    I've been in the back of an ambulance several times. It is traumatizing. However, I like to deal with things through humor, so, anytime I see an ambulance wailing down the road, and especially if I'm with someone, I'll yell, "oh look! My ride's here!" My mom doesn't laugh, but I do.

      I too was once brought by an ambulance to the hospital because my psychotherapist was afraid I did something to myself. And yes I can understand you! For one year or longer I couldn't see an ambulance without the thought "They are coming for me.". Even now I am not the same I was before.

    To those who can’t talk about trauma, try drawing. My therapist is trained(certified) in art therapy and I learned so much about myself from drawings. I just sat and drew from my memories and while initially, I had no feelings or emotions associated with what I drew, eventually I slowly began to feel the feelings. I shared my drawings with my therapist and she helped me process what I remembered with the help of these drawings. Knowledge is power and understanding ourselves in relation to our past, is vital for recovery, in my opinion/ experience.

    Hey Kati! Thank you for these podcasts. You always make videos that end up answering questions I've been pondering.
    One recommendation - you could add timestamps for questions in the description itself.
    I'm grateful to those who add them in the comments but please consider having it in the description in case someone doesn't add it to comments 🙈

    Thank you so much for this video. I am now working with a new therapist but I had just opened up about a major trauma for the first time with my previous therapist and completely dis-regulated and dissociated, and fell into an anxious depression, very unstable. I was asking for extra time and was told no. I thought that I was just needy and for the first time since a few month, I feel validated by you explaining that sometimes after someone opens up about a trauma, they need to talk more about it... man... I feel terrible that I blamed myself for being a needy baby about it... thank you again for this video. This helps me at least to know that I was not at fault for it.

    Just FYI, I have ASD but never had eye contact issues as part of the diagnosis. It's common but not a requirement. :)

    • @kaelendra
      @kaelendra Год назад +1

      I’ve eye care bract issues that can vary in degree from how Kati mentioned but also varies to being highly noticed by me and can be painful to maintain… it’s a spectrum and quite a bit of variance.
      It’s like sensory issues no they’re not required but they are frequently there.

    • @mason74551
      @mason74551 Год назад

      @@kaelendra Of course. As many things in the diagnostic criteria are. Almost all online sources I see list lack of eye contact as a guaranteed or nearly guaranteed symptom, so I wanted to share my experience. So yeah, we're both correct.
      Edit to say that I agree with the sensory issue statement. Can be overstimulated or understimulated or both or neither. I went for years not realizing I had any sensory sensitivities because being overstimulated was so normal for me.

    On question 8, I really thought that this stand off approach to therapy doesn't still exist and is now just a cliche from 70's TV when there were few if any therapists around, and the psychiatrist never gives feedback, just writes in a notebook and asks what do you think?
    And not blaming the abuser could just lead to more self blame. Not putting blame where it belongs feels akin to accepting a fake apology of sorry IF I hurt you!
