I got to shake Goldsmith's hand backstage in Nov. of 1983. He was very polite and thanked me for coming! A nice memory.

A favorite picture about one of America's great military generals.
My wife & I saw this in late '77 while living in Indy. Greg Peck was a good selection for the role. I think he was on one of Johnny Carson's Tonight Show episode.
And, what a great composer the late Jerry Goldsmith was! Great choice in selected for the score like he did in the 1970 release of "Patton".
This music score can move many to tears with emotion.

A requested score and a good one for a good movie, starring one of the greatest actors Hollywood has ever revealed, Gregory Peck. Jerry Goldsmith's music has been released on LP and a CD featuring unfortunately only 33 minutes of music.
However, the MacArthur march always stays as favorite. Enjoy!

You're right, man. I just did. Made in the WWII all-star-cast movie blitz of the '60s & '70s back when Hollywood still had a bit of grace and patriotism in it.

Douglas Macarthur was a great individual beyond comprehension. Tragic ending for his service. But a great, moral noble man.

I have seen the movie MacArthur, it was great acting by the late Greggory Peck who also stared in How the West was won, The Big Country, To Kill a mockingbird, 12 O Clock High, Moby Dick, he was just an all around great actor. I liked the scenes where he was in the Philippines which is my second country and where I met & married my late wife of 31 years was from and 2 of our 3 children were born there and of course my heart is there and I have the ultimate goal to return there & live out my life there & I should & ought to be where my heart is.

Very sadly the movie MacArthur was terribly underrated like all World War II movies about the war in the Pacific while about the war in Europe outside the Longest Day such as Patton and that piece of garbage Catch 22 were vastly overrated like always. MacArthur is by far a much better movie than Patton and so is Midway, Tora,Tora,Tora are also much better and of course vastly underrated.

McArthur was a great general, too bad Truman relieved him of duty, in the Korean War, old soldiers never die just fade away

The sad part was that Doug overreached his authority with his request to use nuclear weapons on the battlefield. Those type of weapons honestly are a political decision, then managed by the military. He skipped a huge step there and Harry batted him down, too harshly, IMO.
With the Chinese being supplied with Russian ordinance and possibly having their own or loaned nuclear weapons, the situation could have spiraled completely out of control.
