- I’ve been needing to get my catless Mazda Rx8 ready to pass emission for a while now, but I just haven’t been willing to fork out a small fortune for a catalytic converter.
I was recently pointed in the direction of a very affordable option and have heard good things about it.
In this multi-video mini-series, I will be preparing the Rx8 for the emissions test, starting off with the installation of the catalytic converter.

I was getting a power cut over 4k rpm occasionally, from a clogged cat. My vacuum pump was also making a similar noise when the cat issues started.
But, you can't expect a vacuum pump to pump into a clogged line, so...

Regarding the 4k rpm power drop, might this be your SSV? I was plagued a while back with a dirty SSV that stuck closed causing similar symptom. I believe over 4k rpms is when it opens/closes although I can't recall if it threw a code immediately or not. I reviewed your video for the autozone code reader results and didn't see it. Just a guess if you haven't experienced that fun yet. I apologize if you already documented such experience, my first time seeing your video. I just love watching other rx8 owner experiences.
