I feel like people greatly underestimate blizzard. If I had to guess, they decided they would make legacy servers a long time ago, maybe around ICC or Cata. I think they knew the direction that WoW was going and that over time they increase QoL changes and cater to casuals (Not to say mythic raiding is easy) to a breaking point (Legion) where there would be a big enough outcry for the old school WoW. I genuinely think this was part of their plan all along; there is no way they didn't see this coming.

Blizzard running out of ideas. Oh wait, Diablo: Immortal.

No one forced Blizzard to anything.
They've been wrestling with the idea of classic servers for years long before the Nostralirus drama.
Hesitant to even research the idea as splitting your community can be dangerous for a game's health.
    Look at Everquest.
However through observations and monitoring of the fan-base, which the petition did bring up a little more to light.
Was simply the market for classic being clear.
Blizzard then decided this year to make the announcement before having any actual date to ease the wanting fan-base.
Before gathering their actual team for the development.
I really wish people would stop calling it a forced action, when in truth it was a matter of business opportunity

Only bad thing about classic is that it completely shuts down your social life if you ever decide to take it seriously like hardcore raiding or ranking to 14. But if you just login to play one battleground or one dungeon sure it would be fun.
It is a fun game with repercussions.

I'm not sure why they claim to be in "Developement" stage for Classic Wow. That tells me it's not going to be vanilla. They have to have a backup of the last version of World of Warcraft before they released Burning Crusade. Why can't they just implement that data on new servers?

WoW Classic just need to surpass 1.4m players to be called a success (according to Blizzard warriors who defend BFA with teeth and nails).

This doesn't explain neither the why nor the if of why blizz might feel "forced" to make classic wow. Now I don't know much about business so I may well be wrong in my assumption but here's my reasoning: At first I thought it was just a good business opportunity. With what I assumed was a gradually dwindling playerbase on the one hand and a considerable amount of players on classic servers. That would make sense. 250 000 autographs for a petition is enormous, and 800 000 thousand unique accounts is too. But when you dig a little deeper and see that of those 800 000 accounts only 150 000 are active, and you take into account all of this was free. The numbers quickly dwindle to the point where I can't help but wonder (again, with my poor sense of business and a number of assumptions) if this really is just good business? Or if there is some other motive. After all, if it really still is just good business, then those reasons would also have held up in previous years where they were decidedly against the idea.

You think you do, but you don't

They should just reintroduce raid progression, pre-honor system, attune, element resistance into the game.

IEF4 it won’t happen because casuals will whine and start a shitstorm on the forums

These server will die 3 month after their release.
Edit: If you are not okay, just wait and we will see. I don't answer to flame and insult.

Their subscribtion number largely dropped. They had to go back to their roots.

Subs dropped due to an outside event? I don't think so. I think they are just trying to bring back very old players in addition to the large amount of people that still play.

Meritorious judging by the lates subs number released i wont say there are so many players left

I know it's probably an impossible wish, but I want a hybrid version of vanilla. Most of it would be identical to the original vanilla and the core design philosophies would be there, but the class balance would be heavily tweaked and SOME quality of life improvements would be made. But they will probably give us close to an exact replica. When people inevitably complain about some of the roughest parts of vanilla (which is not necessarily EVERY inconvenient thing, I LOVE some of the old inconvenience) people will say "I told you so! Vanilla sucked and you're just nostalgic!"

    • @DaWoWzer

Vanilla doesn't work if class balance is implemented, a lot of people don't really seem to get that, bosses just flat out wouldn't work. I think the bigger reason it's more important to have an 100% authentic vanilla experience would also be to preserve that part of gaming his, vanilla WoW as it was, revolutionized gaming as we know it. it would be like saying "yeah pac-man is pretty cool, but I think it would be better with XYZ" well no duh but that wouldn't be the same game now would it?

    • @Dylan_Thomas1
      @Dylan_Thomas1 6 лет назад

I see your point, but it's not a total translation because WoW is a lot more complex than pacman so tweaks to balance is such a small percentage change. And I'm sure there are ways to tweak the balance without breaking bosses. Also certain quality of life improvements.
Part of the reason I know this is an impossible wish is that I know I'm in a sort of in between zone that will never be fulfilled. Yes there are many who want true vanilla mostly for the access to that exact historical experience, but does this goal strictly outweigh the goal of a mostly vanilla experience but with certain tweaks that create something even more special? Maybe for you but not for me. And that's fine.
It's just wistfulness on my part. I love that Blizzard is making a vanilla server whatever they do. I just wish there was a way to experience what would be IMO a perfect game for me. I wish the game went in an actually satisfying direction with its expansions and kept the best design philosophies (imo) from vanilla while improving in a completely different way. I love a certain element of roughness in wow so actually emergent things can happen but instead they doubled down over the years on the theme park feel (it was already theme parkey, they just streamlined it too much and made the game way too easy, not just convenient).

+Joseph This is needlessly harsh. Probably because this is the internet so you feel no social consequences. In real life if you probably dont act like this. You are even getting a pristine vanilla server, so what if other people enjoy something a little different.
It wasnt little changes that fucked over wow it was bad changes.
Why can't you put up with other people feeling differently than you? Im unphased by the fact that you have a wildly different opinion about this. Its not an insensible one. I wont see your reply.

people fought for years for vanilla...not some watered down crybaby version of it....folks like you come along with idiotic suggestions and ruin things for the rest of us because for whatever reason blizzard listens to idiocy.

    • @vividly94
      @vividly94 6 лет назад +2

No, it was little changes such as 'class balancing' when the whole idea of vanilla was the fact that no one was equal. Fuck off with that stupid ass philosophy. Its literally the same bullshit that turned the game into what it is now.
The amount of basic and in-depth shit that Blizzard took out compared from retail until now is ridiculous... and while most of the time I was speculating, literally playing on a private server right now forces it down your throat on how much different the game is. I got to level 30 longer than it took me to literally make 1 1/2 110's. To get to 110 took me as much time to get me to level 20.
Class balancing would absolutely break the game because theres more to 'class balancing' than just retweaking spells. It literally means reworking armor, boss mechanics, and weapons. Blizzard even said in a Q and A that it'd practically be impossible to follow their balance direction that they have in retail into vanilla. Then again, someone having an 'opinion' can also be labeled as an ignorant one, because I know you have no idea what you're talking about in the first place. Literally sit and play vanilla on a private server, raid a couple raids, then come back and look at your stupid ass comment and i guarantee you you'd pull that mentality directly out of the shitter.
Imagine if Blizzard balanced retail like they did for vanilla. Oh wait, if they did that, then people wouldn't be asking for vanilla. Literal contradicting logic.
Plus, your opinion isn't relevant if what you're asking is already in retail. We're talking about vanilla, not Legion. Its called back tracking, not redoing the same bullshit.
