      First, the arena does not open until 2 hours before game time. Second, parking within 6 blocks was all pre-sold out. The light-rail trans were packed and it was 104 degrees. And another major sport event was happening simultaneously in downtown Phoenix. People packed the place to see Caitlan. Many (like me) did not previously know that Phoenix even has a WNBA team.

She represents the heart of what Americans ARE! I guess what Lina doesn't understand is that basketball is about entertainment, not just having "good" players who've played forever. CC is entertaining, the rest of them don't do much that's entertaining. That's why the stadium doesn't sellout without a superstar like CC. Just saying!!!

    That argument of “where were these fans before” is getting tiresome. Did golf media do this when Tiger brought eyes? Tennis media when Serena and her sister did? What about NBA fans when Magic, Bird and Jordan did?
    Just lean into the fact that fans are coming. No matter how great you think the older players were or are they don’t capture the widespread audience that’s a WNBA issue. Could be because of marketing, play style or any number of things. The NBA changes rules all the time to make the product more appealing to fans the WNBA constantly says we’re good as we are.

      @@AbzScotland -- As has been noted, time and again, a great many of these women aren't exactly likable. I'll put A'ja Wilson at the top of that list. You can't tell me she isn't a talented player. I think Taurasi has come around a bit, so she's more likable. I'm not a giant Taurasi fan, but you can't tell me she isn't a talented player. You want to argue with Geno Auriemma about either of those two points? I'm not a fan of Auriemma, either, and can't stand the way he diminishes Caitlin Clark in the media. That said, he's only the greatest NCAA women's basketball coach of all time. And it isn't even close -- with all due respect to Pat Summitt.
      Sometimes, being a mature adult entails giving devils their due.
      Again... I'm not a fan of CC because she's nice. I have no idea if she's nice. I know she's media savvy, for sure. I'm a CC fan because she's a great frickin' player. Nice has nothing to do with it. I don't care if she's nice.

    • @AbzScotland
      @AbzScotland 6 дней назад

      @@DeniseK-Creative You might want to re-read my initial short comment? The opening sentence of your reply supports my point. You may be misunderstanding my point. Likeable does not mean "nice". The fact that CC22 is likeable is an objective fact as CC22 is more than just a fan favourite. Whether CC22 is "nice" is a subjective opinion that, by its very nature, I would argue cannot predict success in life. Auriemma is hardly going to say that CC22 is a superstar because CC22 has the X factor. He is staying in his lane. Put another way, a far greater number of people consider CC22 likeable compared to the other "talent" in the W irrespective the different opinions as to who has the most talent. To consider my opinion wrong (unsupported by the facts) is to deny the reality of the situation. I wish you a speedy recovery from (hopefully transient) cognitive dissonance.

      There's no such thing as a superstar who doesn't attract a massive audience. Ergo, these other players, while legitimately WNBA greats, are not superstars. The only reason I decided to watch a few games was due to the freshman and sophomore recruits. Many of us followed them throughout their college careers. We didn't want them in the WNBA, but we support their decisions and continue to cheer for them.
