Im with you there Greg. The process of making something bad ass is so much more satisfying when you do it with your own two hands.
loving the daily uploads! id like to see hardwood floors in the peterbilt!
Turn wheel to right. Pick up rear ended with that bobcat setting there and drag it wherever you need it.
Not gonna happen.
I love watching progress on the projects spurs me on to get my jeep finished thank you 👍🏻
You're the man Greg! Occasionally you get a day where everything just falls together but usually you gotta fight for it every step of the way. Keep up the good work and thanks for the videos!
Find you a car hauler steer axle, that will get you 5” lower in the front on 22.5’s.
I like the every day vloging Greg’s got going on here
A welder who knows what they are doing should not have an issue welding that bumper bracket. Cast aluminum welding is what separates the men from the boys. And your other brackets that have the holes can easily be plug welded and sanded flush. Be like they were never there. Awesome content. Glad to see you're back on the daily upload schedule!
That happend to our 01 pete it’s common for the bumper mounts any way
"Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. WE KEEP MOVING FORWARD, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we’re curious…and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." - Walt Disney
Check out the rigid truck lite led 5x7s. Great output and blacked out. Love the vids!
Awesome awesome video Greg A, man what awesome progress on the peterbuilt project, and having Ali’s brother in town the extra hands always helps on such big projects like this. And speaking of Ali’s brother, you gotta try and get him to dump that ferd F teen thousand out there in the driveway, and get him a Cummins truck lol. And he’s lacking on the Wrenchworks apparel too lol.
220 from the dryer in your house through a good extension cord 😂 don’t ask me how i know. Or stove
I’ve never done a project worth doing without hitting some snags along the way!!! Great stuff!!👍
Greg when your done and ready for polishing hit me up we’ll come to you just ask about pricing
Edward Smith he can't contact u through comments, I'm pretty sure he has an email u can send stuff to
Greg A's best end of video speech ever!
That’s typical of a peterbilt. Every truck we’ve redone we’ve have to weld new ones on. It happens. Keep at it!
Chock the tires and back off slack adjusters in the back, then readjust when done. No need for caging bolts by doing that and can move around with no air. Get the bolts to have them though.
It's really common for those ears to break on the aluminum horns. They don't take even minor hits very well. Catch a curb or even a coyote on the road, and it can break them.
I like where the headlights are heading. All polished up with the blacked out lights will look tight!
you only need to back the brakes off of axles that have parking brake chambers. the front won't have them and one of the rear axles may not have parking brake with service brake. but a 5/16 wrench or the snap on truck has the square socket for those and you have to release the button on the back of the slack to back that style off. or it may be 7/16 and that style doesn't have a release button to back them off. it will be harder to back them off without the brakes release but they will with some extra grunt. also when you weld that bracket up you could cut a flat piece of steel or aluminum to lay over the top of the existing bracket that bolts on to the top as well so you have all four bolts through your new plate. if you use steel make sure you put something between the brackets and flat piece. of course this way will make it stronger but it will make your bumper stick out the thickness of the plate used.
For the headlights, you might want to take a look at Dapper Lighting for their true projector style 4x6 lights. might only be limited on the depth available. specs are on the website but says they are only 3.2" deep without a bulb in them. just thought i would mention them instead of possibly using the cheap chinese housings that everyone is selling on ebay. either way cant wait to see more of the rig getting done.
If you have a dryer in your basement, you should be able to use the dryer outlet to power your welder. They both should be 30 amp 220v and the plug should plug right in. If not, you can always buy some 10/4 cable and make up an extension cord, we have 480v cords in our plant just for our welders.
It’d be some extra work but weld the end caps onto the headlights, grind and sand them smooth. It’s a lot of extra work but the extra detail is so worth it. Recommending trucklite brand 4x6s. They are led and Don’t have that new age projector looking lense. only down fall is they are not heated and tend to ice over. As for the front fender supports the newer style 389 brackets will not fit. Curvature of the fenders and the piece between the hood and fender itself it’s narrower on a 389 vs a 379 due to the 389 hood being slightly wider. And pro tip. Brace the hell out of the bottom of that 20” bumper.
Greg A’s wish list -down the road sounds like mine... lol I want lots of parts but they want the money I don’t have currently. Love the work your doing man, keep it up
Greg those break off all the time. I had mine welded on my truck then had a plate made that connects all the bolt holes to stiffen it up
Not gonna lie Mr Greg A, but being a mechanic that performs tractor alignments, I would highly suggest you get the alignment looked at once the Pete is road worthy again. Definitely will help ya sleep at night knowing the truck and frame are nice straight 👍
PS can't wait to see this beast done!🔥🔥🔥
I've worked on many 379 Pete's that had huck bolt problems. It's pretty common for the huck bolts to work loose and sometimes even snap over time as the cab and sleeper twist and rock going down the road and the common fix is to knock the old Huck bolt out and just insert a carriage bolt in its place. I'm guessing that's what's probably happened over the year. Carriage bolts have slowly been replacing the broken huck bolts over the years.
Those bars going from the bumper to the frame are weak, when you put the new bumper use angle iron and make your own supports. Will be much stronger.
Woth the wind pushing the bumper those factory supports will allow the bumper to bend over time. We use angle iron to make ours and the child up much better.
,,, grind back the mount, and fab some quarter thick stainless, for the lower section, and some try to be clever through bolts, or studs .
If you have a dryer in your basement where your garage is or you can run a cord to the dryer plug to your welder and I’ll be right there in front of your truck I don’t think it’s going to make much of a difference or if you have a long enough cord on the welder or you can turn around and run it to the dryer but it adapter on it good video keep up the good works nice to see him every day good video
I like your idea with the headlights.
Matched JW speaker 8800 headlights, polish the entire housing and just run the amber led as a turn signal only. If you want running lamps throw some air filter lights and some pocket lights on the sides of the bumper. If it's all polished there's almost no need to tint the signal lens because that will nearly disappear in the full polish. Just my pair of pennies.
Greg , great vidja as usual. Hopefully u can get that bracket fixed. Paccar will want an arm and a leg for that if u can’t... they’ve got it in a monopoly lol.. check out TRUX lighting. They have some awesome factory looking lights that are all kinds of color schemes. We sell them at work and anyone who buys them or has us install them really enjoys them.. especially the heated led headlights !!
Have you thought about taking the bocks in the front and putting them on top of the leaf springs then it will be lower an you can use the same bolts.
GREG_ALBERALLA where did u get that nice bumper from .
I’ve got cage bolts if you need them or just take a 7/16 or 5/16 wrench and back the slack adjusters off
Those spring hangers are about $900. The bumper bracket breaks off very easily and I have welded several of them up. Bolting a piece of steel plate between them and the bumper will help reinforce them.
Digging the new headlight setup!
I think you should go with the old school round headlights. Black out the grill to, It would look sick!
you needa make a wrench works shirt that says "when all else fails, just do something, just go to work, just get something else done." Nothing feels better than a productive day.
There pretty common to break off they weld those pieces back on all the time
If it’s cast iron, use a high nickel content electrode. Anything above 50% nickel content is what you should use to weld cast iron. If it’s aluminum, then just clean the hell out of it and basically bake the thing to get any sort of impurities out of it
Are you planning on sand blasting that nasty frame? I hope so. Looking good. Bring it out to Northern California when you're done.
There is usually caging bolts on the side of each brake can unless somebody removed them off of those break cans and the other option is just backing off the slack adjusters so that way the brakes release
Right on brother, pride in every project👌
Loving the Pete content! Keep up the good work!
LED square dual headlights man! Will look sick....
I would look at the jeep yj headlights. They may work in the semi. Then you can have alot of options
Not as bad to replace as looks, had to replace both when chevy malibu came out if front of me while i was going 60,pete an kw stock bumpers are crap, dont take much to tweek them
You can get caging bolts at any truck dealership for super cheap
The problem is if you need to stop quick you have to hurry and throw a block under a tire haha
Those frame horns always break, and aren't too bad to change. Takes about 3 hours
Lift rear with the skid steer and drag it to the shop
It's pretty common on those trucks just have Mike weld it
I like the idea as far as the headlights/blinkers go. Put some watermelon lights as markers down on the lower corners of the bumper. It'll look sharp. Put them on the mirrors too.
Who else saw the super single/high flotation tire/wheel assembly in the background?
Havent seen top many Pete's without broken bumper mounts
You do have cage bolts. Look on the bottom of the break chambers.
Betting I 80 truckstop would be a valuable tool for you if you where closer. Toys galore for big rigs.
20:16 time for parking lot pole lights that have a switch so you can turn them on and off. Especially now that you just built that huge parking lot.
Backing the slack adjuster out will allow you to roll the truck without air.
Yes do the blacked out headlights and do a blacked out grill insert
You should look into jw speaker headlights for the Pete.
nice idea getting rid of the clearance marker light ,,it looks cool but it WILL NOT pass an inspection ,, the light you deleted is the side clearance marker , the lights in the bumper are the parking lights and turn signals and not really required because the headlight assembly has the turn/marker
Keep on truckin.
Those brackets are supposed to be bent and that piece that you're welding is $1200 at peterbilt
you could take a piece of flat steel and bolt it to the top bolt hole and then that would be the new mount..? that would give the welded piece some more support...
A if your looking for a good used one vander haggs has one of those brackets
If you can find a car hauler set up for the front suspension that’ll drop it pretty low and give you a good ride
Depending on availability you could put a car hauler front end under it and that slams them pretty good
Those break quite often, had mine welded twice already.
Life is a garden and your digging it greg
Chrome sockets on an impact....I like bad boys
please keep the 379 headlights and not do singles! they look hideous! get some led lights you wont regret it
Mckinnell92 I agree about not getting singles . An older set of doubles would look great
Older set of doubles with the blinker ontop of the fender.
Brandon Caldwell yep! That’s what I was thinking too if he got some old style turns signals and mount em on the fender
Super common, weld it up with a spool gun
Ya bro everything was off when you got down to the fuel tanks they were placed in a different spot I haven’t seen under the door I’ve seen that on Mack trucks but not the bad Pete’s!!
been getting my butt kicked too. I have been saying to myself keep the ball bouncing. Its ugly sometimes but were bouncing! lets go! Is the peterbuilt going to be the new tow rig for the big trailer?
Boot ring has been replaced before.... frame horn damage.... that truck has been wrecked Greg.
Fully polished headlight surrounds with black housing led lights.
Happens all the time on Pete’s bad design. All you gotta do is back over something and they snap. Put a good weld in there. Both my trucks have that problem
Where did you get those headlights and blinkers for the 379 and can we hear the air horn
Keep the H5 light style but, upgrade to the better lights!
Don't black out the turn signal..
Just keep swimming just keep swimming ur ah I mean just keep working just keep working
Have you been watching finding Nemo with Raven keep up the great work you’ll get-r-done
Very nice rig!
Use your dryer plug for the welder.
Welcome to working on big trucks...
get some double J bars for blinkers
Little Gussets on those Petebuilt front bumper pieces - be stronger than OEM
Looks like you need new spring pin bushings as well
70% Talk
30% Work done
Switched out your Milwaukee for snap on huh?😂😂
That's normal. Welded mine years ago and is still holding. Should be fine with decent welds
Wire your welder to 220 in the house? Dryer?
that's why i love building everything i want to have. at the end of the day i can say i built that
Drew is the man love following him on ig
led headlight they look good and super bright
Do you have a 220 dryer out let in the garage on the house, I bought a 150 ft roll wire, made a 50 ft extension cord, I still can make a 100 ft cord, bring the welder too the Truck, it's easy-er then moving the Truck. think smarter not harder, LOL
It’s actually pretty common for those to break off and 99% of the time it’s the passenger side
I still think you should black it out. Keeping up with the polishing is going to be a pain in the ass plus you rarely see semis blacked out.
You should do an epoxy floor in the peterbilt
I like your video's but this time the music started while you were still talking and seemed a little much for background music!! Just saying! Can't you get your power from the house service? That new bumper will look GOOD! Just remember, nothing is impossible, it just takes a little longer!! Hang in there!
