The Kia Forte is even uglier and has a twist beam rear suspension. I rode as a passenger in a Corolla Hybrid and the engine sounded fine to me, and the car was built like a bank vault. This 2021 Corolla has the same CVT found in the latest Lexus UX 200 luxury SUV. It has a physical first gear which makes it in some ways, even better than the gear hunting problematic 8 speed automatic you find in the Camry. I love this Lexus luxury CVT in the Corolla!
Inflation plus the Corolla has gone upmarket. Corolla is no longer a basic econobox anymore. From the way it looks to the way it handles to the interior materials, it's very similar to an entry level German luxury car of 10-15 years ago (at least for the top Corolla trims).
That's not what you'd pay. This $30K corolla is completely loaded with several unnecessary add ons. You can usually pay about 20% off msrp with dealer discounts/rebates. You can get a base version for $18K and a top trims for $20-$22K.
@@igotanimac1 You can get a good discount but your numbers seem low to me and definitely don't include sales tax and fees. Top trim Corolla would be about 25K when you include taxes and fees. Base Corolla would be about 20K when you include taxes and fees.
@@braetonwilson4296 You can get 15-30% off msrp, with Toyota and Honda it's more in the 15-20% range and with Nissan it's more in the 20-25% range. So I just did the basic math. Base Corolla L Trim is $20,025 + $995 destination = $21,020 minus 15% dealer discount and rebates/incentives ($3,153) = $17,861, so as I said $18K + 0-10% sales tax. Whew! $30k for a Corolla. Yes, that may be what's on the Monroney (MSRP) sticker, but it hard to imagine that anyone actually pays that for a Corolla, even an XSE, if for no other reason than the competition is less, often much less. And then there's the fact that the SE version -- which is essentially the same car without a navigation package -- has an MSRP of $24k, and it's typically discounted $2k just for walking in the showroom. At that price it's an excellent buy for a car with a sterling reputation. No, the owner won't be be bringing home any autocross trophies, but there's enormous satisfaction to be had in knowing your first car -- or even your tenth -- is "dog loyal" and won't ever leave you stranded. Why dump on this guy's review? Maybe the new Corolla is dependable etc. It is this guy's opinion the engine lacks compared to the rest of the car. And $30k for a Corolla? My brother just bought a fully loaded CRV for that amount. I am looking at a rental car this week for a trip and was considering the Corolla...but for a long trip I think I will go a step up for size.
Civic has alot of consumer complaints
Well, I think nobody liked this review, everybody prefers a reliable car as Corollas “0 problems” than fancy petitions from reviews that sometimes aren’t with common sense. I prefer a reliable car than super sporty car, I’m not Vin Diesel.
Most engines get significantly louder when you rev them up. If you think this thing makes noise when you slam the gas pedal you should have driven my '74 Camaro; but, then again, you wouldn't know about old school cars.
Trying to decide between this or a CHR 🤨
Take this
Take the Honda if you want style, better speed, Technology
@@The.Austin1 He said between a Corolla or a CHR not a Honda sorry buddy
I personally really like both but you can get a few more features in the Corolla that you can’t with the CHRIf it was my money I would probably go with the Corolla

this guys hair is outstanding
The Kia Forte is even uglier and has a twist beam rear suspension. I rode as a passenger in a Corolla Hybrid and the engine sounded fine to me, and the car was built like a bank vault. I never felt such a rigidly built frame in my life. I much prefer the Corolla to the Subaru Impreza, which feels like it is made of tin foil and plastic. The Civic is probably way better than both, but I never get to ride in one because almost everyone has SUVs these days.
Just rode in a new Civic, Very loud in the back, loud in the front, cvt made in Mexico, engine from US, assembled in Canada, uhm...no thanks, rather get a #J vin from Japan, in the Corolla for quiet, comfortable and long lasting ride. Forte made in Mexico too.
The CVT kills everything. They need to change it to an 8 speed
Almost 30k for a Corolla is ridiculous
And $21,600 + 0-10% sales tax for top 1.8L engine XLE trim, and about $22,900 + 0-10% sales tax for top 2.0L engine XSE trim.
@@igotanimac1 I sell Toyotas and you can't get 30 percent off, that's false. Maximum in my dealership is 15% off, no more than that. Also you forgot to include destination for XLE and XSE. You also forgot dealership fees, doc fees, registration, title etc. Sales tax alone can be $2000.
When will you review 2021 GMC Yukon ???
I’m waiting
If you put 16 inch rims on, the Corolla will pull harder due to shedding 10lbs per wheel
I just hope Toyota figures out seat comfort someday.
My uncle's Corolla Sun 2017 has amazing seats, what made you say that?
@@dkDeMKN If you're extremely overweight, then yeah I guess the seats wouldn't be that comfortable.
No hybrid models available at your location?! Better performance and better fuel economy
With the Corolla hybrid LE with only 21 miles, yes 21 miles; on the dash what does it mean when it says accelerator and brake pedal pressed at the same time. And it shows that orange like upside down bowling pin icon with a pedal next to it. This is our first hybrid and they didnt drive it around with us. We've only had it since last Friday.
I am the only person who finds this guy annoying? This dude needs consider that he is in a commuter car not one of the higher end Toyota’s. This is proof that some of these car reviews don’t always know what they are talking about. Just an observation. I don’t really care about this guys opinion at the end of the day If you like a car then go for it. But you can never go wrong with a Toyota.
What about the Chevy Cruze?

LE for avoiding leather. Every car maker is hard on vegetarians.
No need to worry. Toyota uses Softex, which is a fake synthetic leather not made from animal skin. You can buy the XLE or XSE or SE, no problem.
@@braetonwilson4296 I wish my LE Hybrid came with that vegan-friendly option you mention. Cloth seats are ok, but definitely harder to keep clean long term 🧼
That 1.8 L is the reason I buy Corollas. You sound like a music critic for hip-hop reviewing Mozart. But thanks, now I know i will buy the model L.
if you like the basic wheels that is. I call the LE the lame edition for a reason
The 12th Gen in my opinion is not better than the 11th which I have. The new Corolla has less room in the back than the 11th gen and it shorter in length
That is the one advantage of 11th gen over 12th gen. Otherwise, 12th gen Corolla is a much better car and much more fun to drive. 12th gen Corolla is a baby Lexus. Your car is great too.
Great Video!!! I just copped my one and uploaded it on my YT Channel
bro switched from a lambo to a toyota
a most beautiful looking corolla yet especially the hatch!
I have the LE of the 2020. Much better than the previous gen. I wouldent say it looks average, very stylish and aggressive for a commuter car. Its a Toyota atleast itll last you long time
It's strange that US doesn't get the 2.0 hybrid with 180hp/132kw. I love the hybrid engine especially when put into sport mode, it really flies! Also EU version gets (some are optional) rear vents, rear doors materials below window are soft as well, 3D-instrument cluster option, HUD display, Blind spot monitoring, matrix-Bi-LED type lights, pano roof for estate version, wireless charging etc.. Strangely too the US has much better multimedia software in use. We finally got the Carplay/AA option in 2020, but no remote start etc.
Wth..The engine is the best part of the Corolla.
Looks great but it sounds like a Nutribullet.
But they will last unlike Kia and a Sentra really that’s a crap wagon no matter what

I've owned this car for about a week now and not even 4 days into me owning it the car actually started falling apart literally. Hubcaps were the 1st to go bye bye
I don't understand why Toyota doesn't put a better engine in this car.
They need to throw a turbo up in the bitch. To compete with the Civic.
@@HOTPLATEGAMING Compete with the Civic in what way? The oil dilution category? Or the most unreliable category? A lot of sensible people avoid the Civic because of it's direct injected turbo engine. Corolla's 2 liter engine gives a 0-60 time of 7.5-8 seconds, which is plenty fast.
@@HOTPLATEGAMING Turbo = long-term headaches and unreliability 🤷🏻♂️

Clifford, I couldn’t agree with you more on this one. After being a wallflower for decades the Corolla finally gets a little style, only to be held back by a so-so power train. Loyal Toyota owner here ( I own a 2014 Scion TC ) so I can attest to their reliability. This model has been around since the 60’s in some form or another. It’s time for Toyota to show it some love. You’re review was awesome Cliff🏎
Scotty is pleased with your comment.
Maybe the USA can build reliable and affordable cars someday. Kids do you know what hydrogen is? 🤔
FCEV’s and hydrogen ICE vehicles will NEVER be a thing... Hydrogen ICE is just a straight up bad idea, snd FCEV’s are glorified and over complicated BEV’s. FCEV’s are insanely in-efficient, has an non existent infrastructure for filling up, making liquid hydrogen is worse for the environment than producing petrol and diesel, they have more moving parts than a BEV that can and will fail and they’re hilariously expensive.
No one should have their hopes up for FCEV’s and hydrogen ICE, it won’t happen. GM ditched it 20 years ago for a reason, and the Toyota Mirai is an outright failure even tho Toyota refuses to admit it.
@@TheGamingNorwegian hydrogen is produced by electrolysis of water... They will find the way to make it work. In the future you will fuel the cars with water and water will come out in the exhaust.
When a company brags about adding Android Auto on a 2021 model, you know what to expect. Toyota does the least amount of innovation/updating as there sales figures will allow them. This way they can always excuse there uncompetitive products as being more reliable than the competition. Toyota buyers don't shop for a new car, they just go to a Toyota dealership and gets whats new. The lack of shopping means they don't know about what is being offered by the competitors. I wanted to buy a Corolla, but the Apex is worse than the standard Corolla in every way. The manual helps a lot but I can't turn a blind eye to a $26k Honda Civic SI with LSD and some go. $30k for that huge shiny black plastic bezel of the Rolla interior just doesn't cut it. I also hurt myself like three times trying to get out of the seat on those sharp, intrusive dash corners. Warning to those that have limbs
Oh shut up, Susan

Besides a terrible engine, it sure seems expensive. The Sentra (with similar power and even better looks) looks like a bargain in comparison.
yah, buying a sentra will save you money for a new transmission for... that sentra
@@HaiLe-wy7dd Damn Hai Le that’s cold, but accurate. Sad because the new Sentra finally gets some much needed style 🏎

The powertrain in this seems really... 1995
1995? Corolla shown in the video has a 2 liter high compression dual injected engine. Yes both port and direct injection. That kind of tech wasn't even available in 1995. Just to put it into perspective, this 2021 Corolla has the same amount of horsepower as a 2010 Camry LE despite the fact that the Corolla weighs several hundreds pounds less than that 2010 Camry.
Plus this Corolla has a unique Lexus CVT with a physical first gear. This is a revolutionary automotive technology that causes the car to launch like a rocket from a stop and have great fuel economy. Not bad, eh?
@@braetonwilson4296 You are absolutely right, my snark was set to 11 when I made that comment... it is just so noisy and underpowered given how refined Toyota can make things on the higher end (like the currency Camry) - rather than a truly innovative powertrain in an otherwise excellent car. I'm going to ignore your "launch like a _rocket_" comment... I would never use "rocket", "cvt" and "corolla" in the same sentence :)
@@rkalla doesn’t seem like you understand “reliability”. It’s a reason not much has changed the last decade with the engines in the hybrids........
That's why Toyota has sold millions upon millions of them.
I love it
Goddamnit.... I just found out they're made in MISSISSIPPI!!!!!! I'm sure reliability and craftsmanship dropped just right there.
