Jason Olson, a Jewish convert, and Jabra Ghneim, a Palestinian convert, discuss from their own backgrounds and perspectives the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.
How much of this conflict is a land dispute and how much of this is a religious/ideological war?
    What exactly is Zionism?
What is the separation, if any, between Hamas and the Palestinian people?
Do the Palestinians need a new approach?

Superb interview, both guests were well versed and qualified to address this topic. I was especially impressed with the cogent, articulate insights expressed by Jabra Ghneim -- especially his wonderful application of Latter-day scripture. This is one of the best, thoughtful and balanced interviews I have heard on the topics. I hope you will have both these men back to continue the discussion. Keep up the good work, Greg.

    Greg,
Thank you for the full video, this was what I was hoping to see when you posted the interview with the Palestinian Christian. It shows both sides of the argument and bring the humanity back to both sides. We are all children of God, that comes first. Extremely well done in keeping the corrosive nature of political rhetoric out of the conversation while sill allowing guests express their views.
    Thank you for this!

Jason seems a bit too confident about Israel being able to work with the PLO. The PLO gives a large cash payout and a lifelong pension to anyone who kills a Jew, or their family if they themselves die in the act. Seems like Jason saw a ray of hope in the Oslo accords, but until the PLO abandons this type of stance, there is no one for Israel to work with. Jabra is more pragmatic when he speaks of the PLO -- and it's such a breath of fresh air! But both these guys were great -- loved so many things about this interview. Thanks so much for putting it together.

These two prove this truth: “As the preaching of the word had a great tendency to lead the people to do that which was just-yea, it had had more powerful effect upon the minds of the people than the sword, or anything else, which had happened unto them-therefore Alma thought it was expedient that they should try the virtue of the word of God” (Alma 31:5).

I loved this conversation. So much respect for these men. My great grandparents, Christian Emil Thomsen and Kristine Jensine Christensen Dyhr , were courageous leaders in the Danish Resistance Movement during World War II. Their entire family participated in the Resistance Movement. Their bravery and leadership are commemorated in the museum in Denmark. Christian was also the Branch President (I believe) of the church in that area at that time. Many members of the church in Silkeborg were part of the Resistance Movement. During a sacrament meeting, a German soldier, previously unknown to the congregation, arrived armed. Initially fearful of discovery, they were surprised when he expressed a desire to participate in the sacrament, revealing he had joined the church before the war. He was welcomed but asked to place his gun at the door. He did. Afterwards he went back to being a good German soldier and the rest went back to sabotaging the Germans. War is complex but the gospel is soooo simple. Love one another.

I wonder if Jabra could answer this- I heard another person saying that Hamas leaders aren’t even Palestinian, but that they are Iranian. And that’s why they don’t care about building up Palestine as its own state and why they’ve been using all the money, they are being given to just build a war machine against Israel, rather than building an economy. Like I heard that they were given money to make improvements to its water system, but instead of doing that, , they dug up the poor system they already had and used the money and metal to make missiles. Is it that true?

It is amazing to see the opinions of a Jewish Zionist and a diasporic Palestinian collaborate rather than clash. That is the power of the gospel. I couldn’t help but feel that this conversation needs to make its way across the Middle East.

So incredible! It takes humility for both to admit their own people's contributions to the situation. Loved all the head nodding when the other side was talking.
Kudos to Jabra! He has incredible wisdom. Love that guy.
So Jabra was baffled on how Hamas came to power. Greg was baffled at the campus demonstrations... Let me just suggest you study Saul Alinsky. His theory is that if you can find people that are dissatisfied, you can harness/hijack their energy and use it to propell yourself to power. Think of all the times the lamanites were "stirred up to anger". It is those who work in darkness - secret combinations - seeking to gain power and wealth by taking advantage of others misfortune. It is how Hitler came to power. It is behind all these radical movements we are seeing that are meant to create division.

I loved this interview. I roughly knew much of the history, but was enthralled by the guests’ retelling with clarity.
I would have liked a couple questions answered:
    1. Because it has drifted into a more religious struggle or at least a struggle with religious ideological overtones, what role does Islamic and Judaism religious teachings vis-a-vis revenge versus forgiveness play in the final outcome? It got me thinking about two great books Les Miserables (redemption through forgiveness) and The Count of Monte Cristo (redemption through revenge); coupled with the overarching two great commandments of Christianity, Love God and Love Neighbor. Or the saying: An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth just leaves the whole world blind and toothless. Clearly these two love each other… I could feel it, it was palpable. Which bears the follow-up question: how do these two peoples change their tit for tat, back and forth, rocket for rocket, prisoner for prisoner paradigm to sit across from one another in mutually respected dialogue?
    2. I would like to hear their perspective on the famous “Where are your Jews?” speech from the UN floor several years ago. It would appear from an outsider’s view like mine that ‘from the river to the sea’ is only possible as a Jewish state because they already show their willingness to integrate all ethnicities into society as doctors, lawyers, judges, people’s representatives, police officers, etc, etc.
I thought Jabra’s insights about October 8th were brilliant. Reminiscent of our failure to dissolve NATO after the Soviet block crumbled, which led us into the past and current Ukrainian debacles. Therefore question 3: now there is a ceasefire in place, could the Israelis re-establish talks with Saudi Arabia et. al and have a widespread consensus within the Abraham Accords?
    4. What is the actual real reason why Arab countries won’t take in Palestinian refugees? Does it remove their ‘queen’ from the chessboard? Is it their ‘A few good men: “you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall” mentality’, as in no one can handle the truth that Islamic Arabs need the Palestinians in Israel to have a reason to hate the Israelis?
    Wonderful episode! Thank you

I agree with Jason and Jabra, we just need peace. We need to look at each other as brothers and sisters. We just need the killing the stop. We should all have the LDS vision of Zion. Let us all be a "melting pot" of peoples, and kindreds and tongues. For we all are indeed brothers and sisters. Bless you all for sharing this with us.

Boy I sure wish this topic would get revisited. I often guess why it’s not being discussed in this channel as of late. A lot has happened in the last 5 months, and I can help but wonder how America is supposed to go forward, with its relationship with Israel. I’m also puzzled by the blind and overwhelming support that the political-right has of the IDF.

We would do well to start thinking of this land as a "multiple state solution". This is Christ's land, and all who flow into it after His appearance will accept it as such. Isaiah 2:3-4 says as much. We can talk about this land in that way, and I think this discussion begins to get us thinking that way, so thank you, Greg.

Olson isn't a Jewish last name. Did you say He was Jewish? Another thought is both Jews and Muslims are living in the law of Moses eye for an eye get revenge and so on. That was not mentioned in the equation. Although Iriahs are Christians the wars they have had over Protestants and Roman Catholics and revenge or standing up for God religion and anger and hur to get back at those who have killed their friends and family their religion have taken precedence over peace. When people believe they are doing God's will peace isn't considered. Period. If Jews believe they must have Gaza and W. bank and if Muslims believe they must have it and both will be blessed by god to do so is their thoughts... they even risked their kids as sacrifices to be heroes with god and country and religious rhetoric
