Carson, I have a rule: I don’t fly if it’s not a DJI. Plain and simple. I had to trade in my old drone because it broke and got the Magic Air 2. A few vids ago you said “most people are only interested in DJI” and I thought that was mularkey. I stand corrected. There’s a reason people are hyped about DJI folks
I’ve been owning DJI for the last 5 years now and have never had any issues with reliability. They’ve been always working fantastically right out of the box!
The first drone I bought in 2018 was a Typhoon H. It was a very large drone and a total mistake! I even had it replaced when the original one failed to work properly. The second one wouldn’t even bind to the console! I got a full refund thankfully and last year I bought the drone featured in this video. It’s ace!
"Disable Sideways Flight" is also handy to have when you need to shoot scenes that require straight runs. I've had to reshoot because of slight sideways motion caused by accidental roll input. I see iOS provides just a numeric scale for "Pitch Speed" and "Yaw Rotation Speed", whereas on Android the scale is one degree/sec for both of these items.

A good presentation! I would have added that setting 45 Waypoints drains the battery. There is therefore a provision (a Waypoints library) for saving the set Waypoints (icon top left), after which one can insert a fresh battery, load the saved Waypoints and start flying.

Thanks Carson for the review and update info on the MA2. While I'd updated the DJI Fly app, forgot to check for firmware update on the drone. DUH! So, I'm off to do that now. (Will be interested if this helps some of the earlier issues I had with my MA2.) Cheers again for the info. Well done. Tony
@@carsonmtech Hey Carson... Thanks for asking. On my first flight, I had a jerky or delayed video transmission. UGH! Did contact DJI, but they really couldn't suggest anything. I did go in and recheck all the Camera Settings. The Coding Format was set at H.265. Hmmm... Reset that to H.264. I think I also reset my Format to MP4. After that, there was a Firmware update for the drone, which wasn't there when I first flew. So downloaded that. These things seemed to have helped to smooth out the jerkiness, but not entirely. I'd say 90% better. There was still (prior to this current update) a slight jerkiness in certain camera moves - panning in a 360, there was s stutter. Doing rapid pan might be the reason. Slower pans not as noticeable. Transmission is currently set to HD. I'm using an iPad Mini 4 as my "device" - all updates on that are current. I really do like the ability to adjust the Gimbal settings now. Oh... In case you ask, I am quite aware of moving the control sticks slowly when I'm doing various camera moves. The hardest is the circle around a POI (trying not to use the autonomous function for now), both CW and CCW. Tony
+Fpv Pilot Yeah, no goggles support makes no sense, at least to me. It's not like they'd have to develop some new technology. Plus, they'd instantly increase their bottom line by selling a lot more goggles. Go figure.
YES! SO DANG ANNOYING! I thought that was just me having that issue. I only fly my Mavic Air 2 on a regular week about once a week or once every week and a half and it’s super annoying to go and get ready to shoot a video and then realize that the batteries are all needing charged. This should at least be user adjustable up to a point. Say, the option to choose every 4, 7, 10, or 14 days for discharge.
I’m 38 but still a kid at heart, and I’ve got some amazing footage and pictures in my city! Last night I crashed my mini for the last time, the gimbal is broke! Man I’m bummed, I like the little hobby and flyin! But idk what now, didn’t get the refresh.?
!I would like to know(in terms of photography) how much a variable aperture is important for a drone user compared to a fixed one and if with a 0.8-1 inch sensor there can be loss of details with a fixed aperture like 1.7-2.4-2.8.Thank you so much! Great video!

@@carsonmtech oic ok cool. I live in pa and we have the Dutch Amish country here. Looks just like where you live. They ride around on those same horse carriages with the orange triangle reflectors. When i was younger I heard a person say that those orange 🔺️ triangles were a target not for caution. That is so mean I thought. I've made a couple of test flights already ( go and check :) . The only thing that annoys me so far is that the active track function does not support 60fps d-cinelike and the low light performance is rubbish.

Carson...great series of videos! Have you figured out how to make Waypoint on DJI Fly (with Mavic Air 2) useful? To me, the constraints on "camera rotation angle" really limit the utility of the mode. There is NOTHING online about this limitation or how to anticipate the constraints. DJI Go has a nice setup but it doesn't seem to work with the Mavic Air 2. Any ideas?
So if you can zoom in 2.7k as well, why didn't they give the mini the same option? Seems like a lot of those features could have been added to the mini. Maybe the mini's processor just can't handle the extra load.
The zoom feature sucks in my opinion. Now I watch your video. 😁 And that 45 waypoint feature takin so long u can save as a task and load it once u have a fresh battery so u know. 🤙🏾🤙🏾
Great video. I'm about to purchase the Mavic Air 2 and was wondering what you thought about the upcoming remote ID regulations? I actually emailed the FAA about this and they told me that there would be a grace period for people who owned non-compliant drones. He said that there would be aftermarket remote ID modules that could be retrofitted to existing drones to make them compliant. That doesn't sound like something that the average drone owner would be able to do...unless the module sits on top of your drone like a beacon. Thoughts?
Hey Carson love your videos. Im debating between a mavic mini and a mavic air 2, mainly with the part about registering with the faa. I have a fishing channel and would like to add some cool drone shots to add some perspective. If I go with the mavic air 2, and am going to use the footage I capture in my youtube videos, would I have to register the drone as a commercial drone? Or can I just register as recreational? Im looking online and getting mixed answers. Would it be better to just go with the mini since I can avoid this whole headache? Thanks in advance :D

Peppy, yep! I am recording with the built in screen recording option on iPhone. Works great and never shows that it’s recording when in the actual DJI app. I add the phone overlay in editing just with a vector image of an iPhone 11 Pro. Hope this helps!

I've got the latest updates for my Mavic Air 2 and have all the new features EXCEPT the zoom. When I'm recording in 4k, the little film icon button is hidden. The only button showing is the red start/stop. Therefore, I have no way to get to the option to zoom. If I stop recording, the film icon button and picture buttons reappear but it only shows Normal, HDR and Slow Motion. It doesn't give me a zoom option. Do you know if DJI changed things since you recorded this video?
I just got my Mavic Air 2 today but have the smart controller that I used with my Mavic 2 Pro which I sold. It appears that I have the latest DJI fly app 1.2.2. I finally got to try it (not outside it's snowing) and I tried to use the scroll wheels to zoom but did not work, nor do I get the screen part where you can zoom with your finger. Can you advise me?

Hi Carson, thank you for your video. Very informative. After the update, the orientation display (the small arrow in the lower middle of the screen) disappeared. I deleted and reinstalled the fly app but same thing. Any thoughts how to get it back?
Hello Carson, I have been looking into your videos because I got the Mavic Air 2 and all my videos are pixeled on my phone and when I go to the computer the videos are laggy (plays-stops all the time) do you have a video showing the correct settings... Well, make sure you use a quality SD card designed for drone video, the types of which are easily found by typing, "recommended sd cards for dji mavic air 2" Click the DJI link. Format the SD card according to dji recommendations. The list goes on and on... good luck.

That’d be my guess. Or, it may be powerful enough, but DJI doesn’t want to give toooo many features to its little guy, lol

Man, it stings that the 2x zoom doesn't work on 4K@60fps. I hope a future update would fix that.

There is no 4k zoom option on the new update I just got my ma2 few weeks ago🤦♂️
There are two 4K video options. One says Wide and one says Zoom. I have both on mine. They are at the the bottom on mine, not the side like his.

If I recall, it's only available for 4k/30fps, not 60, and maybe HDR is an issue as well... don't know for sure.
