In today’s video I talk about my problem with clothes shopping. This topic is sensitive but I wanted to share my experience given recent trends on social media and the never ending cycle of fast fashion. Can you relate? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments 🥰

Thank you for your video! It was very nicely done! I'm also definitely an emotional shopper. 99% of what I buy is thrifted and quite cheap, which takes away a lot of the shame of overspending and makes the problem harder to spot. I have also been hiding the receipts and packages from my husband, which was when I realised that it's probably not a very healthy behaviour. I'm now trying to sort out what I don't wear and de-clutter my home. I think that one interesting thing that I noticed about my shopping personally is that I see a piece of clothing and invent scenarios that I would live through in that one beautiful dress - sort of expecting the garment to change my life in a way, to make me feel a certain way.
I just realised that I haven't really talked about this problem in therapy, and also that with my previous therapist I felt like a needed to reward myself for the session, so I immediately went to the thrift shop next door and almost always bought something (this isn't to say that she made me feel this way, it was just a lot of work and the shop was there). Fortunately my new therapist doesn't have a thrift shop nearby :D

@@zralokvemigraci Thank you so much for sharing and leaving your comment! ☺️ I can relate to the feeling, I also found myself on a constant hunt for the “perfect piece” that would “complete my closet” or in some way make life better, sort of like a fantasy as you describe. Even if you’re not talking about it in therapy yet, the fact that you are more aware of your behavior now is a great step forward!

I also want to buy less, I have many reasons to buy. I love buying clothes and bags and shoes because I love creating different looks an discover styles. I also buy because I have nothing else to do. my friends have no time to go out with me and my health is often not good enough to do things. So I am bored at home and look for the stuff 😱

Boredom can really be a strong factor in wanting to buy, so I can really relate to this. Is there something else that you can do to keep yourself occupied where you are not limited by your health? Maybe read or watch a movie? Listen to a podcast or try a new dinner recipe? Just a few ideas off the top of my head.. Sending you my love and hope that your health improves!
