It's amazing how easy it is to mute strings when you don't want to and how hard it can be when you're consciously trying lol.
I feel that. The muting trick is how I just realized why my power chords sound so disastrously terrible 😂😬
@@Madchris8828 same!
@Benton Joseph yea, I've been watching on instaflixxer for years myself =)
Likeee 🤣🤣
lol…of course right!!!!
I like the way Justin teaches. Most RUclipsrs seem rushed for time but Justin teaches with patience. I appreciate that so much.
Most youtubers beats around the bush without giving a clear way unlike justin
Came here to say this 😊
Yes he is a good teacher
That Seven Nation Army riff using the power chords is a great exercise not only to learn the power chords, but to transition from the 10th fret to the second fret so quickly is difficult because not only are your hands moving up and down, but your fingers are coming closer together and farther apart depending on the direction you go. Educational, challenging, but fun! Great work Justin!
I never could understand what a Power Chord was. You did it man and a lot more. You are by far the best teacher I saw on RUclips!!!
My God! You are the man. Thank you, so much for this lesson. I totally suck at power chords. This is what the doctor ordered. Great lesson. I’ll be using this one a ton.
Picked up the guitar at 44 years old. Been self taught for just over year and recently found your courses. Started back at beginner one and every module is great. Thank you for the courses and I will definitely buy in once I finish the course. FYI..... Molly's Lip's is actually by a brilliant band out of Glasgow and one of Cobain's favorites: The Vaselines.
I came here to learn power chords, but I actually learned triad shape that can be moved around too. The utmost best guitar teacher, no doubt.
Glad I saw this. I think this is going to be the key I need to push forward with learning to change barre chords and use my 3 note note per string understanding. Thank you!
Absolutely great instructional video. My instructor has been working with me on power chords, but I just wasn’t grasping it. You opened up my eyes to them in less than 1/2 hour. As you say in the UK, cheers mate. 🤘
You cover everything, what a great job!
He is great
Set your gain between 3 and 5 😂 jk
So so great! How you explain the P Chords, your advice for practice and - most important for me - your emphasising the fun and the possibilities. When it sounds great, it's great. YES!!! YOU are great. Thank you so much 😊
You´re a great teacher. I watch your videos with my acoustic guitar and the help of youtube´s subtitles. So, at the same time learn to play guitar and learn English. Thank you very much. Greetings from Canary Islands, Spain.
Fantastic. . good on you
~Always enjoy the way you teach us. I am 65 but simply love my guitar. Have been watching you for a few yrs. Thx Justin.
Thanks Jason
Love this lesson particularly the practice excercises. Briliant
One of the best teachers I'ever seen. I will always appreaciate what you do Justin
Great lesson, Justin!! Thank you!!
You are the best teacher on playing the guitar, your explanations of things really makes you outstanding among teachers. Thank you for all you do.
It feels just like a one on one lesson, almost a private lesson with Justin, not just talking to the you tube masses. You certainly are a very good teacher…
Thanks Justin best guitar teacher out there doing your beginner course have your song app and have one of your books learning so much off you
Super useful. I did really enjoy it!
As an Uber - noob I am amazed that I find myself being able to follow you much more than any other online tutor/player and I am so grateful for it......Respect. But then I am brought right back down when you mention barre chords they are the bane of my life!
Wow. Impressed with the quality of this lesson. That part about muting strings is gold. Thank you so much
Absolutely awesome ❤❤❤
This is a good educational video. Thank you :)
You have a great teaching vibe and your videos are very helpful,,, Thanks very much !!!
This was an electrifying lesson Thanks Justin 👍🤘
Thank you! you have answered most of my questions with this video.
Hey Justin thats 1 of the best guitar tuition videos ive seen on RUclips , keep up the great work for me and the 7 thumb brigade out there 👍
Greatest music teacher I've ever seen! I've been following the free courses on the website, and I'll make sure to donate whenever possible, because you really deserve it!
Thanks for this!!! Got another guitar this afternoon and decided power chords are what I want to learn, this is perfect 🤩
Great video Justin, thank you.
Good explained...bravo
I started watching you years and years ago when I first started guitar. Now, here I am again!
I've been looking for this tutorial for 30 years! Thanks man.
You rock man!!!
One of the best lessons ever!! Just finished Justin’s great beginners course (app version) and I can’t wait to learn more! Strongly recommended to any beginner. So much fun! But this lesson is probably my all time favorite. Clear, full of great tips and fun songs to choose for practicing. Thanks Justin, you just outdid yourself!!!👍👍👏👏🙏🏻🙏🏻
Awesome lesson and thank you for sharing your tips👍👍💚
Love what you do 🎸Thank you !!!!!!
Justin is such a warm friendly guy and an ACE guitar teacher!
BEAUTIFUL! THANK YOU!
Thanks! Stayed away from power chords because I didn't understand how to mute strings. Very helpful instruction!
Thanks!
Many thanks for the super thanks and supporting the channel. It means a lot to Justin and the entire JustinGuitar team. Cheers 😊 | Richard_close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide & Approved Teacher www.justinguitar.com
Thank you for all your help on power cords thanks prescient it
Thanks for this wonderful lesson! I have learnt a lot Justin
Really enjoying getting in to power cords Justin, I’m a retired old guy (66) living the dream in Thailand, and up untill recently, stuck with the basic open cords forever ☹️.
I tended to play around with the guitar for a few weeks, then i might pick it up for 5 min every 6 months or so, mostly because I was bored of strumming c d g a f etc, and hadn’t come across a teacher like you.
Power cords 🎸🎼have got me in to jamming my new LP/ Yamaha thr10 with tons of great songs thanks to you Justin.
As others have said, your a great teacher, who doesn’t race through a lesson, or try to show off.
You have an easy going positive vibe, and a sympathetic understanding of the people learning these lessons.
Hey If I can offer a cheeky cool suggestion😎…if you don’t like baseball caps, I think you would really suit the 1920 Peaky blinder style cap, worn at a jaunty angle 🎸🎼🙏
Great help, thanks for million. I have bought my first electronic guitar in my over 40s and this helps me a lot :).
This was good, thanks, I've been using power chords off and on for a year or so but I've picked up a few tips here. 😊
Great video as always. Nice and clear for an ageing beginner. I would love a lesson on how to play Love is like Oxygen by the Sweet. It uses power chords with some nice picking to begin with… and its a classic
Wow, you have just closed a massive gap in my playing. Thank you Justin, you made this so simple
Thanks man!
The ‘dusty’ end of the guitar!😂😂 How true…time to polish my acoustic.
Muting also helps relax your hand.
You're an awesome teacher and i cannot thank you enough.
You just made this come together for me..Thanks
Thanks for sharing your little secrets that are a big help.
Hi Justin. I was listening to Rob Chapman recently and something he often says is, use these lessons as a resource but dipping in and out when needed. I first came across this recording of yours, some months ago, but having learned a little more since, have returned and feel it is more aligned with where I am as a student, so probably also worth emphasising - you can't learn it all in one go. Thank you for all these great lessons
Awesome video and thanks for sharing your tips 👍 💚
Great lesson! Justin! I got my jazz chords down. My son is kicking my butt on power chords. And then I taught him palm muting, and regained my "Dad is cool" status.
Hell yeah palm mutes are cool. I am working on my jazz chords now. Got tired of power chords plus I got those down.
Ive learned alot in the past few months. thank you.
Thanks for the video
Very VERY Good! Thanks!
Excellent video, clear, detailed, great ideas for practice, thank you
Awesome! Thanks man 👊
Just the lesson i've been looking for....
Hey Justin. I started out with your modules on the website and learned so much. I was watching the instructions for bar chords [sp?] and noticed the caveat for learning power chords first. So I have some beginner knowledge and can make the big bar chord shape but decided to move back to power chords. I learned Smoke on the water and just watched this lesson. I'm heading back to the website to learn all I can about power chords. Thanks again for sharing your experience and wisdom.
Great lesson!!!
Great advice
Brilliant!!!
U covered this lesson thoroughly. I got it good.
Cool. I'm self taught ( and I suck ) but these chord's up and down the neck is exactly what I was looking for. Subscribed.
Another great JG guitar lesson. Thank you.
Glad you liked it. Cheers 😊

This is the best barre chord tutorial on the net!
Thank you are great so
Thanks so much, greatest teacher on youtube
Great tutorial
Very nice!
Hello Justin, your course is just amazing it's been 4 months now that i started guitar and i'm improving day by day thanks to you.
I just wanted to share a QUICK TIP that i learned through my practice session: if you re struggling with a chord shape or a chord change or a song or anything, just practice it hard like for a week or more and when you feel frustrated just stop and move to something else, come back to it after a week or so you will find that you improved drastically at it or just mastered it.
i think that process gives your brain a time to rest toward that specific exercise and solidify your mind muscle connection to perform it.
like the gym basically u need to to have rest periods in between the sessions.
I'm not sure if it's really a thing but it works for me, hope this will help you guys as well.
I've had similar experiences. Extensive practice followed by a break does work.
Same
i've been playing about 18 months now and doing great but i've learnt that for me there is not much payback in practicing the same thing for any more than half an hour to an hour max. after that length of time my progress slows to the point of being totally unproductive but coming back fresh the next day it's like i've been practicing in my sleep and the progress comes quick. i'm ok putting in long sessions but i have to break it up into varying different exercises no longer than what i previously mentioned. i'm sure everyone is different but i'd suggest anyone with a similar problem to me tries the same. it's actually staggering to me how much you can improve a skill with small amounts of effort so long as you are consistent putting those small efforts in.
It do be like that.
Thanks for the tip, I have been struggling with the big F chord and I genuinely feel frustrated because the B and E strings aren’t ringing out. Again, thank you for this tip.
Hi Justin, thanks a lot for the dedication that you put in these videos, they are really helping me. Could you please make a lesson on how to play Thrasher by Neil Young? There are no tutorials on RUclips and your Neil Young tutorials are the best. Greetings from Italy
Great vid as always. 👍🏻Been a while since you have done a acdc tutorial justin.
Thanks
Thanks for the thanks 😊
Justin, you're the best!
Tanx x the lessons your top guy
Great video👍💯💯
Fantastic lesson!
Glad you liked it! Many, many more here: www.justinguitar.com

My prayers were heard, thanks Justin!
I am back to try again. Your open chords lessons got me in a regular gig with a band playing 12-string rhythm in an all-acoustic band 10 years ago. Often though when we did our covers I would have to watch the other guys play while all I could do was tap the beat out on the face of my guitar because I could not play barre chords. My problem was not in making the shapes, or getting all of the notes to ring clean on F-shape chords. My problem was hand cramps. I have long arms and a wide chest, my wrist would be bent at a full 90 degrees and after 30 minutes I couldn't even hold the neck of my guitar due to a hand cramp. Problem finally solved! I have turned the guitar so that the neck is next to my cheek, (like a classical guitar player). Now I can play for much longer periods. Needed to share with my peers here.
wow. all this time i never understood the “POWER CHORDS” and you just explained it very well. wtf…..?? im subbing
I have learned from him for 3 years, I would have given up without Justin. 72 years old is too old to start but I'm doing it thanks to him, PS his web course is terrific and it was free.
Tack!
Thanks again! Glad you're enjoying the course. Cheers :)
Great video. I learned a lot especially muting. I think I'll subscribe :-)
Great! :) I hope you subscribe and enjoy the content. :) Cheers
The "rants" are the little nuggets of critical wisdom. thanks for those!
Oh my... i do need an eletric guitar!
Very good ,calm ,tells you you may screw it up but keep trying. Can watch him all day like that painter Bob Ross.
Great video. Still new to it all so this was refreshing. QUESTION: Are there any beginner non-rock power chord-driven songs you would suggest?
That guitar is nice👌
Fantastic lesson Justin!
I was a bit scared to try this on my acoustic....It is still kicking my ass,but I think I can do it if I practice!
Its gonna be so much fun!!! 🙂
Thank you I've been trying to be accurate with power chords for decades and never learned to mute
Your videos make me so homesick because of your accent -- but I also learn a lot, so they're kinda bittersweet haha.
Thank you so much for your lessons!!
