Most Australians know sufficient first aid to deal with snakes, spiders and marine life. Like most animals, they are only dangerous if provoked or feel threatened. Thus the relaxed attitude towards these dangerous animals. Another great video Jaby and love that you have Aussie Demitra with you to watch this video.
No they really don't. A lot of us do but a majority if the people here live in the main cities and statistically will never visit anywhere more rural than small country towns that are tourist spots and are safe some won't even go as far as camping.
The peeing on a jellyfish bite thing is before FRIENDS. I heard of it when I was in elementary school in '89.
Yeah I wonder how that show even got that information because it's completely inaccurate.
@@Timmycoo Well the thing is that it's not completely inaccurate. For many species pouring water and rubbing the affected area will help, and that does technically work with pee. Although seawater works just as well (possibly better) and is probably just as accessible.

I was nine, screamed and ran in my dad thought it was fake. After smacking with a shoe they suffocated in the jar for a couple weeks. Mom took a pencil and unroll its legs and it measured 4 1/2 inches leg to leg.
This was before the movie arachnophobia had come out so the exterminator was extremely scared to go onto the house lol.
Adder is an old term of snake.
I read in a book that said the words was actually nadder and in sentences it’s would be mentioned as, “A nadder” and that could be misheard as “An adder” and it then became popular as an Adder. 😜
I grew up in Australia and I remember we built a treehouse - my sisters and I wanted to sleep in there so we got our things and were ready. My dad brings a torch and says "you guys sure?" and shines the light at the wall of the treehouse and there's probably a 15 inch legspan Huntsman spider just chilling on the wall in there. We said nope and went back in the house lol. Surprised he didn't talk about blue tongue lizards. And yeah redbacks are basically Aus's version of Black Widows, would rank them D tier forsure. Where I lived (we had the bush literally less than a KM from our house) we couldn't leave our shoes outside because scorpions would like to hide in them to escape the elements.
The amonia in urine is why you are supposed to piss on the jellyfish stings. The Amonia helps counteract the poison and the stinging barbs fall out with this.
Vinegar is a LOT better than urine, but then again who has vinegar at the beach???

Kind of a strange species to survive the way they do. I always wondered how. Similar to Pandas. Also the fires recently devastated the Koala habitat and it was truly saddening.

Here's something interesting, in the Kurrama language of Australia, "karla" had the original meaning of both "fire" and "tree". And in the Yorta language, "bitja" also had the original meaning of both "fire" and "tree". There's also "yuku-" in the Gugu Yau language which joins to another word with the meaning of "fire" or "tree". Lol so yes our trees are on fire a lot.

The sun is actually even worse in NZ. Not as hot as Oz but more UV gets through.
The jumping jacks can get up to 2 - 2.5 cms, and many also have a sting in the tail. Many people get an adverse reaction, and if you get bitten again (even years later) your reaction will be worse.
Australia is closer to the equator so its gonna be hotter. Any country on or near the equator is gonna be hotter in general
UV levels in New Zealand are even worse, despite being no way near as hot.

"I haven't been stung by a jelly fish"; " I've never seen a snake...." Because she"s not an outdoor type girl! She is paler than the host. Also, anti venom is a newer technology that wasn't used in Australia until 1930. I, too, have been to the hospital, in the US, with something that might have killed me 100 years ago.

peeing on stings is a very old idea. Pee has ammonia which helps if a bee, wasp or jelly fish stings you. So if you don't have ammonia with you pee works.
Ahh no!! Ammonia has the opposite effect with jellyfish actually. Ammonia can cause more venom to be released!! Vinegar is the only “home remedy” that stops the unfired nematocytes firing.
@@Dr_KAP I'm talking in general. Ammonia helps for many stings like from bees, mosquitos etc
