Even drying on low I have had things get matted and off looking. I am so glad that you have had good luck with it because easy care is always FANTASTIC!
So first let me start by saying I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS, I recently had surgery and spent time watching nothing but youtube and crochet vid's of course and I loved watching all of yours you are so informative. I plan on spreading the gospel about you and your series. Im also a huge fan of Gary at Urban Yarn as well!!! Keep them coming!! thanks...
That was very helpful for me. I stay away from wool & wool blends by choice but I like knowing what to expect of the yarn when I end up with some. Particularly the wear & washing! 🧶💜👍🏼
You are so talented, creative and knowledgeable. Thanks for sharing. I value your input. I’ve learned so much from watching your channel. Great review, thank you.
I regular wash and tumble dry my wool ease. Its pre-teen laundry skill proof. I have several hats, mittens, etc that are fine after several trips and are a few years old.
I haven't had luck with it in the dryer for things like sweaters, hats and poncho/shawls... I am wondering if it is something in the stitches... My socks have been fine in the dryer but then again, felting is kinda a good thing so I might not have noticed it...
When I lived in Mn, I used woolease for hats, scarfs and slippers. When i get better at crocheting cardigans, if my sisters want, I will try woolease for that. After all the time I have been crocheting, I am finally learning to make actual garments. Straight wool is a no for me, but I love working with Alpaca. I just need to become a better crocheter. I hope you have a truly magical and blessed week.
I am picky about 100% wool. There is rustic feeling wool that is great for sweaters but with an undershirt (I normally recommend undershirts just for hygiene) and there is 100% wool that is great for things like rugs but I would NEVER put on my body. A touch of wool is really nice though. I do love 100% merino wool and there have been a few BFLs that if I had all the monies... I would own sweaters in just that..
I've found that Wool Ease is a great yarn to work with and like you said it is a work horse yarn. I enjoy working with it. Wool ease is fantastic for winter sweaters even in New England you want your clothing to breath in the cold. That hat is so nice and still looks great after all these years. Thank you for tips and info.
I have a lot of people who don't understand the whole breathing is a good thing in winter wear. They think it is only important for hot weather. But if you are outside a lot... hypothermia can be aided by sweaty clothes... I remember years ago the Bear Grylls was talking on his show about keep movement down if you lost in below freezing weather because if you start to sweat you will be in a bad way much faster. I felt so vindicated!
Unfortunately a lot of people don't understand about the cold. I found out first hand when I was 16, and just moved to New Hampshire, my 1st winer in cold temperatures. I was raised in the south & didn't know. Take ❤
Thanks for sharing all the information. So knowledgeable on yarns really helps to let people know about different yarns On your hat could always put ear flaps on it..💜🧶💙🧶Be safe.
Love the hat it's like what I call a 2for one design on out side and a good design on inside that could be worn on out side thank u for the share of your knowledge.
Thank you. I love showing the back of my color work. It is just as pretty to me in a different way. I am always looking at the inside of sweaters to see how the colorwork is done. I was at the mall pre-C-19 and in one of the HIGH END stores I found a sweater that wasn't Fair Isle, it was woven... I was blown away but couldn't justify spending $500 on a sweater...
This was very informative. I love listening to you. I also find most winter garments too hot & never considered the natural fiber content would make a difference. Thank you for bringing that topic to the discussion.
Thank you so much!!! Most people think of wool as being too hot, but while it does retain body heat, it does breathe. I talk a little bit about that with the Hobby Lobby acetate yarn review too. Natural fibers mostly are warm or cool based on your body heat vs the outside temp. I don't use wool for summer because it can hold on to a little too much but Fall and Spring sweaters, I will still use wool.
Loved your hat!! Thank you for doing this video as it was very informative. I have not worked with wool ease as of yet. I was at JoAnn's today and was actually contemplating buying it. Yeah that didn't work, but someday I will and hopefully I can make something beautiful out of it. Hugs and loves my dear friend. Toodles for now.
Thankyou for the series. I fined it very helpful. Also I'm not a wool fan. I have my aid do my laundry cause I cannot go up and down my basement stairs. I feel bad asking her to lay things flat to dry or hand wash when she dose so much for me. 💋💋💜💜☕stay safe and huge hugs my dear friend
This is one you could machine wash, but air dry it on a table or a surface you aren't going to use. It doesn't take very long to lay it out. I am sure she wouldn't mind too much pulling it out to lay flat.
@@HappyCraftyHomemaker no I over though it. I have some caron cake and I think I use it to make a few slippers since my feet get so cold they hurt. I got the 3 caron cakes in my color and did not know it had wool in it I was watching some random person they read it I said no look at mine and had it sitting on shelf I didn't know what to do it don't go with the blanket. Any ideas? Please. 💋💋💜💜☕stay safe and huge hugs my dear friend
I use Wool-Ease for practically everything, knitted and crochet. I think it has better stitch definition and drape with knitting though. I look forward to making more knitted and crochet items with this yarn. A bath rug is also an idea I have in mind that I want to design.
@@HappyCraftyHomemaker sure thing! I was going to make it for the sink area. Not sure how wet it will get there. Right next to the bathtub would require a cotton or blend. Have you tried bamboo yarn for absorption?
@@icherishcrochetandknit309 I haven't but it is hypoallergenic so it wouldn't get gross if it gets wet. I have heard that hemp is absorbent and it is also hypoallergenic but it is a bear to work with.
I used WoolEase for the first time recently. I figured it would be a nice way to step into using some wool content. I really liked it. 100% wool is too much for me, but this is a nice mix. Thanks for the tips on washing it. I haven’t done that part yet 😊
It is a great touch into wool. If you find 100% wool too much, I would look for really deep sales on merino. Merino is finer and smoother. I am seeing it pop up in some higher priced big box yarns.
I haven't tried the worsted yet. I got the thicker one when I first started but I frogged it bc it was too bulky. So now that I have more experience I'll use it again with a bigger hook and btr suited patten. TFS
I should have mentioned that the bulky is different. I like the bulky one okay, it feels fine but it is quite chunky... It makes great cowls with a big hook.
Another fantastic review. I made a baby blanket with wool ease. Really enjoyed working with it. Haven’t used it since. It would be great in a cardigan, like you said. Hmmm. Ideas!! Lol
@@HappyCraftyHomemaker Yeah, for sure, right?! And I am also one of those women who don’t glisten or glow. Lol!! I sweat. So I do appreciate that advice!!
I am working on a colourway project similar to your lion brand wool ease yarn but it’s the homespun lion brand yarn 🧶 it’s got the same colours blended together
It's a nice yarn, my biggest problem with it currently and over the years is they don't have enough colors! And a lot of the colors are not my personal taste. I wish they would add some to their range. I'm loving this series so far! I enjoy hearing what other people enjoy working with.
Thank you for this, very informative. I have yet to make a garment and this gives me some things to think about. The only things that I have made with Wool Ease have been hats.
Thank you so much! Between it holding up well, being inexpensive, looking fantastic on the body and frogging out cleanly... It is a great yarn for working up a first time sweater. You can easily reclaim the yarn if you need to.
Great series. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on these yarns. I have only made a blanket out of the Wool Ease Thick and Quick. Have you ever made anything out of the original Caron Cakes? If so how would you compare Caron Cakes to Wool Ease?
Thank you so much! They are very similar but different. The care for me would be the same but the Caron Cakes are a little plumper and twisted/plied differently. I haven't had to wash Caron Cakes as much as Lion Brand, but with that wool content I would still say air dry.
She has been updating on Facebook. She is back in the hospital and waiting for surgery but there have been delays. She is trying to get released to her home until they can do it.
It's okay if you show us the dirty socks... just don't force us to sniff them!!! I've only used wool ease once, it was on sale. I didn't know it held up that beautifully (judging from that gorgeous white and red hat)... washed in cold water, that is. Pretty nice! I'm a sweat-er also. I never thought about fiber content in clothing, as I haven't made any garments yet (but plan to). Thanks for the advice on that, also!! How do you feel about cotton blends in clothing, considering we perspire more than the average person??
LOL!!! The natural fiber content thing is a really interesting thing to know in general. I didn't understand why I was sweating so hard in "light weight" sweaters until I learned that trick. I learned it from a tailor who made suits for men and women. He was talking about the fallacy of wool and went into detail about it. It was life changing for me in the South... Cotton blends are beautiful. I don't normally go for 100% any fiber in garments. I really love blends.
Can you recommend a yarn fiber that would work as well as wool. I am allergic and would like to use something other than acrylic all the time for sweaters and such.
Cotton and bamboo are good for year around but in the Winter won't quite hold on to body heat as well as animal fibers. You can add in linen and hemp for warm weather. Hemp is rough to work with but it washes softer and softer and softer the more you wear it and the more you wash it. Linen isn't quite as bad but is also just beautiful finished.
I see that the new wool ease you had is the hand dyed. I saw someone review the new wool ease in the skein & they said it was not as soft as the old. Have you seen it out & felt it other than the hand dyed?
I haven't gotten a fresh ball since the end of 2019. I will have to try it out and see... I hadn't heard about that. If so, that would be a real shame.
Cotton, bamboo, linen and hemp are all beautiful in garments. I would look for blends. Bamboo and hemp are both hypoallergenic so they are great for Summer and coverups that might get wet. But cotton and bamboo blends both are good for winter wear. They don't hold on to body heat quite as well animal fibers but are still warm and will give a nice stitch definition. Like I said, there is nothing wrong with a good high quality acrylic if you are allergic to animal fiber.
I knew I was going to enjoy this series. I have always loved doing research. So this is right up my alley. The more information I have on any one thing, the more I can enjoy it. Thanks Carrie.
A lot do that. There are quite a few that I would say are fine to machine wash with cold but air dry. It doesn't felt with one washing but.... Something like a sweater you want to have for many years with air drying you might get 2 season if you machine dry it. Air drying you will get 12 years...
I have never had a problem with washing/ drying in the machine on Woolease yarn. Been using it forever. But, I wash cool, dry low.
Even drying on low I have had things get matted and off looking. I am so glad that you have had good luck with it because easy care is always FANTASTIC!
I love the fair isle hat❤Thank you for this video, helps me out a lott

I've enjoyed Wool-Ease but I've only made blankets with it. I've noticed my Wool-Ease blankets are warmer/cozier than my 100 percent acrylic blankets.
