I saw them at the Durban City Hall live. What a concert! Thousands of thousands girls screaming and fainting. Chasing their car. Every kind of fanatical hysteria you see with the beatles and others. What a completely unique phenomenon in South Africa. Never happened again. They were brilliant though and most all went on to mega fame and stardom in other massive bands overseas.

    *CHARLIE* Lyrics
    Loving you is easy
Such a beautiful thing to do
Though at times you hurt me
I buzz each night on you
Oh, what times we've had together
    What crazy things we've done
    Enough to fill my memory
    And keep me loving
    Charlie
    Charlie
    Charlie
    Charlie
    As dogs go you're groovy
    Not as predictable as some
But you're not as paranoid as Lady Marmalade
    You're really much more fun
Hell, at times I get so mad
When you buzz on someone new
It's not that you don't love me
It's just that I'm too selfish to consider sharing
    Charlie
    Charlie
    Charlie
    Ooh Charlie
You've filled my head with new ideas and filled my heart with sun
So I'd like to take this time right now to thank you for what you've done
You and Lady Marmalade are everything I need
The two of you and the music deep inside of me
    And watching you sleep
    Side by side
    Makes me breathe
    Gratefully
    I love you Charlie
    Charlie
    Charlie
    Ooh Charlie
    Charlie
    Charlie
    Charlie
    Charlie, oh
    Charlie

Embarrassing that they tried to continue without him and released a Roller pop-sounding album called Rock Rabbitt- but hey the show must go on and of course, this show quickly came to an end - Duncan joined the aftermath of The Bay City Rollers which fizzled out to nothing - Ronnie started making music for kids - Neil joined the family furniture business and Trevor went on to join Yes and is the only South African to ever be inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame - but .......they were South Africa's greatest rock band ever!

I met Duncan about 23 years ago while he was living in South Africa (Pretoria -East) in his mother's old house, with his wife. She is/was an American and had no idea aside from what she was told, of what a big deal Rabbitt was . Duncan wasn't in a good place at the time. Financially struggling. He told me that too much drugs basically ruined his career. He also told me that Rabin's brother was a lawyer and he took firm control of Trevor's finances from the get go and that amongst others saved Trevor's bacon. Duncan is now a feature in Vegas where he continues to make music. I met him twice after Pretoria and he was very friendly and down to earth.

The first 'Rollers' album with Duncan was actually quite good. Stoned Houses, Ride My Elevator, Turn on the Radio, Instant Relay, etc. Good rock/pop, didn't fly in the US, though.

What I don't understand is why Trevor bailed on the band shortly after the group signed a recoring contract with a major U.S. Label? Surely it wasn't due to lack of creative control, as he wrote pretty much all the material on their first two albums. However, rather than go to America as originally planned with the rest of his mates he quits the band and goes to England instead to try and start a solo career that ends up going nowhere. Fortunately, for him, he showed enough flash and talent to be selected to try out for two new bands - Asia and the remnants of Yes comprising of Chris Squire, Alan White and Tony Kaye. He picked right collaborating with the guys from Yes as it led to so much more for him. Crazy thing is Rabbit would of had huge success in America. They had the looks, hooks and vocal chops to take the U.S. by storm, but it wasn't to be. It would have been interesting to see how his and Duncan's careers would have fared had Rabbit stayed the course and see what heights they would have climbed. Unfortunately, for us fans, we'll never know.

I think they broke up because the US tour was cancelled, because of the political situation in SA, their international plans and market were compromised, 1976, I think they would have had protests as we had in sport also, pitty would have loved to see where they would have ended up, their sound was unique

@@naasdyksterhuis6496 Funny, but some of Trevor's new material seems to pay tribute to his more pop laden days with Rabbit. It's quite good, actually.
