As I have ground-up restored American and Japanese vintage bikes, and built a few customs, too, I'll chime in. The Teutuls are super talented and skillful, no doubt. But it is electronics 101 to never wire a circuit *through* a light. That's something you'd do to get home if something shorted out or you fried your rectifier, or something like that. Great reporting as always, DR. 👍
I remember when Jay had them on his show and he mentioned this issue right on the air! He called them pieces of junk right to Paul's face. Then they are pieces of junk. Wiring up the electrical system like a string of Christmas lights is about as amateur as you can get.
Melon head should’ve shut his mouth and called senior directly. But in this day and age of social media, everybody has a platform to cry on. I’m sure senior would’ve took care of the problem if jawline would have called him directly.
He was just being honest, i stopped by my friends shop one day back on 2000's when the show was still on , he had 2 occ bikes he was rewiring. $120,000 worth of motorcyles , customer had taken them out 3 times and had broke down 3 times , honestly the wiring was horrendous looking , otherwise they were beautiful bikes .
Its also kinda fuckwd that someone gave you a gift like that, and you shit on it. There are plenty of positive things to say. No one ever gave me a bike, and I'd be forever grateful if someone did.
OCC was not into bike building, they were a family reality show. It was all about the drama between the father and son. Anyone in the bike building business said the same thing about OCC's bikes, they were all about being a decoration for some corporation's lobby, they were not to be ridden.
This situation is kinda misleading if you don’t know about the custom one off builds or their mass production models. They had a low tier end of choppers that were complete garbage. Unless you spent $75k+ on them you got a shit bike. Now their complete custom builds for companies or individual customers aren’t meant to be comfortable. They’re meant to look stylish. I’ve been inside a Ferrari and I wouldn’t drive it across the country let alone a city. Iron Horse Choppers are no different. They’re supposed to look cool but they’re certainly not a bagger. I get what Leno is saying, but I’ve never heard of a custom chopper build that’s comfortable enough to go cross country.
Referring to your Ferrari comment. When I was a car salesman in California, I sold a 2013 Mustang Shelby GT500 to a guy in Arizona. California has a stupid law, unless you pay cash, has to be delivered to the owners state. I paid someone to drive it to the border a few hundred miles. Everyone thought I was crazy. Nope, I want comfort. I made about $2K on the deal, I could afford $200 to not drive it. Besides sales is commission, no money in wasting a whole day driving.
When I hear choppers & cross country riding it reminds me of comments made by Fonda & Hopper about all the cross riding they did on those hard tails for Easy Rider. By the end of filming they almost dreaded getting on in the morning from the sound of it.
I remember this episode and Jay’s reaction when they did the reveal. He didnt look thrilled with it when they gave it to him. Never been a fan of OCC or the fanfair of their stuff. Creative for sure but those bikes are bar hoppers and show stuff. My last out of state run was 1400 miles round trip. Wouldn’t do that on a rigid or chop.
Jesse James, Indian Larry and a couple others rode from LA to Sturgis on hardtails in Motorcycle Mania 2. Modern bikers have largely become pansies, happy on their dime-a-dozen Street Glides.
I’m not talking about those guys I like choppers. But I like real choppers not the showpiece type stuff that OCC became famous for. Anybody who I know that bought an OCC chopper had usually nothing but problems with it. Big price tag with a stock 80 in.³ motor not all that impressive. I had an excess amount of free time I would do long road trips on a chopper, but definitely beats your body up a little little bit more on longer runs.
@@conservativerealist I know that but if someone gives you something, isn’t it kind of low to publicly put down the gift, as well the gifter which is inferred?
I watched an episode of orange county chopper and watched as one of the guys built a battery box. It turned out to small but instead of building another or altering the box to fit the battery correctly they just jammed the battery in the box. The was to me a red flag on how they built bikes. As far as choppers being" ride comfortable", for the most part they are not easy to ride. I believe they are built for aesthetics or just because it looks cool.
Jay Leno is well respected because he doesn't hold back. He openly speaks about all kinds of mechanical vehicles. The fact that you have something in Leno's collection means it holds value as collector piece. Leno's collection is the gold standard of what to own for gear heads.
Everyone should know that OCC bikes are built for show . I have seen many times on the SHOW where something did not fit right and out comes the hammer, not the right way to fix a alignment problem or any problem on a motorcycle for that matter . Jay was spot on in his comments .
OCC Bikes are for Biker Culture people. Jay Leno is NOT Biker Culture people. Why would anyone care if Leno, or anyone else who isn't inked, criticized tattoos? Leno is an expert in historical mass-produced motorized vehicles of all types. But he isn't an expert on art or custom builds. The other thing we don't know, and maybe Leno doesn't know, is how much have Leno's mechanics monkeyed with that bike over the last 20 years that he has owned it?
That wasn't payback at all. I saw that as Sr grasping at straws. Most entertainers in that business use a teleprompter these days and some even have a producer chirping in their ear. Very much a part of the business and always has been.
And.....If Jay was shown Dickheads response....I doubt he would comment. Leno has better things to do than get involved with some thin-skinned bitchs hurt feelings.
So I’ll say if they just happen to come on his show and asked about the bike, and he gave his honest opinion, it is what it is, and he has the right to do that! If he ran to the media to say something about it specifically, and that is just shit! I personally think anything that isn’t reliable 100% isn’t worth the money! Even if I was a millionaire, I still wouldn’t buy one of those things because I like for my shit to function properly with no issues.
IMO OCC builds for Celebrities that received PROMOTION were FREE to the Celebrities. Will Smith, Jay Leno etc... Jay had the bike on his show as well as Paul Jr and Sr on the show. Will Smith had the bike at the premier of his movie i -Robot .. As for companies they paid for the bikes which is a marketing write off proportionated to your tax bracket say 40%=Federal ,7%=State write off so 47 percent was written off as a marketing expense. Which since the bike was on TV Show ... Also Charity Auction the bike can be written off. IMO Your Ground Should Not Be to the Tail Light. Also The fact that electric systems have effected the bike yeah problem. We don't know if Jay contacted Paul Sr. SR is a bit arrogant. So who knows... If the bike was a gift than Jay would have to declare the VALUE OF THE BIKE AS SICH & Be Taxed Portion to it so he would have paid or the TV SHOW PAID TAXES 50 percentage of Value... Now I assume that the bike was a bonus to Jay from the show & he may have paid say $1 ... That's THE Tonight Show ..
The interview guy worked for WWE and he still sounds like it. He can't talk in a normal tone. He sounds like the DJ at a Strip Club. He's just trying to start some controversy to get views and it's working.
I have built Custom Tractor Truck Units and Specialized Heavy Equipment. No bikes. Custom Car Audio and Mobile Electronic Systems. With Custom work some things get lost in translation very easily. Sometimes you get the look, but it is fragile and expensive to fix. Some clients understand that. Some do not. They get an expectation because of what they paid. Not realizing that what they asked for was either impractical, illogical, or defied certain laws of Physical Science altogether and looked great but was not functional. With custom work. It is no different thean building a race engine. If you buy a bolt on kit, you get bolt on results. If you build from raw design, there is trial and error. I have built Custom Semis that the factory took 6 weeks with an engineer, in about 12 days that passed the DOT first shot, with like 4-5 other guys. Experience is important. No matter what, custom is custom. Usually one of a kind. That's is sometimes all you get. Just being honest. We were something back in the day. Good times.

Totally agree with Jay. I live one county over from OCC. everyone knows these bikes are more for display than ridden. But with Jays knowledge and experience. Why did he take it. Or bother keeping. Jay has far better, legendary and rideable bikes. LoL
BX bro, first off as an OG, I ride a 98 Evo springer that I bought 10 years ago. It had 2900 miles on it. Now it has 60,000 miles on it. And I’ve never broke down with it. So I call bullshit on Harley’s breaking down, even the new ones. Look bro, Jay Leno knows more about old cars and bikes than Paul sr can imagine. He knows how to fix them, plus he has a crew of dudes that know how to. He’s got a garage full of antique, custom, and one off shit. You don’t have all that without knowing something. The OCC shit was just a fad. I’m sure Jay went through that bike and realized it wasn’t all that. I think the real problem is that the cycle drag guy got an invite to check out Jays stuff. Jay told the guy what he thought, then that dude turned into a punk for views. I think it was a bitch move on his part, he’s probably praying for TMZ to come calling for an interview. The OCC bike Jay got, in my opinion is really fucking stupid looking. A fucking waste of a $25,000 knuckle motor. When Paul sr says choppers have problems. I got a 1948 flathead chopper that I built 23 years ago. Never left me on the side of the road. But ya your right. Chopper solo seats hurt your ass.

Exactly what I was thinking. You can put great parts on a bike or car but it doesn’t mean the end result is great. You still have to install them correctly and tune/adjust it.
If your bike stops running cuz of the brake lite that's all wrong and Jay ain't the only one who has said that Pauls bike ain't worth the money
I would TRUST Jay Leno before I would TRUST OCC!!! Leno isn't the only One who has COMPLAINED ABOUT OCC!!
The bikes for the TV show were "For Display Purposes Only" not bikes you ride.
@@michaelconran5252 So you mean like putting Perfume on a pig!!?? That's funny as they would always take it for a ride when they finished it!!!
@@edblasingame8139 a test ride, that is it. There is a little bit of sarcasm in my statement, sorry it went over your head. The bikes are show pieces, nothing more. Most of their builds were for corporations, not riders.
@@michaelconran5252 Didn't go over my Head!! JUNK IS JUNK!! So you mean that they rode in a straight line and didn't use the brakes??!! So you mean that there for Illustration purposes only??
@@edblasingame8139 they are not a rider's kind of bike. If it is the kind of bike you would like to ride, go for it. They look cool, that is it. You can argue all you want, they are display pieces.
Truthfully you should always let people know about bad products! Bluecolar people buy these bikes too! We want to know if they are crap!
Everyone thought OCC bikes were goofy. Built for novelty. Different strokes for different folks but, I stand with, Jay.
He didn't give him shit... The channel production company gave it to him....
I remember when Jay had them on his show and he mentioned this issue right on the air! He called them pieces of junk right to Paul's face. Then they are pieces of junk. Wiring up the electrical system like a string of Christmas lights is about as amateur as you can get.
Some of those bikes looked like they were built from a JC Whitney chopper starter kit.
Lol
Melon head should’ve shut his mouth and called senior directly. But in this day and age of social media, everybody has a platform to cry on. I’m sure senior would’ve took care of the problem if jawline would have called him directly.
I agree pick up the phone
And what would that have done? Paul never would have fixed anything.
That may have happened. I don't see Sr. fixing it anyway.
lol alot of people call their bikes crap.
Yea i would too your right
Wasn't a gift.
The bike may have been a gift, but you don't think Orange county choppers benefit from that gift Jay Leno come on now let me know what they was doing
@@derekbraggs5607 im sure an ad spot during the leno show is at least 5 figures
Jay aint the only one that has said that about the bikes
The Teutels are clowns that built clown bikes. Jay is the real biker.
He got asked a question and he answered it.
Jay is 100% spot on! OCC bikes were junk.
Screw Leno and Sr
OCC was not into bike building, they were a family reality show. It was all about the drama between the father and son. Anyone in the bike building business said the same thing about OCC's bikes, they were all about being a decoration for some corporation's lobby, they were not to be ridden.
its easy to say it but to build a better bike not so easy
Yes i agree
Some of the bikes were a million and a half and the other ones in the back ground were a hundred and Fifty k.Matt Hotches mother told me that
Referring to your Ferrari comment.
@@chrissmith7669 fuck a hardtail, was a Marine infantryman for 20 years. Not going to ride a hardtail more than 20 feet
I believe Jay. He knows bikes. OCC built theme bikes. Not meant to ride anyway.
I'm with Jay on this one. Many others have complained about there bikes
All TV built bikes were 150k builds. If Jay didn't buy it the discovery paid for it. That was not a free bike
But Hard core chopper guy's do.
Paul's counter argument: 'all the stuff I didn't fabricate was high quality'
If Jay hates the chopper so bad, give it back to Orange County Choppers, or auction it off for Charity.
Very true
Jay actually does give alot to different charities
@@conservativerealist I know that but if someone gives you something, isn’t it kind of low to publicly put down the gift, as well the gifter which is inferred?
Let’s be real here… OCC lost nothing on this, chances are the network covered the cost and labor for the bike…lmao
@@beardedwonder8333 Jay got the bike for free
Jay has "screw you go away" money and OCC went bankrupt 🤣
Jay def got fu money
Jay is a macanical purest, he fixes and operates everything he owns. Jay Leno has always been Real!!
He owns a few occ bikes
Everyone should know that OCC bikes are built for show . I have seen many times on the SHOW where something did not fit right and out comes the hammer, not the right way to fix a alignment problem or any problem on a motorcycle for that matter . Jay was spot on in his comments .
I remember watching those early shows and thinking to myself these guys are cavemen
Grown men acting like kids...
Very true
The way Senior turned around and suddenly trashed Jay Leno's craft with the q card's comments was perfect. Pay back are a b...
yes lol
That wasn't payback at all. I saw that as Sr grasping at straws. Most entertainers in that business use a teleprompter these days and some even have a producer chirping in their ear. Very much a part of the business and always has been.
All those teleprompters must be broke, all they seem to say is "Trump Trump Trump..." lol
And.....If Jay was shown Dickheads response....I doubt he would comment. Leno has better things to do than get involved with some thin-skinned bitchs hurt feelings.
Leno beat Lettermen for years and all late night host use q cards and lettermen did also.
No one is going to win a fight with Leno he’s just to loved. He has way to much integrity
He definitely should have kept it private between the two of them I’m sure they would have worked out a solution
Hes complaining 21yrs later because he was asked directly, he wasn't just randomly throwing shade
Respect to Paul Sr.
Jay was telling the bike what it was. He told the truth.
Welcome to Owning a chopper sometimes you get where you are going and other times you don't it all about the looks and not the ride
Style over substance. Cyberpunk. Best comment.
And 100%. “Nah he meant that”. That other dude that buys every bike he comes across also said the same shit.
Yeah I think that was very unprofessional of Jay to publicly say that, unless OCC had screwed him over in some way. 🤨
Yeah, a "Gift?" So, Jay is bitching about something he got for free... To me, that's showing a lack of Class... :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
OCC’s are display bikes for RUBS.
thank god we have a white guy pretending to be black explaining motorcycles. totally gonna make a podcast bc apparently everyone can make one.
im puerto rican lol
THAT IS NO LEGEND, it's just an angry old man. aka, Paul sir…
Look at the average resale value of OCC bikes. ‘Nuff said.
Jay Leno knows quality. OCC was not quality. I know similar stories from OCC owners.
Jessie James said it best OC bikes were cookie cutter bike . Not made to be ridden but to be a trophy in the corner
The interview guy worked for WWE and he still sounds like it. He can't talk in a normal tone. He sounds like the DJ at a Strip Club. He's just trying to start some controversy to get views and it's working.
Iv actually rode an OCC chopper. That’s why I have an Indian Larry bike. I’m not joking ya
I had a Harley Davidson that was brand new and it was constantly in the shop. It was junk. Like Paul said it was free!
I respect jays opinion all day long over OCC. MY 2008 Goldwing with 100k miles could do laps around OCC junk

I have no dog in the hunt but EVERY Harley owner I've knows talks about their breakdowns in the middle of nowhere not how awesome the trip was!
Good times.
Ever since Leno made fun of Kerrie Strug for breaking her ankle and fighting through it to complete her final vault to win team USA a gold medal at the Olympics, he can go f himself
Jesse James said it best🎉
If the bike was gifted to him, that was shifty of Leno. Pretty ungrateful...
yea i agree
My opinion on Jay Leno's comments is it's his opinion everybody's entitled to an opinion and to be honest Jay Leno's freedom of speech doesn't end where Paul seniors feelings begin
Sound like Paul's getting some Alzheimer's
What a rat move by the interviewer, runs straight to Paul sr like a middle school girl ready to spread drama.
They have no resale value
This is why Jesse James has always been the goat.
I'm probably not the best person for this because I've always thought Jay Leno was complete ass along with his show. But how are you going to complain about a free $100,000 bike somebody gave you. And second he got the bike 20 years ago so how long did it sit around before he actually went out and rode it and had the issue? Plus it's an art piece, I don't complain that my Victory Vegas won't pull a trailer like my Dodge Cummins will
Totally agree with Jay.
Chopper solo seats hurt your ass.
harleys do break down. mine wont even start in the cold most the time
1st also funny I heard alot of people say orange county choppers Were all hype.
JAY is 100% real...he knows his shit. My advice to Teutul is to accept constructive criticism
Paul missed the part that Jay said the electric system passed through the brake light not that the breaks were bad.
OCC was the number one show for years and yet people just want to hate on them for some reason... that show changed the chopper industry and created a lot of jobs during that time so how can you hate on that...
Followers bro one bad comment the robots spit it back out
OMG I thought this channel was a spoof, and then realized it was real. 😂😂😂 so much badassery and toughguyness. And the ridiculous accent? Over the top.
That little guy is an instigator .doing that just to be on the spot.
I like how most are overlooking the fact that this dude set Leno up. But no matter, Leno is calling it like it is. OCC is not some big leader in the motorcycle industry. TV is all that made them a household name. That's it.
he set hime up?
@@DemonsRow I think he means by giving him a bike.
@DemonsRow I mean the guy interviewed Leno, and Leno being a very smart automotive and motorcycle collector the doesn't just collect, he drives, rides and works on everything he has was asked a question gave an answer and the dude ran back to Paul senior at said look at this. Typical You Tube BS. Leno calls it like he sees it.
It is what it is , facts don’t care about feelings. Now with that being said the bike is obviously more of a show price than a rider.
low brow to beef on youtube... I am surprised at Jack(cycle drag) for running with this back-and-forth beef. should be as you mentioned, a phone call between MEN.
Choppers were the deal especially in the 70s, 80s. Back then if you were riding a bagger you were laughed at. We called them garbage trucks. Of course I rode a 57 straight leg with a shovel head motor bates seat and apes. Of course I was 21 and invincible. I rode that hard tail 12 years and loved it. Today I am 67 and I ride a 2022 FXLRST. Times change, technology changes and our desire for function over fashion changes.
OCC were a bunch of clowns once the show took off. All form, no function. Then they cranked out subpar bikes for the masses to cash in.

@@DemonsRowyea in his own mind !

I've heard too that those bike were jus for display only. I met a guy who bought one off some guy. He said the same thing about the wiring and I ask so how did you fix it. Fuse box and whatever else he had to add to prevent an electrical fire
Free speech......God bless this country
He’s just saying their not made to ride their made to look at like a revell model
Jay Leno also commissioned OCC to build him a bike, separate from the one that he was talking about and voicing his opinion on the quality and workmanship of the product that he received.
