Hello, Fred! Goldsmith leaves aside the " Hoosiers " synthesizers and returns to the traditional orchestra, in a score that moves delicately with woodwinds at the front, strings, a simple female choir and piano. With this, he tell us that each one's life is full of difficulties, tortuous paths, thorns, and a lot will have to be left behind. But if we have a dream ( " Rudy " ) or just looking for one last chance ( " Hoosiers " ), there will be the brass, with the orchestra & choir, triumphant, to celebrate our little great glory. Written by Angelo Pizzo and directed by David Anspaugh, both worked before on the successful sport-movie “Hoosiers” (1986), “Rudy” became a well received and remembered successor.
Musical accompaniment came from Jerry Goldsmith, naturally, as he was also involved on “Hoosiers” and turned out to be the perfect choice for such motivational scenarios. Enjoy!

This soundtrack and that of the movie 'Hoosiers', for me, are the most moving and beautiful scores from Jerry. Interesting that they are both sporting themed movies - - thank you Mr Goldsmith !

Maestro Goldsmith was sure adept at pumping out a motivational theme or two, and he sure had that orchestra primed up for this one!
The last 5 or so minutes is the very definition of power and grace. The underdog story being uplifted. Its one of my favorite pieces of film music and it also fits perfectly into the scene where Rudy finally gets on the field and the sheer happiness of the moment. Just perfect movie music. Its one of those pieces where you know exactly where it came from. Beautiful stuff.

Research: For critics, the caption of the title distributed in Italy "Rudy - Il successo di un sogno" specifies that the story narrated by the film really happened. Okay, we take note of that. This, however, does nothing to improve the fortunes of a film marked by a congenital, irreparable weakness.
Americans love these sports flicks, football or baseball, and they do very well there and ofter go unnoticed this side of the pond. This being pre-1995 I should've seen this but I haven't.
Great score albeit typically nostalgic feeling for these kinds of films.
