WOW! I am just beginning to learn, I never thought of this until reading your post. I have been following along and telling myself, it just doesn't sound right what am I doing wrong?
Starting at 76, you have made it easier. Than if I had just tried this on my own. (Thanks for that) Played earlier at 9 years old for a year before my guitar disappeared, (Dad). Didn't like the delta Blues I was playing. So thanks buddy for the reintroduction into Guitar.
10yrs ago (when 25) I bought an electric and told myself I would gain a good grasp of guitar / music theory and build up to metal. Well I got bogged down in tab books and chord structures and did all my learning with a clean sound so never got to play with distortion, gain or indeed these power chords. I am going to start again and am going to jump straight into power chords and hopefully build up from there 🎉
Everybody gets in the game as a beginner all along the way. Thanks for keeping them in mind. 2014 I picked up your beginner lessons and you've kept me motivated all this time. Thanks for all you do!
I won’t go into anything too deep but thank you for your time and enthusiasm even when teaching complete beginner chords. I’m sure you have changed many peoples focus from bad things/ news to picking up a first guitar and heading in a different direction. Thank you 🙏🏼
For years, guitar amps were clean with a tiny outage. Then Marshall amps came along and things were never the same again! 😀 From about 1966 onwards, psychedelic, then heavy rock was born.
Marty you genius, this was my first experience with power chords where I actually knew what I was doing and it was amazing. Now I can make some nifty rock n roll tunes that sound wayyy better than 1 string picks
Thanks for doing a Power Chord lesson! It would be great if you continue on that road and make another few power chord lessons. Power chords seem relatively easy and even beginners can learn to play them, but definitely some techniques and combinations need to be shown. So looking forward to few new episodes about power chords. Rock on!
Marty thank you for doing these videos. I'm a 53 in ten days 54 but I'm picking up a electric guitar with my Boss Katana and trying to learn how to play my kids think I suck and I lost my mind but in time I want them to see if you believe and you work at it you can achieve it. And with your videos it helps me suck less lol. Hopefully in time my wife will appreciate your videos as well because she wants me committed right now because of how much I spent on my equipment. But it's cheaper than some things I could be doing to help with stress. Once again thank you for doing this
Thanx Marty I signed your newsletter today after watching random vids on and off for so long. This video in particular helped me create something worth making better over my time playing. Keep up the great and easy content. 🎸
You got to love power chords. I don’t ever make suggestions, but it would be so cool if you showed how to play “Over the Edge” by the Wipers. There isn’t too many quality videos out there. It’s such a fun rocking song that isn’t too difficult at all.
Awesome channel man! I’m a drummer who’s always loved & dabbled in guitars… I’ve learned more from you in a few minutes than other RUclips instructions. I will be supplementing Fender Play & other methods with your videos & lessons. Thanks!
I've honestly just been teaching myself E and A power chords , messing with both acoustic ;( I ring out a few more strings ) and electric this lesson really helps !!!! 😎🤙🤘
In my humble opinion Marty is the best guitar teacher online. He helped me in the beginning of my acoustic guitar journey. And now I'm learning with his help on my new electric guitar (Shecter solo II custom Les Paul) I received as a gift.
Hey Marty, been playing for just over a year and you’re the guy helping me learn. I appreciate the way you teach details. I might ask that you show or tell which strings you are strumming with the chords you teach. Maybe you do on other videos that I haven’t seen but I’ll keep watching! Thanks! Chuck k.
Ive been teaching myself guitar with Fender play, and recently been looking at power chords. Your method made so much sense and really helped me have that, ah ha! moment. WOW.... thanks Marty
POWER CORDS ARE JUST 5THS I played piano before learning guitar, still do play from time to time but I really wanna focus on guitars Putting guitar lingo into piano lingo is the easiest way for me to learn things, so when you said “power cords are constructed of a root and a fith” it blew my mind
@@MartyMusic hey marty i wanted to thank you two because i got my guitar 2 days ago and i wanted to play something recognisable and that suceeded because of you good explanation!!
Great lesson... to all you tutors who have tried to make money out of me all you had to do was this first lesson and I would have invested in you !!!!!
Thnx marty really like to watch all kind of video's you make. Especially the clear manor of explaining things, repeating and not showing off to much is why I keep watching!
Supernice! Thank u Sir! The simple things that I can add. Love them! Best channel! Interesting guitar! Just a singlecoil. It didn't look like the classic tele but maybe it was? I am trying to build a guitar. I made the body smaller than a Strat. To anyone out there who wants to give it a go, it's great fun. A tele is 4.3 mm thick so just find some pieces like that. Actually 3.8 cm to 4 cm will be enough. Glue'em together. Paint! Design your own shape.
Yes Yes hope you & yours are happy n well 🤘🏽👳🏾♂️🎸⚡💚 I wanted to say thank you soooo much. Your a great teacher. I played my first power chords with rift today & I'm over the moon. Your a fantastic teacher 👏🏽 I hope this message reaches you in good health & wealth & until next time..... Live strong & be well 👊🏽🤘🏽🤜🏻🤛🏽💪🏻👳🏻♂️☝🏾💚
Great video, thank you very much! I have a problem with my middle finger though. I have long and flexible fingers (but still soft and clumsy), and it would be easier for me to place not the index and ring fingers, but the index and middle fingers. However, as I understand it, this is WRONG. What should I do? I don't feel comfortable keeping my middle finger hovering in the air, being all relaxed between index and ring fingers, doing the job. Should I put my middle finger on my index finger (as if I have a cigarette there), or can I play with index and middle, or should I get over myself and play power chords with my middle finger hovering?
i’ve learnt the basic chords over the last 2 days so thought i’d move onto this next and i don’t know why i’m having so much trouble understanding these ones
QUESTION!!!!! g to d is a 5th but what exactly makes a fifth? like g to d isn't 5 perfect whole steps. its g,a, then b to c is a *half step* so is there a certain formula that needs to be followed for how to construct a 5th? for example g to b wouldn't be a fifth if we're going by g, g#, a, a# b
I have learned a lot with you on the Blues side of things!!! Thank you very much!!! And you know what? You than had no gray hair!!! 😁😁😁😁😁😁 Regards and keep been the best in what you do!!!
Marty you are the best guitar teacher on the youtube. I love your videos, everything is explain in very easy way that everyone can understand it. I wish you live in my city that you can teach me in live :). Dont stop what you are doing because it is great.
Just got my first guitar for Christmas at almost 41 years old. So far your videos have been a huge help. You mentioned a free kesson in the video but I can't find the link to it. Am I just missing it
Being a bass player muting the strings I'm not playing it is just second nature. Thanks for claryfing some details I lacked knowledge about powerchords.
Just bought an electric guitar for my 15 yr old goddaughter. She's smitten w it. tried to give her the exact same lesson, but she can't stop looking at her phone. No one ever mentions distortion and gain overdrive settings when discussing power chords and it leaves my power chords sounding. Wrong.
Try playing with an acoustic

Martys first and second electric guitar lesson discusses the setting on the amp and how the sound when you play the power cords

One of the many things that are great about power chords is that they are neither major nor minor so it makes soloing over them really fun.
