock, rap-and they are still going strong. They are beyond icons. LONG LIVE GEDDY ALEX AND NEIL!!!
nono is Michael Romeo, a Symphony X guitar
Plus it's fun.
@MrNusecus Dream Theater is prog metal, Rush is prog rock. Talk about awesome!
@skookumjoe "Working Man" is the name of this Tribute Album.
I really like Michael Romeo's solo
Nice vocals
there's a Pink Floyd tribute one with a similar line up, that is very good too!
If they can't do it better than Rush than don't do it.
@larkydozer
What do you mean "metal guys just don't get RUSH"?
I have always thought of myself as kind of a "metal guy", I love heavy music!
The heavier the better!
RUSH was actually one of the very first bands to be called "heavy metal".
If not for RUSH, I believe heavy metal as we know it today may never have developed.
Today we call it "progressive", but when RUSH first came on the scene, there was not even a word for the level of intensity & musicianship that they displayed.
@dtoliaferro I knew of it. I just never bought the CD because I didn't think it would be worth it. I think it's worth it now if you can get it cheap, aka used.
michel romeo used what kind of guitar???
pls remenber me how this cd tribute was called?
Can't imagine anyone not liking this rendition. Working Man is such a badass tribute album. I love the originals, but that doesn't mean you can't listen to some covers once in a while. And as a big Rush fan, I can honestly say the Working Man tribute album is a perfect album, and that, not only because it's got some of my favorite musicians on it. It gives the original tracks an extra edge.
I understand the band didn't initially approve of this, and were concerned Magna Carta was just exploiting the fans, but People not liking this, are just grumpy idiots, who cannot seem to explore and appreciate different boundaries.
Damn the energy, the virtuosity, the musicianship - this album's got everything.
Bests:
Analog Kid
Natural Science (Holy vocal diversity on this one)
Agreed! Well put!!
It took 6 people to play a song originally played by three. Nonetheless very good cover indeed
No, the challenge IS to make it sound just like Rush..I've never heard ANYBODY do it yet..
@Spazmaztic Thanks i ususally get slagged off for saying stuff on here .. respect
I like Mike Portnoy. But besides that. How can you try and change Rush? This sounds good. But you can't change the sound of Rush...
@negtype13
Doesn't mean they "get it" , which in this video's example, they so obviously do not.
Rush + metal = dream theater? :p
bleeeaaahhhh !!!
What happened to the art of subtlety?
What happened to the bass at .10 to .24???
That intro is my favorite part!
If that really is Sheehan I am AMAZINGLY disappointed.
I was NOT impressed...
@papalazerus22 Amennn!
@SuperJohnnyO
Perfect summation.
Metal guys just don't get Rush.
cant beat the only version that remains in burned in memory.. sorry should have chosen a different strings..lol
I generally find people that criticize amazing guitarist like Michael Romeo are either extremely jealous have absolutely no Talent of their own or technique. The song was amazing as is the original. Not taking anything at all away from Rush. They are still an awesome band and their music is timeless
very noble cover, but cant agree it's better than the original, lacks the kick that Rush gave this great great great song.
I like this version a lot and several of the other covers from 'Working Man' are very good too. However avoid at all costs the other tribute album 'Subdivisions' Magna Carta put out after this one. The Rush songs on that one are butchered beyond recognition, it's horrible.
6 people to cover the trio of Rush. Just sayin...
not bad...
You don't cover a song by one of your favourite bands to make it "better than [or] as good as the original. It's just a bit of fun, and pays homage to those musicians who inspired you by recording a version of their song with a flare of your own musicianship, much of which the original artists are responsible for influencing.
Forgot to take your meds today, Niekpas? Sounds like you're taking this way too seriously. That's ok... I forgive you.
@faustoj26a a white one :)
@JRCrowley I just almost never see the point of covers. Unless you can change it up enough to make it interesting AND improve on the song, they just usually fall flat to me. This particular cover - meh, nothing wrong with it I guess, but why would I want to listen to this song with inferior vocals when I can listen to Rush doing it so much better? Look up Jacob Moon covering Subdivisions live on the roof - it doesn't improve upon Rush (impossible), but at lest it's interesting.
Killer guitar playing if this was a Shrapnel release from the 80's ... this isn't a tribute ... they turned a classic into a pointless 'noodle' "look what I can do-fest" ...
@danieldpm1 I know...wow...all of the extra double kick and polyrhythms from the drummer too. Bonus hairband vocal from the school of Vince Neil to boot! Lame.
Great rendition however guitar solo just ott for me.
Not crazy about this version
🙄😬
Ok...not bad. Still not as fantastic as the original, but serviceable.
Yuck. I'm glad I have the actual Rush song to listen to so I can wipe this horrible memory from my brain. Here's the difference: Rush has songs with some cool 'chops' in them; these guys have 'chops' with a song in there........ somewhere.
The lead is way to much over the top
sorry but this is just widdle widdle !!!! sick of hear the same old ... who is the best !!!!
i loved the vai ... billy s era !!! when they worked with dave lee roth !!! amazing stuff Yes ........ but please leave Rush to do what rush do !!!! WRITE the fucking great stuff !! not cover it !!!!!
What on earth is the point of covering Rush? You'll never do it as good as them, and it just sounds like a cheap imitation. The vocals kind of suck and the keyboards are almost non-existent. And then all the liberties with the guitar - man, you just don't need to fuck with perfection...
Hahahaha so terrible !!!
What a cluster-truck; this was awful.
This sucks!!! Especially the singer
Uh..that was horrible. The solo was WAY over the top. Im a RUSH fan. This was a hack job.
Everything is amazing except the solo was horrible. That solo is classic and fits, don't replace it with a solo that sounds like someone practicing scales and sweeps. Anyhow, Jack Russell was AMAZING!!!
