    Im in my 40s. I've been fortunate in my life to see the Chicago Bears win a superbowl, the Chicago bulls win 6 Championships, the Chicago White Sox win a World series, the Chicago Blackhawks win 3 Stanley Cups, and the Chicago Cubs win a World Series and been there every step of the way for each. My ride isn't over yet, I love this city...

      The single most dominant defense in NFL history, 66 sacks, lead league in Turn overs forced and TD's scored by a defense, and the Bears first unit defense only allowed one FG in three playoff games for an average of 3.3 PPG in the '85-86 playoffs, they beat 10-6 NYG 20-0, 11-5 LA Rams 24-0, and in the Superbowl 46-10, in this day and age that 3.3 PPG playoff points given up will most likely never be matched, Buddy Ryan's D was the greatest single most dominant D in the history of the NFL!

    I'm now a Vikes fan....but back in the day I used to go to WRIGLEY FIELD to watch the Bears. I was at 6 games in the1985 season and that includes BOTH playoff games.
    I watched everyone play this game, from Y.A Tittle to Bubba Smith, to Gayle Sayers, to Tom Brady play this game.
    NEVER before has any defense played like this one. They had the right talent for the right scheme (the 46) at the right time. Best D-line....incredibly fast and smart linebackers.... and talented corners. Add a Yale educated free safety and it's magic.
    Most people forget this little fact; They played that year with 2 All-Pros defensive players on the sideline due to contract issues. 2 ALL PROS....Al Harris, and Todd Bell. This defense could have been even better.

    I'm 65 and watched un"bear"able football in 70s. As a child I loved the 60s butkis Sayers picalo ditka the 70s. Hard to watch like they are now. But 77 they drafted sweetness. I'm going to get emotional. He was as pure joy to watch as he was to hear talk. Rip Walter. But in 70s I saw a QB at BYU and couldn't believe Pappa bear chose number 9. Jimmy Mac. I knew them the pieces were coming together. Oh my gosh. Did they. Each one of them came to the line of scrimmage with the tools. And nobody since has ever equaled what they did. The 85 bears will never be matched. It's a different game now. "DA BEARS".

    After watching the 2015 Denver Broncos once again demonstrate that dominating defense will always triumph (after GM John Elway actually learned from his 2013 Seattle Seahawks experience), I had to come back here yet again, and relive memories of the greatest defense that EVER was ... and frankly, the team that changed how the game is played.
    Seriously, some of their stats boggle the mind, and might in fact be impossible under the current offense-favoring rules. But for the offense turning it over early and giving the Patriots a field goal, and the Patriots later scoring a TD in garbage time when the Bears couldn't play for a shutout, the 1985 Chicago Bears would have been unscored upon throughout the playoffs. That's ... incomprehensible.

    Diehard Steelers fan, had season tickets to the Steelers from 1975 to 1985. I I watched the GREATEST defense play LIVE, the 1976 Steelers. Even ESPN rated them #1, and the statistics are sick to how many shutouts there were, but let me tell you, the 85 BEARS had more characters and more flavor then any other team, and if I had to choose which one I would take, I’d HONESTLY take the 85 BEARS OVER the Steelers, and just mentioning this here I would be disowned by family and several friends. So saying this on here is REALLY making a statement coming from me.
    Let me just say one more thing, I still think without Otis Wilson, Wilbur Marshall, and Gary Fencik, that team is NOTHING. Those three STARS, WHO SHOULD BE IN THE HALL OF FAME, receive absolutely NO CREDIT WHATSOEVER, because Singletary receives all the accolades. Don’t get me wrong, Mike was a STAR by himself, but those three I mentioned, are disregarded as stars, and thought of as just GOOD players. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Go watch the films, even when they left the Bears, they still made Pro-Bowls. Oh I love the three HOF’s from the defense, Hampton, Dent, and Mike, but the unsung heroes are Wilbur, Gary, and Otis. Just as I’m not a Cowboys fan, but how can Pearson, Charley Waters, and Cliff Harris NOT be in the Hall of Fame??? Or the one that bothers me the MOST is Kenny Stabler??? NO ONE was bigger in Meaningful Games then Ken Stabler. Forget the stats, just look at the Contributions those players I mentioned made to put all of them with Super Bowl wins for a lengthy period. As I said, saying those players belong in the Hall, Kenny, Cliff, etc, is saying something since I HATE Dallas and the Raiders. But I’m ALWAYS on the level, just as Donnie Shell from my team belongs in the HALL OF FAME, but will never be considered. Maybe one day all those talented players from the 1970s and 80s will wear the Yellow coat. If you didn’t have the opportunity to see these players play, go watch the films. It’s like watching Eric Dickerson, so much grace and talent. Thank as for reading this, and I wrote this from my VA hospital bed, Semper Fidelis, Captain T, U.S.M.C.

      Yes, in 86' the defense was better. However, part of what makes 85' so special is that playoff run. They shut out the New York Giants in the divisional round, then shut out the L.A. Rams in the NFL championship game and then defeated the Patriots 46-10 in Super Bowl XX. If you can get a chance to watch those three games, do it. They're a thing of defensive beauty.

      The big difference was the loss of Buddy Ryan. Where it was felt the most was in the giveaway/takeway category. They went from around +20 to close to even. The emphasis on pressure was no longer there and many of the Bears on defense didn't like it. I think they would have won a second Super Bowl if Buddy Ryan had stayed.

    For some reason, I begin to imagine the modern PFL (Pansy Football League) penalizing these guys for their bone-crushing, lowered-helmet, etc. hits. But they keep doing it. And then they keep doing it. Then, after about seven or so 15-yard penalties to put the enemy offense on the goal line...the drive NEVER ENDS, because the penalties can never give more than half the distance to the goal, once down in close...but the offense CANNOT get in.
    Or do you think they'd just eject all the '85 Bears' starters, for winning the sport of football?

    While the 2024 Bears have yet to play a game, I'm anxiously waiting, what with all the moves GM Ryan Poles has made during the offseason, including drafting Caleb Williams number one. I watched a replay of the Bears-Bengals game from August 17, 2024, and from what I've seen of Williams' playing ability, he far outshone Justin Fields, and Poles was right in trading him to Pittsburgh. And while the '24 Bears won't have the same defense as the '85 Bears had, they'll still be exciting to watch. Go Bears!

    2000 Ravens Denfense would give them a run for their money as regards to the greatest defensive of all time. In addition in this post showed the bears had a really good offense as well. The Ravens won the Superbowl with the worst offense in league history. All they had was their defense. They're probably the team in history to make the Superbowl on fieldgoals from their offense. M

      +Kevin Lukas haha no joke. I may be a guy in the younger generation, I was born in the 90's, but I always liked watching NFL films, classic games, and A football Life. Mainly because I liked seeing the evolution of the game. The game may have had a slower pace and didn't look as flashy as it does now, but I can tell that it was much more physical and wearing on players before the 2000's. Not to say that it still is but the way the pace and of the game is played has changed dramatically. the play calls and officiating is much more in favor of the offense, and as a result Defenses are allowed to do so much less. like prior to 2004 horse collars were allowed, or back in the day Deacon Jones would literally hit at the linemen to get to the quarterback, or the helmet to helmet contact tackling the bears are doing in this video. I'm also aware that the health of the players is important but there are some defensive techniques that should be brought back. My biggest one is the restrictions on Corner-back play. They can't even have a finger on the receiver after 5 yards otherwise a damn flag gets thrown. Even stuff like the unintentional helmet contact that happens when there's a sack, DE has his chin up but barely initiates contact on ht QB's mask and it still draws a penalty, it bugs the hell out of me. Might as well be two hand touch or one hand touch in a few years.

    • @yuh3491
      @yuh3491 8 лет назад +2

      Murphy08 you could not have said that better. I feel that if some of the defensive players from the '85 Bears were to play today like they did back in 85, they'd basically be playing for free lol because of all the fines they would get. Football was better to watch in the 80's with all those hard hits and that '85 Bears defensive team knocking out quarterbacks and scaring every offense they played against.

    • @Murf_Workshop
      @Murf_Workshop 8 лет назад +1

      +Kevin Lukas yep!!! no kidding, The defenses now are still fast, but that physicality of the game has really toned down. I can only watch replays of games, I'm always watching films or videos of old school showdowns from back in the day. Certain postions don't have the focus on them anymore. The RB is my favorite my favorite player, but the physical traits for that position have changed so much in the past couple of decades. these days the RB is smaller and lankier(slimmer). Or Even the blocking TE. most Tight Ends are used as a spare reciever.

These guys were all 3 and 4 down players, real athletes in every sense; not these guys today who's job it is to clog up the middle of the field and come off on 3rd down. '85 Bears playing the 46 had 3 HOFers and could have been at least 3 more if their careers shook out a bit differently. Shame they couldn't keep it together for longer because this was a dynasty in the making..

      ***** Not the NFL, really? No one's blameless but NFL would top the list. What was the average IQ of a ball player, do you really think any of these guys knew about the long term effects, concussions, peds and pain killers have in the human body to a level that would allow them to make an informed choice as to whether or not to take them? Maybe most still would but allowing such cultures to exist in environments where they could be abused due to ignorance isn't acting with integrity or in the the players best interests. Isn't that what the rules of the NFL are supposed to do. Are you telling me well educated people in the NFL didn't know and understand what risks were involved? Of course they knew, but they were making money. Not excusing the players because they were grown men but these guys ain't Law graduates from Harvard. They were taken advantage of plain and simple.

I hate watching the Refs throw a flag on every other play ! They are stopping the players from playing their game and destroying continuity and momentum, which determines the outcome of the game.It is not the same today as it was in the old days !
