PowKiddy V90 Review (~$40 USD): + How to Setup Custom Firmware
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 авг 2024
- In this video we'll take a look at the PowKiddy V90 retro gaming handheld. When I bought this device, MAME vertical games would not scale correctly. That was, until I updated the firmware. This device is reminiscent of the Game Boy Advance SP but can play thousands of games on multiple emulators. In this video, we'll take this ~$30-$50 handheld and update it with the most recent firmware and have an awesome (and cheap) little retro-gaming handheld!

I so much appreciate your content. I don’t understand how your channel can be so underrated. I love Retro Game Corps stuff, as Russ does really well at the production. But in this case specifically, you were so much help. I’m lost when getting into this stuff and need walkthroughs. Please keep at it and I hope to see you reach 100k+ subscribers before long.
It is comments like yours truly make all the effort worth it -thank you! It would be awesome to have 100k folks watching my content someday but I'm very grateful for those that choose to stick around to see what's next. Thank you for watching and again for your very kind comment, definitely made my day!
@@WagnersTechTalk can you check if the update firmware sega genesis emu plays sega cd like its default firmware pico emu? Just add subfolder 📂 in genesis 📂 with sega cd 💿 game.
Just as a heads-up to anyone playing PS1 on this: Load it in PAL format in addition to the 1 frameskip. PAL uses 50 hz as opposed to the NTSC's 60, so the device doesn't have to work as hard and you'll get better performance. Some slowdown is still likely, though
Great tip. Thanks!
@@EobardKhan Glad to help. Now stop pestering Barry Allen.
Thanks. So damn the emu is pal 50hz, ooooffff, ok ill load tekken pal iso with 1 frameskip

Very good and comprehensive review. Thank you so much for the walk-through as well for the custom firmware. Your channel is very underrated and deserves far more views and subscribers. Thanks again!
Thank you Mark, I really appreciate your kind words!
I'm not sure if you read this. But man o man! As someone who is not good with computers or files I have to say THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO! I was able to follow your instructions, download what needed to be downloaded and now I've installed the new version to my Powkiddy v90! Thanks man I really appreciatte
Hi Ivan, Yes indeed I read these comments! Thank you so much for your kind words and so happy to hear it's working well for you. You are definitely welcome! Just fyi - many more guides may be found here, if interested: wagnerstechtalk.com/guides/
thanks for the hand mate. typically avoid doing stuff like this because i'm not really terrific at it.. Just followed the instructions and it's all swell!
You're very welcome!
Great video, thank you, I hope to be smart enough to update the firmware! :D
You got this, thanks for watching!
thank you mate for including the instructions for installing the custom firmware - it was my first time doing this and it was really helpful :)
Very welcome, glad it was helpful to you and thanks for watching!
Really enjoyed the video I just ordered a black one and I'm excited to be able to play every game boy advance game I have as a kid for my sp. Love that there's extra shoulder buttons and front facing buttons!
Great video! Thanks alot, mine is coming today.
Hope you enjoy it!
Great video, this helped so much
Thank you, glad you found it helpful and thank you for watching!
Thanks for the tutorial. So excited for my V90 to arrive
No problem 👍 Hope you enjoy it! In the video description is a link for some extra batteries if you need them in the future.
Thanks! If I need one I'll try to remember to order through the link
@@march11stoneytony Always appreciate the support! Let me know once your V90 arrives and what you think about it. Still loving mine.
@@WagnersTechTalk I love the device, but cfw installed on 2 brand new SDs (using 3 different PCs and SD adapters) keeps crashing. One install ran great for 30 minutes before deteriorating.
The stock card runs Game Gear perfectly, otherwise crashes on all games. It hasn't deteriorated like the other cards though.
@@march11stoneytony Not sure I understand. Are you saying the card gets corrupted after some period of time? I've used the same card since this video was created (128GB Gigastone), still runs great and plays just fine after nearly a year. What brand card are you having trouble with?
Pulled the trigger on the V90, JUST got the BLACK model today in da mail!!
just trying to flash Miyoo right now. =D
Great review by the way.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video!
Just for the sake of argument, why did you stress that the custom SD should not be used? Is it for the sake of having a backup, or is there a different reasoning?
Thank you
You mean the original microSD I think, yes to have it as a backup or incase anything gets hosed with the custom you can always go back to the original. Then there is the other point that most included microSD's are of questionable quality. Sometimes you get a good one, but often times they are very cheap.
Love this video
Hi there @wagner, we've accidentally de-selected "Executaobele" on the P90 GBC in the Console selection screen, is there any way to enable this? Or does this need a copy of the full card with a backup?
Thanks for the video, might try and upgrade after I've fixed this issue! ;)
I'm not quite sure I understand what was deleted. If you have a backup of your original, a restore won't take but about 10 minutes so that may be faster.
very helpfull video.
Thank you so much
Very welcome, thanks for your support!
In the main menu where you select the console you want to play. Is it possible to change to only show nes, snes, gbc, gba and settings?
In the custom firmware, yes you can press the SELECT key and delete the icons for any emulators you don't want to show up in the list.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it

Can you install this for me if I send you my v90 and PayPal you $13.33

Very welcome and Thank you for the 1.99 thanks!
Is there any updates on L2 & R2 support for the PSX Emulator? Currently you are unable to map those buttons they do not respond. There are other threads saying the same thing.
Not to my knowledge.
NxHope is good, but I'd very much recommend the TriForce Miyoo CFW... Compatible with the V90, Q90, A20 (that Famicom-appeal 2.8" screen handheld), and lots of other handhelds, comes loaded with gmenu2x themes & pretty well optimized apps and emus! PSX runs like a charm, even got 60 fps on SNES, no frameskip & I just turned audio quality to 8192... Love these little guys, and great yet to see a review & tips and tricks guide, there's plenty fun had just setting these up. Happy to see more enjoy their games a bit better, I love the clamshell design myself since I've had rotten luck before damaging screens.
There are people who make 3d printed "handles" for these, too! Sweet idea to have, but I'm impressed still for $40 well spent. Can handle a 128GB card decently, so despite some crashes & freezing, it's survived well and I get my games and tunes on the fly. Galaga, few and far between finding them, or so it seems nowadays, so always welcome getting more play! Thank you for sharing and hope the holidays are just as awesome for your family! :D
Thank you so much for your kind comments and additional experiences with the V90! For the price, it's hard to beat. I have some handhelds that cost much more and the V90 gets more use. It's just the right size, still easily pocketable and the folding design is great. Very happy that I bought this unit and didn't set it aside because it was considered a "cheap" device. It is worth much more than I paid for it and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. I hope you and yours also have a wonderful Christmas/Holiday! Thank you again for your comments and for watching the vid.
How did you add games to mame? I really want to play Donkey Kong but it dosen't detect it.
Make sure the MAME games that you add are from the Advanced MAME romset for it to work.
I'm not sure if it was an option a year ago but I bought mine directly from Powkiddy and they were really friendly, if a bit hard to understand because of the language barrier. My local post office actually stamped it return to sender and when it got back to them they fixed the address and sent it back out no extra charge
Thank you for your feedback Nicholas!
has this process changed? after installing the firmware the only partitions I see in the partition wizard is boot, other, linux swap and other. and theirs no mains directory just boot.
Not as far as I know. Make sure to boot from the card first, then check with disk genius (or similar). Should see a roms folder
when making the partition, I set the slider all the way to the right as to take the maximum amount of space. was that incorrect? mine is running fine and able to take roms
If it's the Games partition, yes you should be all set!
Do you have an alternate download for the CFW image? The download doesn’t work for me
This one seems to be working fine: github.com/TriForceX/MiyooCFW/releases/download/1.3.3/pocketgo-cfw-v1.3.3.7z
can you run ps1 games that are not 3D? like megaman x4 or castlevania?
Most likely, you can also go into the emulator settings and adjust the frameskip option. Tekken 3 struggled, but other less demanding PS1 games may be more playable.
How can i add regba to the emulators? I can’t get it to work
I just bought one on Amazon already made a custom firmware sd card. Does the custom firmware help performance any? How is it with loading game list I have about 5,000 games im putting on it. I just like the idea of having every nes, snes,gb,gbc, gba on it, that way its the ultimate Gameboy 👌
I didn't notice improved performance with the new firmware, the primary difference was the ability to scale properly in MAME. Game lists will load relatively quick (1-5 seconds typically). Of course, depends on the # of games per emulator (not in total).
Thanks for the video. It helped me greatly. I donhave 2 issues that maybe you can help me with. When I loaded my Neo Geo games into the system, they will not run. The emulator tries, but just goes back to the game select menu. The other issue is I loaded Coleco vision games into the correct folder, but when I open that emulator it doesn't see any games. Maybe the Roms are in the wrong format. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
The Coleco Vision likely needs the bios file. Also, for NeoGeo make sure the neogeo.zip (this is not a link to a file, YT thinks it is) file is copied to the same directory as your games. It looks for that first, then loads the rom files. Hope that helps!
Thank you forbyour video. The battery that comes with it doesn't last, do you recommend a better one ?
Very welcome, thank you for watching. Please see the video description for a replacement set of batteries. They were recommended to me, I purchased them and work well. Hope that helps!
Thank you, I'll get it.
Good day Wagner's Tech Talk, quick question here (not sure if I've asked you before =P) but were you able to get the Amiga emulator UAE4all working on the V90?
I DID get it running where you get past the "need kick.rom" screen but when I try to load a rom the emulator does not actually see any of the zip roms in the roms folder, but they ARE there...
Any help you can offer would be appreciated, I have not been able to find anything other than threads of people who ALSO can't get UAE4all to run games on their V90's. =(
Thank you in advance, I know you are a busy bee. =)
I've honestly not installed any Amiga games to the v90. But yes, you'll need the kick.rom file for sure. I can't offer much advice at this point. If I do try it out, I'll comment back.
@@WagnersTechTalk Thank you, lol no rush, at this point it IS an old system. =P
I've not tried this on the v90 (you can ignore parts about discussing the .opk), however you may find some helpful information in the video + Setup here for the RG350: wagnerstechtalk.com/rg350tips/#Amiga_Emulator_UAE . See if any of this helps, if not ping me back and I'll check into it more.
@@WagnersTechTalk Thank you so much for the reply, I actually am quite familiar with that video, I'm kinda OCD about You Tube tutorials, after loosing a 256gb ADATA brand sd card in my RG350 and a 128GB Lexar brand sd card in my V90 (I'm now only using Sandisk) I've been meticulously cataloguing Bios, updated emulators and procedures with screenshots of web pages for these devices as well as downloading You Tube tutorials, including some you have done (as well as your Amiga RG350 vid) for me to always have on hand for later, not to mention I'm making images of my progress just in case =P I have an idea or 2 and I'll let you know, cheers! =)
Just wondering if I wanted to take my sd card from my pocketgo v1 and stick it in here would that be possible?
I personally haven't tried it, but I don't think so.
Would anyone be able to share a link or guide to how to use the Commodore 64 Emulator? I'm not sure how to get passed the command prompt and load the game. Thank you.
Do you lose the built-in quake 2 game though if you customize the firmware? Kinda afraid to update if I lose all the cool stuff on the side.
Remember, you're installing to a NEW card (not replacing the original). So, you can always swap back to the original card if you want/need to.
@@WagnersTechTalk here’s something, just got it in the mail, can’t run some SNES games or PS1 games on default software…is there a way to migrate the perfectly running (however it’s done) quake 2 and some other games into the new firmware?
Tried the new CFW, it’s backfiring. None of my Neogeo games run now. I do have some PS1 games that run now but for whatever reason it crashes with Neogeo now.
Ideally I can do ps1 and neogeo. No real benefit to SNES, Starfox 2 still doesn’t launch. This is a long-term troubleshooting move unless I need to change the file type or unzip my neogeos.
@@konosword5980 make sure the neogeo.zip file exists in the same folder has the roms. Should work.
When i copy my games, and finished with the long process you did, does the new sd card have the game folders already in? Or do i have to add the folders from the previously used card?
You'll want to copy your games from the backup mentioned in the video.
@@WagnersTechTalk so do I have to make my own atari folder
When you make a backup copy of your original card 09:53, it has all the folders you need. After flashing the new firmware to a separate card, just copy the roms back to the new card. The folders already exist under the backup of the
oms folder.
also, on my device there is the Stella emulator with the custom firmware. That would point to your
oms\atari2600 sub folder (may be just 2600).
Where do I put the roms at? Do I gotta make a new folder. When I open the sd card in windows there aren’t any folders to put them. Just the boot
You're likely looking at the wrong partition (Drive letter). Look for the one that's labeled 'main'. See 12:24 for more.
@@WagnersTechTalk I actually figured it out. I was trying to use the old sd card that came with it. Tried formatting it. I tried a new card and it worked. Thank u for responding :)
Even after the firmware update I still couldn't get the L2 and R2 buttons to work. Are they fake buttons? Also I was able to copy the new MAME4ALL from the V90 over to the original BittBoy and now it also has proper vertical scaling for MAME games 👍.
What game were you trying to get working with the L2/R2 buttons and I'll try the same. Glad you got MAME4All on the V90 running and on the original BittBoy (haven't fired mine up my BittBoy in quite some time) 👍😎
I want to play PSOne Odd World and Tomb Raider which need L2 and R2 buttons. Odd World plays at full speed. Tomb Raider is a little slower but playable.
Hey, I bought this a while ago, got an sd card, and followed your instructions exactly, file manager keeps popping up saying I need to format various partitions such as :e or :f, if I do, then it will be stuck in the loading screen when I put it back into he v90, if I don’t, it will work fine then when I plug it back into my computer to add more games or change something it will corrupt itself as soon as I put it in, I’ve tried 2 different brand new San disk sd cards and tried them both, any idea what might be going on?
Don't do what Windows tells you, it's wrong. Follow the instructions, if Windows states to format ignore/cancel it. You'll be up and running in no time!
@@WagnersTechTalk thanks for responding, ill try again
Doesn't booting it up in the V90 fix the partition as well?
If shutdown improperly or corrupted, it will perform a disk check and attempt to repair it. *Note - shutting it down manually as shown in this video is recommended to avoid a lengthily disk check from an abrupt power off.
Cool
How do I get L2 and R2 buttons to work? Twisted Metal 2 runs smooth but I can't shoot.
Try loading up the game, press the middle menu button, move down to Controls, select Player 1, highlight the L1 button, select it and press the left top button (L1) to map it, do the same for R1. Press 'A' to back out a few times and see if that helps.
I added the firmware and everything works great… except 1 thing… the audio is completely gone. Any help?
That not something that someone has reported to me, I don't have an answer. I'd restart, try adjusting the volume on the sides and see if that fixes it. If not, honestly don't know.
im having issues with setting this up. i followed the steps but I still cant access the files to move rooms over
Double-check that the "main" partition is FAT32.
How can i copy mp3 or video files to q90? Thanks alot 🍀
Stella in stock firmware too but no image is shown
The SD card that came with my powkiddy v90 got corrupted and I’m trying to figure out how to do this but it seems pretty complicated for me 😅
My recommendation would be to see if you can copy the existing roms/bios files from your current microSD to a folder on your computer. Then, try flashing the new firmware to a new microSD and copy all your roms/bios files back. That should help you get back up and running on the v90.
@@WagnersTechTalk Thank you! I will try this first thing when I get home! 🙏 you’re the best RUclips channel for this stuff
I appreciate that, thank you! After flashing the new microSD, don't forget to boot once, then shut it down before attempting to copy your files.
@@WagnersTechTalk I'm having the same problem as him and after writing it immediately says "you need to format the disk in drive f: before you can use it. I've done it on 3 sd cards. Now when I put in the original I can't find the files. After skipping them format error I put in the new sd card it works as normal with the new firmware but it won't load any of the roms I put in.

It's been around a year since I used the stock firmware, it "might" have had a JRE pre-installed. Not sure.

Ha ha, I can totally relate!
cant find powkiddy v90 in the firmware section??
First, go here: github.com/TriForceX/MiyooCFW/wiki/Custom-Firmware-Setup#pocket-go then expand "English" and select the download link for the V90. Should be good to go!
mini tool partition didnt work for me, i went to extend partition and clicked "ok" then never got another pop up to click "yes". shows it extended on the mini tool partition app but not when I actually check the space of my sd card.16gb card and says i only have less then 1g to use as space. followed every step too
Here are some instructions I created using a different tool, Disk Genius: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Expand_a_Partition See if this helps, it's a bit more detailed.
I figured it out, for the updated version of the mini Partition tool after you click "ok" you have to click "apply" at the bottom left or else nothing will happen and you'll be stuck one step. Overall your video is awesome and right to the point. Thanks for the additional help!
Awesome, happy to hear you got it working and thank you for letting me know what the issue was. I'll try to remember that incase someone else runs into the same issue. Of course, always welcome (even though I wasn't much help) 😎

If you press SELECT+X you should be able to get into the setting to save/load state in RetroArch.
is there any reccomended replacement for the battery ?
Hi Richard, please see the video description for a link to replacement batteries.
Why after flashing the custom firmware my SD card low on space. Try extend partition but always fail error 4. Format SD card then repeat the process but always stuck at error 4. Please help me... 😂😓😥
What size card are you using? If it's 16gb or higher should be able to extend the partition unless there is something wrong with the card.

You can add it back by pressing select to Add/Edit and browse to /mnt/apps/mplayer, I think.
Hey there! Me again. As a stupid bimbo it seems my tf card disintegrated from existence! (Its just disappeared and cant find it) Do you perhaps know a way to import the original factory files into my blank tf card? I had an extra hoping I could get the files onto it. 😭
There doesn't appear to to be a CPS or Gamegear folder in the custom firmware roms folder?
Hi Mike, same here those two subfolders are missing in the CFW.
When i try doing the same method though my v90 is now stuck in it's startup screen 😟

oms\NES as an example. It should be the partition labeled "main".

@Andrew Thatcher, I'd check it in the Partition wizard, the "Q90" partition of the default 16gb card should have have a windows letter designation. It's OK if the "boot(FAT)", "rootfs(ext4)" & "(Linux Swap)" partitions don't have letters of their own.

Try ejecting and re-inserting the microSD card and see if it shows up. Cancel any dialogs to format the microSD card.
Thanks for the reply! I put the microSD in the v90 just to confirm the firmware was running properly which it was then I had to do some things so I left the microSD in the v90 then later I went to start the process again and when I put the microSD it showed up with the letter changed to main and I was able to add my roms! Will this work for the Original PocketGo as well?
I've not personally tried it on the Pocket Go, but it does state it will work: github.com/TriForceX/MiyooCFW/wiki/Custom-Firmware-Setup#pocket-go
Could you recommend a good brand of a micro SD card?
Sure, I like Samsung and Gigastone myself for a device such as this. I've never had an issue with either brand and you can find either fairly cheap in 64GB or 128GB capacities. But these are just my personal preference.
hi, could someone give me a link with the games? they were deleted by mistake ... thanks!!
Sorry, I cannot for the reasons stated here: wagnerstechtalk.com/rg350tips/#Installing_ROMs
Idk if you’re still responding to these but I cant transfer all my games back to the larger sd card. It says I still need 1.7gbs even though it’s a 64gb like yours and I followed all the steps exactly… any thoughts? I tried extending the partition further but it still didn’t let me
Make sure you extended the fat32 partition with the roms. If you extended a different partition, you'll need to resize that one back down to extend the ones for the games.
@@WagnersTechTalk the FAT32 is the one I extended
@@justsalive4477 double check you applied the change and that it shows it was extended. One viewer mentioned a month or do ago a new version required one more step.

Well whatever the case I appreciate the response, I was able to transfer everything but had to do it individually for some odd reason. It wouldn’t let me copy the Roms back to the new SD card in one lump sum. Thanks anyway! 👍
Hey Wagner's Tech Talk! =D Love my black V90 as does me wife, she has been enjoying Wonder Boy on MAME for the past week. So last night I finally updated from 1.3.1 to 1.3.3 and yet I still cannot figure out how to save MAME games? I have done a few searches over the past week to remedy this issue but found nothin'. Any help you could offer would be GREATLY appreciated. Ty. =)
Same here, one of my favorite handhelds to play! I assume you're talking about Save States under Mame4all? Yeah, it doesn't have that on this device. The typical SELECT+X doesn't bring up RetroArch. I think for MAME it's just a standalone emulator.
@@WagnersTechTalk Awesome, thx for the response. We've also been playing 2 player Wonderboy on my Pi3b+ in a nespi case+ over the past 2 weeks and are both near the end, fortunately you CAN save there. At least we have endless quarters, but that doesn't work for MAME games like Volified. I may have to buy an additional 128gb and experiment with retroarch. 128gb IS a great size as TG-CD and Sega CD take up the bulk of the room and run GREAT on the device, But... my Sega CD saves keep corrupting, I've had to restart Popful Mail a few times now, and that is unacceptable imo. =\
Are you able to put romhacks on this and if so how? Also great video
I haven't, but it's just another rom file so should be no issue doing so. Thank you for you kind comment!
Hey bro, I just watched your video and I have one question. Can the micro SD car be of any brand or does it have to be the same that you are showing on your video?
Any brand you trust should work fine. If you need info. on how to make a backup copy of your microSD, here's some instructions for that as well: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/
is there a option for turn off (.sav) file in my game collection ? it really annoying
Each emulator operates differently, you'll just need to check the settings for each and see or make manual save states.
can you show how can i add another language to system ?
If you go into Settings, select language and press the Left / Right direction to change the language.
I have a problem when I increase the size of the main partition, my console freezes at the MIY00 screen
When you say the main partition, it's the partition which contains the roms subfolder that you want to expand.
So I mean the folder where the ROM folders are, before enlarging and inserting into the console everything turns on, when I increase the size of the "main" partition, the console hangs on the MI00 logo and does not want to go any further. I tried on different SD cards and the same problem all the time.
I'm using a 128GB microSD, checked it out and the main (FAT32) partition is fully expanded and no hanging on boot. That means it may be an issue with the latest build. You can report an issue here: github.com/TriForceX/MiyooCFW/wiki/Custom-Firmware-Setup . Also, double-check you downloaded the correct V90 firmware.
How do the Gameboy advance games work after you update the firmware?
Is it all full speed and such? As I really want it just for that, I got the "5180 Games 3 Inch Retro Handheld Game Console Player with 3 Emulators for Genesis for Nes for GBA Support TF Card Save&Load
"
And I'm hoping that works well enough even though I can't find any site to update the firmware, which since I won't get it till.. dec something I'm hoping just works out, but if not, this will be my plan B... As all I wanna do is play some gba...
However I have to ask on the v90 does metal slug work on the mame emu?
Sorry for so many questions and hopefully you see this, as I'll instantly subscribe you, or anyone else can help me with any of these questions...
Actually I have to sub anyway as your channel is 1000% up my alley in what it covers
I can’t get the “main” file on the sd card. I just get “ boot h” and not “main h” I followed every step and nothing. What am I doing wrong. Please help. I formatted the card I did everything. It shows the main file on the mini tool partition program but not on my sd drive.
hey man did you find out? having that issue right now
I finished installing CFW for it, but when you say copy the roms backup onto the card, I'm not seeing a CPS folder on the card. I copied everything else like nes, but it seems its missing some folders the backup rom had
I'm not seeing a gamegear (gg) folder either.
for GG, the folder is SMS. Supported emulators are here: github.com/TriForceX/MiyooCFW/wiki/Emulator-Info
@@WagnersTechTalk Thank you so much!
is there any way you could play a mario 64 port on this
Unfortunately no, the CPU isn't powerful enough.
@@WagnersTechTalk thank u so much for letting me know
Couldn't find any info but can this run daphne emulation?
No
@@WagnersTechTalk Ok, That's what I figured. but thank you for reply much appreciated.
RE: Custom firmware. Wouldn't it be easier to just burn the image with Balena Etcher? (Then using the system tools to extend the partition of course.) Anyone tried that?
It may work, I went by the instructions offered by the developers. If you give it a try using Etcher and using System tools, please let me know the results. Theoretically, should work but haven't tried it that way in this case.
@@WagnersTechTalk It'll take some time till the device is here but I'll let you know.
Can you copy over save files?
I didn't try this specifically, but pretty sure you can.
But which Pokemon games can you play on it?
I don't play Pokémon much. But for each of the emulators, you should be able to play them.
Just installed the cfw but now when I click on a console, it just goes back to the menu screen 🙈 and I can’t locate any games!!
Not sure what I’m doing wrong here.. any ideas?! 🙏🏼
See 12:52, if you copied the games to the appropriate folders (and bios), you should be in good shape.
@@WagnersTechTalk thanks..! I actually paid this awesome tech guy to do it, but we can’t figure out why the games aren’t accessible, even though he copied them back to their specific folders?! 🙈
@@WagnersTechTalk Hi, I am the guy helping this person, I put all the roms over as per the video at 12:52 but they dont show up....where is the BIOS file located please as maybe I missed that file. thank you
I should also mention that when I use the built in file manager all the roms show up.....just not working under any of the emulators....but main games such as Hexen are working fine ?
@@benbuob5206 When you launch the emulator, you'll see ".." if the correct directory isn't selected. Tap the ".." to go up a level, if you go all the way to the root, select /MNT/ROMS/ and the correct subdirectory that contains the games you want to play and that matches the emulator (i.e. GameBoy, select the GB sub folder under /MNT/ROMS/GB). Then, select the game and play. If you don't see the games, it's either because A) You didn't browse to the correct path where the games reside B) The games haven't been copied C) The microSD card isn't formatted as a FAT32 filesystem (as recommended here: github.com/TriForceX/MiyooCFW/wiki/Custom-Firmware-Setup#pocket-go ). That should get you going.
Hey i bought a 64gb sd card to try and use to add more games to this new sd card instead. followed all the steps and when I boot up it shows up with only 255mb free and when i open that folder it shows a few files in it,one is boot.scr,ect. I tried putting the sd card into my powkiddy and it runs fine, it just wont show up properly on my computer. Is there a step I missed or have you come across this before? Hope i didnt corrupt my sd card
A kind viewer mentioned to me last week that in Partition Wizard there is an "Apply" button added when resizing the card in the latest version. Double-check for that when expanding the card. If that works, let me know and I'll add a comment to the video description.
If the above doesn't help, I also have a guide here for a different tool, Disk Genius, that should: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Expand_a_Partition
@@WagnersTechTalk that was me who made that comment :) lol
lol, I'm old and my memory isn't quite what it used to be sometimes. Check out the guide above, should work for you. At least I remembered the solution you mentioned previously. Maybe my memory isn't a total loss 😀
@@WagnersTechTalk i tried and it didnt work for me with the new program. is it possible i corrupted the sd card by trying too many times?
roms for powkiddy v90 link
Anyone knows how it's possible to do a factory reset for this device?
If you made a backup of the microSD card, you could restore it from the backup. If you haven't or don't know how, have some instructions here: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Backup_Clone_a_Drive
Love my v90 I nearly beat tactics ogre now I'm on final boss battle and a lot of gba games I already beat but the bad thing about this handheld is the save function not work well on most of the games even though my q90 SD card has corrupted I still playing using my v90 SD since it's the same card..👍
Hello sir can you tell me, where do I place in the roms directory of the new firmware the games inside the GG folder with .gg extension of the original firmware?. Thank you.
Hello Manuel, I think if you place them in the SMS (Sega Master System), they'll play fine. It's been a little while, if that doesn't help please let me know.
@@WagnersTechTalk Thank you very much, i will try and commennt here😉
yes sir, this work in this folder, THX😉👍
@@manuelsolsona5795 Great news, most welcome!
i have to use the sd card it comes with, is that alright?
No, this video shows you that you can download a custom firmware and then copy your own games to the custom firmware. I recommend the CFW, much better than the one it ships with but use a NEW card and keep the original card.
@@WagnersTechTalk ok, thank you!
Can I do the firmware on a Chromebook?
I'm not sure, I don't own a Chromebook. Perhaps someone else will be able to answer.
Excellent tutorial. I followed it and it worked and now I have miyoo on my powkiddy q90.
But I can't get the mame roms working. They all have the press ok to continue message. Is there a way to get around this or should I find other mame roms specific for this system?
Thank you Dan, glad you got it up and running! For mame, make sure you're using the v0.37b5 romset and most games should play. However, you will see the ok to continue splash message (just arrow left, right, left usually). There may be a way to disable this in the emulator but not sure what that is off-hand.
@@WagnersTechTalk thank you. It does work.
It's now a brilliant little handheld that didn't cost me much.
@@danthaman03 It really is a great value for the price. It's one I'm not afraid to take with me anywhere.
@@WagnersTechTalk I like it. Especially with the custom firmware.
Some emulators don't seem to work ie colecovision and amiga but other than that the important ones are there.
Any that don't work likely just need the BIOS file(s).
So I have a really stupid question, how do I find the NES? I have "GB, GBC, GBA, FC, SFC, GG, MS, MD, PS, NGP, WS, PCE, ARCADE, CPS, NEOGEO, mame4all." Nothing on my device says NES! Sorry to ask here but I asked on Reddit and they talked to me like I was dumb
On your firmware, NES games will be in the FC (Famicom, Japanese version of the NES). If/when you upgrade to the firmware mentioned in this video, you'll see an NES subfolder under
oms\NES. Hope that helps!
Will this fix the gba savestate issue?
With the MiYoo firmware, in gba, I can save/load a game state. Yes.
@@WagnersTechTalk epic, the original firmware saved sometimes but was so inconsistent, the new firmware saves much more consistently so far, unfortunately the save states from previous firmware freeze up the system trying to load then on new, so have to start fresh now. Wish I had found this video before spending hours playing on old
Does this have Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories on it? It should be under GBA.
Mine does, can't recall if I added it. I think I copied over everything that was existing on the original microSD to the updated firmware microSD. I did add a number of MAME games, however.
@@WagnersTechTalk Okay, thanks for letting me know!
I bought mine for 22.70, with patience the price was 27.50 2 weeks earlier, hesitation paid off, it's not here yet, just bought it literally 1 days ago
Awesome, that's a great price!
@@WagnersTechTalk yeah, can't wait to follow your guide and set up some amazing custom software
